try this thread,it has the same problem.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1442032
hope it works on your DS
sorry gor my english. :silly:

Nope.... the problem is it can't find any satellites....
And i want offline gps works. not online AGPS.
tried this one twice but still my gps can't find any satellites

I am in the same situation. My GPS used to work and then it stopped. I can't even remember what I flashed or whether it stopped straight after rooting.
I've tried a whole lot of different ROMs (JB/ICS/GB, AOSP/Sense) so its not a ROM issue. I've used the AGPS patch and all those other GPS apps that are supposed to diagnose and fix the GPS, non have worked. I have eventually put it down to a hardware fault and conceded that my GPS will not work.
I'm not wondering about flashing another radio. Will that make any difference ?

No, radio has nothing to do with GPS. If it's faulty - it might just be a disconnected antenna.

Enable data
I know its not the perfect solution but by enabling mobile data and the GPS you do get a precise fix on your location and it barely drains your allowance.

Mobile data doesn't affect GPS. All it does - it enables downloading almanac and ephemeris (satellite path charts, that tell the GPS where to look and for which satellites) instantly from the dedicated internet servers, and it also allows more precise clock synchronization - all that to make the lock faster. It doesn't help maintaining the lock.
And even without mobile data, at least 1-2 satellites should be visible almost immediately.

did you enable GPS in settings? It's disabled by default.
GPS on my phone since 1.5 has been 10x better than before. aGPS ftw.
mine seems to be working fine. have you updated your radio?
yeah i did enable the settings and i have not updated the radio is that the update from HTC on the Dude 1.5 thread?
My gps picks up my location allooooot faster with the new radio too.

could be, i have no club about the dude's though, im using Haykuro's ADP1.5 and updated my radio. You probably should do it if you can, it MAY fix your problem and it wont hurt anything.
all the radios posted are the same
it doesnt matter what build you are one
the radio is for the cupcake rom aka 1.5
so go ahead and update your radio
and if your gps is still giving you problems and wipe will be the best bet
just rmr to back up
I believe 1.5 supports A-GPS, which uses external servers (accessed over the data connection) to help speed up GPS initialization and in some cases calculations. This does leak some location data off the phone though, if you care about this.
Okay thanks for the suggestions i will try to do this today and see what happens...

Is there anyway to use the old method? What about us users without a data plan? That kills the GPS for us.
I had the same problem when I updated my phone to JF1.51. I just wiped and re-installed. Now my GPS is faster then ever.
You are not alone
I have updated my radio and spl, enabled gps, and still it takes 30 minutes for the phone to find my location. I have asked on occasion about this, and a few others have had the same problem. So I don't know what to tell you. Glad I could be no help to you.
To speed up GPS location, the new updates also include aGPS, a = assisted.
This is when it will utilise your internet connection via wifi or 3G/EDGE to triangulate your position between transmission towers to help give a rough estimate as to where you are in the world, giving the actual GPS unit a headstart in locating where you are.
You would need to enable this though. Settings > Security & Location > Use wireless networks. Also make sure Enable GPS Satellites is enabled too.
Cell location (without gps) seems to be broken with 3g in 1.5. If I switch to edge, I get my approximate location every time.
But if I use 3g, google maps rarely finds my location, unless I turn on gps.
What build are you using? I've had no problems with Dude's ROM personally as previously I was on JF before taking the jump to a more updated and heavily optimised ROM. Could be worth trying it out if you are still on JF.
I have the same problem, now I can only use GPS with wireless connection.
If I untick the wireless option, the GPS become useless.
I'm using Rogers v3 rom, latest radio and SPL, can anyone help us to solve the problem?

I can't remember if 1.5 had this, but I think it did. Did you get a prompt when you enabled it via settings (not through a second hand app, actually through the internal settings)? My GPS didn't work until I went in and disabled/reenabled both the Cell and GPS location services. When I did this, I got a prompt from Google to agree to terms (or whatever) and after selecting - whamo. Worked.

GPS on AT&T Fuze with ROGERS?

Hey ive unlocked and flashed to a sweet NRG rom and love it. I just want to use google Maps (or something similar) to find my position on a map (turn by turn maybe?). I remember with my iPhone when I first had it the GPS worked great then one day I was never able to get my actual position (just within a certain amount of meters).
Did rogers shut down GPS?
Now on my new phone when I goto "GPS location" in google maps it searches for a satellite but doesnt seem to get my position (0)... Is there a setting I can turn on to allow GPS or do I need to cal rogers and rip on someone? LOL
keep up the great work guys!!!
- Eddy
I just turned 3g on and did the HTC GPS tool. I opened the port and started the test and then menu-Information and I dont seem to have a position.
any ideas guys? seems like rogers problem.

