How to Dual boot? - Thunderbolt General

Is it possible to dual boot the thunderbolt. I've seen the Dinc and the Desire HD dual booted. But not the Thunderbolt. I would think the Thunderbolt would be the same as the Desire HD. Im tempted to try the steps for the Desire on my thunderbolt

dual boot like with another rom along side the current one you are running?

Yes that's what I ment. Sorry I wasn't specific

didnt even know that was possible. That would be sweet though!

I think the big hold up with dual boot is how much internal memory the device has or if it can boot from an SD card.
I know the nook has it easy with a 5GB EMMC on top of where the stock ROM resides, so people just partition off a portion of the 5GB EMMC and make it a custom uboot.bin (CM7.10 RC for the nook Color has one built in that will dual boot off SD or EMMC).

The thunderbolts come with 8gb internal storage and a 32gb sd card (unless this is verizon only, idk)
Phones are not like computers--a pc can have a bootloader installed quite easily, because the BIOS initializes the system and hands the reigns over to the bootloader. A phone's boot mechanism initializes hardware and the operating system....but the firmware/bootloader is already compiled code (and proprietary usually). It's a bit harder when you have to poke in the dark...
HOWEVER!
It is possible. The software exists, it needs to be modified for the Thunderbolt though.
EDIT: check this:
Dual booting ubuntu on thunderbolts

[Q] Help! My Inspire 4G being detected as Desire HD in Android Marketplace

Hello all, let me start off saying that I just bought my first android phone ever. I tried to download apps for it using the "Market" app and the phone asked for my gmail account which entered. I have been able to download some apps I needed so far, but when I tried to search for the Netflix app, the one from Netflix Inc was not showing up.
So now I logged into the marketplace on my laptop using my Gmail account and when I try to install, I see an option to choose my device, when I look at the devices listed under my account, I just see a HTC Desire HD (which happens to be unfit for this app). So how do I get my device as Inspire 4G there gentlemen. I have never used a HTC Desire HD and have no idea why the marketplace is doing this.
Desire HD is same build like the HTC inspire.
Sent from my HTC Desire HD using XDA Premium App
Your Inspire IS a Desire HD (just rebadged for US) and that's what the market thinks it is. And as a side note, Inspire will not run netflix anyway (unless you've got CM7 build 77 or later I think).
Netflix isnt available in the market..... Yet

Apparently the update that's coming today for the TPGB ROM has netflix working as well (it's built off of CM7)
I don't get it. I just installed the device check disabled Netflix apk from here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1076150) on a device that's a year and a half old (LG GW620 Eve) with less 238mb internal and can only be overclocked to 710mhz, and it's working fine. It's also running a CM7 based ROM released 5/14. Obviously our Inspire's are 10x more powerful than this, why doesn't it work?
Thanks guys. I just checked Netflix website for their supported devices list and found that HTC Inspire is not listed on it. As long as I am not the only one that cannot use it, I am good
Any chance Netflix is adding more android devices?

It seems that the stock Inspire and most of the derivative ROMs are missing a few libraries that implement the correct codec for netflix. I'm guessing a fix will be rather simple once the library files are figured out.

Right - being that it's working on CM7 and TPGB 0517 (according to testers), I can't imagine it will be long before all chefs are able to incorporate the proper files into their ROMs. The question is will there be an OTA update for non-rooted users to provide Netflix functionality, or is the Inspire just going to be forgot about?
I worry about the Inspire for the simple fact that it wasn't a groundbreaking device. Although it's an amazing device with which I would never want to part, it wasn't really offering anything new, which leads to my fear that it's going to be forgotten about by the bigwigs (HTC, ATT, Netflix, etc) before our devices have fully had a chance to shine...

It is my understanding, from all the tech sites, that Netflix is individually testing every single device. I think it has something to do with their version DMLA, or whatever it is. They will announce more devices eventually. They are just shooting themselves in the foot by testing each device one by one.

HTC Sense and HTC Widgets !!!!!!!!!!!!

I had an old HTC Droid Eris lying around so I used root explorer and transferee all HTC sense and HTC widgets over to my SD card that I am using on my SGS4G. When I finished and opened up astro file manager and tried to download the files it would say Application not installed. Is this because of the screen resolution difference or because of the different hardware? Any help to get this project working would be fantastic!

i mean...they are COMPLETELY different phones. different manufacturers and isnt the eris running on 1.6? it would have been great if it worked...but what were the chances? lol. this topic has been discussed, though. from what i saw, it cant be done by just taking them and replacing what we have. you can get third party apps, though. like beautiful widgets for the clock

Why not just use Launcher Pro Plus widgets? Much better than the Sense one as it doesn't have to refresh and reload every time.

