For those waiting for a Sensation on Orange, the wait in finally over
I got a call last night letting me know that the stock had finally been tested and released. Their site still says coming soon but if you call up you should be able to order. Mine's been dispatched and should be with me tomorrow!
Hope for your sake they've not ruined it with crapware
Me too
I was only holding out so I could get a cheaper deal, ended up getting the handset free with 600 mins, unlimited texts and 500mb data for £22 per/mo.
The only thing I'm worried about is the branding on the hardware, I'm hoping that they've left the phone's body blank like vodafone and O2... but I'm almost positive that they will have soiled it with Orange logos. I'll probably be able to remove the crapware eventually... hopefully
Suppose it's the price you pay for a cheaper deal...
I was on a Dolphin 40 previously on my HTC Hero, they have matched that and increased for the same price ( it was discounted already down to £30 a month ).
I have 1200 anytime mins, Unlimited texts, 1.25 gb ( 750Mb + 500 Mb ), Wifi, Email, Maps and 50 MMS. Havent checked the rest. Apparently I have been given the max loyalty bonus they can give me. I am happy. Orange is about the best signal where I live.
Mine arrived yesterday (15th July ) and as reported elsewhere in the forums, my SD Card isnt working so they are swapping it today. Its not the memory card but the device.

Interesting tag of yours
"HTC Sensation (Z710e) ROM: 1.35.401.1 EUR (GRI40) | Recovery: Stock | Radio: Stock | Kernel: Stock"
My Orange Sensation came shipped with what looks like a lot older build
Stock Rom: 1.35.61.1
Kernel 2.6.35.10
Wonder if thats why the SDCARD isnt working. Your build seems to be closer to the one that Sprint has shipped to solve software bugs.
Eddie
Tried to upgrade yesterday, but if I want to stay on the same Dolphin35 deal that I'm currently on (although paying £30) they want £199 off of me for the handset! That's not gonna happen!
Can you confirm if they've bastardized the ROM with their Orange branded crapware, and if there is any branding on the device? Cheers.

No, you have the newest version, because it's 1.35. The 61 only tells what carrier you use or what country it is. Unbranded Europe is x.xx.401.1, Vodafone Europe is x.xx.160.1 (or something like that, I don't remember),...

I got my sensation on Thursday and so far I'm pretty happy! It's a lovely handset and only has branding on the back of the battery door so it could be swapped out with a new one if i wanted.
I'm not exactly sure how much the ROM has been changed tbh, though there's a good few orange apps floating about. The phone has been a little sluggish at times but I'm unsure if that's orange's doing or sense.
Battery life has been ok for the amount I've been playing with it, been getting about 12 hours on average so far, but I'm sure that will rise when i play with it less and the battery settles in.

Sounds like they have messed around with the ROM then. Looks like I'll be upgrading via Carphone Whorehouse then in order to get an unbranded handset, unless the phone gets rooted pretty soon and we can install stock/custom ROMs.
Just upgraded mine with mobiles.co.uk on orange. As they operate as carphone warehouse hopefully it will be unlocked. ill post my findings
Any update on the mobiles.co.uk phones?
Usually I just ignore the Orange branding, but my wife just upgraded through Orange and the thing is cluttered to hell with Orange crap. Why can't they at least hide it away in a separate folder? Orange Mail, Orange Maps, Orange Backup, Orange Photos, Orange contact backup, and that's before all the crappy games...
I was on the verge of upgrading but I have to admit I am so hacked off that it's been ruined by Orange I might just hard reset my Hero to speed it up a bit and stick with that...
Luckily i avoided going direct to Orange and went to dial-a-phone,Mines unbranded and unlocked to all networks...No Orange Bloatware!! And only £25 a month which is £10 less than with my old hero and i get more with it!
Hehehe, know what you mean!
Was desperately waiting for S-off just so I can zap all that rubbish! Now Im a happy bunny, easy peasy wth some one click system app removers.
Now just have to wait till the screen issue gets sorted so I can actually use the phone!
My advice would be to wait a couple of months, you will probably get a better pgrade deal, and hopefully a fixed phone.
PS I always prefer to get my phones from the networks themselves. Much easier with warranties etc, and have heard some horror stories with peoples experiences with third party retailers, even the big ones.

