[Q] cant mount system, clockworkmod G2X - T-Mobile LG G2x

Hi all,
when i boot my g2x into recovery (clockworkmod) and try to backup, it says it cant mount the system. first it used to say cant mount sd card but the solution was just taking out the sd card and putting it back in. unfortunately i cant do this with the system
anybody have any solutions

That happened to me too... download the update.zip from rom manager and boot that or flash the new recovery image

How do I get the update.zip though? And when I go on rom manager and click on flash clockworkmod, it flashes the latest version 5.0.2.0 but it only stays in that version if I click on restart into recovery. If I exit and turn my phone off then boot into recovery, I still have version 3.0.2.7 and the same can't mount system problem occurs

I just fixed this problem today.
The version of CWM that you have flashed as recovery doesn't have the capability of mounting an ext4 file system. Most likely your file system was converted to ext4 somewhere along the way. You need to flash CWM again and it can't be through rom manager since Rom manager only gives you what is considered a "fake flash", which is why you see 2 different versions when you boot into your recovery.
Use the search feature to find information about how to install CWM 5.0.2.0.
There is a one click installation script somewhere in the development section for the G2x with very good instructions on how to permanently flash a newer version of CWM that can handle ext3 and ext4.
Doing this completely fixed this issue for me.
Hopefully it will do the same for you.

NEVER, EVER FLASH RECOVERY WITH ROM MANAGER!
rom manager only does a FAKE FLASH on your phone, if you want a real recovery, always flash with NVFlash

Double cwm problem

Is there a way to fully wipe cwm from the phone if it was flashed with NV flasher? I flashed the internal support one when I started flashing roms and now I notice that trying to flash external support roms has put me in a pickle. I've asked before whether I needed to switch support or something and was told the newest rom manager supports both... this is wrong. Upon installing eaglesblood 2.3.5 and installing rom manager...no cwm detected, so I flash it. Now when I reboot doing power and down I boot into an old internal support cwm that only has old backups and access to the internal SD. If I reboot from rom manager it will boot into the new cwm. How do I erase the old NV flash version. It wont hold any new backups, so if I crash it will leave me with old cwm. Plus its a pain when I don't have access to downloads I do via rom manager.....
Summary - old version of cwm bootable through power and down (nvflash version) . New version flashed by rom manager only shows up booting through rom manager. Want to erase NV flash version so there's only one. Frustrated.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA App
No need to erase, just nvflash over current will replace old.....if you flash newest 5.0.1.6 i belive, it lets you choose zip from sd card or internal memory....BUT have the latest nvflash one, its a must if you are gonna flash roms.
http://db.tt/Rl6YH0B
I see, what about flashing through rom manager? Is there a way to rid the rom manager install before I do the NV flash... should I not flash through rom manager?

Just have both, make sure both are latest, but the nvflash one is most important. That one will/can save your life (phone)
For all intents and purposes, you cannot actually flash CWM from ROM manager with this phone. All it can do is reboot into CWM from the app. If you ever need to access CWM from a power-off state (bad flash, bootloop, etc.) you will only be able to enter the NVFlash version. Strongly recommend always having the NVFlashed version of CWM. Maybe even give up using ROM Manager altogether.
If you can't do without ROM Manager, keep using it. But it would be a good idea to flash CWM 5.x.x.x through NVFlash so that you have an emergency recovery that can read both internal and external memory.
Thanks Frisco and r4. Totally understand now. Relief. Now to Eb 1.9!

this question should definitely go in the General section or in the Clockwork Recovery thread, just so you know
if you are in stock recovery, you can get into Clockwork by choosing 'reinstall packages', provided that you have followed the instructions in the CWM thread and: 1) replaced the recovery in system/bin with the modified recovery binary from the thread, and 2) placed the update.zip from the thread on the root of your sdcard.
or u can follow sduvick mod on krylon thread
nice! I didn't know he made a script for flashing CWM.
Can someone tell me why every time I try to flash a new rom on my daughters sk4g in recovery it goes straight to the screen with reinstall packages so I pick it and it errors out and can't go further???

You probably need to visit the Recovery CWM thread and either manually replace the recovery in system/bin with the modified one and put the update.zip(clockworkmod) on the root of you sdcard... Or use sduvick's script in the thread to do those 2 things for you. Then when you reinstall packages it will take you to Clockwork Recovery.
I cant get passed the WipeData/factoryreset.
replaced recovery in System/Bin
Update.zip in root of SD.
this is what i get
--Wiping data...
Formatting /data...
Formatting /cache...
Formatting /sd-ext...
E:format_volume: make_extf4fs failed on /dev/block/mmcblk0p2
Formatting /sdcard/.android_secure...
then thats where it freezes then i gotta restore using ODIN.
any help would be greatly appreciated

hmm, that's weird. and you are getting into orange CWM by doing 'reinstall packages' in the blue stock recovery? if so, I'm not sure why that would be happening...

