[Q] Better way to take photos with the default camera app? - HTC Sensation

I feel like this is a really silly question and a forum search yielded no one with the same question so it seems like I might just be missing something obvious!
Is there not an easier way to take a photo than to have to hit the little small "capture" icon when you're using the camera app? It works fine when you're taking a photo normally but when you either do a self camwhore shot or taking a photo of you and someone else, you face the camera towards you and then you can't see where the capture button.
I've been making due by putting my fingers really close to the button and then flipping the phone over and trying to get two of us in the photo just to realize that my finger didn't hit the capture button.
The front facing camera is awful but that makes sense.
I would have thought something as basic as double tapping or holding the screen would take a photo but that doesn't seem to work for me.
Thanks!

I would think the easiest way would be to use the self-timer feature

camera app?

Has any one seen a camera app where the shutter is on the screen. I hate using the ball to take pictures.
the AOSP camera app has it, you could rip it out of an AOSP rom
I thought you could just longpress to automatically focus and immediately take a shot
any one have a tutorial on how to rip the camera out out?

well you just download the rom, unzip it, go to system/app/ and there's your apk (if the rom isn't odexed)
AOSP Camera.apk attached.
First, and very important, turn Auto Focus "OFF". This will prevent it from changing focus all the time. It will auto focus when you long press, just not any time it wants to. The long press until you see the menu pull out disappear and it will focus and take the picture. I found that you have to use the trackball to take the picture after you focus the first time. After that you should just be able to long press to take the picture. If you need anymore help, please feel free to let me know. Remember auto focus off for the standard camera app.
Camera Magic app has it on the screen

[Q] [request] take a picture with the volume buttons on the nexus one

I don't know if this is possible or if its already been done but i think it would be cool if we could take a picture with either the volume up or down button while in the camera app.
+1 on this. You know...contrary to popular belief some people with smart phones do have friends and enjoy taking pictures with them :]
found this, not tried it.

landscape pictures in portrait mode

i m holding my phone 90% of the time vertivally. i would love to take pix while riding my bike for an example and quickly use my camera with only one hand
is it possible (or theres an app for that) set the camera to take landscape snapshots in portrait mode? could apply to video cam too.
I have not seen an app for that. It's a good idea. would also be nice if when in camera mode the power button became the shutter button.
I'm thinking this might be a hardware limitation.
I don't understand what you're asking.
Whether it's landscape or portrait doesn't change the actual picture being taken... just how it's displayed in the gallery.
And the gallery can rotate pictures for you.
Otherwise you're asking for something crazy like a rotating lens.
Sent from my Captivate.
He's saying he wants to take a landscape picture when holding the phone like your taking a portrait. Not the same as taking a picture in portrait then flipping it sideways, because that rotates the subject. I've also wished I could do this especially when taking a video (hold and shoot like a flip in one hand).

can the image that the lens is seeing in landscape mode be translated in the same format when your holding the device vertically to take a picture, leaving some empty space in the bottom part, for the settings and shutter button?
like the videos playing in the new youtube app when holding the device vertically.
so when youre holding the phone vertically you have 2 format options to take pictures with: portrait or landscape
i miss my blackberry b/c it allowed me to take landscape/portrait pictures with one hand.
i wish i knew coding i'll be working on that instead of asking about it or probably someone after reading this will!
Vignette.....works perfectly for what you are after and better quality pics as well

camera app for tab with autofocus?

Does anyone know a camera app that uses the full screen of the tab?
With the integrated camera app not using autofocus it is mostly useless to me since i cant read any text i photograph.
I tried several other apps. They all use the autofocus and it works great, but they dont utilize the full screen of the tab.
The camera app in JM6 features touch-to-focus, and I have no problems making photos of text. Maybe i could post the apk + odex files, for testing on stock firmware.
Yes, the app works fine, its me that didnt function correctly.
You just have to hold the button down, it will autofocus and beep when done.
Thanks very much for thay info now alsi i Focus.

Another strong user of Vignette here.
I posted a topic on the use of Vignette over the stock camera App.
Vignette has so much more to offer and one special mention has to go with 'Zoom'. As you all know the default camera has no zoom but id you use Vignette it uses a very clever 'live crop' tool that works very much like a zoom.
An added benefit is you get to see the surrounding area you are cropping out of the shot..... AND the shot taken is so, so much better than the default camera App.
Much greater detail, cleaner, sharper focus and better colours.
Next is the settings..... there is an absolute MAMMOTH of settings to choose from.
I have one customized that gives me an 'ND Filter' at a touch of a button.
In my experience, if you're looking for the most options & filters, then Vignette is the way to go. But if you're looking to take the best possible "normal" photos, Camera360 is tops for that.
I don't know what it is, but Camera360 shots ALWAYS are clearer & much more detailed/cleaner looking in comparison shots against Vignette.

I must confess, although I have great admiration for Vignette, Camera360 Ultimate definitely does have some very good settings.
Of particular value I find the 'Tilt-Shift' to be fantastic. I also like the focus settings with it's 'Manual Focus' where you can focus on a subject then move the camera to another subject to throw the focus out.
So, my recommendation for photography would be Vignette & Camera360 Ultimate for taking the shot and Picsay Pro to post edit for even better image processed results.

We can Record video on the Wide Angle lens!

Hi again! I can believe that OP didnt give us the option to record video with the wide angle lens. I've found it very useful. So, searching a little bit, i find this code *#*#1597#*#* that you put in dialer, to open de developer camera api.
Digging into the app, i realize that you CAN record 1080p video with the wide lens, so.. theres any mod to skip this awful step, copying the code, everytime i wanna use this function?
I dont know why we dont have this option native in the app.
PS: sorry for my bad english!

What are you talking about? I dont understand. The black background on a portrait mode is a Samsung Feature, for example.
You're holding it wrong.
Why won't phone manufacturers fix this obvious problem?
IE, when the phone is held vertically the capture is still a proper 16x9 wide screen?
Vertical video capture is ruining everything!

Hey! Calm down. That was just a test. I think we would be more open mind. Some content its better to see in horizontal, other content its better in vertical. Im a photographer and sometimes, there are stories that are better to told in vertical, cuz i wanna told you something in that form, for example, this pics here: the vertical one, have a special touch, a unique point of view im comparison to the horizontal one

Sorry if I came off sounding harsh, it's a major pet peeve of mine!
Still photos in portrait orientation are fine obviously.
It's the video that's the issue.
A simple solution to this problem can be fixed on all devices, not sure why the manufacturers don't implement it!
I don't have the wide angle option. Clicking multiple times and only switches between 1x and 3x

Hey! Hello!
You have to open the front camera and switch again to rear camera. You will see in red (Wide).
