What exactly are you trying to accomplish? If you're referring to the maximum allowable SMS/MMS that your application will show, that's easy. As for 'storage', that is also a simple fix. Are you trying to store all SMS/MMS to the sdacrd? Also, what are your device's specs: i.e.: are you rooted running a custom rom with an AOPK messaging app or similar, or rooted stock 2.3.6., or otherwise?

Well its for my sister ATRIX 2 stock no root running 2.3.6 for some reason she wants to know if the phone will save more than its 1000 msg limit, or if there's a way to keep saving her msgs somewhere else like her sd card or a cloud service

The screenshot here is clearly running a custom rom. This IS NOT stock 2.3.6. However, just change the numeric value in the maximum SMS window to 2500. Unless she is a teenager, I can't imagine hitting more than that in a bill cycle. Even if she does, all that will happen is the oldest ones will "fall off" from being able to read in the SMS app. I don't know of ANY logical reason to keep every single text message you, her, or anyone gets for more than a few days. This max value should suffice, unless there's something you know that I don't!

Download the file attachment I am sending you for the AOPK messaging .apk. Install like any other .apk file (make sure unknown sources box is ticked in settings>applications>unknown sources!) You should be able to adjust the max MMS/SMS numbers there.

MMS. apk Installed. Problem.
First I'll say that I love the new messenger, but for some reason when I get a text from someone it sends it twice. In other words I receive two messages for every one sent. Help?

Would recommend Go sms pro (free basic features) go premium and can backup to sd or cloud and a whole bunch more..... I got well over 3000 texts on one thread..... Also has a Butt load of themes nice Ui and to many settings..... Free texting through wifi or data.....At least worth taking a look at.....

New OTA: EE4 - Tons of Fixes

OK fellas... I'm not a dev by any means, but my internal contact at VZW gave me a heads up on a new OTA coming out tonight. EE4 is supposed to fix an entire laundry list of issues, so we just need someone with the skills to obtain it and convert it for those of us on Voodoo.
Copied from http://support.vzw.com/system_update/charge.html:
Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a new software update,
EE4, for your DROID CHARGE by Samsung..
Verizon Wireless and Samsung encourage you to download this update.
Call Features
Improved battery life when placing a voice call.
Easily return calls within the call log entry by pressing the phone icon.
Outgoing calls from the Visual Voice Mail application will be placed properly.
Pressing and holding the ‘1’ key will automatically route the user to the Voice Mail service (*86).
Audio has been adjusted to avoid ‘No Audio’ or ‘Screeching Sounds’.
Web Browsing and Data Access
Accurately detect and connect to the Verizon Wireless 4G LTE or 3G network.
Enhanced browser performance.
Email and Messaging
A new Email folder structure has been implemented.
When a subfolder exists under a current Email folder, an arrow will appear to the right of the folder icon.
When a user touches the arrow, the folder system will expand to show all subfolders available for selection.
When an Exchange password has been modified, the device will direct the user to the password screen to adjust the saved password accordingly.
Improvements in the Email and Calendar sync.
Additional Device Features
Restoration of Mobile Hotspot capability.
When in USB Mass Storage mode (UMS), the device will be recognized immediately when plugged into a PC.
Device recognizes ringtones purchased from the Verizon Wireless website.
Improvements in GPS performance.
For step-by-step instructions on how to perform the download,

The document is official, viewable at the link above. When I first got the heads up, the link still loaded up the ED2 update.
This is very good news. I was going to return my Droid Charge this weekend because of a lack of 4g and my 3g crapping out every so often. Hopefully this software update alleviates the issues. *crosses fingers*
*EDIT* Only time I've ever received a 4g signal in Miami was on the Dolphin Expressway and parts of Doral. I live in a 4G LTE area according to the map and have received no signal. Even up in Pembroke Pines, nothing...waiting on the update now. Thanks for the heads up.
So tonight? For sure

You can go to Engadget.com in the MOBILE section to read the short write up about the newly designed Market app from Google (of course). This app isn't officially released yet so certain things may be subject to change in the official release.
EDIT: I just noticed the new Market Widget. Very nice. The app also loads up a million times faster than the previous one. I guess Ice Cream Sandwich might be around the corner.
EDIT: Although everything seems to be functioning quite well for both root and unrooted users, unfortunately root users will not be able to rent/buy movies through the new Android Market.
Enjoy your taste of the future! Download link below!

