Hello,
I got a lil problem with choosing my next phone, and yeah lets start with some info.
So my contract ends at 22/10/2011, and I am in for a new phone.
I currently have an Iphone 3GS, and would like to upgrade to android.
I don't really want to go Iphone 4, reasons will be explained further in the post.
So my choices are SGSII,Nexus S,HTC Sensation.
What I like about the SGSII, its fastest, SAMOLED, much capacity,
dislike, the plastic not stury/tough feeling.
HTC sensation, yeah it got the sturdiness and toughness, and camera is a bit better but thats it, doesnt have real big cons, lil less ram than SGSII and doesn't have a big internal memory.
Nexus S, I dont know rofl. SAMOLED Screen
Contract durations for HTC&SGSII is 2 years.
" " for the Nexus is only 1 year.
Ill need to add a 38 euro on top of my contract for SGSII.
It's totally free, the HTC with same Contract.
Nexus needs only 24 euro, note 1 year only!
Well if i chose the Nexus I could let the dual core mature.
Not many things are optimized anyway for Dual core.
If I chose the SGSII, well yeah it got many + but sturdiness is something really important for me.
HTC, it got less memory but heck i could buy from the 34 euro memory, price difference.
Now we are at the Iphone part, yeah the problem is I need to add a whopping 190 euro for a iphone 4 with 2 year contract, and 16GB.
All contracts are the same, same provider and same contract only contract lengths vary.
Also, if I get the Nexus i am able to choose between black white and silver!
Yeah that would totally be awesome silver, and doesnt it have the rumoured 2.4?
oh yeah who need Google+ pm meh
updated my titl.
does now anybody wants to help i hope so.
Galaxy S2. Sensation isnĀ“t device what we want. Get a Evo 3D or a Galaxy s2
well Nexus S is also a choice as it only is 1 year
and its a great phone overall except it lacks a dual core..
and I would be able to get the n33t color Silver,
maybe it has android 2.4 ??
Also the screen wont be silver i guess, thats something i dislike/...
I've used all of them so here we go!
Does looking at a SAMOLED+ make your pants wet?
>If Yes, get the SGSII
>If No, Continue
Do you like Sense and use Sense Apps alot?
>If Yes, get the Sensation
>If No, Continue
Are you maticulous about keeping your screen "Scratch Free"?
>If Yes, get the SGSII
>If No, Continue
Do you want no extra features, a curved phone, a miss-matched UI Out-dated and the plasicy feel of Samsung without the GorillaGlass?
>If Yes, Get the Nexus S
>If No, Repeat and be more honest
Doesn't take into account contract length but...eh
Your contract isn't up til October? A lot can happen in the smartphone world in 3 months, something could come along or be announced that you want more.
That said, the nexus will always be first to get android OS updates, including ice cream sandwich (which will be coming later this year and will be 4.0).

lol also it would be rooted so yeah the ui, who cares about that?
and curved phone isn't that totally awesome?
honestly i dunno maybe it is maybe it isnt.
Nexus S also has a SAMOLED, as its been made by samsung? and choice one is also a samsung so i dont/can't understand your negativenism about it if you start with a samsung phone in your list.
also i get to choose between, black/white/silver
SILVER
and when will the quads come?
Go sgs! you can always get rid of touchwizz.
Audren - SGS2 i9100 MIUI 1.7.8 - xda premium app
well SGSII is my least favorite choice..
it's too light, and i dont really like it how thin it is.
what about if i sit on it?
my phone is ****ed then. becuase of its thinness.
Is it me or do you guys dislike the Nexus S?
I sense some doubt.... choose the nexus s. It won't disappoint you and after a year with Android you also know if you like the os.
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
I'm very confused which to choose.
Nexus S is cheap as its only a 1 year contract with T-mobile NL,
the HTC+SGSII will both be 2 years,
but I am wavering cause in that one year there might be happening something big..

