Alright xda, longtime lurker, crackflasher here.
Bought my G2x from WIND, gave the stock rom a tryout period which lasted a cool 2 days, and have been flashing since. Problem is my phone has been experiencing random shutdowns and reboots, screen bleeding and the standard nonsense, even before flashing; no matter what rom it is running even with my nandroid backup. It's kind of breaking my balls, and I've broken down and considered the possibility that my beloved phone is a lemon.
Now I'd like to see if I can get a replacement headset. Problem is that if I flash back to the stock bootloader it will look like a T-mobile phone and WIND will see that I've been buggering their TOS. Maybe I could send it straight to LG?
My main question is: is there anyway I can flash my nandroid backup along with the stock bootloader? Or am I just SOL?
Love this phone to death, and I accept the terms and responsibility of screwing with and trying new things. I should have returned the phone when I was having these issues on the stock rom... it was just so shiny and now I'm afraid I might pay a shiny replacement price as well.
Looking for a little empathy and answers if you can provide some.
Many thanks from maple syrup land,
- Zach
if you go to lg website and get thier mobile support tool. might have winds stock rom you can flash that should flash it all.
No linux support eh? Looks like I'm finding a buddy with windows...
Thanks for the advice!
Update:
Flashed new CWM via NVflash, phone only boots up into safe mode now, won't go to the CWM menu. I have a feeling I'm super boned, for one week, that was a fun 500 bucks, time to start saving Could LG's tool fix this?

It could possibly, it will do a factory flash, but only if the software recognizes the device.

Found out what the problem was, I was on an older clockworkmod without ext4 support flashing ext4 roms.... whooops...
Flashed CWM 4 and had no issues with nandroid backup for a full charge cycle, thankfully.
Flashed EB and Trinity Kernel, undervolting like a beast with setcpu; no issues and some badass battery life. Went all the way to 0 and im charging to 100 to to reset the battery stats.
Hopefully after that it will be as smooth sailing as flashing goes
Screen bleeding be damned.
Thank you for your help!!!
I returned mine on 4th day cause to many random shutdown . I work at mobilicity and a customer said he bought g2x from T-Mobile and put cm7 no random reboots for him.
Got a random shutdown today, seems to happen when the phone is not in use, if im on it constantly, no problems. In my locker at work it just shuts off? wtf? Could be UV, I'll take it off for now.... One day left on warranty... ****.

Hi guys,
I need the original WIND Froyo ROM for my G2X.
Need to return it to store and have Clockwork and Cyanogenmod on it.
Can someone please upload the original rom or Nandroid for WIND STOCK ROM?
Three exclamation points in the title for urgency.
try the lg mobile support tool might beable to reinstall the stock rom from there
Hmmm I didn't think of that.
However, I think it might be slim chance that it would work since I rooted it and installed custom recovery (clockwork) on it. I *could* recover the recovery to t-mobile's recovery referenced by TGA_Gunnman but I'm not sure that its equivalent to Wind's...
I'll definitely try LG's recovery tool when I get home, but meanwhile a more definite solution (e.g. Nandoid backup of Wind stock) would be welcome
even if you have a nandroid backup that will not put the stock recovery back on there but the lg update tool should
backup the ROM what you have, and then wipe the system by factory reset and formatting /system.
Connect it computer, and boot up recovery and see if it will let you mount USB.
If so, go the the LG updater site for Canada and if it recognizes your device, see if it will offer to upgrade you to v11H (since you have no ROM installed, it may do so.
If you are REAL lucky, that will load and unroot and possibly reinstall stock recovery.
Worse case if it does not.
R.restore your nandroid, try installing stock recovery with the oneclick tool, unroot with that onclick, and factory reset. Even is the recovery survives or is slightly different (doubt it - would think N. America would be the same) - they might not notice it.
Good luck - but why are you leaving us ...?
Thanks! I'll try that now.
My problem is the battery life : (
Wind in Vancouver have poor signal and that combined with 3G and Android's bad battery performance results in unreasonable battery life which I'm not too satisfied with : ( ...
I've tried *everything* to improve the battery life (cyanogenmod, cpu downclocking, ultimate juice booster, wcdma only, etc etc) but I can't get it over 8 hours even with moderate use...
might try a bigger battery i would say for moderate use thats good battery life got to remember that this is a dual core phone if you use it it will suck the juice.
Have you had any success with LGMobile Support Tool? Mine hangs at "Checking for whether the LG PC-Sync program is running..." and then "Checking the connection with the cell phone..." then stops at 30%, show "Problem with communication between cell phone and PC".
I have all the required USB drivers installed.
*Trying for the last time now... didnt work