NOOB INSTRUCTIONS: Download and install using the file manager of your choice (mines is root explorer from the Android Market) That's it. ROOT IS NOT REQUIRED!
EDIT:
KingDavid63 said:
original post by : ogdobber
you can rent the movie with a rooted device...you just can't watch it (but you can with this trick)
open terminal on phone
Code:
su
mount -o rw,remount /system
mv /system/bin/su /system/bin/mu
close terminal and you will be able to watch rented movies on your rooted device
to revert open terminal
Code:
mu
mount -o rw,remount /system
mv /system/bin/mu /system/bin/su
google movie looks for su by name, easy work around because naming it to mu you still have suid, but rooted apps (as well as google movie) are looking for su "name" as well..with the terminal you can tell it suid is mu
gsript doesn't work on this because it too looks for su on the revert
you can copy the code to a notepad and paste it in terminal so you don't have to type every time

Mines works excellent and so does my fiancée phone. We are both running stock roms. She has a myTouch Slide 3g and of course I have the G2x. Are you using a Cm7 or Aosp based rom? Did you try going to settings from the homescreen, then click on manage applications and then scroll down to the market app and click on clear data? Let me know if it works. Also try rebooting your phone.

P.S. I'm running CM nightlies and it works fine for me.
There is also something strange about the market... I am seeing games like Modern Combat 2, BackStab, and Nova 2 on the Market. Last time I checked, Gameloft didn't release their games on the Market and my device can't play those games.

I have a Droid Incredible. Which will play those games with a few build.prop changes, but is not officially supported by Gameloft for those games. Also, I've noticed that games that I have obtained through other means (Amazon Appstore, Blapkmarket) are showing up as installed in the market.

[MOD] T-Mobile Wi-Fi Calling 01/22/2012

READ BEFORE FLASHING.
Nandroid.
POST 1- This gets it running on ALMOST any ROM on the Infuse 4G. It walks you step by step in setting up your build.prop to acknowledge the libs and flashing it. I recommend doing post 2 if your ROM already has a pre made fix.
POST 2- These are pre made to the ROM which is then just flash and go. None of that editing, required, but also have tweaks and fixes I put in myself to give you the best satisfaction.
Examples of the changes made are battery saving tweaks, forced hardware accelerated graphics if not already enabled, phone model spoofed to the T-Mo Galaxy S II in the market so you can download T-Mo apps like "My Account", carrier ID changed to T-Mobile so you get to see T-Mobile apps in market, a higher events per second value giving you ultra smooth scrolling, and 100% best quality JPEGs. Check post 2 for what ROMs are available
Note, doing post 2's method will spoof it into a T989 (SGSII) so posting on xda will leave the wrong sig unless you change it
Now to the fun part
------------------------
I got the T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling libs and apks working, tested it out and it works only IF you follow my instructions.
I have this running on Darky's 10.4 ROM on my unlocked infuse.
***ONLY FOR T-MOBILE USERS***
1) BEFORE flashing the zip. Go to /system/build.prop and open using root explorer or some similar file manager with ROOT permissions.
2) go to the very BOTTOM of the prop, and add in exactly this:
Code:

rilswitch.vendorlibpath=/system/lib/libsec-ril.so
rilswitch.ganlibpath=/system/lib/libganril.so

It'd still work, its just it won't register on the wifi calling. The app reads the sim as security. So all you essentially did was add an app. T-Mobile users get unlimited minutes over wifi.

You are invincible this is great. I have horrible signal at home and this has just made life easier for me. I almost regretted getting the infuse. Just tested and works like a charm I am using this right now. I am super excited.
I bought one of those wireless hubs you carry around with you from clearwireless for $35 a month with unlimited internet so now I can use wifi calling all day long. This has been my workaround since 3G is non existent on unlocked Tmobile Infuse editions.
if you can get 3G working on this with some type of edit that would be amazing lol I'd donate 100 on completion of that project. The stars under my name show I am an honest guy when it comes to donating to the cause. I know that the infuse hardware cant do Tmobile 3G but if there is a workaround that would be awesome.

It'd still work, its just it won't register on the wifi calling. The app reads the sim as security. So all you essentially did was add an app. T-Mobile users get unlimited minutes over wifi.

Nothing is free. Try grooveIP with google voice. It works pretty well. Wifi calling for tmobile on the infuse is great.

Found any bugs yet ?
I think I may have, but I wanna confirm it's not just all my messing around with the phone.
While it's connect to wifi calling, turn off wifi. wait a bit, does it turn back on by itself?

You are invincible this is great. I have horrible signal at home and this has just made life easier for me. I almost regretted getting the infuse. Just tested and works like a charm I am using this right now. I am super excited.
I bought one of those wireless hubs you carry around with you from clearwireless for $35 a month with unlimited internet so now I can use wifi calling all day long. This has been my workaround since 3G is non existent on unlocked Tmobile Infuse editions.