According to what I've read, the Nexus S would be the best choice for music playing. It supposedly has a Wolfson DAC. And it has an actual gyrometer like the iPhone 4. The Nexus S is like a Farrari clothed in an Hyundai. It has some high-spec hardware. Think of it as Google's iPhone.
But if I were to choose between those 3, I would probably go with the Sensation. I love the style and feel of the Sensation and Sense 3 is excellent. I know that when I got my Inspire, I felt about it the same way I feel about the Sensation and found that I continually value my Inspire...it continually pleases me...in stock form, no less.
For best audio - Nexus S
For lasting appeal - Sensation
For high-end specs - SGS2
By far the SGSII is the best phone for the money out of your choices. But, you seem sold on the nexus s.. so get that.
if you are worried about it being to light or thin (whaa?) try this... http://www.otterbox.com/Samsung-Gal...olor=20&start=1&cgid=samsung-galaxy-s-2-cases
All in all, we really aren't going to do anymore convincing for you, since you already have your mind (pretty much) made up.
To me, it looks clear that you've already chosen The Nexus S, now I'm curious why it receives updates first?

because it is Google's platform phone i.e. - meant to show off Android's capabilities. It is completely untouched stock Android, so when Google pushes out updates, the Nexus line is the first to get it. It is also Google's development device, and developers need access to new updates to get their applications running smoothly on them.
All in all, the Nexus line aims to give the Android experience, as Google intended for it to be consumed.
nope not at all, its just that you guys assume i set my eyes on Nexus S.
But thats only because you guys only said SGSII and that was my least favorite choice, and not much about the sensation which was my 2nd choice.
the samsung has some bad things i heard about and i absolutely dont want to have, i might get a revision that fixed it but i might not. The yellowing.
and abotu that otterbox i dont know if it will feel right.
It looks like i set my eyes on the nexus cuz it was a phone i always wanted till the dual cores came, so it got scrapped of my list. but now it is way cheaper than any other phone, so i reconsidered this phone again. The get is why i actually want it is cause I just want to see how much the multicore chips will develop in that time frame and maybe i would get a much better optimized phone when my nexus contract ends then.
Samsung Galaxy S II! Dual-core, 4.3" screen, and it looks beautiful!
lol just gone to the shop,
they started **** about the SGS+ being super fast like an half time faster than his SGS ETC. that dual core is slow becuase it has dual core, i thought so wtf??
he explained like becuase the work load is spread over 2 cores the workload is 2 times as much, omg....
reverse psychology as nvidia explained their TEGRA? rofl rofl rofl..
and he said the Nexus S just plain sucked cuz its a google phone..

Yeah, apparently Samsung is making very enticing offers to sales staff for every Samsung branded phone they sell. It happens, and even though the Nexus S is a Samsung phone, it's a Google branded phone and Samsung wouldn't make as much on its sales as they would on their main product.
He said i would better not buy a dual core like the SGSII and said i could better take the SGS+ cuz its faster?
so he get something for selling samsung? but doesnt recommend the SGSII?

Ok so I bought a Captivate day 1 when it was released and it is a great phone dont get me wrong. but after coming from htc devices where the pace of development is so much faster than this i feel like moving on to something different. I like my captivate but i dont LOVE it. i am on the verge of trading my captivate for an HTC HD2..... i just kinda wanna know what you guys think? thanks so much and please dont stone me for this.
If you feel limited only due to the current software features of the Captivate, I would recommend you stick around - it is taking some time but soon enough there will be loads of development based around the Captivate and other Galaxy S phone models. Whether it be custom ROMS or OTA updates.
However, if you're restricted due to the lower 5MP camera without flash or another hardware limitation you may want to switch devices while yours is still high in value.

LMAO, What's this guys problem? Steve is that you, in your beltless jeans and turtle neck??
On topic: The HD2 is nice, but the 1ghz Snapdragon is power hungry at 65nm and only delivers 35% of the graphics power of the 45nm Hummingbird (Easy to OC). The Captivates screen is better aswell (500,000:1 contrast!!!!), and it can support up to 50gigs over 32. (16 onboard, 32 Sd, and 2GB ROM = 50gb) I had the same choice to make, and The Galaxy S is a clear winner, unless you want winmo and android.

