Manually flash cwm - HTC Inspire 4G

If I wanted to manually flash cwm instead of using rom manager, how would I go about it?
I have a version of cwm on my phone that I don't want and want to flash a different version but not with rom manager, I don't want to choose one from that list. I have another one id like to flash I just don't know how.
I was thinking go into cwm and use the "flash update.zip" I think that's how you do it, but I am unable to flash anything from the external card because it wont mount because I have an incompatible version of cwm installed.
Anyway to flash from the internal storage?

Out of curiosity, what version of cwr that's not on rom managers list are you so interested in flashing, and why?

Ok I got the right cwm installed but I STILL can't mount the external sd sonic can't flash anything. What could I possibly do to fix this? Any way to flash zips from the internal storage.

Just in case anyone stumbles across this in the future, I was able to get it worlkng by formatting my sd card. It was the only thing I could do to get CWM to recognize the card.

While your post back is appreciated, I still haven't quite figured out what you were trying to do in the first place. Or why.

I thought the card wouldn't mount because I was using the wrong version of CWM. I tried the version of CWM that was pre loaded with rom manager and it didn't work either. I had another one I wanted to force flash and try it. Turns out the card just needed to be formatted and CWM was able to mount it.

Gotcha. I was just giving you a hard time, anyways.
I thought you were trying to install some prehistoric cwr version 1.0 because it had some secret feature unavailable in the newer models.

yes。wish it nice

I am curious if you're loading 7.1 r1 or not

Fix Vibrant 4G Clockword recovery Mod and use ROM Manager for Backup and ROM Flashing

I am modifying this post removing some steps:
Note that you can always go back to orignal Odin ROM using Vibrant Download Mode in the link below:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978836
You should know what you are doing, otherwise I am not reponsible for any device brick.
1- Use SuperOneClick 1.7 to gain root (USB debugging enabled).
Open SuperOneClick and run Shell Root with your phone plugged in.
Use Rage option, then once done, reboot the phone and verify root using "Root Checker" from the Market.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803682
2. Download "3e_recovery_installer.zip" from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=833423
run the 3e Recovery Installer. When finished, close.
3. Flash ClockWorkMod Recovery via ROM Manager from market by selecting "Vibrant" when asked for phone type. Then reboot into recovery. (You may need to reboot your phone if you get stuck on the ROM Manager "Reboot to Recovery" screen) (Just reboot, then attempt to reboot into recovery again)
At the blue recovery select "reinstall packages". The first time will fail, run it once more, and you should now have the green CWM Recovery menu.
4. Install Kernel Flasher from the Market and backup the kernel.
5. use Rom Manager to flash Data and Dalvik init.d-busybox with data to SD update.zip to fix Data and Dalvik init.d-busybox from below link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=744655
6- When finshed you should be able to backup and restore the ROM using Rom Mananger.

I have created a deodex zip file for orignal vibrant 4G rom and used rom manager to successfully flash it. I will post the rom later today.

I guess I'm the first casualty of this. I did everything to the letter in the post up to step five. Once i flashed 4g_sd-fix_New in rom manager it the phone rebooted and did the exact opposite of what it was supposed to do. It no factory reset my phone and neither the sd card nor the internal storage mount.
Any help would be appreciated here.

Is anyone able to get data back?
I tried using Odin to flash to stock and I'm still unable to get data connection unless I connect to Wifi.
I sure hope you modified the SD Fix.....
That fix was created by Eugene and I to fix mounting for the Vibrant. If flashed to a 4G, it'll break.
I wouldn't recommend this method at all, this looks risky. Just wait for krylon or koush to come out with a proper release of cwm. I have offered to lend my phone to either of them and im sure as soon as either one has the time they will get it going.
I don't like doing things half ass, and while the work is appreciated i wouldn't recommend this guide to the average user as i lost my first 4g to a similar guide.

Are you talking about step 5?
I tried all the steps till 5 and get the data not being able to connect and then after I Odin back to stock and I'm unable to do step 6.
Krylon can you load up the 2 ROM's you have available for us to try if we can get this damn thing to work?

Yes, Step 5 was created by us to allow both Internal and External SD to auto mount to the phone and PC on the VIBRANT.
We had to modify the stock 4G files to allow this due to the 4G only having a external SD.
For now, I'm reporting this thread due to it being just like the last "CWM for Vibrant works on the 4G" thread which caused bricks, which resulted in me having to create the ODIN image for everyone.
Please do not jump the gun. Be patient.