Not invincinble- just persistent.
Also, don't forget to call T-Mobile ans tell them you have Wi-Fi calling (..somehow) and that you want the wifi unlimited minutes feature added on.
Also, I want everybody to post their ROM names so I can gather a list of confirmed and which way you did it, whether you followed post 1 or you just flashed the darky fix meant only for darky._.
As for 3G - the Galaxy S 4G can get AT&T's 3G bands but for some reason the Infuse doesn't. The radios just don't receive the one missing frequency that T-Mobile airs. No modem update can change that.
It automatically restarts when wifi picks it up. I leave it on all day whether i have wifi or not and it just kicks in when wifi is strong enough.
Currently using ZEUS v5.

Added the ZEUS BUILD 5 ROM to my supported, and made a custom ZIP for it. Has a few tweaks to it, too. Would be nice if you could flash and confirm it works?

Pics turn multimedia?

Can someone please advise how to make my pics I receive via text to not run as a 5 second video? I'm not sure what I did but I'm certain it didn't do this initially.

Are you using stock messaging app or something else? Which ROM?
my mms have been doing this since android 1.1
yeah.
This is how the GSM network sends Android MMS'. If you find a friend with a Sprint or Verizon CDMA Android device, you'll see it just sends as a photo. Crazy, huh?
Actually I believe this is how Samsung devices handle it. Although I can speak for cdma devices, I know my atrix and nexus one didn't do this. Its just houw the stock app works. If you use a different app like go SMS the problem is gone.
I like the landscape view in the stock app which is why I didn't make the switch myself.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
Yes I'm using the stock ROM and the original mms app. I guess perhaps it did this since day one but I'm realizing it now lol. Appreciate your responses and I may try a different mms app.

Discoveries in new firmware update.

Since the other thread has several posts making it clear it is to talk about Modem only....
I decided to unroot and bravely take the new update all in the name of science and discovery as well as I like to do stupid things. And well selfishly I was intrigued by the possibility of improved wifi as my device continuously connected to my work WiFi then disconnected and connected again to drain my battery or until I remembered to turn it off.
We all know about the smearing fix and apps to SD. Here is a list of their changes I have noticed. Feel free to use this as a general discussion of the update.
-The haptic feedback is softer now.
-Camera firmware has updated and so far seems to have improved image quality.
-If you had WIFI problems, mine are resolved to I am 95% positive yours will be too. <-- WiFi then proved just as troublesome.
-Smoother transition effects (the effect itself seems new to me)
- on the about device page in settings there is a secure boot status now.(there has been talk about this for this update, I didn't remember anything there before.) Screenshot included.

Can you please try to flash a Loki ROM? This is the question that still needs to be answered >.<
I've noticed only these few things from just a few minutes.
- New Wallpapers
- About Device Icon is now Yellow
- Icon for Battery in App Drawer
- Icon for Data in App Drawer
I'll probably notice more as I have it longer, I don't know if this is new. But I never noticed the bubbles on messaging before to indicate I have a message, so I don't know if that's new.
Edit: It feels a heck of a lot smoother to.
Thanks for the info. Have you tried phone signal strength in an area where before the modem update your service was weak? If so any improvement?
Thanks

To late for me to flash any roms until a root patch comes to this firmware. When the patched firmware with the root access is posted later by scrosler then hopefully someone can answer that question assuming the only change in it is the addition of superuser.
I am 99% certain that if it can't be rooted then it can't be lokied until Loki is updated.

Herp derp you're right, it started too hit me after I posted that that there wouldn't even really be a way to test yet.

I see people complain about WiFi all the time, and 99% of the time it's the router and not the phone.
Your work router sucks, that is why your phone is having issues. No firmware update is gunna fix that.

I would normally want to agree but I've used a number a phones and devices Samsung and other manufacturers on the router with no problems. This phone has trouble staying connected. I understand it has to do with a certain chip set. This to me says no reason the router manufacturer and users need to make changes for 1 device. Samsung needs to investigate and make the fix. Hopefully it can be a software fix.
If you bought a new lawnmower that didn't cut your grass, would you blame the grass or lawnmower? Considering the grass hasn't changed and the old mower cut it just fine until it broke, I would assume you would diagnose the new mower.

It will not run on it.. You will either have to change your build.prop or edit the apk. I tried running in on my dads s4 and it just says it is for the S4 active only. It wont even run on the i9295 version of the active just i537

Forgot about the build.prop.
I don't know how to specifically change that, but I'm guessing you would just need to break down the APK, modify, and repackage it?
I'm hoping to look into the APK when I can.

I guess... it would be best to have either Geohot to do it or just another dev that can just rewrite a script using the exploit he had.
Good luck finding Geohot, he made the Apk and we haven't heard from him since.

Only because other devs started attacking him claiming he was stealing other peoples work...
I just tried running it. I ran with no errors and no root. I will still look into it when I get home. Geohot did seem different when I read through the thread. I will carefully proceed so to try not to offend any other developers.