Hi, I think we have the same problem, but when I decide to buy the captivate I've already own a HTC HD2. I love all the specs listed on the samsung captivate (located on AT&T's web page), but when finally got the captivate on my hands I've just couldn't let go my HTC HD2. I order to get more Android friendly, long before I received my captivate, I start to use froyo on the HTC HD2, love how it feels, but when I need to work with my devices, it all comes down to switch back to WM (may be because my life is ruled by microsoft). It's so hard for me to leave behind my HTC HD 2, that I still uses both phones (siwchting between froyo 2.1, Froyo Stone Sence HTC HD2 and WM). Last night I've instaled the latest update to my Captivate and here I'm giving the last chance to my samsung device to be up to the challenge. by the end of the week i'll give you a finall decition.
It honestly depends on your usage. I understand one of the bigger things I've noticed from this article is that you are shooting for a 4.3 inch screen. If you are shooting for a large screen phone (for watching hours and hours of youtube and movies) maybe the HD2 is best for you.
I've owned a good chunk of smartphones from the Aria to the Streak, and I've got to tell you...there's not alot that beats the Captivate. I watched the Expendables (HD quality rip) on my Captivate, and since that day...I don't think other phones compare at this point in that aspect.
Keep in mind the SAMOLED screen, the Video via 3.5 mm jack, and the Gorilla Glass and make your decision .
Just know that from what i've seen in my time here, XDA is with you 100% on whatever choice you make.
Thanks everyone for you input. I love my captivate but i did trade it for an HD2 and i love my HD2 so far. the screen is awesome but most of all i love the insanely large amount of roms available for it!

Well, it's been out for 10 months.
So I'm getting the itch to get a new phone. I've currently got a Cliq that I've rooted and customized as I like it so I don't NEED a new phone. I just want one.
I'm with T-Mobile and my wife just recently got the Vibrant. In messing around with it, I think that without the Touch wiz, I'd be really happy with it. Which leads me to the Nexus S. The only reservation I have about the Nexus is the lack of SD card since I carry a ton of music with me for flights. It's not a deal breaker by any means, but it does make me pause.
Does anyone know of any new phones that may be coming out within the next 3-4 months that may be better than the Nexus S?
Thanks
There is always something better around the corner...
But the main advantage to getting a stock Google Phone is that you will get OS updates much faster then everyone else with android skinned devices.
If you like android this is an excellent buy.
Yeah, I know that is a huge advantage to the Nexus line, but I also know that if there is a great phone out there, people will root it and develop for it.
Like I said, I don't "need" a new phone, and the only thing making me think twice is the lack of SD card for music and movie space. (I travel a lot so the less electronics I have to pack the better.) I'm just curious if it would be better for me to wait to buy one in a few months or take the plunge Thursday.
The thing about the Nexus S is that it's future proof, by that I mean so many phones out there will only get 2 updates and thats it. With the Nexus S you could keep it as long as you want because you know your going to continually get updates directly from Google.
Too many people pay attention to wether or not there is better hardware on the horizon when they really should pay attention to whether their software will continue to be updated and keep the device alive and youthful.

To answer your actual question, the only two that have *strong* rumors that I've heard of, are the Evo Shift and the Playstation phone. As for the Shift, the current rumors don't put its specs as all that impressive (no front camera and snapdragon CPU). Supposedly we'll hear about the Playstation phone in February. I've read that its display is supposed to rival the iPhone 4's, whatever that is. In addition, there is a not so strong rumor that Samsung's next flagship will be in Q1. Which should definitely be better than the Nexus S in specs. Motorola is supposed to unveil some new hotness at CES. Probably actually launched late Q1 or after.
My guess is if you want a phone that clearly blows away the Nexus S, you'll be waiting until Q2 or Q3 of next year.
basically it comes down to this.
If your a t-mobile customer and are not going to leave anytime soon, then the Nexus S is the best phone for you.
If you don't mind leaving t-mobile, then wait because in 4-6 months verizon and sprint will probably both get dual core phones but it'll probably be 12 months for T-Mobile to get off their ass and get one. outside of the galaxy s 2, but thats touchwiz.
Also if you just want a stock android phone, then go for it as well because there won't be another one for a while.
Q2 or Q3 may be too long for me. I've read of the Playstation phone and it seems like it may be pretty cool, but I just don't know if I want to wait that long. Is it going to be unlocked to all carriers? I am in a 2 year contract with T-Mobile due to getting my wife a new phone, leaving is pretty much not an option.
More than likely my desire for a new phone will overtake my ability to wait and I'll be at a Best Buy Thursay morning before work.
Any chance they will add an SD card to the Nexus S in the near future???