Rom manager on the g2x

Noob help Just wondering if rom managers one click rom install works on the g2x. I'm a noob and don't feel comfortable doing the one click backup
Sent from my LG-P999 using Tapatalk
yes works great, once you download you have to move it to your SD card.
also when its finish downloading i suggest that you do everything from the recover menu instead of letting rom manager do it. make sure to back up your current rom, then wipe data and cache, then install from zip from sd card.
you gotta get the one click nvflash method installed What hte previous poster didn't tell you is that if something goes wrong w/ Rom manager, you're totally hosed.
Get the Nvflash method on there.. then run rom manager all you want.. at least you have a way out if something arises..

Quick question, I did the NVFlash to install the CWM but when I first try to use the ROM Manager it says that I need to install it again? Is this right?

New G2X Owner - Few Questions

Hey Guys,
Brand new owner of the G2x and Android for that matter ( had an iphone before)
Of course I am looking to flash some roms and see how they are. The phone is rooted, and I downloaded rom manager and flashed CWM. But now I am reading and seeing that it is safer to use NVFlash? Do I need to remove CWM or w/e before i can flash NVFlash? Do i even need NVFlash?
Thanks in advance.
Rom manager flashes fake cwm. U don't need to remove it though. But u have to flash it again via nvflash. Otherwise u won't be able to root or flash any custom rom.

Another question is:
Is this possible to do without a SD Card in the phone? If so, where do I copy the flashable zip files too on the phone?

Not on the more recent CWM, you'll need a SD card.

If have the latest CWM (5.2.0.0 I think?) You can flash zips by selecting Flash .zip from SD card > flash from internal SD. You can place your .zips anywhere you'd like.

You actually can use the rom-manager-cwm to flash roms. With the G2X, rom manager has 2 issues that I've encountered. The first is the one mentioned already: that it doesn't actually flash clockworkmod recovery to the recovery partition. The problem here is that if something goes wrong and you can't boot into android, you also won't be able to boot into cwm. As you stated, using nvflash installs cwm to the actual recovery partition so you can boot into it even if you can't boot into android.
The second problem I've had with rom manager on this phone is creating and restoring backups. The backups created with rom manager won't restore properly. It's been a while since I've used it though so maybe that's been fixed.
Either way use nvflash. It's the most reliable method for this phone and the only way to actually flash cwm to the recovery partition.
You have to use nv flash or if you run into any problems you won't have a recovery. Nv flash is both simple and difficult. If you have any questions just email me at [email protected], I will be happy to help you in any way I can. I'm a full time writer at ACS, so you can find me there also.

[Q] cant mount system, clockworkmod G2X

Hi all,
when i boot my g2x into recovery (clockworkmod) and try to backup, it says it cant mount the system. first it used to say cant mount sd card but the solution was just taking out the sd card and putting it back in. unfortunately i cant do this with the system
anybody have any solutions
That happened to me too... download the update.zip from rom manager and boot that or flash the new recovery image
How do I get the update.zip though? And when I go on rom manager and click on flash clockworkmod, it flashes the latest version 5.0.2.0 but it only stays in that version if I click on restart into recovery. If I exit and turn my phone off then boot into recovery, I still have version 3.0.2.7 and the same can't mount system problem occurs

I just fixed this problem today.
The version of CWM that you have flashed as recovery doesn't have the capability of mounting an ext4 file system. Most likely your file system was converted to ext4 somewhere along the way. You need to flash CWM again and it can't be through rom manager since Rom manager only gives you what is considered a "fake flash", which is why you see 2 different versions when you boot into your recovery.
Use the search feature to find information about how to install CWM 5.0.2.0.
There is a one click installation script somewhere in the development section for the G2x with very good instructions on how to permanently flash a newer version of CWM that can handle ext3 and ext4.
Doing this completely fixed this issue for me.
Hopefully it will do the same for you.

NEVER, EVER FLASH RECOVERY WITH ROM MANAGER!
rom manager only does a FAKE FLASH on your phone, if you want a real recovery, always flash with NVFlash

Where is my sd! Rooted! HELP!!!

title really says it all. from recovery or rom manager the sd is not found. im rooted and unlocked. any ideas?
i really want to get a nice new rom rocking on my sd. i did see some other people having these issues in my searches. i have changed versions of cwm and still nothing. also i currently have ics.
thanks in advance fellas!
really? 102 and views and nobody has any ideas?
Do you mean your micro sd in the card slot?
If yes, then that's the default place for your 'sd menu' in recovery, and in OS it's found in mnt/external 1.

Make sure you have a recovery that recognizes the external sd card. If you let Rom Manager "update" your recovery to 4.0.0.4 it will only see the internal "sdcard" so you will either have to flash solarnz' Tiamat recovery or one of the Rogue recoveries...your choice.
