[SOLUTION] Wifi & mobile data problem - HTC Sensation

Hey guys & gals. I've been having a problem, and I think I may have found a solution.
History: I had the G2, the wife had the Nokia E73. Her phone sucked (obviously). I had been trying to get a fix or something for her phone for a while. The last step the TMO rep told me to do was to get a “new 4G SIM card” for her phone, and that my SIM card was “old and should probably be replaced as well.” I did this but the problems continued. After hours on the phone, Customer Loyalty sent me a Sensation for $75 plus a $50 MIR. The wife doesn’t like the touch-screen only, so I un-rooted my G2 (running CM7 nightlies) and gave it to her. She loves it. Happy Wife, happy life.
Problem: Ever since I got the Sensation, I’ve been having a problem with the Wifi and mobile data (MD) connecting and switching between them. This problem suddenly started happening once I un-rooted the G2 as well. No matter what kind of router I tried to connect to (work, home, open networks in the public) they would connect but never give me any kind of internet access. All of my other wireless devices can connect and access internet just fine, but the phones cannot. Only upon a fresh reboot would either phone connect and have access to Wifi. If I left the house and came back, the Wifi would connect but not have any access, and would keep bouncing between Wifi and MD and neither would give internet access.
Solution (that works for me):
1. Put the phone into airplane mode
2. Enable Wifi only
3. Once connected to the network, disable airplane mode to re-enable the cellular radio
And that’s it. I tried the ‘toggle ciphering’ thing that someone else posted, but it didn’t work for me. Now the phones work flawlessly when switching back and forth between Wifi and MD. I can leave the house and come back, and everything is fine……….. until I have to reboot. Upon reboot, the problems start all over again. If I repeat the above steps, everything is fine until the next reboot. I've been testing my theory for about a week now, and everything holds true. I'm not sure why this is being caused, but I have my suspicions. I'm no expert so pretty much anything I try and blame for the problems is pure speculation.
Again, this is only my experience with this issue. I have been reading a lot of posts about data issues and I hope this can help some of you.

[Q] Help with Dead Wifi all of a sudden

Hi guys-
I lurk here alot but don't post often- however today I am in dire straits.. hoping someone can help me.
I have an HTC Amaze (I know I know- I'm literally days away from a Galaxy Note3)
and although its old, its been a trooper for me- that is, until last night.
All of a sudden, the phone started going wacky when trying to connect to my home wifi network(s)
Every other device in the house connected fine, but the Amaze is having endless issues.
When I'm in the Wifi Networks display, it keeps jumping various networks up and down on the list, once in a while it might connect to one, but not for long. Again, these networks are working fine.
I've pulled the battery numerous times, but this issue persists.
Then today, I was out using 4G (which seems to work OK) and needed to tether my laptop. I turn on wifi tethering and my lap is now showing a "poor" to no signal from the phone. Its spotty getting it to connect to the HTC network.
This is def. different- it used to have full bars, especially with the phone close by, and it was literally right next to the laptop.
I fear that my wifi radio has died, or perhaps its software/driver related?
I'm posting here as an act of deperation, hoping perhaps there is a radio update I can download that someone knows about that may help me out..

Please help!!! On 3rd Nexus 5, having same issues. Phone support is abysmal :(

I am having ongoing issues with the wifi on my Nexus 5. To the point I've received my 3rd one from RMA, but still have the exact same issue. At first I thought it may have been a hardware issue with the phone, so I RMA'd it. When I got my second and had the same problem, I started to not think it was a physical defect with the phone. The odds of getting two phones with the same issues would be astronomical. Now, on my 3rd, and still have the same issue. Every time I try calling and speak to phone service reps, they really don't know anything, and based on the questions they ask, or troubleshooting steps they suggest, lead me to believe they don't even understand the issue I'm trying to explain.
The wifi on my phone seems to "freeze", or stop working, stop scanning, something throughout the day. My day starts with my phone connected to my home wifi network. I leave for work, and I can watch my phone picking up random wifi signals on my drive. I get to work, and it picks up 8 wifi networks. None of which I've connected to. When I leave work 8 hours later, my phone is no longer picking up wifi signals, and won't scan for new ones. I get home, and it still says the 8 networks from work are in range, even though I'm miles away.
This is how my wifi list should look sitting in my living room. It has my network that it is connected to, as well as it picks up 4 of my neighbors networks.