no idea how the playstation phone carrier wise is going to work, hopefully it will be all carriers, but who knows.
Unfortountly it's safe to say that they will not be adding in an SD slot to the Nexus S. Between tons of apps to stream music and video, and the 13GB of storage that acts like an SD, it should be enough.
You could always buy the Nexus S then return it before the 30 days if they announce promising phones during CES. I'll be working the registration desk at CES so hopefully I have time to look around to play around with all the new phones and gagdets.

Within the next 3-4 months? Hmm.
And also, better? They may be competitors, depending on how you look at it.
There's the LG Star, Motorola Olympus, PlayStation Phone, Evo Shift, and possible Galaxy S 2. Not all of these are confirmed for next '3-4 months' and even then, they might not even be "better".
Sure, the LG Star packs a Tegra 2. Which, in all honesty, has a GPU which barely tops the Hummingbird. Tegra 2 is nothing to be too excited about. If you want a dual core, you want the dual core Snapdragon or the Orion. The Orion will most likely be the only one paired with a gorgeous Super Amoled which is unmatched but this is also preference. Even then, these may not be out for over 4 months.
Also you need to consider software. Generally, nothing runs faster than AOSP. Nor is as open nor fast to get updated. The Nexus One STILL holds its ground merely because it has Froyo when Galaxy S phones still don't. It may not be as powerful as fast, and it may be sluggish, but it's still "ahead" in a sense. This will probably be the case with the Nexus S and Honeycomb, with the exception that this thing has a friggin Hummingbird, which is theoretically capable of running Quake 3 Arena at 90fps with the 56 fps limit unlocked.
Don't get me wrong though, the Tegra 2 isn't BAD. But it isn't worth jumping the gun over a Hummingbird when the Snapdragon and Orion are around the corner to the Tegra 2. Tegra 2 and Hummingbird is like an 'either, or'. Don't let the Tegra 2 be your deciding factor. It's all about the carrier, the way the phone feels to you, and just personal preference in general. If you think the LG Star is hot, then that's what you should get. If you think the Nexus S is hot, then that's what you should get. They will probably perform about equal.

The thing about the PlayStation Phone is that well, it's clunky and huge, and potentially ugly.
I'll tell everyone a secret android is all about software so even if someone puts out a quadcore phone that still won't let it get the newest updates any faster. After 2 years of owning stock android phones I have read thousands of posts of people complaining about why their super phone has yet to get the latest update. Even nexus users had a thread that was 5000 posts of them yelling at Google because 2.2 was a month late.

The only problem is that Android isn't built and optimized (yet) for more than one core. The dual core isn't going to be making a huge impact probably for another six months or more. If you are looking for a phone now, it sounds like the Nexus S is it.
I think this thread convinced me finally to get the NS
Are you guys sure you want a dual core phone? Because, you know, there are already rumors of a quad core phone coming out in 2012 or whatever. Might as well wait for it.
I'm on TMobile... I won't be waiting around. I'm grateful this phone is releasing because after that you got the MT4G's childish face looking you in the eye. And who knows how soon TMO will drop us another gem that competes w/ the NS.