GPS on the HTC is using the basic GPS Signal coming from satellites. Are u outside or near a window to a fix ?
Look http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Global_Positioning_System
What u used was A-GPS what is assisted GPS with help from Cell Phone provider. It gives faster fix and a pseude gps in buildings.
Go outside with ur cellphone with clear sky view, start the htc gps tool and u should get position fix within some minutes or even seconds. There is no need for 3g because the gps itself does not need any cellphone connection. It takes satellite signals to calculate the position.
When u update quick gps it is faster in the position fix because it already knows some basic sat data. But still no phone connection necessary for using GPS.
The google map u then only see with data (3g or wlan) not because of the GPS but because of the drawed map graphics wich have to be loaded.
ok i will try the outside thing although I have the phone pointed to the window pretty much. Checking rogers website both phones only have a-GPS but I still cant get an actual location on either. Only about a 4 block square or circle.
EDIT: ok i enabled A-GPS on the touch pro and still no luck with google maps. It still seems to be looking for actual GPS
OK im managed to get it working. I changed the port to com5 and scanned found some sat's I had to change the bit thing to 56700 on com5 within google maps. Seems to be working like a charm!

Fix the gps

How to fix the gps on the Samsung captivates GPS.
Insted of MS Based use MS assissted
Lbstestmode -> application settings -> operation mode-> MS Assisted
Let me know how it gose
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA App
*facepalm*
This does nothing. It makes it marginally better at best (read: not better at all). If you're really having that much trouble, flash to KB1 and use the PlumbBob GPS fix. Those ACTUALLY do something.
For most your suggestion will give them the most lag and least accurate GPS positioning.
I suggest you in stall Adams GPS fix to your phone, that or use ga_D's. (gadnarf_gpstweak_att)
Both are much better than what Samsung has provided...
There is also plumbBob GPS fix, but when I tried his version 2nd Beta 6, my GPS only saw 2 sats with no locks even with 10+ minutes of waiting... I did not try version 1 of his fix.
As for the GPS settings, use either Standalone or MS Based(some drift with this setting, much less than ms assisted) . Set your support server to google, distance to 80 and good luck...

MS Assisted = uses cell towers only to determine position. Intended to be used for 'dumb phones' that are not GPS equipped or where only 'coarse' location data is required.
MS Based = uses cell towers to provide approximate location for initial fix, then GPS thereafter.
Thing of it is, Samsung's configuration interface for the GPS is so silly that changes in LbsTestMode don't always really affect anything. If you're getting good results after applying this 'fix' it's just coincidental, or perhaps that you'd finally used GPS long enough to get almanac and ephemerides downloaded over the satellite signal and your GPS was able to function unassisted.
What about this has anything to do with development?

I decided to make this a separate post...
My original phone had all sorts of trouble - GPS was the worst. I don't know what my original one was, I do recall I'd applied the OTA update that was supposed to fix the GPS issue - it didn't.
So I got a warranty replacement phone - it worked fine out of the box, but the next day it was doing the same old crap.
This one came with the OTA update pre-installed. It's a "1010 rev. 0.4" if I'm reading the sticker under the battery correctly...
I read countless pages of stuff online, tried various "fixes" that were posted, all with similar results.
One discussion I read was posted by a guy who claimed some GPS expertise, and indicated that the problem was in the driver - to paraphrase from memory it was something like the cache was getting corrupted and the HW/driver wasn't cleaning it up.
He basically said that they needed to write a new driver, but until hen you could use a 3rd-party app to clear the cache and re-download clean data from the satellites.
I found a (FREE!) app called "GPS Status & Toolbox" by author "EclipSim" (Disclosure: I have NO CONNECTION to this guy, just like his app!)
It has 2 menu options:
"Tools -->Manage A-GPS State-->Reset" and
"Tools -->Manage A-GPS State-->Download"
After doing those, it will usually grab a fix within 15 seconds at most. Once it's "timestamp" is updating every second (you'll see, in the app) I can then switch to Google Maps and it too will get a fix before too long.
Another nice thing about the GPS Status app is that it shows you how many satellites you "see" vs how many you're connected to. When it only sees one or 2, or when it sees a bunch but isn't connecting, you can be sure you need to reset/download again...
This thing DOES eat battery - so it's a good idea to be plugged in, or to kill the app once you've got Maps working the way you need it to...
Yes - it's a PITA to have to do all this to get a basic function of this high-dollar phone to frigging work - but it beats having it NOT work...
Hope this helps someone!