okay so got my phone today, but i'm abit annoyed
is it possible to get this phone on contract with vodaphone without all the branding?
i was hoping the touch pro would come with the sleek black theme it was shown with on all the reviews i checked online, instead i have a branded vodaphone touch pro with a red theme, the htc logo has been replaced on the front with vodaphone as well
just wondering if its possible to not have this on the phone? and i should have said something over the phone
thanks

As its a contract phone, its branded and i doubt very much that they will have any unbranded, as they tweek the sofware to remove things that they dont want you to use. However read the other posts that bascially ask the same question you have just asked. You can flash the device with the generic HTC ROM, which will give you the full functionality and the looks that you have seen. However this does invalidate your warranty if all goes wrong, but that is slim and there are many people on this site that can help. Before you ask ..... read the wiki on how to flash a custom rom.
YOu can buy a new battery cover to remove the branding that i believe is on the back, however without taking the phone apart, you can not remove the branding from the front.

thanks for the prompt response, i have read the wiki and have a good enough understanding to go ahead and flash my device, though i can't seem to find the rom you said on the forums as theres so many.
Hey my phone is vodafone as well. ROM flash is a bit extreme unless you are confident, suggest you read how to change themes - I use HTC 3d buttons applied using the TF3d config utility, removes those red icons. You can then experiment with the bigger themes (HTC Black, spiderman etc)although some do seem to slow the phone down and shrink the middle working part of the screen! These theme changes are however easily removed if they don't work and a hard reset would put you back in warranty should anything happen. You will also find that youtube is missing but you will find several alternatives including core player and the original app in the diamond forum. I am a whole week ahead of you and now have a far different phone to the one delivered (including working Tomtom7), unfortunately many of the posts ramble a bit and it takes a lot of reading (however the wiki draws together some of the threads, read this one and the diamond wiki) but I'm afraid the printed logo on the screen will have to stay!!

I have my TP with vodafone... But I don't have the vodafonbe bullsh*t.
Yust bought a 'general' phone.. without any provider logo etc.
also without simlock so I can insert every sim I want. I'm gonna use vodafone 4 a few months so I have my TP with vodafone.. but without all the vodafone crap
I am 4 weeks ahead of you ,
But flashed my ROM with the 1st day of having the phone.
Go on become the Phantom Flasher
Its worth it m8ty
I also flashed my ROM the same day I got my phone
I've updated mine to have black/white background.
There's a thingy available for download - the manila theme that's the orginal that came with the device:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2358935&postcount=225
Which'll let you turn it to something a little more elegant looking. I think that's the one I installed.
Look for a different supplier if you want unbranded