42fps nenamark + 67 fps neocore @ lg star... 1-8fps more for tegra in comparsion to hummingbird is way less then i thought and not worth an upgrade (yet) .... the difference between snapdragon and hunmingbird is much bigger regarding the gpu
Edit: getting 47.1fps on my sgs in nenamark... 59fps at neocore(seems to be limited to 59...) sooo where's the point in tegra2 anyway?

Hey mklgee, you mentioned buying the Nexus S and then returning within 30 days. Is this an option Best Buy does with smartphones? If so, that is an interesting idea if something does pop up soon after the Nexus release.
After reading these discussions, I think I will just go ahead and get the Nexus S on Thursday. I do wish it had an SD card though. I currently have a 16gb SD card in my Cliq that is filled with music, pics, and app info. I just hope a phone doesn't come out say in April that is so much better to make me remourseful.
Thanks for the discussion points guys.

Most stores have 30 day return policies generally. They may charge restocking fees. Look it up
I believe that new Nexus S will let the google down. I had many issues with samsung products in the past, and I saw glitching stock vibrants. What you guys personally think about it?
I think Samsung wants to screw over their current customers. Then again, I am assuming they are doing this because of the leaks.
Yay, lets mix freedom and complete control and see what we get.... It's retarded and the nexus name is forever tarnished.
I would have loved to see the Nexus line stay with HTC but let's face it, they didn't do a great job with the Nexus One. Crappy digitizer and failing power buttons...
Nexus supposed to be the Android of all androids... But with samsung it will drown. I think dead buttons is nothing compare to a brick, which Nexus S will turn for sure.
Galaxy S phones failed big time. Lagging like hell and freezing. Not to mention previous samsung phones.
I could be wrong too. Lets see how Nexus S will go. Maybe samsung learned the lesson.
Do any of you guys have the phone? Did you create a thread just to bash something you haven't used? I have mine OCed to 1.4 GHz, running stable with CM7. Everything is blazing fast, as lag free as reasonably possible, and I have quadrant scoring at 3700+. Let me know when you can beat that.

Used one for 3 days before wishing the world was flat so I could throw it off the edge. Even with the "new version" the fragmentation compared to the first version of windows phone 7 is just awful. After playing with it I cant find much if any difference from 2.2. If I wanted to throw money away like that I'd buy a vibrant on craigslist for 150, add a front facing camera, then use it as toilet paper that being the most practical use for galaxy S garbage.

Actually I heard somewhere that the Nexus line is suppose to represent "pushing the Android line and what to expect from future Android phones."

Nope, happy with WP7, boy it's great to not lag on the homescreen
The Nexus S is a Samsung product that actually works. They've actually put a lot more effort in the Nexus S than they have the Galaxy S, which is sad to see on many levels. With the build of the Nexus S, and the power of hummingbird, the Nexus S is what all Galaxy S phones should have been. My Moment was a brick in terms of build, dropped it all the time but nothing went wrong with it. But the fact that it had no real hardware support for openGL, was built on 1.5 even though 1.5 didn't support CDMA, and the network issues were so far up there, I'd have to reset my phone 3 times a day! I had to send it back 2 more times and the same thing over and over! Rooting wouldn't help either! So they try to pawn the Intercept off to me as an "upgrade." A smaller resolution that most apps don't support, a slower network, and no Amoled screen? That's not an upgrade. When I had my Epic, the build quality was okay, nothing close to what my Evo is though. But I was tired of waiting for an update that should have come stock on the phone! With a phone like the Galaxy S there is no reason is should have shipped with 2.1! I'm glad Google is the one supporting the Nexus S and not Samsung, because then the Nexus S would have been stuck on 2.3 for half a year after the next Android comes out. I wouldn't mind the Nexus S, but that would be the only Samsung phone I would buy now. After 2 that had terrible support from Samsung, yeah right.

Samsung products suck. I told earlier, somewhere in other post, that I could be wrong about Nexus S. Lets see how it will go. I personally do not trust Samsung Brand.