You are my inspiration
Since no Vancouver Wind users seems to reside at XDA, I decided to take a darker route...
Wiped all drives (data, system, sdcard) and bricked the phone and restored Flash Stock Recovery (T-mobile's, which looks identical to Wind's). Now the phone hangs at LG logo and going into boot shows stock recovery. Since Wind's warranty policy is (from what I hear) over the counter exchange as long as the damage isn't caused by the user (physical, water damage), I can exchange for a new one and return it.
Better yet, I'll call Wind on Saturday (since tomorrow's a national holiday) and ask if they'll refund my "manufacturer error phone". Hopefully they'll be nice enough to refund it for me without the hassle of going all the way down to the warranty center.
....There's no Wind employee reading this?.... If so, shhhhh XD Cut me some slack please.

If you have tried plugging it in and opening the LG Tool, I would try again and see without any ROM on it, if it would try to download the ROM for it. First check to be sure your computer sees it - id not, probably WOT,
Really surprised that you could not straighten out your battery drain. Usually just setting some profiles in SETCPU and turning sync off (I only do it manually - not auto) clears up most of the problem. Also, freezing bloatware with Titanium helps also.
You may have had one of the rare bad ones - you might try exchanging it with the understanding that if it will not give decent battery life - it is also coming back.
PS - it would be bad enough that Vancouver blew the SC again - but to get caught trying to return messed with phone - real bummer!
LOL - sorry - had to do that. Feel/felt your pain - when SJ did the same thing - again.
Do you still need this? I just got an Optimus from Wind.
Haha, thanks but I already returned the phone. However, it would be nice to upload the stock rom for other people who might need it.
I can do that. Do you know how to make a backup that doesn't include user data? I did a test restore and it included things like my gmail account.
Probably not the best thing to upload online :V
Im not sure... only method I can think of is doing a factory reset and making an image Not too convinient
Alright I figured it out. I cleared all caches, reset factory default, then took a backup. It seems to be clean.
I'll upload it and post a new thead (so it is searchable) probably tomorrow.

I should start off by stating that I never had any of the issues that plagued others. I updated using the Lg app. Now that its been a week of no root I miss it. I should of used a custom rom. Lessened learned. I have tried NVflash to no avail. I cannot get the phone to boot into recovery. Please Please Please someone root this bad boy from stock. I hate the bloatware and adds. Thanks in advance.

Are you following NVFlash steps, don't understand how it won't take. More often than not, as in never, has NVlash not worked. It always seems to be used error.

