title really says it all. from recovery or rom manager the sd is not found. im rooted and unlocked. any ideas?
i really want to get a nice new rom rocking on my sd. i did see some other people having these issues in my searches. i have changed versions of cwm and still nothing. also i currently have ics.
thanks in advance fellas!
really? 102 and views and nobody has any ideas?
Do you mean your micro sd in the card slot?
If yes, then that's the default place for your 'sd menu' in recovery, and in OS it's found in mnt/external 1.

Make sure you have a recovery that recognizes the external sd card. If you let Rom Manager "update" your recovery to 4.0.0.4 it will only see the internal "sdcard" so you will either have to flash solarnz' Tiamat recovery or one of the Rogue recoveries...your choice.

Look in the Development Section for Tiamat Clockwork Mod Recovery R4c v3.2.0.0. That's what I use.
Here's a link to my Guide...it has the recovery link and instructions on how to flash and make it stick... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1249798
I prefer rogue recovery over the Tiamat. It looks better and has a few more options.
Its also been updated recently.

ALL FILES ARE IN THE DEVELOPMENT SECTION.
First u need super one click root, than you need one click recovery...pick cwm 3.0.2.7 than go to development and download cm7, the gapps are in the same thread. Put it on your sd card and than boot into recovery with power+down vol and pick install from sd card and pick the rom. Once its done flash the gapps and than reboot. Your all done

Are you doing a wipe first? marking the 2-3 options? I say do it again, make sure a full wipe. Not that I have ever done this b4, but I did stay at a holiday inn express last night.. Edit: seriously, take my advice w/ a grain of salt. i've done a lot of reading and people are saying there are 3 options that can be ticked during a wipe.. to make sure there is a clean install.. I haven't used cwm yet, just read about it.. alot.
If I wanted to manually flash cwm instead of using rom manager, how would I go about it?
I have a version of cwm on my phone that I don't want and want to flash a different version but not with rom manager, I don't want to choose one from that list. I have another one id like to flash I just don't know how.
I was thinking go into cwm and use the "flash update.zip" I think that's how you do it, but I am unable to flash anything from the external card because it wont mount because I have an incompatible version of cwm installed.
Anyway to flash from the internal storage?

Out of curiosity, what version of cwr that's not on rom managers list are you so interested in flashing, and why?

Ok I got the right cwm installed but I STILL can't mount the external sd sonic can't flash anything. What could I possibly do to fix this? Any way to flash zips from the internal storage.

Just in case anyone stumbles across this in the future, I was able to get it worlkng by formatting my sd card. It was the only thing I could do to get CWM to recognize the card.

I thought the card wouldn't mount because I was using the wrong version of CWM. I tried the version of CWM that was pre loaded with rom manager and it didn't work either. I had another one I wanted to force flash and try it. Turns out the card just needed to be formatted and CWM was able to mount it.

Hey Guys,
Brand new owner of the G2x and Android for that matter ( had an iphone before)
Of course I am looking to flash some roms and see how they are. The phone is rooted, and I downloaded rom manager and flashed CWM. But now I am reading and seeing that it is safer to use NVFlash? Do I need to remove CWM or w/e before i can flash NVFlash? Do i even need NVFlash?
Thanks in advance.
Rom manager flashes fake cwm. U don't need to remove it though. But u have to flash it again via nvflash. Otherwise u won't be able to root or flash any custom rom.

Another question is:
Is this possible to do without a SD Card in the phone? If so, where do I copy the flashable zip files too on the phone?

Not on the more recent CWM, you'll need a SD card.

If have the latest CWM (5.2.0.0 I think?) You can flash zips by selecting Flash .zip from SD card > flash from internal SD. You can place your .zips anywhere you'd like.

You actually can use the rom-manager-cwm to flash roms. With the G2X, rom manager has 2 issues that I've encountered. The first is the one mentioned already: that it doesn't actually flash clockworkmod recovery to the recovery partition. The problem here is that if something goes wrong and you can't boot into android, you also won't be able to boot into cwm. As you stated, using nvflash installs cwm to the actual recovery partition so you can boot into it even if you can't boot into android.
The second problem I've had with rom manager on this phone is creating and restoring backups. The backups created with rom manager won't restore properly. It's been a while since I've used it though so maybe that's been fixed.
Either way use nvflash. It's the most reliable method for this phone and the only way to actually flash cwm to the recovery partition.
You have to use nv flash or if you run into any problems you won't have a recovery. Nv flash is both simple and difficult. If you have any questions just email me at [email protected], I will be happy to help you in any way I can. I'm a full time writer at ACS, so you can find me there also.

Just like the title says, whats the best Recovery for GS3? Is it CWM Touch 5.8.4.9, CWM 6.0.1.0 or TWRP 2.2.0?
The most current version for clockwork is 6.0.1.2--there's a non-touch and touch version.
Personally, I prefer the Clockwork touch recovery.

Ok so CWM Touch 6.0.1.2 is your choice, have you tried TWRP 2.2.2.0? I like TWRP but want to know if its stable enough just like CWM Touch 6?
cwm 6.0.1 works on everything for this device.

Maybe I haven't searched around enough.. But I'm still kinda confused on why I can't see my external sd card
I reformatted mine to fat32..So for now I'm moving files between internal and external to flash
Was kinda hoping a different recovery would fix that =/
CWM 6.0.1.0 regular version (not the touch version) works perfectly for me (& I've done more than one full restore with it) so I have no reason to even try anything else at this point.

I have tried TWRP and I kept having difficulty flashing from the external sd card so I tried CWM touch and haven't had any problems. A lot of people have said TWRP is fully functional though, so I'm not sure what my issue was.
cwm 6.0.1-whatever version is latest. Hasnt given me any issues so far!
Running latest twrp here and loving it. Best recovery imo

Can someone explain really quick on how to flash it if its on the SD card?

Since the S3 has an internal and external storage.. What would be the correct command?
Or can i just flash a new one from CWM?
Much thanks.
Just download the ez recovery app from the market and use that. It comes with a couple built in or you can browse to a custom one of your choice that you have saved to an sdcard. FYI on this phone /mnt/sdcard/ is internal memory /mnt/extsdcard/ is your removable card.

I downloaded the Touch CWM. I wanted to try it. I already have EZ recovery.
What is the best recovery to use?
EDIT: Darn 5 minute wait!!
I'd recommend TWRP if you want to use a touch based recovery. It also has md5 checking to make sure your download is correct before flashing.

I like the standard CWM recovery, not the touch. It has options that the CWM touch doesn't. (this is just based on the EZ recovery versions)
Seems like there is a newer version of CWM touch I found here which you should actually still be able to flash via EZ-Recovery. I haven't tried it tho.
Cwm touch version 6.0.1.2 (cm10 and other jb rom's compatible) is available through the rom manager app in 2 forms: a simple market link for $2, or a link to plug through their website and download for free. It's fantastic, I see no reason to use anything else. But noobs beware, touch recovery is all about speed, so be sure you know what your pushing! That's my 2 cents..

Yeah like others have said the EZ recoveryis the way to go. Watch out what you flash though cause it might send you to odin if not haha. I just had to figure out somewhat of a workaround an hour ago cause somehow i lost the recovery and had to flash it through odin then restore a backup.
Volume down, home, and power. Boots to Odin.
Volume up, home, and power. Boots to recovery.
I think I got that correct.

You are correct. The way I remember it, "down" and "Odin" both contain the letter "d." Makes remembering that combo simple.