This is a refurb warranty replacement which came loaded with 2.2 Froyo
SGH I897
I897UCKB1
2.6.32.9
1008.
Tested again last night on two rides. Worked great even sitting in the cupholder. Major improvement over my original Captivate which was returned for speaker problems.
not really much better for me.

Plumbob didnt do much for me. I am pretty well convinced that with the utmost optimization, the crappy hardware in the captivate can operate marginally well at best.
Ryans Plumbob fix does work. Its a much better improvement over stock on defected models. I had a 1009 and it worked great but the tracking and navigation were still buggy unless the phone was placed on the dashboard. (Always had a larger blue circle and would skip at times).
Finally gave up and noticed that the local atnt is a device service center. Went in and got a refurbed 1008 with stock 2.2 and the navigation is excellent. Even sitting in my lap...
I mean you all should still have the 1 year warranty. Just find a service center and exchange your phone. Hell the refurbed one I got was in better cosmic condition then my original.

i know everyone will tell me im wrong but try running the samsung gps restore app once then remove it from your phone. it is free in the market. and i assure you t doesn't revert to stock settings. atleast not in any location that i am aware of. i have checked the jupiter .xml and secgps.conf and lbs test mode before and after running the app and it doesn't revert anything. but it does seem to clear errors that may be caused by messing with settings without haveing a proper jupiter.xml or config file first. for instance on old roms if i chose msbased mode in lbs test mode it would work for 6 minutes and turn off. even after reverting the settings and clearing gps data the gps would turn off after 6 minutes. running gps restore or doing a factory reset were the only two things that would make my gps work again.
also yes google maps and captivates dont agree with each other 100% of the time. it is thought by some that the gps is recieving interference from the cell antenna (that's one theory at least) so the more data you use as you navigate the more issues you might see if that is true. try a gps app that downloads the maps to the phone. it takes up alot of space but if the app agrees with the phone it is worth it. in the past i had trouble with some aftermarket apps as well while others swore the same apps had solved there navigation problems, so try a few and find one that works. navdroyd is great on my phone.
also, though people are raving about plumb bob's fix, i have more blue circles with it. the problem is the msbased mode. it doesn't work on my phone very well. (back to the data/interference theory) i instead use Da_g's fix the control plane version with lbs test mode supl settings set to control plane and i turn off dynamic accuracy. and i use the kc1 modem. there are other modems with good gps but kc1 has the best call quality of them.

[Q] GPS issues

I read a while back that there was something that can help your phone lock on to GPS faster. Recently I have been having issues locking on to GPS without restarting my phone. When I restart it, it picks up GPS right away. But if the phone has been running for a few days it always says "searching for GPS" in Maps. Is there something I can flash to make it lock on quicker? So I dont have to restart my phone when I want to use GPS or Maps/Navigation? It has always done this on whatever ROM I flash.
I don't know if it will help with your situation or not but I use an app called GPS Test. Tons of useful info and such. Also allows updating of agps data. My GPS seems to lock quickly

Good luck

There's a patch for HTC devices that uses an alternate data source for AGPS data. It *might* work on this phone-- I don't know why it wouldn't. Perhaps that's what you read.
Also, the updated Play store fixed an AGPS lock issue with HTC devices. Again, it appears this is only an HTC fix, but it could be what you came across elsewhere and are referencing above.
I haven't used "GPS Test", but there are two different apps named "GPS Status" in the play market. Both allow for AGPS location data to be refreshed, and produced satisfactory results on my HTC Sensation. They appear to be device agnostic, and would be worth a try. I went from a maximum fix of 4-6 satellites on my Sensation up to 12-15 satellites (under ideal circumstances).
Wifi and bluetooth can also cause occasional fix issues-- make sure both are turned off. I get massive GPS lock problems with Wifi turned on-- not so much with bluetooth.
I know this is a old thread but I thought it would be useful if I would share this. It was a fix for the Hercules but since its like our big brother (lol) I think it should work for our here blaze..

No GPS fix with latest Maps 8.0 update!

Is anyone having issues with the latest version of Maps? I can't get a gps fix with this version. I have tried wiping cache/dalvik.
GPS sees satellites but cannot get a fix, when I uninstall 8.0 and revert to 7.4 everything works fine!
I'm stock rooted 4.4.2 nothing out of the ordinary, running a few Xposed modules but nothing pertaining to GPS.
Any ideas?

There is a chance your GPS antenna is no longer making proper contact. If that is the case, your options are a fairly simple DIY fix that would void your warranty, or RMA for a new device.
If you are rooted I can say that using FasterGPS might be able to fix your issue as it changes the GPS tables to closer locations. Not sure why upgrading to a new Maps version would break GPS, but its free and you can definitely try it.