Try to odin back to kd1 or kg2, Then use the recovery from krylons thread. This part is important, do not use rom manager to update your recovery, the version on rm is either corrupt or unstable. This happened to me a couple of time when I first tried it too. The problem was rom managers recovery.
Sent from my SGH-T839 using xda premium
Should I completely delete CWM on my SD card then, and then repeat the process on krylons thread?
Sent from my SGH-T839 using XDA Premium App
Yes, do exactly that, delete all cwm files you have on your computer and sdcard, and start all over, using krylons thread.
Ok Just need to confirm this
When I rebooot to recovery. I get the original. screen with two errors. However when I click reinstall packages. It shoots me to CWM. IT does that every time.
Am I safe to Flash? Or did I mess up some where

I am having the same problem with clockworks recovery mod but if I go to recovery from rom maniger app I got from the market it gose right into the clockworks recvery if I use any other app for rcovery it go into stock recovery and thin I have to reinstall pacage and thin it works but that's what I know about it and I fallowed the thread to the letter
if you installed rom manager, then you didnt follow the thread. go to settings/applications/manage applications and under 3rd party, select rom manager. when that comes up, select clear data and uninstall. do NOT reinstall rom manager. next, go to the root of your sd card and look for a folder named clockworkmod. if you find it, delete it. next, go back to the cwm thread and in the first post, look for a link to a file called update.zip. download it and place it on the root of your sd card. to get into cwm, boot into stock recovery and select reinstall packages. you should then boot into cwm. there is no other way to boot into clockworkmod recovery unless you flash a rom that comes with it. the version of clockworkmod that flashes through rom manager does not work right. also, once you have booted into cwm recovery after installing it the proper way, scroll down through your recovery menu and select advanced. then select fix permissions. it will say "fixing permissions...." and will sit for a minute or two. let it sit till it says "done!" then hit the back button and select reboot system now. running fix permissions should stop your random reboots. it did for me. it wont solve the screen lag, but you shouldnt have any more random reboots.
ok i did that. now the cwm do you have to reinstall it evry time you go to recovery or will it stay and the rom manager i got it after i flashed cwm becous it sead it had cwm built in
you have to reinstall packages every time. rom manager isnt gonna do crap for you on this phone. you can flash roms through clockworkmod just fine as long as you do it right, but if you try to start flashing a rom through rom manager, its gonna brick your phone. you can recover from a brick in several ways, but its a pain in the chops.

Install CWM but always go back to default recovery

Hi
I installed CWM 5 on my Nexus S. I can reboot one time and go back to CWM but after a second reboot, the recovery is back to default and I have to reflash it
Does any of you already experienced this problem ?
happens to me. i go to rom manager and re flash cwm then reboot to recovery.
Are you both using stock? The stock rom has a script that restores the default recovery when you reboot.
Delete / rename /etc/install-recovery.sh
This script writes the stock recovery on boot.

I've experienced this as well, and plan to re-name install-recovery.sh.
For those that are continually re-flashing the recovery image, do you think there is a possibility of writing to that area too many times?
I've heard of NAND flash dying in flash drives after very data intensive operations, and I've also heard of ROM storage areas having a limited number of writes.
Just wanted to test the waters.

Always flash through Fastboot, Better than flashing from Rom manager.
I renamed /etc/install-recovery.sh and it works
Thanks
Happens to me until I started flashing twice everytime I flash a Rom ... =] try it

I am also very new to this. So what about the current Modaco CWM Recovery 4.0.0.9? It will still be there but it won't be used? Do we also access nandroid backups from ROM manager? (So in other words, will we only do everything with ROM manager from now on?)

ROM Manager is just a way to access CWM Recovery. If you flash the official CWM Recovery, it will overwrite Modaco's version.

I know rite? First, I figured out how to jungle with noc on LoL, and now this? Wins all around.
Installed new recovery through rom manager, to 5.0.2.7 and rebooted into recovery.
All seems well.
BUTTTTTTTT when i tried to do a backup of my current virtuous rom i get an error: "can't mount target path"
And then when testing the restore i get an error: "can't mount path /sdcard"
And when testing the wipe & format options, instead of the traditional Yes or No.... I now have like 10 No options and 1 Yes option.
Something seems bogus, ive reinstalled the recovery twice but same effect.
Anyone??
Whats happened to my recovery guys???
