[Q] Anyway to automatically "Reset" A-GPS Data? - Samsung Infuse 4G

Any thought's on how I could automate a daily reset of my Infuse's A-GPS data?
I am referring to functionality similar to GPS Status app's feature "menu:Tools:Manage A-GPS state:Reset" .
I never know when or how long my infuse's GPS is going to take to grap a satellite fix BUT it does work if I reset the A-GPS state every few days via GPS Status app. I'd like to automate this so I don't have to do anything.
( Note: I've tried everything I could find to fix my Infuse's GPS issues and this is the only way that has worked, albeit temporarily (I've even returned one Infuse).
thanks. )

Fuze GPS Data Stream Freezing: Possible Solution

Hi guys,
I thought I would share what I discovered today. If this solution has been found, I apologize. Most users have been trying to get their Fuze GPS to lock on to satellites. Having used several GPS phones and many Bluetooth GPS pucks, I would say I'm somewhat experienced with using GPS on the PPC platform.
I have no issues with getting a lock on my Fuze. My issue is with Fuze's GPS chip randomly stop streaming data to my GPS applications. This usually happens after the initial lock. So for example:
a) Get a lock using any GPS application (GPS Test for example)
b) Exit GPS application
c) Launch GPS application again. Fuze will take several seconds to regain lock.
d) Fuze will take several seconds again to lock in, THEN it just stop streaming data to the GPS application!
I was able to reproduce this consistently. If you're using Garmin or TomTom, they will indicate that GPS lock is lost or something to that effect.
THE SOLUTION: Turn OFF aGPS!
a) Start->Setting->System->AGPS Settings
b) Uncheck BOTH "Enable AGPS" and "Enable AGPS location information..." (under the Privacy tab)
I was able to show that this consistently resolved my GPS data stream stopping problem. I'm using the .28 radio, but try it on the stock radio to see if that works and let the community know. What about QuickGPS? AFAIK, it's not causing any problem at all.
I hope this is helpful.
After standing on my deck for 20mins last Friday waiting on locks, I follow above and get a lock in 10secs(in my living room).
Turned off AGPS was the only change
It looks like without AGPS, the GPS would just stream whatever info it had cached even if it lost signal.
AGPS would clear last state instead and so become highly sensitive to signal-loss on the next poll. It doesn't help that this device is weaker in picking up GPS signals.
Yes, turn off AGPS.

Indeed, that would be exactly how I like my GPS to behave (use the cached ephemeris data). In fact, that was how all Bluetooth GPS puck works before the advent of AGPS. I guess AGPS is a good concept, but its implementation needs to be further tweaked.
If you have not used your GPS in a week or so, then AGPS is an advantage. Daily use, perhaps not so much.

Is there any software to turn on/off GPS on WM6?

Hi guys. I did quite some research on the forums, but have not found any software that can turn on/off GPS. When i'm saying turning on/off GPS, it means something like the wireless manager: when gps is is turned off, it simply is off so no software would be able to use it.
as i tried, software like gps switch does not do this job.
also, is there any software to show the current status of gps? And here i do not mean actively requesting for satellites information, but just to see the status whether the gps is currently being used by any software. so i guess it should not communicate to the intermediate driver itself, but has to work below it?
any suggestions? many thx.

Hi,
GPS is always OFF, unless a GPS-program opens the comm-port to fire it up. And as long you don't start such a program, GPS will stay off.

I'm afraid it is not. It appeared clear to me that after close some gps app in a short period of time, the gps is still on (because the gps will soon find a lot of satellites if i open the gps app again, but this would not be the case after i close the gps for a long time)

Yeah i tried that. it is just another gps client which accesses the intermediate driver. It does not have the feature to turn off gps globally.
From WM5 sdk it appears that there is a "GPSGetDeviceState" method in intermediate driver interface. Can it be used to get the current state of gps? Isn't there any software making use of this function to display the current state of gps?

Hi,
That is due to the fact that GPS-programs like TT6 e.a. read out the ephemeris-data from the satellites and store it in the chip. but that data is only valid for a short period. After that the program needs to download the data again... hence a longer time to get a fix. Which also covers for the differences between (hardware) A-GPS and (software) QuickGPS.

any new software found? I got a GPS software and the GPS is on after i exit the program and it drainĀ“s the battery.

GPS Lock Troubles

I'm sorry if this is addressed somewhere, but I couldn't find anything solid while searching. I use my G2x every day with SportyPal Pro for my bike rides. I am currently running stock 2.2.2 with root and am having some difficulty attaining an initial GPS lock. It seems like when I go to launch any GPS app, it will not get a lock. To get it to work, I have to open GPS Test, select tools, and clear out the A-GPS data. After doing this, it looks almost instantly and will keep a lock forever.
The next day, however, I must do the same thing, and this happens nearly 100% of the time. The funny thing to me is when I open GPS Test, it will show a strong signal from a lot of satellites, around 7-9, but it doesn't use these signals to find the lock. Again, after resetting the A-GPS data, it works every time almost instantly.
I have just dealt with this but it is getting more frustrating. Today, GPS Test wouldn't load, just kept showing a blank screen and force closing eventually, even after fix permissions, clear data, uninstall and reinstall. Only after another reboot, would GPS Test even load. I can't explain because I don't know well how the inner software works, but the GPS seems to have a hard time relocating itself when using the cached A-GPS data. Any fixes that anyone knows of, or things I could try?
Thanks a lot in advance.

When you launch the app and go to the satellite view screen, press menu, and it is one of the options.

Sadly, I am having the same problem
I think I'm having the same problem too: I can pick up plenty of satellites (more than the 3-4 required for a lock), and they turn green, but I don't actually get positioning data available.