Disagree with you a little bit there. I've got a Samsung TV, and Bluray player and both are amazing. It's their phone products that aren't too great. The Nexus S like I said, is what the Galaxy S should have been.
Samsung's hardware is amazing in my opinion.. Their tv's are the best,, and we saw it on our samoled screens.. I show my phone's picture to people and they are wowed... My vibrant is nice rooted on froyo.. But stock.... It's a piece of...
Thank xda for awesome developers.
samsung's software (touch wiz) sucks..
they don't release updates or keep their word.. They piss enough people off. But people keep coming back..
The nexus is saved by google. but honestly.. The nexus one set new standards on upcoming android phones. We didn't see much competition.. The nexus s came out.. With the same hardware we saw two seasons ago.. New standards? Na I don't think so.. instead we are looking forward to dual core phones.. 4g capable phones.. And to me the nexus isnt much of a difference from what we already had.. Cmon samsung! You should have surprised us with new shzz!
Still love my Vibrant though.. Just wish it was officially on froyo, had an FFC, perhaps some 4g capability... Psh.. I WISH! -__-"
Here I agree. I have samsung tv myself, and it is good. I also had their portable audio players, but they were bad. Nexus S has no sd card slot, 16 gb isnt bad, but what about powerusers? No 3G + support, full 4G coverage is still in the far future. Processor is still the same as in previous phones. No gig of ram. Its like a tiny upgrade of nexus one, not counting 4G and front camera. Oh wait, isnt back camera is 5 megapixels?
They should stop making dozens of models, and create 1 master phone, that kicks asses.

That's sort of what they do now. They have two basis for their major phones.
Hummingbird
or
Samsung S3C6410
They've used Hummingbird in all of their high end phones, and the S3 in their mid-low end phones, and their older flagships like the Spica, the Moment. It's used now in another Galaxy phone I know(Not sure which one), I believe the Behold II has the cpu just not clocked as high, the Transform uses it, and the Intercept uses it.
I have sold my Wave S8500 and Galaxy I5800...I have learned my lesson.....No more Samsung produtcs for me.
Bad quality hardware and bad software support (updates, etc.) and bad customer service.
Google is making a huge mistake here!!
put simply...samsung hardware rocks, but samsung software blows. they really need to dump touchwiz and start from scratch...but imagine htc sense running on a galaxy s...epic win
I own both a Nexus one and a Nexus S. The NS is by far the better phone. Sure the N1 has metal and looks great it is in no way comparable to the NS. No android phone out right now compares with the NS.

If true thats ridiculous....the GS2 isn't even out yet! Can we wait at least a year and a half for a successor?? I'd imagine many wont be pleased is thats true...
I want to get a new phone but its crazy how so may phones come out so quickly and out-dating the other...I feel like just getting the Iphone 5 and stick with that, at least there wont be a million choices like with android and get tempted to keep switching back and forth, I swear with android its like a new phone thats better comes out shortly after one phone comes out.
Anyone think they know what IP5 might have? Dual Core, better screen, different design, better Camera?

Note how that article says samsung is thinking of a 2ghz device sometime next year, NOT this year, then there is speculation that the device is the SGS3, and then there is someone doing even further speculation that it could come out this fall, even though we know this is impossible partly because the SGS2 variant for verizon probably won't be out until a couple months before then at best based on current news. This is just overspeculation leading to insane predictions. SGS3 in Jan or Feb next year is possible though if Tegra 3 is out by then though, as samsung will want to compete, but that's just my own speculation and have no factual data backing it as well.
Meh, I like having the highest tiered phone as much as the next guy so something new/awesome coming out right after I got the past top tier phone is a little irritating, however having new things out is always great.
I can't see me needing anything stronger than the Galaxy S 2; I would love a 4.5 inch screen but 4.3 and the specs it has is great.
The Wonders of competition I'd rather they were doing this than have technology move very slowly, Just pick a phone you like, Not slow, looks good, nice screen, decent camera and then stick with it

Agreed. You can drive yourself insane waiting for the perfect device. Pick whatever suits you best when you need a new phone and stick with it for a year or two or until you genuinely need more power.
I stuck with my mt3g as long as I could. Now I have the mt4g and love it! I don't anticipate outgrowing it any time soon.