As I have a TyTN II on Vodafone contract (well my 12 months is now up actually), sure it's possible to get an unadulterated, HTC branded Touch Pro on contract with them but you'll likely have to get it through a different supplier than a Vodafone shop. The thing to do is to make it a black and white requirement (when agreeing your contract) that any supplied phone must not be Vodafone branded in any way and then if it turns out to have branding, you can reject it as not being according to your wishes. The more people do this, then eventually maybe the networks will wake up and stop changing the phones around. It's understandable for them to want to lock the phone to their network/sim card but with the exception of networks which use proprietary/non standard radio technology and therefore require special radio coding programmed in, that should be the limit of any customisation in my opinion.
If you contact HTC or go through their website, that'll tell you where you can get their 'native' device and some of these companies will offer them on contract also. It'll likely cost you more than a carrier modified version (in some cases much more) but thats the price you pay for 'the real thing'.
I want to return to stock on my tmobile branded HTC sensation 4G. I have flashed the radio, eng s off, and CSL recovery.
I am going to give them a shot at fixing my reception issues before I destroy the phone and buy something else.
Did you have reception problems before flashing your radio or after? I think you should be fine with having a rom since HTC released their bootloader if its a big deal and your really worried just flash a stock rom on that bad boy and call it a day. Just my 2 cents new to the site so hopefully a vet will chime in here for help
Though I've never returned to stock on my phone, you just need to download one of the TMOUS RUUs in this thread:
[ROM][11 May] Shipped Pyramid ROM Collection
There are two listed for TMOUS (there was only one when last I checked the thread), but it supposedly doesn't matter which one you pick according to one of the posts later on in the thread.
They're big old files, but just run the .EXE and it ought to walk you through every necessary step to proceed properly.
Good luck, and let us know how it goes!
Thank you very much for the great responses.
Yes I had reception problems on all 3 sensation 4g's I've had my hands on. It's terrible. Side by side, on the same tower, it gets far lower reception than my old Motorola Cliq (piece of slow crap.)
It's ridiculously low and drops calls. It's so unreliable at my house that I have to use WiFi calling and take a drop if I get more than 30' from my extremely good wireless router. meh. crap.
To the other gentleman, than you very much. I figured it included the radio, but I was unsure about the bootloader/recovery. I will start there and then figure out if there is anything else I need to fix before I send it in. I don't want any more BS from them. I'm sure they are just going to send it back and say "nothing is wrong".
They have said that it is comparable to reception on their other models. If this is the case, this will be the VERY last HTC phone I ever own, and our company has just gotten to the point that I can invest in things such as this for business. If we only get 2 at a time, every 6 months or so, That is $10,000 in lost business in the next ten years, provided they are only $500 phones.

If I may be so bold as to make a suggestion and ask a few questions....
1. Have you tried reverting to stock and see if you still have the same problems with reception?
2. Are you aware that the Sensation suffers from the grip of death?
3. Have you noticed performance with reception after flashing a new ROM in comparison to stock?
I think I may have some insight to the real problem but need this info first.

Yes, They (3 different phones) had this problem from day 1. Purchased from different places, at different times.

Yes, but this isn't to what I refer. Holding the phone in a weird way to make the radios D/C isn't my problem so much as the design that allows this to happen in the first place is my problem. If I set the phone down, I get more bars than if I hold it normally. If this is the difference between 2-3 and 1-2, I can get dropped calls. My wifi range (max performance on) is 1/10th of my tablet and 1/20th of my laptop.
Even without touching the phone, just setting it on a wood counter top, it has less reception than my Motorola Cliq or Mytouch 4g, even when on the same tower. The cliq's reception does not change if I pick it up.
It's a bad design. If it is what HTC considers acceptable, then their phones aren't acceptable to me. It's cool. I'm not really that pissed about it. I just won't buy another. There are options.

No, I've found no increase in reception with any change I've made. I've flashed 5 different radios other than stock with no changes in this department.
I have heard people have speed changes, but I was not tracking that so I can't really respond to that.

Hope you have some help.
I've already tried a new back. It did nothing. There simply aren't enough towers in my area (all edge towers anyway) to support a phone with such poor reception. My Cliq had no issues with dropped calls in many of the areas I drive through, but this sensation just can't make it down my parents road without dropping.
The reason I ask is that I think that the Radio-Interface-Layer (RIL) files must be screwing with your radio. The RILs are like drivers for your radio. Different radios work with different RILs depending on your location. Long-in-short-version, Since the Sensation is fairly new, we are still exploring what works best and therefore your mileage may vary.
You may want to check this thread
And check out your RIL version. To check to see what RIL you have run getprop "gsm.version.ril-impl" in Terminal Emulator or adb shell and it will print out the RIL version.
T-Mo users should utilize HTC-RIL 2.2.0159HMQ if not running 2.3.4 ROMS
2.3.4 ROMS require HTC-RIL 2.2.0169HMQ. The matching radio versions are included in the thread posted above.
Hope this helps.
If that fails, tonight, TMOUS released an OTA update. See if you can get it through Settings-> About Phone -> HTC Software updates.
The changes for the T-Mo update can be found here
Hope this helps!
EDIT : I am assuming that you have a T-Mobile Sensation 4G and not an unbranded HTC Sensation and that you current location is in fact Myrtle Beach, SC. But then again, I hate assumptions and I really should have asked >.< **having a simpson 'doh' moment here**