It's both the things underlined.
And I'd personally love to have Sense running on my phone, but porting it is both practically impossible (according to many many developers), and not worth the time.
Even hardware-wise, porting a Sense ROM probably wouldn't be possible because of the sheer size of it (from what I know).

Desire user: Is Sensation's internal storage enough?

I currently have a Desire, considering getting a Sensation. The biggest problem with the Desire is the limited internal memory - only 512MB, which is also used by the OS itself. So there's very little memory for applications. There exist some solutions to move apps to SD, but they are not nice to set up and don't always perform best.
So my question is, is the 1GB memory on the Sensation enough for installing as many apps as you want? Has anyone hit the limit?
Thanks!
P.S. I'd also like to hear opinions from former Desire users that have already upgraded to Sensation. For example, the capacitive keys and the lack of a trackpad with an action button.
P.P.S. I just realized the topic should go to the Q&A section, but cannot delete this thread anymore...
I would say so! I have everything installed on my sensation that I had on my desire with A2SD and still have 529MB free space

the sensation actually has 2GGB of internal memory where 1GB is reserved for the system meaning you have appproximately 1GB for apps in practic. I find this more than sufficient
It ends up being 10x what the Desire had. Coming from the Nexus One, its definitely nice to not have to worry about space. If you put every app on the SD Card, you can fit about 1,000 apps. About 200 apps if you don't put any on the SD Card.
The trackball is missed a bit, but with it gone you realize how much space it was taking up. The touchscreen is better, and HTC has a little software snippit that's slows down the response rate so you can select text better.

Woah, that's a lot! Does it hint some possible bigger future updates (e.g. Ice Cream Sandwitch with Chocolate Topping and Caramel Almonds )
this question is mostly user preference, since it depends on how the user uses his cellphone. If a user is mostly a application geek or more like games then its not enough. And even if its not enough there is an APP2SD.

Yeah, a phone with more than 1gb worth of apps is like a closet with a bunch of **** in it you don't need. You can only use so many apps.

I'm sure the specs got bumped down to 2gigs (total). But with a ROM like CM7 or an AOSP build, which is much smaller than Sense, we should be able to reformat the internal memory and get 1.5gigs external, .5gigs internal.

My desire had only 100mb for apps. Sense gobbled up the vast chunk of the 512mb rom. Then there were the data and cache partitions as well.
By the way you cannot repartition the Sensation as the flash nand is emmc protected. I don't really understand the technical details but it boils down to the fact that the emmc security prevents it.

Desire user here too, the storage alone was worth upgrading to the sensation, I haven't had the chance to use A2SD on the desire (I had the desire for 2 months), so talking stock, the difference is HUGE, I mean with desire I after installing just barely the basic stuff I use plus some games, I had 26mb or so free, with the sensation right now I have programs that I have no idea what they're for, many games, all while keeping firefox, opera, and several other programs on the internal storage for fast access, free MB : 767mb, so yeah HUGE difference
Thank you, guys! I'm almost convinced to upgrade now The last two questions whose answers will help me convince my wallet:
1) How was the feeling upgrading from Desire? Screen, performance, features?
2) Is it the right time now to upgrade? Is a much better device than the Sensation around the corner?
IMO, the Sensation is the best Android device that has ever come out. Samsung Galaxy S2 feels really bulky and plasticy (like all Samsung devices, including the Nexus S), and I hate their UI mods.
1. Deff. Yes
2. No every 3/6 month a better phone will come out..so buy your phone in the year 2020
Went from Desire to Desire HD to this. Desire HD has sane screen size as this but same resolution as Desire and I must say the screen on the DHD looks silly now. It just looks like it should fit more on the screen than it does.
Now on the Sensation I can use adw launcher with a 5x5 grid and it looks natural. On the last two phones it looked cramped and unpleasant.
The only issue is the handful of apps which can't deal with the higher resolution. I've got two right now which refuse to use any more than 3/4 of the screen. Hopefully the develops will get around to fixing them.
Sent from my Leedroid Sensational Htc Sensation!
Thanks, dr.m0x, that's a good point. I've also been wondering how apps deal with the qHD screen, as I had the fear that many of them would assume a 800x480 display.
Still, most (at least of the essential/popular) apps deal with the resolution, don't they? And how about games? Resolution seems more critical there, I guess...