Seriously this is getting annoying. How am I suppose to keep up with that... They need to invest in their current devices instead of shooting out new ones every half a year...

I totally agree with is statement, its getting so you cant even appreciate te phone you waited for. I have a friend who literally buys every verizon phone as it comes out and sells his current phone everytime. I personally will be buying e sensation and thats it for atleast s year.

It is pretty frustrating :S Especially for Canadians, we get locked in 3 year contracts, not 2
the grass is always greener.
Well you're not alone. It's not like software/graphics wise, it's keeping up with the hardware. I don't really see any game that's pushing the tegra devices to their limit, or even power vr sgx540.
So point being, even if hardware improves dramatically next year, last year's phones will still keep up with what today demands.
sgs2 is already out, just not in north america yet.

It's not true.
If it were true, IT Portal wouldn't have put a question mark on the end of the headline.
But you visited the page, and probably saw some ads. IT Portal got advertising revenue. A few thousand more like you, and IT Portal sustains its business.
Who cares about the truth when you've a business to run?

Lulzy.
I don't see a problem with SGS the Third coming out next year... one solid leap forward every year sounds perfectly legitimate to me so long as the tech and improvements are keeping pace.
Yeah. I'm a little knicked that I got a great phone (HTC HD2) released here in the US a little over a year ago, then the next thing I know it's EVO with Android, no Android for the HD2 (still the best hardware out there) and no Windows Phone 7 upgrade for the HD2 either from TMO. Now I'm trolling XDA and trying to put together the info and ability (and trying to work up the balls) to set up my HD2 on a dual boot with Android on SD and WinMo 6.5 NAND.
It gets old.
wth!!! how look that? i think really better than GS2
I bought a nexus S May 26. I left my pre for it. I was happy with my pre, but the battery life had become unbearable (4-6 hrs) and the sales person was good. My opening line to him was, "I don't want the Nexus S bc it is last gen tech No dual core no gyroscope." Anyways I was talked into getting it.
Now the rumors are running rampant with news of the Samsung Within coming in July! (I know this does not amount to anything) I called sprint and straight up asked the rep if sprint was getting a galaxy S 2. He put me on hold for a min while he asked he higher up when he came back he told me "I can neither confirm nor deny sprint getting a galaxy S 2"
The Nexus S is a great phone. Although I have been able to make it stutter while loading web pages (engadget joystiq). The battery life is good, but anything is good coming from the pre with an old battery.
So my prob is do I return my Nexus S in the next 2 days and wait for the SGS2 to come out? Or be happy with what I got?
I am open to ALL opinions.
I would just get the SGS2. The phone is more "future proof", and if you're going to be running custom roms on it anyway, then all the more so.
Only reason I'd go for NS over SGS2 at this time is the stock barebones android vs the bada UI which I don't quite like.
I got my NS in January cos it made sense then. 6 months later, I can't say I would do it again.
Agree that SGS2 will be pretty much future proof. However, any improvements in hardware ( dual core) will not create any noticeable effects on daily usage.
My best bet is to wait I guess. And furthermore no phones are future proof
Hummingbirds are pretty much for now.

Have you played with the SGS2? It just launched under Starhub yesterday right?
It's a pretty sweet device. IMO, the only thing the NS has over the SGSII is that we're gonna get ICS first. That's if you're gonna flash custom ROMs of course.
At this point, hardware-wise, SGSII is the best Android phone there is. It's got all the goodness of the NS but that dual core processor instead of a single.

Yes, but however I went to test the SGS2 I found that the software isn't as optimized as NS. And moreover, the ram management just isn't up to the mark.

Ive owned both and will say that the sgs2 is hands down the fastest stock phone made right now. But the problem with both phones is that you will get bored with them very fast. If your like me that is.
Bottom line, if i were choosing between the 2 I'd take the sgs2 over the sns in a heart beat. The sgs2 is gaining dev attention fast and that will make it more fun.
Just my opinion.
