Has any one seen a camera app where the shutter is on the screen. I hate using the ball to take pictures.
the AOSP camera app has it, you could rip it out of an AOSP rom
I thought you could just longpress to automatically focus and immediately take a shot
any one have a tutorial on how to rip the camera out out?

well you just download the rom, unzip it, go to system/app/ and there's your apk (if the rom isn't odexed)
AOSP Camera.apk attached.
First, and very important, turn Auto Focus "OFF". This will prevent it from changing focus all the time. It will auto focus when you long press, just not any time it wants to. The long press until you see the menu pull out disappear and it will focus and take the picture. I found that you have to use the trackball to take the picture after you focus the first time. After that you should just be able to long press to take the picture. If you need anymore help, please feel free to let me know. Remember auto focus off for the standard camera app.
Camera Magic app has it on the screen

If i had to guess yes you can.
Since Snap gives you the option to be set as default.
MOD EDIT: removed instructions
Might wanna wait till someone with more expertise confirms or directs you to correction.
Would you still be able to update SnapPhoto from the Market if you did this?
thanx for the adb code
im going to try it out right now
ok it works find i just made a mistake.
Thanks mikey1022!!

Yeah just like normal
Found a problem.
i made SnapPhoto to the default camera, but when im going to attach to a message and i choose camera and i get unexpected error
any solution?
I remember reading somewhere on the forum if you delete the camera.apk, you wouldn't be able to change your wallpaper & you might lose your pictures app. Are you still able to change the wallpaper & browse your pics?
Sounds like you need to place Camera.apk back in
the Camera app is built in and can not be removed without consequence.
It controls more than just the camera
is there a reason you want to replace it? you can have both at the same time.
I would have to guess....space
Ill go back so dum of me but i didnt back up the apk. so should I just reflash my current blue star 5 theme?
ALWAYS BACKUP EVERYTHING...fyi
If you need I will upload both the apk and odex
why delete the original camera software? just set SnapPhoto as the default camera and it will open when you press the shutter button.
Menu > Settings > Set as default camera
works fine
neoobs, hey my pictures app went away so if you could upload that for me would that include the pictures app with the camera app or could you upload those both please!!!!!
We know that.....why? unless he tells use, we can guess.
It happend, its over, hopefully he learned something out of this
BACKUP.
Plus that/this is also how he/myself learn also.
Taking the easy road at times isn't always fun. Take what this forum is all about. Taking things to their limits one way or another.

yes sirr neoobs
here you go

and at that I close this thread.
FINAL CONCLUSION: DO NOT DELETE CAMERA.APK
I feel like this is a really silly question and a forum search yielded no one with the same question so it seems like I might just be missing something obvious!
Is there not an easier way to take a photo than to have to hit the little small "capture" icon when you're using the camera app? It works fine when you're taking a photo normally but when you either do a self camwhore shot or taking a photo of you and someone else, you face the camera towards you and then you can't see where the capture button.
I've been making due by putting my fingers really close to the button and then flipping the phone over and trying to get two of us in the photo just to realize that my finger didn't hit the capture button.
The front facing camera is awful but that makes sense.
I would have thought something as basic as double tapping or holding the screen would take a photo but that doesn't seem to work for me.
Thanks!
I would think the easiest way would be to use the self-timer feature

Exactly what I was going to say.
Can someone test this Camera.apk? It is from the Samsung Galaxy SII.
Here's the lowdown, it allows one to the volume buttons to act as a camera button, IF it works and devs implement into their roms it would be a pretty useful tweak due to our lack of a dedicated camera button on our phone. I'm not experienced with this kind of stuff so it might be a useless question. I DID NOT make this.

Thanks guys!
I'm not sure the source of the camera app, but if you use SGS tools to upgrade the default camera app(you can always revert) it lets you use the power button as a shutter. The only problem with it is that the photos taken with the front cam are oriented weird, but that's not a big issue at all.

This .apk breaks video, fyi.
I am on Stock ICS but my camera app is very slow and autofocus is also not working properly. Also, the gallery app is very slow and really takes time to zoom the pictures (Picture viewing app like QuickPic works really fast).
I just want to know that if I flash JB(4.2) Camera app, will it work better. I want to know that whether it will replace the default Camera app or will work as a separate application ? If it doesn't work properly how can I remove it?
Link for JB 4.2 Camera and Gallery app http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1965895
Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah it will work fine, youve to be rooted though.
It will work like a separate application and you can remove the app by removing the apk files and lib files /system/app and system/lib resp. We'll get into details if you don't feel like having it, first see if u like it.
Edit: BTW, the photosphere mode won't work for our phone since our phone doesn't have a gyroscope.
If auto focus and stock gallery are a problem, there's always the RazrM camera app in this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32286710
It has multi shot and shutter tone toggle which the 4.2 is currently missing. Also you can link the gallery from the camera as quickpic and autofocus is as good as any moto camera app.

When you click on the gallery icon on top right of the camera screen.. it'll ask you to select a default application to open photos.

Theres no widget to directly toggle 2g/3g, the max you can do is get to the Mobile Network Settings page and select the desired network
i use 2G-3G On Off widget by curvefish from play store.. gets the work done..
are you able to select 2g or 3g network from Settings/Mobile Networks/Select Network ? if not then heres a mod to change that

If you swipe the right side of the screen towards the left it shows the pics in your gallery in a slide show like carousel. You can go back and fourth instantly. Pretty cool.
Also when u hit the video button it starts recording instantly instead of having to switch to video and then hit record.
If anyone finds any other features please post them.
i tried to load this on alliance...is it not compatible with that? or am i not seeing exactly what this is for?
Doesn't work for me either. I'm on wicked sensations 4.3. I installed apk and push to system. Doesn't work either way.

I have those settings but Im not sure if they work since I never mess with them. I know HDR mode isnt available for us.

Camera is great! But for some reason I can't seem to get video recording to work. Anyone?
Thats weird! Mine works fine and I can take pics while recording. Did u install as a regular app or push to system /app? This is the first time Ive heard of someone having issues with this and ive been all over XDA trying to keep track of this app in many different forums. Maybe a bad download?

I installed it as an app. Perhaps I'll remove it and push it as a system app and see if that works. Thanks for the suggestion. I see that you're running paranoid. I'm running cm11,so it should work if it works for you... I'll report back.