I'm sure they've tried many times on multiple kinds of devices (I know 2 teams that tried to port sense to the cappy I don't think they got anywhere near a stable release) its just a whole lot more effort than a rom made for your phone
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I777 using XDA App
its more than just the OS. those UI's arent just skins. they rely heavily on kernel support, and the framework is deeply integrated and dependent upon the core device. sense relies on it being HTC, TW relies on it being samsung, and blur relies on motorola....
Back in the day when I had the original droid i remember seeing a sense rom made for it. I never used it or even thought about it since it was pretty unstable. But I guess it is possible, just impracticle and way too much work for all the super awesome devs.

(Q) ZTE N800 Awe software?

Is there currently, or will there ever be, any development for custom recoveries or roms for the ZTE N800 Awe?
Picked this up on Black Friday for $20 and it is by far one of the best phones I've owned yet, which is saying something. Just look at my signature. And I have a half-bricked GSIII I'm close to having fixed but for the while this ZTE Awe is phenomenal! After rooting, unlocked its (for whatever reason) locked 2nd core and it seriously flies. Gaming isnt an issue, even if it is a bit underpowered. COD: BOZ runs like a champ, Modern Combat 4, Nova 3...and thats WITHOUT the 2nd core unlocked to save battery. If we had some serious development for kernels and roms this phone would be an absolute gem. When I get a few free moments I'll update with a Quadrant score and as a bonus a recording (yes, live gameplay from the device itself) of me playing something.
C'mon devs! Please make this happen?!
Edit: Overclock achieved! Quadrant score from my own most recent test at 1.94ghz performance on both cores. Was getting higher scores but I got too much crap on my phone >_< Check out http://www.androidforums.com/awe-all-things-root for the tut and test for yourself!:good::good::good:

I also got this phone on Black Friday and it's a decent phone with the Snapdragon 400 CPU. MSM8630 dual core at 1.2 ghz. I rooted with Cydia Impactor and themed with Kit Kat bootanimation and UI sounds
How do you know if the second core is active? Is it automatically active when you root it?
I wanted to put CWM recovery on this but can't seem to find a method to get it on here.... does anyone know?
I've tried to install the new Google Experience Launcher on this phone even though it is running 4.1.2 with the latest Google Search apk but as soon as I run the launcher I get a force close from Google Search. I can't get it to work. I even tried replacing the library file with no success... I think something else is running in the background that is conflicting but I don't know how to find out what it is....
My wifi seems to lock up after the phone has been on for a few hours and I have to reboot it to get it to come back... any clues as to why that is happening?

the 2nd core needs to be activated with any CPU tweaker. i use Android Tuner Pro, gives LOTS of options that have sped up my phone. also a free version.
there isnt any CWM or TWRP or any custom recoveries at all yet, which is why i was making the request. also (as you could imagine) no roms.
Google Experience Launcher isnt gonna work on this phone. tried myself, ended up locking up the phone and had to restore and reroot to be able to use it again. i use Nova Launcher. best there is in my opinion. Apex was pretty amazing too, but hogged a little too much memory.
My wifi keeps turning itself on even after i turn it off. i dont have wifi except at work so its useless to me. dunno why that is. did you get the Application Enhancement update? dont know what it was really for, but it went through anyway.

Ive reached over 5300 a time or too. There may be a way of getting it on Boost Mobile, as I have obtained my MSL using MEID Converter from the Play Store quite easily. ZTE is really stingy with their source for the kernel, even though it is hosted on their site. Maybe someone can snag it and work with it. I'm not much of a programmer and dont understand a lot of the framework. I only customize, flash roms, test and unlock/flash to different carriers where available. I'm trying to learn how to build for the GSIII, but so far I'm just getting headaches lol. Id be more than willing to put my device up for testing anything if someone could come up with something. As it is its still an awesome piece of hardware!

Apparently google wasnt my friend today>_< more than likely gonna wait to see if they make any progress with the kernel and custom roms until I flash it though. Easy enough to just unroot if for whatever reason I have to replace it. Sure wish there was an MSL get for the Galaxy SIII S960L to try an flash my service over. 4g VM would be lovely, but I love the Awe so far.

OK I've now followed this instruction:
To verify, dial ##3424#
Click to collapse
After inputting the SPC/MSL number I get a PORT menu...
Option 1. Port set @ OFF ---> OFF or ON or MTP+DIAG selections
Option 2. NDIS set @ Disable ---> ENABLE or DISABLE selections
what are you trying to do?