I pulled the battery, plugged in the usb (with debugging on) held the down volume and held the power button. The lg logo comes up for a few seconds and then the screen goes black the buttons light up and that last for a few seconds then the LG logo comes up again. This all happens unless i let go of the buttons then it just turns off. So yeah I could be user error. Thanks in advance.
After the harrowing experience I've had with re-flashing my LG Quantum, I decided to use Xboarders rom and use NVFlash. It works, but you have to follow the instructions explicitly. After flashing that rooted rom, this phone is ludicrous....but it's kinda like winning the lotto. The phone runs so well, it's just done...no more tweaks to do...just run what I want and have fun...I like tooling around and in retrospect this buggy phone taught me more about smartphones than I would have ever learned if this phone wasn't such a calamity from the start.
Thats great that your phone is awesome now. I never had any real issues. Not any more than I had with my many blackberrys or vibrant. (Ugh!) I really should of flashed with a custom rom. My phone was rooted and cleaned up while in froyo. Now that I am tasting Gingerbread I have to admit its not so yummy. Now if it were rooted and I could get rid of the bloat it would be great. I notice battery life is horrid. (not that smart phones have good batteries to begin with) I attribute this to the programs that run in the background (Telnav, Car home, ect.) I have tried NVflash and do nothing but rest the phone having to install everything again. I just would think as great as the modders that root the devices before they even come out are. They would have this thing rooted in no time. Wishful thinking i guess.
I almost did not notice it and was going to flash CMW, and restore a nandroid - lol.
I am going to mess with it a bit and then flash recovery.and do a nandroid of it.
As I understand it, I can then flash a rooted nandroid over it and I will have root, as one-click root would not work (yet).
UPDATE: Had a bad moment with it - could not get into nvflash mode by holding vol up/down. it took the 4th USB port on second computer to get it recognized. Flashed CMW, flashed the rooted 2.3.3 OTA - have got root.
Now only need morfic and/or faux to release a kernel for it. However, probably will be back on EB and CM7 soon in any case.

TMo of course.
LG had earlier only offered a refurb only if after an inspection from GOD, they decided to authorize it.
If you got a replacement phone without a battery and rear cover then its going to be a refurb like the one I got from Tmobile. When you hook up your phone to the LG Mobile Update program your phone will be a DWP not DW. Seems they are recycling phones sent back to them. I was offered a third phone, but I refused.

The model number in the battery case says DW, so other then going to the LG Update (which bricked my previous pone) how else can it be determined?
Mine also said DW on the phone until I connected it to the LG Mobile Update. That's where I found out it was actually refurbished DWP. I don't know any other way to verify it is a refurb other than that method. Also, when I called Tmobile yesterday regarding my current issues, they acknowledged to me that they send out refurbs replacements only. The tech support employee I spoke with said "most of them are found to have nothing wrong with them when we check the phones people send us". LOL! I told her you are just playing musical chairs with the phones sent to you.
keeping my current problems suddenly seems a whole lot better...

I hooked it up and it shows DW after I connect. Possibly they sent a new one with the update, as updating with LG tool had caused the replacement?
anyone counting on the lgupdate tool to give reliable information is misled. i got mine on day one. phone says dw. lgtool says dwp. i'm not sure who started all this dw/dwp stuff, but i really don't think it means a thing. dwp might just simply be second batch. who confirmed these to be refurbs,or newer/better units?
And for the record, connecting your phone to the LG tool just to have it read the model number will result in a 0% probability of bricking your phone. Unless you hit it with a brick while it's reading.
So there's nothing to be afraid of, and takes only like 15 seconds to find out, which is less than the time it takes to post here.
And furthermore...refurb or NOT, my replacement model (which LG tool reads as DWP, but has DW printed under batter cover and under battery) is MUCH better than my first G2x. It has almost no screenbleed, no screen separation, far less random reboots, better battery life, and gps lock is within 5 seconds now. So if it is, indeed, a refurbished model, they must have refurbed it pretty darn well. If this matters, my original phone SN started with 104, and this replacement starts with 106...seems most likely manufactured more recently than the earlier phone.

SuperOneClick Fail!
I just received mine a couple hours ago. I hopped on the free G2X offer of last week. SuperOneClick fails to root. I was mortified I'd bricked this new phone; but, after killing SuperOneClick (stuck on Step 6 as apparently happens to all), the device seems fine. Charging the battery overnight and then I may try your method of NVflash. Coming from OG Droid.
I received a replacement from T-Mobile last week, it came up as DW under LG Updater tool. T-Mobile doesn't always send out refurbs.