I can hit the 3 dot option button, and choose "Scan", and it won't rescan. If the only issue was that it didn't pick up my network, I could see it possibly being an issue with my home network. But the fact that it still shows 8 networks that are out of range, as well as the fact it won't detect any network, mine or my neighbors, kind of rules out that it's an issue with my network.
Turning wifi on and off won't fix it. However, power cycling the phone will, or if I toggle airplane mode. But I shouldn't have to do that every day when I come home.
With my most recent Nexus 5, when I took it out of the box I didn't do a single thing to it, aside from turn it on, and manually put in the info to connect to my home network. Not a single app was downloaded, just to rule out it wasn't something I was installing on the phone. I absolutely love the Nexus 5, it's probably the best phone I've owned. But I am at my wits end with this issue.
Its probably not an actual fix, but I was having the same problems with mine, and I hate sending stuff back and play the waiting game over and over. So I got pissed off with wifi and just left it on LTE for a week or so and went back to wifi just to check up on the issue and it was gone.
Its been almost 3 weeks now and no problem, everything is working perfectly fine. LTE draining my battery was a pain thou but it paid off in the end somehow.

I'd be happy with just about any fix, as long as it fixes the issue. LTE draining my battery wouldn't be an issue, I'd be more worried about my data. While I have "unlimited" data from AT&T, I get throttled after 5GB. Since I stream large amounts of music, I can blow through that rather fast. So I try to keep my phone connected to wifi as much as possible. But it definitely is something to suck up and try if I don't get a better solution. I have this cross posted just about everywhere I could think of.

SIM card swapping

Luckily this is a curiousity question as the urgency worked itself out.
I have my Doubleshot connected to the Rogers network here in Canada, and I've tried other SIM cards before (i.e. T-Mobile) without issue. But this one had the representatives (and tier two support) stumped.
I walked into an Eastlink store (competing communications company although their roaming is done through Rogers frequencies) with a promotional flyer. We got talking about switching, and they offered to do a test to see if the phone is compatible. So I thought, hey, why not? So they popped an Eastlink SIM in my phone, turned it back on, picked up the network no problem. Well and good.
The problem occurs when she put my Rogers SIM back in. Boot the phone up and the network wasn't recognizing. No service. We went to Settings > Mobile Networks > Network Operators. The searching took forever then threw up and error. No networks to choose from.
The interesting part is that the Rogers APN's were present. I thought maybe the SIM card went bad. Luckily the Rogers store was across the street so we popped that into a feature phone, no issues. I then thought there was some weird (new) setting preventing it from connecting. So I booted into recovery and restored a backup from three days ago. No luck.
The problem ended up fixing itself, about an hour later, while waiting for the bus (after having given up). I made a few test calls to be sure. Since it's working now, it's merely a curiousity, but the issue stands: what would have caused this and is there any way to restore service faster? Using Tbaldens CM 10.1 if that helps.

Still very interesting. I find now that every time I reboot the phone, it takes a few minutes for service to be established. Long enough for Auto Pilot Mode (one of the apps I use in case I'm in the depths of big buildings) to be engaged. I may have to quarantine that app for a little while. Or just not reboot the phone.
My Rogers SIM is an older card. It would have been pressed in 2007 or 2008 (which is also why the fastest internet I can get on it is EDGE). It may be time I shell out the $10 for a replacement. For whatever reason, that just may fix this newly attained lag on connecting.

Just activated a new Rogers (LTE) SIM card. Booted up the phone, and service was recognized by the time I entered my login PIN. So everything looks good (as it looks like my old SIM was starting to die). I'm still stuck with EDGE, but that is due to the phone being a non-Rogers phone. No big deal there.

Verizon LG G5 (VS987) dropping data connection

Hey guys,
I recently got an LG G5 last month. The phone was running pretty darn well until about a week and a half ago. Before I go into detail about my problem, I would like to point out that this is the 3rd 4G phone I've ever had through Verizon, but this is the FIRST time I've encountered this issue.
Anyway, on to the issue. My data signal is dropping TREMENDOUSLY. In areas where I used to have a moderately weak 4G signal I'm now dropping all the way to 1X or no signal whatsoever. The troubleshooting I've performed consists of the following:
1) Rebooting the phone
2) Toggling mobile data off and back on
3) Toggling airplane mode on and back off
4) Experimenting with different network types (Global and CDMA/LTE)
5) Booting into safe mode to see if any 3rd party apps are causing the problem
6) Taking the SIM card out and putting it back in
7) Replacing the SIM card altogether
The only one of these techniques that showed promise was replacing the SIM card. The phone seemed to work well for a few hours, but later in the evening it went back to it's old problems.
I've searched online for this issue, and I've seen several other cases of this with no real solution. Here is a list of links to other people's complaints:

Anyway, Verizon tech support is pretty much useless. When standard troubleshooting doesn't work, they typically have two final "troubleshooting" techniques: 1) Factory data reset 2) Warranty replacement
I refuse to do a factory data reset because out of all the phones I've ever owned, a factory data reset has never served as a permanent solution, EVER. Occasionally, it might fix the problem for a short period of time, but it inevitably goes back to it's old problems. Not to mention, it's such a pain to get my phone set back up the way I like it after the reset.
The warranty replacement seems like a waste of time too because of other people having the same issue. It sounds more like a problem with phone design rather than my specific device.
Anyway, do you guys have any troubleshooting suggestions? Have any of you experienced the same thing? If you have experienced it, PLEASE call Verizon tech support at least once a day and report the issue. It's currently not categorized as a "known issue" because it's not received enough "hits". However, once enough people report the same issue enough times, Verizon deems it as a "known issue", and they get off their butts to find a solution to the problem. We need a ton of people to complain about this.
I have what sounds like a connected issue.
Mine started off by going into global mode then would loose data connectivity. So figuring there was something wrong with the phone but also figuring there was an easy walk around (even though it was a pain in the butt that shouldn't happen) I made a shortcut to take me straight into System Select so I could change it back to CDMA/LTE. This worked for a while. Then the phone started doing the same thing; no network connectivity at all, even while being on CDMA/LTE. So what I ended up having to do there was go to into System Select change to Global wait for a couple of seconds then change it back to CDMA/LTE. This would fix it for a couple of days. I think at that point the phone decided it was being too easy on me because next, it started doing this to me every day. Frustration level went way up! But, the phone wasn't quite finished with me yet. Now that it was doing it once a day it started loosing signal bad enough that it started to miss SMS and Phone calls as well. This was pretty much the last straw. I waded through Verizon's level 1 tech support and was then forwarded to level 2. Surprisingly enough, level 1 did more than level 2. At the end of level 2, I was referred to LG's tech support. LG's guys were a joke. They had me do a Factory Restore, that was it. He had me do that and said if it didn't work go back to Verizon. So back to Verizon I went. They sent me a new (read factory refurbished phone) to replace my phone that I had purchased brand new. The "new" phone worked great for a few days then it started doing the switching to global thing again. So far it's stayed there for about a month now.
Long story short on my experience: Everywhere I went they said, "I've searched all over the net and I can't see anybody else having this issue." You need to contact Verizon and wade through their inept tech support. If you don't they'll never know the phone has an issue. I tried a bunch of stuff myself, including switching the SIM card. The only thing I haven't done is drop a new battery into the phone, which I'm still considering doing. But if they think it's just me they aren't going to care. They need to know there are more than one of their customers with this issue!

Various issues with Verizon V50

Folks,
I am curious if anyone else is having some of the issues I've been experiencing. I am not happy with this phone overall. I am having lots of problems with it:
- HotSpot - I originally found a hotspot issue with this phone, that took them a few weeks to resolve. But even after they've resolved it, I have other issues. The biggest is that after some period of time, my laptop will not get data through the phone. I've tried different laptops. The laptop shows that it is still connected to the phone's wifi but no data. The fix is to disconnect the laptop from the hotspot and then reconnect. This is an issue for me as I use this for work to provide customer demos. In order to get to my lab, I need to make 2 VPN hops. (1 into work and then 1 into my lab) When I disconnect and reconnect my laptop the hotspot, I have to go through all of that again. This problem only affects the connected device. So when the laptop stops "working", the phone can send/receive data just fine. If I kick off a speedtest, it looks good.
- GPS issues - The GPS accuracy seems to drift. Lots of times when I am using Waze, it has me in completely different places going in different directions.
- Phone issues - I drop calls often. I believe (but not 100% sure) that this happens when it uses wi-fi calling. (I just turned off wifi calling, so I'll see how it goes)
- Phone issues pt. 2 - Sometimes I get an error message "Mobile network is unavailable" and I cannot make or receive calls. A reboot fixes this.
Been a huge LG phone fan since the G2 (even loved the G4 despite the bootlooping), but this phone makes me want to throw it against the wall
Hello! You may want to turn off the default 5 minutes timeout. I think this is the problem. Check attached screenshots.

It's not turning off as I have the timeout set to Never Turns Off.

I am having the same issue. People have told me that they tried to call me but phone never rang. It also rang on their end and then went to VM. So people assume that I got a missed call but I didn't.
I also at time show no reception. I would have to go into auto connection to network and then it starts working again.
This is really screwing up my business.
I have the same problem with missing calls (never rings) or I can't make a call. Also, sometimes I can hear the other person clearly but they can't hear me or I sound terrible on their end. However, I have an LG V30 (lurking here because I'm looking to buy a V50) so I don't think it has to do with the phone as much as it's Verizon's coverage. For the last 8+ months this issue has gotten worse in my area. I was thinking it was the phone, but I think it's Verizon.
Edit: Just in case it matters, I'm still on the original grandfathered UDP
I must clarify that this issue only pertains when I am home. For some reason, when I loose Verizon connection because the wifi is being used or a dead spot in my house. The mobile connection won't come back on until I manuallly have to reconnect.
I used to have Verizon fios at home and never had issues before but as soon as i switched to optimum this issue might be because of that.
Outside of my home, I don't have any issues with missed calls.