I'm sending it to HTC, not tmobile.
I will play with the MILs right now (installing the tmo one)
I'm on stock RUU now, but it did not replace the PVT S-OFF and recovery crashes and requires a battery pull to reboot. It goes to a icon of a phone with a red triangle thingie on it.
EDIT: MIL's match.
EDIT: Texts from 10076200000 is tmobile related. WTF it does is WTF.

Could be trying to push the OTA update. Have you tried applying the OTA update?
iNFORMATION
I have personally reset my phone a couple of times using the tmo ruu and know that it sets your phone back to absolute stock, with no root and only being s-off. What this means is, if you wish to reroot then you are going to have to go back through the rooting process.
As far as the symbol that you are seeing when you try to do an ota update? The reason that you are seeing the phone with a red triangle is because your phone is being recognized as being rooted and once rooted htc will not allow an ota to your phone. You have to trick HTC into thinking that the phone is not rooted in order to get the ota, there is a thread in the forums for this. I do not remember which thread it is, however, I know that it works as I did it for all four of the HTC sensations that I own.
Has anybody got any ideas if and when orange UK will release the 2.3.4 update !
Every other orerator in the uk has released it why are orange so slow.
still waiting here on t-mobile uk...
Funny how they're the same company...
Why are they so slow.... Oh yes....
It's because orange fill their rom versions with trash and software that nobody will ever use, let alone pay for.
Did you know orange signed a deal with kineto, they are the people who have created smartwifi calling, and yet, htc / orange flagship handset the sensation doesn't have this amazing bit of kit on it, that would help orange customers who live in areas where signal is poor.
Instead orange put sim3, monopoly here and now, dice, and don't forget bejeweled.
Orange give us what we want...... Not fill the phone with rubbish!
Orange KG2
Hi Guys,
Can anyone tell me , im on 2.3.3 kg2 offical orange update, when is 2.3.4
offical orange due out, and will we be OTA update, or kies.?
And does anyone know why orange are so slow, every other network provider,
has now released this accept for anyone connected to either orange or T-mobiles network.
Whats going on with Orange?>
i rang them today and they told me there is no date for the release, in fact i don't think they will be releasing it soon, if ever.
I've just downloaded and installed 2.3.4 for my Orange branded handset after running a manual check for updates. It was around a 47Mb download. I'm now showing a software version of 1.45.61.4.
As per other threads on 2.3.4, scrolling in Sense seems to be smoother and I can take screenshots with Power + Home. I've also gained 'Signal Boost' in Apps which seems to let me route calls over Wi-Fi.
yes i have just checked and the update is here
Im on orange and downloading now (update is there when I manually checked for updates)

I followed secion B from the following guide..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1228648
I then had to re-apply S-Off, reflash recovery and reinstall the SU Binaries.
All good and the Signal boost feature is fantastic.. Gerneral Speed seems a bit better too.
Thanks for your answer!

What update file did you use, an Orange specific one or another one?
And two, where do I find this file?
Thanks!
Hi everybody,
I've got a question about sending my phone back to orange. The thing is I have been complaining that my signal has been worse than crap for a month or so, so they are going to send me a replacement handset. The thing is, I am S-Off and rooted. Now I don't think I need it to be S-On again, I'm thinking the people at Orange would'nt be THAT savvy to look, or care about that. However, I am running cyanogen mod, so I want to take that off and put an orange stock one back on. Am I right in thinking that it would be as easy as just flashing one from this page

Any advice would be appreciated, I just don't want to completely bugger it.