Which rooted ROM? xboarder's? I just read that entire 35 page thread and some seem to be getting reboots reintroduced. Since mine is currently having no problems whatsoever. I may try to NVflash and then try the brute force approach delineated here:

But, I need to read up on it more.
For now, I just want to Nandroid this installation so I can always go back to it. I think the NVflash will give me that option, right?

I loaded a rooted 2.3.3 stock OTA from a thread in the development section. Since it is stock, you can decide what you keep and whet you freeze or delete. After flashing over the 2.3.3 on the device - root was back.

Call TMo and tell them others are getting them with 2.3.3 and July baseband. and you want the same. Especially if you bricked you last one with the LG Updater, you should not have to go down that path again if you can simply get a replacement with it on already.
In any case - insist on a replacement with the latest ROM and baseband on it. I have noted a very significant GPS connection time improvement even with CM7 ROM's (they had been like watching grass grow when waiting on the GPS).
I got my replacement yesterday after bricking it trying to update....its my third phone and it came with 2.3.3. This phone feels perfect and I have yet to have and reboots or freezes. I could care less if its a refurb since it looks brand new. No need to root since nv flash works fine....just restored a nandroid I had from my previous phone. Cm7 rocks and cwm is a life saver

I managed to update it, it almost bricked but after trying various methods people offered on here plus digging out an XP machine I haven't touched in two years, got it working again!
Well after reading the latest GTG V2.2.2 thread changes today I decided to give it a go as I have really been having a ton of problems with my phone since new. Mostly battery issues but also weird stuff since loading Infused 2.1.0. I had loaded 2.1.0 twice after going back to completely stock but the weirdness persisted. So I backed up all my stuff tonight and then fired up Odin and loaded all the necessary stock files from GTG's Ultimate Unbrick which i have done many times. It started right up and then it stalled trying to establish a connection and this has never happened before. I waited a while to see if it would just go anyway but after 30 min. it was still sitting there and had not done anything in regards to loading up any new data to the phone. So I closed Odin and hit the power button on the phone and it came back up with an icon for phone to computer connection so i tried Odin again and once again it started up and tried to load files to the phone but again stalled and sat there. So i waited again for a while and then stopped everything and pulled the battery hoping that the phone could be brought back into download mode but unfortunately it is completely dead now. No lights no power up nothing??? So I guess I got my answer to my constant problems and strangeness it was the phone itself that wasn't any good. So now i have to go to the store tomorrow and negotiate a replacement phone I sure hope the fact that I spend a ton of money there with my clients corporate phone account will get me some good will and they will just swap it out for a new one. We will see as i really liked this phone it just needs some fixing.
I am a bit bewildered that AT&T/Samsung would release a phone with so many bugs in it. The completely stock phone was buggier than all hell and was only marginally better once I updated to a custom rom. The bluetooth has never been right from day one stock or custom it would constantly disconnect my headset and the GPS was the crappiest phone GPS I have ever had and I have had a bunch of them in the last few years. Here's hoping that the GB update fixes and resolves all of the bugs in this very nice phone.

Yeah you have a crap phone. But since you modified the software (god forbid on something you OWN!!!!) Samsung or AT&T(/Rogers) won't touch it. They probably have something to scan for modified software at the door that will shoot you in the foot if you try to walk in.
I've used unbrick at least 5 times because the 2.0 Infused ROM kept messing up my phone. Worked perfectly every time.

Actually, from my understanding, they don't really question you if you bring in a phone to be replaced. If nothing else, do like what everyone did when the Galaxy S line came out and tell them that it crashed during an OTA update or when you connected it to Kies. Or tell them that you were having issues with it freezing up a lot recently and when it frozen the last time, you pulled the battery and it wouldn't come back on.
There is no reason for them to everyone know that you had custom software on the phone.
Good luck.

