You can go to Engadget.com in the MOBILE section to read the short write up about the newly designed Market app from Google (of course). This app isn't officially released yet so certain things may be subject to change in the official release.
EDIT: I just noticed the new Market Widget. Very nice. The app also loads up a million times faster than the previous one. I guess Ice Cream Sandwich might be around the corner.
EDIT: Although everything seems to be functioning quite well for both root and unrooted users, unfortunately root users will not be able to rent/buy movies through the new Android Market.
Enjoy your taste of the future! Download link below!

NOOB INSTRUCTIONS: Download and install using the file manager of your choice (mines is root explorer from the Android Market) That's it. ROOT IS NOT REQUIRED!

you can rent the movie with a rooted device...you just can't watch it (but you can with this trick)
open terminal on phone
Code:
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
mv /system/bin/su /system/bin/mu
close terminal and you will be able to watch rented movies on your rooted device
to revert open terminal
Code:
mu
mount -o rw,remount /system
mv /system/bin/mu /system/bin/su
google movie looks for su by name, easy work around because naming it to mu you still have suid, but rooted apps (as well as google movie) are looking for su "name" as well..with the terminal you can tell it suid is mu
gsript doesn't work on this because it too looks for su on the revert
you can copy the code to a notepad and paste it in terminal so you don't have to type every time

Sucks they block rooted phones from renting movies. But the app is really nice now!

Rooted users are not supported to watch rented movies.
Why? Because you can probably rip the movie if you are.

Mines works excellent and so does my fiancée phone. We are both running stock roms. She has a myTouch Slide 3g and of course I have the G2x. Are you using a Cm7 or Aosp based rom? Did you try going to settings from the homescreen, then click on manage applications and then scroll down to the market app and click on clear data? Let me know if it works. Also try rebooting your phone.

P.S. I'm running CM nightlies and it works fine for me.
There is also something strange about the market... I am seeing games like Modern Combat 2, BackStab, and Nova 2 on the Market. Last time I checked, Gameloft didn't release their games on the Market and my device can't play those games.

I have a Droid Incredible. Which will play those games with a few build.prop changes, but is not officially supported by Gameloft for those games. Also, I've noticed that games that I have obtained through other means (Amazon Appstore, Blapkmarket) are showing up as installed in the market.

I've got the new market (I think -- curvy top graphic with the featured apps in a 3D scroll, is that what you mean by "new market"?). What bugs me, though, is that the "My Apps" button from my Nexus One has been replaced by a "T-Mobile" button, and I have to use the menu to get to the "My Apps" listing. Is there any way to fix that (although I recognize from T-Mobile's perspective that it's not "broken")?

What exactly are you trying to accomplish? If you're referring to the maximum allowable SMS/MMS that your application will show, that's easy. As for 'storage', that is also a simple fix. Are you trying to store all SMS/MMS to the sdacrd? Also, what are your device's specs: i.e.: are you rooted running a custom rom with an AOPK messaging app or similar, or rooted stock 2.3.6., or otherwise?

The screenshot here is clearly running a custom rom. This IS NOT stock 2.3.6. However, just change the numeric value in the maximum SMS window to 2500. Unless she is a teenager, I can't imagine hitting more than that in a bill cycle. Even if she does, all that will happen is the oldest ones will "fall off" from being able to read in the SMS app. I don't know of ANY logical reason to keep every single text message you, her, or anyone gets for more than a few days. This max value should suffice, unless there's something you know that I don't!

First I'll say that I love the new messenger, but for some reason when I get a text from someone it sends it twice. In other words I receive two messages for every one sent. Help?
Would recommend Go sms pro (free basic features) go premium and can backup to sd or cloud and a whole bunch more..... I got well over 3000 texts on one thread..... Also has a Butt load of themes nice Ui and to many settings..... Free texting through wifi or data.....At least worth taking a look at.....
Since the other thread has several posts making it clear it is to talk about Modem only....
I decided to unroot and bravely take the new update all in the name of science and discovery as well as I like to do stupid things. And well selfishly I was intrigued by the possibility of improved wifi as my device continuously connected to my work WiFi then disconnected and connected again to drain my battery or until I remembered to turn it off.
We all know about the smearing fix and apps to SD. Here is a list of their changes I have noticed. Feel free to use this as a general discussion of the update.
-The haptic feedback is softer now.
-Camera firmware has updated and so far seems to have improved image quality.
-If you had WIFI problems, mine are resolved to I am 95% positive yours will be too. <-- WiFi then proved just as troublesome.
-Smoother transition effects (the effect itself seems new to me)
- on the about device page in settings there is a secure boot status now.(there has been talk about this for this update, I didn't remember anything there before.) Screenshot included.

To late for me to flash any roms until a root patch comes to this firmware. When the patched firmware with the root access is posted later by scrosler then hopefully someone can answer that question assuming the only change in it is the addition of superuser.
I am 99% certain that if it can't be rooted then it can't be lokied until Loki is updated.