Well, I guess if you are seeing the same problem, it could be a software failure. Why can't Android phone makers release a phone with GPS that works out of box? Do they not test these things? Hopefully the Gingerbread update addresses this issue.
I have GPS issues often as well.
Sent from my LG-P999 using XDA Premium App
I don't have this problem but I have heard of others that do. My device locks in literally 3 seconds and is accurate to 5 feet. I have to say it's the best GPS I have ever used.
I think this problem is an android issue not hardware. I have to load gps test on my vibrant before being able to get a lock also. Wont lie the lock time on this phone is considerably longer but when finally does lock its strong and accurate.
via LG G2x
It takes me forever to get a GPS lock too. However, once it finally gets one, it's fairly strong and accurate.
Gps is way crap now.my vibrant beats the crap out of it... I'm getting like 40000 feet accuracy. It eventually works itself out but still crap..
In gps status in tools deleting the a gps stuff it takes a long time (5 seconds) vs my vibrants agps data. Vibrants clears instantly almost like the lg remembers too much causing conflict....
I cant find my location via gps in google maps. In the gps status app, it appeard to be locking as fix/sats shows 3/3. Ive cleared agps data and also tried to download agps data. Does anyone experience a similar issue? Any suggestions as what elsd i can try?
I dont think its the hardware because it did work the last time i tried about 2 weeks ago. Since then I tried to use a location spoofing app (that has since been uninstalled and mock locations disabled).
On the O2X the mongs at LG left out the gps.conf file, adding it manually sped up lock time no end. I guess it's possible they did the same on the G2X?
I actually exchanged a G2x yesterday that was having problems with GPS
Regardless of whether it was on stock or not, rooted or otherwise, my phone would not find any more than 4 satellites, and would never lock. Factory resets did nothing. My fiancee's phone, however, would find 8 or more within 10 seconds when both phones were set right next to each other. Both phones had a 4/05 manufacture date.
Because of that, I was pretty sure my issue was hardware, as I was never able to get the GPS to work properly. The phone they gave me yesterday (4/12 manufacture date) does seem to work ok, though the screen bleeding a bit worse (but that doesn't bother me *that* much)

[Q] AGPS over WIFI on Android?

Hi all,
I'm going on holiday and would like to use my Android (Galaxy Tab) for offline navigation. I'd like to keep my GSM module switched off all the time to avoid data roaming charges. I'll do my surfing etc over WIFI where available.
I'd like to use AGPS for a quick satellite fix.
Can I download AGPS satellite data over WIFI, or does this require a GSM (GPRS/UMTS) connection?
How do I manually trigger AGPS download on Android?*
Help is much appreciated!
N.
* On the Windows Mobile devices of old there used to be a program calles "QuickGPS" or similar that would download AGPS satellite data, but I don't see any such option on Android - - ?
Android GPS requires a LIVE data connection to function with realtime navigation, if u are just using Wi-Fi this won't work.
On the other hand, assuming u have a hefty sdcard in your tablet, u could use "sygic GPS" from market, that WILL allow offline GPS.
icenight89,
I'm using Navigon, which keeps map data on board, no data connection required there. Sygic is another option. Google Navigation does require a live connection, but Navigon, Sygic and others do not. Storage required for on-board map data is not all that massive btw, my Navigon maps of Europe require ~ 2 GB.
My question was more on the point of assisted-GPS satellite data. How do I download current satellite data so that my GPS knows where to look (thus getting a quicker satellite fix) if I want to avoid a mobile data connection via GSM?
Once I have a GPS fix, offline satnav is no problem.
Any ideas there?
N.
Android downloads agps data automatically, there is no way to "force" an update. U could try connecting to wifi and then running android nav (google maps/navigation) with GPS enabled, that would cache the new data I presume. That's your only option really
On a side note, I consider 2gb for one sole app a lot, whether its maps or not lol
Um, GPS Test software lets you do this.

Five years later, google lands me on this thread because I too was asking "can I update AGPS over wifi?". (Empirical evidence: I can, because at the trail-head I get a lock in about 10 seconds. On the other hand, maybe it didn't update, and the GPS hardware/antenna is just that good. )
And since answers were given without answering the question, I will keep looking.
But as for GPS Test, it is essential. Prior to using any nav app, I open GPS Test and watch it get a lock, or not, because the satellite display shows me exactly what is going on, as opposed to the nav apps, which just sit there maybe getting a lock maybe not and you have no effing idea why.

sorry gor my english. :silly:
Nope.... the problem is it can't find any satellites....
And i want offline gps works. not online AGPS.
tried this one twice but still my gps can't find any satellites
I am in the same situation. My GPS used to work and then it stopped. I can't even remember what I flashed or whether it stopped straight after rooting.
I've tried a whole lot of different ROMs (JB/ICS/GB, AOSP/Sense) so its not a ROM issue. I've used the AGPS patch and all those other GPS apps that are supposed to diagnose and fix the GPS, non have worked. I have eventually put it down to a hardware fault and conceded that my GPS will not work.
I'm not wondering about flashing another radio. Will that make any difference ?
No, radio has nothing to do with GPS. If it's faulty - it might just be a disconnected antenna.
Enable data
I know its not the perfect solution but by enabling mobile data and the GPS you do get a precise fix on your location and it barely drains your allowance.
Mobile data doesn't affect GPS. All it does - it enables downloading almanac and ephemeris (satellite path charts, that tell the GPS where to look and for which satellites) instantly from the dedicated internet servers, and it also allows more precise clock synchronization - all that to make the lock faster. It doesn't help maintaining the lock.
And even without mobile data, at least 1-2 satellites should be visible almost immediately.