Have to agree with Entropy would say u just got a dud.
Had no issues getting my phone replaced after installing custom rom on it. Went the extra step and soft bricked it and made sure it wouldnt boot past samsung screen before taking it to store. (My micro USB was borked) Had to wait on replacement phone but they sent me home with my phone and unbricked it and used it till new one arrived and bricked old sent it in and never heard anything about it afterwards.
I've used this method many times and never had an issue. (May not work if you get zero lights, etc, but worth a shot)
Just make sure you're not on Windows XP

Would have sent it to you no problem except that i need to return it to AT&T to get a replacement phone. Sorry I couldn't help.
I went to the AT&T company store that I do all of my bsiness with both personal and corporate. I showed my AT&T girl the phone and that it was dead and would not power up. She tried another battery as I also had done and still nothing. So she tells me becase the phone is over 30 days old i have to go to the device support center to get a new one or call in and they will ship me another phone. Well I couldn't wait for them to ship one as i need my phone for work so I had to drive 35 mi. to the device support center to get another phone. Just strikes me as stupid that they cannot just give me a new phone right then and there. When I got mine I was short of my upgrade period but they gave me a conditional upgrade or something and the phone cost $400.00 so I was pretty pissed off that they were just going to give me a refurbed phone considering what i paid for the damn thing. Actually I didn't pay for it myself one of my clients picked up the tab but I still felt like they really stuck it to me not giving me a new phone. I spend thousands of dollars at their store every year with all of my client purchases you would think they would cut me some slack and give me a new phone???
Anyway I got a "new" replacement phone and it seems to be working fine. The GPS worked far better than my original Infuse right out of the box with the Froyo ROM and UCKD5 modem. I also did a speed test with three bars and got 2735 Kbps Down and 319 Kbps up and it said I was on EDGE?
So I just rooted it and i am going to load up the Infused 2.2.0 and manually install the newer modem and the camera fixes. I am going to hold off restoring most of my apps until I use this one for a few days to see how it performs first.
Oh and the girl at the AT&T support center told me she had to replace my battery because it would not power up the new phone. So it looks like I had both a bad phone and the battery also quit the farm at the same time.
I had issues with my first infuse (I'm in FL) and completely blasted it to the point where it would literally not even respond to any button presses soft/hard or otherwise. It was DEAD! COMPLETELY DEAD...I was very sad. Anyway I was within 30 day startup period and they did full replacement no question asked. I told my local att store it froze and I pulled battery and it wouldn't come back on. They acted like morons and gave me a replacement but i feel like they knew what I did. Didn't say anything though.
Needless to say. I take my time now with these custom roms. Rockin Infused 2.2.3 and loving life with my GB and 30fps.
Good luck!

For that price did they not allow you to keep the old phone?
It would help the cause here if they did......
I've basically had it with my Skyrocket, or rather, the Skyrocket that I have. It has always had atrocious battery life, exhibited weird behavior (like today when it lost nearly 20% of its battery in about 2 hours, and claiming the PHONE component was the prime culprit when I hadn't made a phone call) and also even after I unlocked the damn thing I still can't get it to force to 2G (yes I'm using an Unlocked RAT as well.) I'm still under warranty so I want a different one even if it is refurbished.
Anyways, I know the whole deal of using ODIN to return to Stock and making sure the Flash Counter isn't tripped, but in this day and age I'm paranoid about tech stuff having personal stuff getting stolen, so I'm tempted to wipe out the internal SD card, but I don't know if this is necessary and/or potentially harmful. Can I boot into Recovery and have it format my internal card, then ODIN back to Stock, or will this just cause more problems than it's worth?

Okay next stupid question...
Would it not be easier to just install a Stock Rom then install Stock Recovery to get my phone back to regular state as mentioned here after I do a formatting, as opposed to going through all the ODIN stuff, which, if done wrong, can trip the flash counter more easily and thus leaving me with some explaining to do at the AT&T store?

