Bad Zune Pass bug? - Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Does anyone with Zune pass and Mango have this problem?
When playing songs/albums downloaded from Zune Pass, randomly it seems as though the player will lock up at the very end of a song, refuse to do anything else, and require a reboot if you want to continue listening to music. This does not happen with music transferred to the device. Very annoying.
HD7. Maybe it has something to do with the fact that I often disable my data connection? Though it still seems to happen over wifi.

nope doesn't happen to me.

It could simply be a connection issue. If you are playing music off the Internet, it of course has to buffer and stream. This could simply be a result of a wonky internet connection, so your phone isn't able to get a reliable connection, so it's trying to get your next song for you, and that may unfortunately lock up your phone.
Probably a beta bug. But I've never experienced it at all.

That makes sense, but this is happening with music that I have downloaded to my HD7 with my Zune pass. Streaming music works perfectly, but downloaded music locks Zune up between tracks. Well it technically doesn't "lock" up, but it does refuse to play any other song and just sits on the last second of the track that locked. Perhaps it's trying to get data from the server or something even though it's already downloaded?

Oh I thought you were talking about streaming music with Zune Pass, downloaded Zune Pass tracks is something different.
I tested out a song and there was no lag at all.
I know that at some point, if you haven't sync'd your phone for a long time, my Zune HD would momentarily stall before playing a song I downloaded with Zune Pass. I assume its pegging the Zune server for license information to make sure I can still play it. But I haven't experienced that on Windows Phone, or even know if Windows Phone does that all (but its technically just Zune so I assume it does do it if I haven't sync'd in a long time). Though if you just upgraded to Mango, you have to plug in your phone for that just recently, so it can't be that.
Maybe just a bug? Corrupted installation? A hard reset might fix that.

nope doesn't happen to me.

I did hard reset my device, and the bug appeared to be gone; however, it has since started up again. Perhaps it happened when I synced my phone to OSX, I am not sure, but it is back. Very annoying, randomly freezing when listening to my albums. It still only applies to music downloaded on Zune Pass.

Yes, I have the same problem with 7712: It doesn`t related with data connection: I tested it with 3g+wifi, wifi without 3g, all data services off. There is the same result: player randomly stopped at the of song for a 5-10 seconds or locked at all.
PS: Phone is Samsung Omnia 7

I've had this problem since upgrading too. Although even since pre NoDo, sometimes tracks would randomly pause and then resume, and then repeat that a few times.
I'm using a Samsung Omnia 7.

[Q] [SGS] Error message: media can't be played

Hiya guys and girls!
Very often, my SGS won't play any media anymore. If i press play on my meridian widget, it skips through all the songs in the selected album and then gives an error which says something like can't play this media. After rebooting it starts working again. I suspect it has got something to do with my (standard) earplugs, because it doesn't seem to happen when i don't use the earplugs. I'm running Darky's Rom, but had the problem with Froyo as well. Not as often however, but maybe that's just me .
Does anyone know a solution or cause for this? It's pretty frustrating.
Thanks in advance!
Lennart

[Q] Problems with playing music, ringtones, etc.

I bought two Charges last week, one for me and one for the wife. Both of us have been having similar issues with music and/or ringtones randomly not playing on our phones. My wife has missed several calls because the ringtone that she downloaded from Zedge mysteriously stopped working, so the phone acted as if it were on silent mode. I noticed several instances where I can't listen to music on my phone due to a "Error playing the requested track" error within the Google Music app. At first, I thought my problem was due to the fact that I was trying to stream music that I've uploaded, but I was given the same error when I attempted to listen to music stored directly on the SD card.
Thinking that my problem was due to some weird issue with the Google Music app, I tried to play the music on my SD card from the built-in Music Player app and I was quickly prompted with an unsupported file type error. Rebooting both our phones seems to fix the problem, but I've had to do this at least two to three times on my phone, and once on my wife's. It seems that the problem always comes creeping back without warning.
Neither of our phones are rooted, and nothing else has been done to the phone that I can think of that would cause this issue.
In short, music/ringtones/etc. will randomly stop playing regardless of their source (SD card, downloaded, stream). Since the problem is on both of our phones, I'm guessing that this is a common issue on all Droid Charges.
Has anybody else experienced this issue? What are your recommendations on fixing it? Should I just take the phones back to Best Buy and get replacements?
=Edit=
Okay...something is definitely up. I just went to watch a video on the YouTube app, and saw no video. I tried other videos and got the same result. Sure enough, I tried to listen to some music and was given the above mentioned error. What the hell?
I would take them back to Best Buy. Ive never heard of this problem. And if youtube is not playing then there seems to be and underlying problem.
I was having this same problem every so often, typically after having the phone on for a few days without turning it off. I am rooted an running a custom ROM so I thought it might have something to do with that, but obviously that is not the case. I turn my phone off whenever I charge it at night and have not had the problem since doing that. Long story short, I would return the phone if you can, but just turning the phone off and then back on (not rebooting) has fixed the problem for me every time.
Try uninstalling the official twitter app if you have it, reboot, and try again. That usually solves that.