Yes it looks like the Orange Uk RUU is there, and will restore you to stock and S-On if you used AlpharevX. If you used XTC Clip that's irreversible. But like you said I doubt they'd notice.
However it might be worth me mentioning, as an Orange sufferer myself, I also have terrible 3G signal despite my housing estate being ground zero for the biggest cell tower you've ever seen. Is it just 3G you are struggling with?
My phone I bought SIM-free and unlocked too. Tried various radios, same results.
It's more to do with Orange climbing into bed with T-Mobile and then proceeding to thoroughly bork their 3G network trying to merge them. I've had the 3G bandwidth of a slightly damp piece of string since February. It comes and goes though. They'll manage a full hour or two of 'H' before it bombs me back to 'G'. I had the old Desire back then, and service went from awesome to pony over the course of January/February so I know it wasn't my phone. Come the end of my contract (as I've been unsuccessful arguing my way out of it) I'm back off to Vodafone.
Just saying you may find you get another handset when there is nothing wrong with your current one. Have you tried popping in a friend's SIM card from another network?
Hiya mate,
Thanks for replying. You answered my question a couple of weeks ago as I remember, about my phone being stuck on gsm? Well I just kept ringing them and told them my signal was the pits and not getting any better, so they are sending me a replacement. I was pretty surprised that they would do this actually. I asked them what would happen if that didn't work, and they said just give them a call back. My sister had really poor reception as well, and she hounded them that much that they cancelled her contract, hell hath no fury and all that ha ha. So I might be going down the same route, if this handset doesn't work. To be fair, I cant see it making any difference.

Excellent mate, that worked like a charm. Back to stock ROM i'll see what happens with this new handset, If that doesn't work, gonna see about trying to get out of contact. During updating a lot of apps in same time Desire S was stuck and in next few seconds screen became black. It has no response. I can't turn it on. I tried to plug to wall charge - nothing, even no green/red LED blinking.
DS was sent to worldwide HTC by supplier for warranty repair. The answer that I got today is : bootloader file is absent, its avoid warranty case, because only one possible explanation for this - not allowed attempt to update firmware.
Have I any chance to bring my DS to life ?
Thanks in advance.
Have you modified the phone software yourself in any way (S-OFF or rooted?)
Tell us more about how you bought it. For example, did it come as part of a call contract package or did you buy it unlocked outright?
- Steve
No, I didn't modify the phone in any way. Phone was purchased in cellphone shop, unlocked and without call contract package.
Supplier propose me to take Motorola Atrix 4G or HTC Sensation XE in addition of USD 70 (50 euro) or USD 150 (110 euro), respectively.

No, I didn't modify the phone in any way. Phone was purchased in cellphone shop, unlocked and without call contract package.

Ah, OK.
It seems that you would be fully justified in pressing for a repair or replacement.
Had you been here in the UK, I would have suggested that you wrote to the supplier politely explaining that unless they filfilled their obligations under a valid warranty claim, you'd take them kicking and screaming through our "small claims court" procedure. This invariably has the desired effect.
Not sure what options you might have in your country, but in any case if you chose to push the warranty claim, I'd suggest that it's usually most effective put stuff clearly (yet firmly) in writing.
"Avoid warranty" answer was received from worldwide HTC not supplier. Supplier agree to replace the phone but DS is not in stock so he offer to me Atrix or upgrade to Sensation.
But I really like my DS and before I'll take something else I want to know is there any chance to bring back to life DS.

OK, gotcha. Could be worse I guess.
I'm not an expert on boot issues but your DS sounds a bit doomed
Anyone else ?
Anyway, hope you resolve it to your satisfaction!
As I've read here on the forums, simultaneously updating apps from market on a Desire S with faulty EMC chip result in bricked phone. This SHOULD be covered by warranty. Newer market versions don't even update apps simultaneously but take them one at a time from a queue.
You might try the solutions ofered in some topics here but as you described the issue, looks like your Desire is bricked already.

Nope, as from now, there is no way to do it ourselves. You need to get the Emmc chip repaired by HTC