I would Wipe after stock rom modem and recovery that way if it bricks att will need to fix it
Use the CWM method.
Well I returned to stock and am planning on going to AT&T after work to demand a replacement. Maybe I can use my charm and wit to negotiate into getting an upgrade to a S3 if they don't have any Skyrockets in stock, but then again I'm a guy who plays the lottery, so I'll keep my expectations in check. Worst case scenario and they just turn me down I'll brick the damn thing intentionally and then say "Oh it stopped working after the most recent update." Wish me luck.
TBQH, I'd just brick it in Kies by restoring to 2.3.5 and unpluggig during the ICS update. Tell them that you were updating to 4.0, and the thing wouldn't turn back on afterwards. If nothing else, AT&T will help get things with Sammy in order.
I wouldn't even bring up the other problems

Sorry I have no idea how Kies works (never had a need to use it as I just flash everything) That's a program you install on your CPU right and then do the update by downloading in Kies and then plugging the phone into the CPU to download to it?

Looks like I may have given myself a reason to return it before I could intentionally brick it via Kies..
I just ODINed back to stock and now the device is stuck in a boot loop. I double checked the download mode and it didn't trip the counter, so at least they can't accuse me of messing with it in that regard. I do hope that a new phone helps my problems, because quite frankly it's hard to stick with the Skyrocket in general after seeing the smoothness of the Galaxy Nexus (which my wife has) or the robust beast that is the SIII. I swear though if the Nexus 4 had LTE I'd have already ordered it, paid for same day shipping, and taken the entire day off to be able to play with it. Oh if ONLY they had included LTE... I would have paid $100 extra for that even..
Update on this..
Brought it to my local store, only to be referred to the one and only repair center in the state. They said they were going to try and restore the stock firmware onto the device. I started to get worried as I thought they may be able to undo what I had done. About 15 minutes later they gave up. I think they were trying to use Kies as opposed to ODIN. I didn't want to give on that I really knew my way around the phone and may have done the work myself. Anyways they gave me a new phone and sent me on my way.
I flashed CM10 M2 on my device again. As far as battery life goes.. it seems pretty comparable to what I had before. At this point I don't feel like going back to get yet ANOTHER Skyrocket. I suppose I'm just stuck with this battery life forever.
On a side note, even though for many of us this may be common knowledge, for everyone else, if your device is bricked, whether intentional or not, MAKE SURE YOU WIPE YOUR FLASH COUNT BEFORE BRINGING IN FOR SERVICE! The first thing the tech people are going to do is put your device into Download mode and hook it up to a CPU to flash original firmware. Unless they're COMPLETELY ignorant or don't care, if they see that custom Rom counter tripped then they're not going to touch your device.

Did you get a brand new phone or a refurbished?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using Tapatalk 2
Not sure. I'd guess refurbished as they basically had buckets in on their wall that had a wide assortment of various phones for replacement. Overall though I'm not going to fight over refurbished vs getting a brand new one. I could just as easily get a bad refurb as I could get a lemon new.
Honestly at this point I'm more annoyed with the lack of "snappiness" of this phone. As I said it doesn't help that my wife has a Galaxy Nexus (which quite frankly even ran ICS better than my Skyrocket ever did) so to see how my system is "supposed" to run and not have it just bugs me. Seeing the Galaxy S3 in action makes me so envious with that gorgeous screen and snappy response just makes me regret more and more that day nearly a year ago when my 21 month old for grabbed my Nexus One and I didn't tackle her before she threw it down the stairs. Being forced to buy a phone well before I wanted to buy a new one as I wanted to wait for LTE deployment in my area, (which I STILL don't have BTW) and now regretting a year later just... ugh.. For all the crap Apple gets with their phones, at least it's easy to pick out which phone of theirs is the best available at any given time, and (assuming they don't change to the iPad release schedule) you can feel confident it'll stay top of the line for a year.
Sorry for the /rant there
