Kasier upgrading with a mac.

Tilt to HTC rom upgrading with a mac. Is it possible? or do I really have to install boot-camp or use my vista gaming/video editing PC...? As i rather not install active sync and related junk on that PC...

I have CID unlocked and then flashed Roms on my Macbook Pro, but I was running XP under VMware Fusion. So if you can't borrow a PC for 15 minutes, this is another option.

I can absolutely confirm that this works. I have a Macbook Pro 17" at home and this is precisely what I did to both sync my Tilt, load helmi's ROM, CID unlock it, etc.
The key thing to remember is that the virtual Windows XP machine must have focus when you plug your Tilt into the USB or it won't be detected. Other than that, it's a very slick system that works very well.

Total Newbie Question: Cannot Copy Files to HTC Love

Hello All,
I recently bought my first smartphone here in Beijing. It's a dopod D805; I hope to upload media to it from my Vista-loaded PC.
The problem is Vista doesn't seem to recognize the device. I downloaded Windows Mobile Center (sorry if I've got the name wrong) but it doesn't seem to do anything. The CD that came with the device doesn't work (it keeps telling me to install Flash 8.0, which seems to imply the software on the disc was designed for pre-Vista systems).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Update:
The phone seems simply not to work on Vista. I am now dual-booting XP alongside Vista, and have had much more success using XP and Activesync.
A new newbie question:
I cannot copy files (music, PDFs) from my PC's HDD to the phone's drive. Each time I try I am told there is not enough free space on the drive. This is absurd, as there is nothing on the drive other than what came on it, and the files I'm trying to copy are quite small. What gives?

Thanks for the response.
I checked that page before posting, but it doesn't seem to have much beyond the specs for my model.
All I want to do is install Pleco, and upload some MP3s/PDFs. When I plug the device in, I get the "bing bong" sound, but no new HD appears in My Computer. Since I'm running Vista, I can't use the bundled Activesync software.
Help?

i dont know if this will help but i cant sync my phone with xp unless i set my firewall to allow all.
if you go to my computer and look at your drives, does it not show you phone there as F: or whatever?

Right, it doesn't show a new drive. Note that I'm running Vista, not XP. I'm in the process of getting a dual-boot setup going, but I'm not there yet. Very frustrating.

WMDC not recognizing Sprint TouchPro 2

SOLVED: I uninstalled it in the computer's Device Manager, removed the device, reinstalled it, scanned for hardware changes, and it now works. Sorry for the bother to all of you. This might be helpful to the 'simpler' website members [Like ME! ] so I am leaving it here.
I have a Sprint TouchPro 2 with OEM 6.1 os. I have two laptops. Both are running Windows 7. One version is 'professional' the other is 'ultimate'. Both are 32 bit systems. Both have synchronized with this phone as recently as 2 weeks ago with no problems.
My phone syncronizes fine on the Windows 7 Professional computer through WMDC. HOWEVER, I then plug it into my Windows 7 Ultimate computer and WMDC can't find the device. It searches forever and then says [in red] ERROR where it said 'Searching' or 'Connected' before. I have run all the same updates on the computers from Microsoft. the only difference in software I can think of is that I used the Ultimate computer to install the .NET 3.5 compact program onto the phone, and now it doesn't work.
I'll try to remove the .NET from the Windows 7 Ultimate computer, but do I need it installed on THIS computer to keep it installed on my phone?
Can anyone think of any other possible problems?
I don't think it's the phone, as it works on the Professional computer, just not on the Ultimate one. The settings are the same [all checked and allowing connections in bluetooth in both: the settings are all the same].
I just can't get the Ultimate to recognize that the phone is plugged in.
UPDATE:
When I checked in the device manager, it stated that: "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)"
Does anyone have any suggestions on where specifically to look? Thanks!

Follow the steps in the first line where I showed how I fixed this. If this didn't/doesn't work for you, then I've got nuttin. Good Luck!

make sure you let windows update find the appropriate drivers for the phone... after that you should be in business

[Q] 3.1 Root on OSX

I've tried everything, are people who use OSX left behind? I can't root and I want to! Is there a solution?

Well I can only speak from little experience with rooting but it seems that you either have to use Boot Camp to install Windows on a partition on your HDD or either using VMWare or some other VM program to install windows on your mac.
Either way it is sad that we have to install that POS Operating System.
I agree with you though.....we should not be left in the dark because we run a superior Operating System rather than Windows.

dwnload windows 7 ISO(100% legal as Microsoft has download links), create small partition and install windows 7. This will give u a 30 day trial. Root it, then delete the windows partition once you boot back into osx
Or try vmware player and see if you can send through the USB device

LOL woops I thought this was general *is a space case* and I can't install win7 because as of the moment I can only use my mom's OSX computer. I'll just have to wait until I can fix my windows computer.

OT: I'm a computer programmer by trade, and I recently had to port some code I originally programmed in Windows to OSX, and I can tell you that OSX is one of THE least intuitive interfaces I have ever worked with, and I have various flavors of Linux/Ubuntu running at home as well. It's like they are trying to be different just to be "not Windows." Resizing a window using ONLY one corner? WTF is that? Fast switching only between running programs and being f'ed if said program is running multiple windows and the window you want is behind another one who's "resizing corner" is off to the side? Again, WTF?
You basically have to be completely bought in to their dumbed down interface to be comfortable with it.

Yea, I'm gonna close this. Desktop OS flame war doesn't have anything to do with phones.

Is possible, to install and use free apps (.xap,...) in airplane mode, on lumia 1020?

I mean when I am completely offline (like android phones). Or at least using reverse tethering. Is reverse tethering possible to lumia 1020?
P.s. My question is specific. I know about wifi or bluetooth, which I don't trust. Using my pc I feel more safe.

You can deploy XAP files using a PC using USB cable. On Win 10 Mobile, you can install APPX using file explorer just like APK on Android or you can also use Device Portal (similar to reverse tethering).

I did loads of research and I never stumbled upon Device Portal. Obviously you are ... (somebody) and thank you...
Unfortunately my phone runs Windows 8.1 and my laptop Windows XP. Is there something out there for me, to marry my two devices offline? I also want to downgrade to Windows 8 but probably there is not a user friedly and safe way (fa fu bee ga ).

You're very welcome.
You can deploy apps from XAP files on WP8.1 but unfortunately not for XP. I understand that the deployment tools is from Visual Studio 2015 which requires Win 7 or higher. I've seen some sites extracts the deployment tool as a standalone app so you don't have to install visual studio. You can attempt to deploy XAP file this way. But I have no idea if it will work.