I would normally want to agree but I've used a number a phones and devices Samsung and other manufacturers on the router with no problems. This phone has trouble staying connected. I understand it has to do with a certain chip set. This to me says no reason the router manufacturer and users need to make changes for 1 device. Samsung needs to investigate and make the fix. Hopefully it can be a software fix.
If you bought a new lawnmower that didn't cut your grass, would you blame the grass or lawnmower? Considering the grass hasn't changed and the old mower cut it just fine until it broke, I would assume you would diagnose the new mower.

Yea i ment the app the actual name is virgin tv anywhere too, thought that would be obvious to anyone who actually has it.
I've also read that it's available for the Z1 but it's not appearing in the play store for me? Not 100% as to why but it's hidden.
Perhaps my device is reported as something else other than the Z1, I do have play store fixes on my phone via xposed but I have turned that off and tried again to no avail.
So anyone who's got it on their z1 and has it working, can you share as to how please?
Cheers.

Yea i ment the app the actual name is virgin tv anywhere too, thought that would be obvious to anyone who actually has it.

That's why I ask what app you meant, because I see that app but can't download (at least not from market)...

Try to Google "virgin tv anywhere market" and open first link.

Tried an APK the other day and it wouldn't install. Not 100% as to why.
That links dead too m8.
I have a working APK, (by working I mean that it's a valid APK and will try to install), I get a not installed error, do you think pushing to system it may install? Or do you think altering permissions may get it to run? Cheers m8.

Wait a bit - I'll upload fully working version.
It's 30Mb so it'll take few mins to upload.
That one works without any problems...
Here it is :

Right? For some strange reason, I tried to install from the play store on the internet rather than the one on the phone and it's found my phone and installed the app?
Weird.
Thanks for trying m8, I appreciate your help

That's why I said - try via Google (web).
That way market can't read your phone files (prop files) and install apk.without problem.
Great, if all works

I tried that yesterday though and it said I don't have any devices that it's installable on, but today it worked ?
Bloody thing doesn't work on rooted phones Anyone get this working, let me know.
Root cloak didn't work, nor did hide my root.
What a pain in the backside.
Not on a z1 but on my nexus 4 I had to temp disable root from within the supersu app.
Is your z1 on Virgin mobile by the way, I'm hoping to get one soon so interested to see you've managed to root yours.

Nope i'm on EE, but don't buy direct from a carrier as you most likely won't be able to unlock the bootloader, i found that out the hard way, ended up sending it off for repair when i bricked it, but sent it via a third party and got back an unlockable phone.
You don't want to go down that road m8.
So on the Nexus 4 you were able to use the app by doing what exactly? Removing root from within the superuser app itself??
PS: In all fairness the Z1 is a great phone but if you are looking to buy then hold fire and get something else in a few months, theres some pretty beefy phones on the way, the HTC One (2) will be a winner.
Actually now that I think about it, in selected the option to perm unroot the phone so not ideal..... Although with nexus 4 I just had to reflash supersu from recovery to get it back. Not ideal.
As for my next phone, I'm giving up on HTC after 4 previous phone, I got fed up of sense.
Of course the z2 will be announced later this month so I might hold off and see....

Nah m8, HTC Sense is by far and away the best UI there is, it just works and is functional to perfection.
Only went with the Z1 as on paper it was great, i've had my ups and downs with it and it's been ok as of late.
I do miss some HTC features though.
I'm using the Nexus 5 launcher too so besides the camera and stock apps theres very little left from stock.
As for the Virgin app not working, i could remove root but any time i decide to mess with my phone i always end up having to redo the whole thing. The maker of rootcloak has recognised that the virgin app doesn't work and is most likely working on a fix, so hopefully at some point it'll be functional, more and more people will want to use the app as it's a great thing to have on your phone, being rooted simply shouldn't be an issue and Virgin are a55holes for making it an issue just because the powers that be have told them to.

Unfortunately Virgin are no different to Sky etc - the content providers insist on protecting from root, otherwise they won't licence the channels. No point in blaming Virgin really, the industry is the issue. The irony of course is that on PCs/Macs it's much easier to rip streams than a tablet/phone so why the restrictions on mobile devices when laptops etc are a greater risk is beyond me.
However, good news is that the latest version of TV Anywhere (downloaded today from Play store) which is now compatible with 4.4 seems to work with Rootcloak - I just tried it on my Nexus 10 (not tried my Z1 yet but not so bothered about use on phone) and it asks for superuser (which I denied) and even though I get a toast message from SuperUser (saying 'denied') it gets through and streams channels
Not sure if they realise and will fix that in a later version, but will definitely be backing up this version's .apk

Ah cheers for letting me know m8, that's some good news at least, I only wanted it to work as it's available and i already pay for the XXL package with virgin so may as well get something out of them, i'm putting an AOSP rom on my phone later on today so will check out the app again, i've got root cloak so i'm good to go, just need to reflash my phone, just out of interest do you have the paid or free version of rootcloak?
Cheers m8.
Just the free one, I've only recently started to explore xposed modules