[Q] Zune crash playing songs after Mango update

Hello everyone, I have a problem with my phone after update to mango on my Spanish HTC Trophy:
Sometimes (most of time...), while I have the screen off (phone locked) and playing songs I have downloaded with my zune pass, zune crashes changing from one song to another, and pressing any of the buttons to play, forward or unplugging the headphones causes a completely phone lock, having to remove the battery get it working back. This happens me after the mango update, I tried to hard reset the phone and to restore the previous phone version and update again to mango, none of that worked for me
Any of you have idea why this happens? I found people with different phones in other forums with the same problem, so I think it's a SO issue.
Do you think that installing the leaked mango RTM would help? And, installing an unofficial ROM, I will continue receiving official updates from Microsoft?
Any suggestions how to fix this?
Thanks!!

Do you have the HTC Sound enhancer settings on? If you do, set the setting off. It's known to cause zune crashes, that's why it has been removed from Marketplace
Most likely Sound Enhancer. I've never seen the Zune Player crash though. I haven't had a crash since pre-nodo marketplace crashes as far as stock apps are concerned.
Thanks for the answers, I have HTC sound enhancer uninstalled, so I think that's not the problem
it is a known issue

Make sure you click on the "me too" button under the first post. There are a lot of speculations on what is causing the crash. MS is investigating the issue.
Thanks for the answer. I clicked the button, hope that fix will arrive soon, Zune hub it's the thing I most use from my phone.
Btw, do you think that installing an unofficial rom will help in any way?
Thanks again

Zune won't auto download subscribed podcasts

I have been subscribed to Tech News Today via the Zune software on WP7 and every weeknight at approximately 645PM EST a new episode goes live. Whether my phone is plugged in or not or on WiFi or not it never seems to get the latest episode. I've marked the episode I downloaded already played but it still doesn't download. I find I have to unsubscribe from the podcast, delete all previous episodes, restart my phone and resubscribe.
Does anyone else have this problem or know of a way to correct it?
Edit: the newest episode does not show in the marketplace list either until I reboot.

I have this same problem on my LG Quantum. I came intended to post this same question, but you beat me to it.
It looks like either no one know, or no one want to help. I am so disappointed with the Zune app.
I too am having the exact issue. Did anyone find a solution? I bought a windowsphone to use strictly as a Zune and the podcast feature is the prime reason. I already cant get wireless sync to work, so I was counting on the auto download over wifi while connected to charger.
You might have been better off looking for a second-hand Zune HD if you didn't want the phone functionality, but anyhow...
What's wrong with the WiFi sync? If that is a viable option for you, I'd focus on making it work first. Alternatively, just plug your phone into the computer every night.
I'm not saying there aren't solutions out there, but necroposting a thread from 3.5 months ago that didn't offer any solutions isn't a good sign.

Necropost, LOL.
Went phone route for three reasons. Cheaper $50 vs. $100+. Reason 2 , Bluetooth for bt playing in vehicle home etc. Reason 3 , I wanted to get my feet wet with Windows phone.
Wireless sync is a no go. I get error COODO7OA which gets no hits. Zune sw is on my htpc So I don't want to go to crazy uninstalling updating etc. So I found the OTA podcast sync feature in Mango and thought great just plug it in everynight and wake up with all my podcasts ! Unfortunately its seems to be broken. Some podcasts sync fine others require an unsubscribe, delete and reboot. Then resubscribe.
SOLVED
For those minor few that are in the same boat and find your way to this post, I believe I have found the issue.
Apparently the Zune checks as soon ass you plug in your device or sometime close to that. I believe the criteria is over 50% battery, wifi and 10.Minutes on charge.
The problem is once it checks it doesn't check again, and there is no way to force it other than delete podcast and all episodes reboot device an resubscribe.
So the real fix would be to be able to force it to look on command or different intervals.
What I am doing now is waiting to plug it in until after I know all my podcasts hit the servers. and then plug in. That has solved my issues. In the past I would plug it in at night early it would check, but some of my podcasts (Adam Carolla) didnt go live until after the check. So now I hook up in the morning and it pulls everything in just fine.
I understand this may not be ideal for everyone because you need the phone charging overnight, but I use my windowsphone as a bluetooth podcast player and its ideal.
TL;DR
Don't plug in your device until you know your podcasts are on the server and available for download.
Make sure phone is plugged in (dont need to wait 10 min)...then go to the podcast on the phone and click the unsubscribe button and then cancel, and then settings and confirm, it will recheck for more podcasts immediately.

Google assitant no longer recognizes songs after 8.1

Anyone else have this issue? It will sometimes show songs on lock screen if it recognizes it, but if I ask Google what son is playing I get "I can't identify songs yet." Did a full refresh, and still won't work. Tried my wife's Pixel, and now it's broken too. Worked perfect in 8.0
