Cisco Console Cable - Xoom Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am getting closer to getting this to work, but not there yet.
I am trying to get the following to work on my Xoom:
- Cisco console cable
- Tripp Lite USB to Serial
- OTG Cable
My Xoom is wifi only, and is rooted with Tiamat 1.1 ROM and currently Launchpad newest kernal.
Now when I connect everything together the Tripp Lite cable will light up for a few seconds, then go off. So I know the Xoom is seeing it, but no way to run it. I have download the app called SerialPort, but for the life of me can't get it to connect.
I know I can buy a $60 bluetooth serial adapter, but I still have to get the bluetooth adapter power. I would rather just get this working using the cables since I already have everything.
Has anyone ever gotten this work with the cables?
By using Hackers keyboard and connect bot I can connect to my Cisco equipment through wifi just fine. I just need to be able to console to the equipment in case there is no wifi available.
Ken~

I would like to see this too. I work around console equipment a lot too

For giggles I just tried this now that I have 3.2 rooted with Tiamat Katana kernal. Still a no go
Anyone know how to get this working?

[Q] adb won't connect to Epic on Mac OS X?

Has anyone been able to run 'adb shell' on a Mac and have it successfully connect to the Epic 4G? When I use adb on my MBP running Snow Leopard to connect to my EVO 4G, everything is fine. However adb will NOT detect my Epic 4G. USB debugging is checked on both devices. Also when I build projects in Eclipse I can send them to the EVO but the Epic is not detected. Any suggestions? Thanks!

I can run it on my Mac no problems. :S Thats weird. I even made a system dump on the Mac.
I have the same issue. The Epic is very finnicky with connections on OS X. If I do get into ADB Shell its only for a few seconds before it kicks me out and then I have to restart the adb server in order to get a few extra seconds of connectivity.

try adbwireless from the market.

I have no problems. I flashed mine with root the first day it was released when I got home. But I also might have a different version that you. I'm using one that came from the evo section when it talks about part one root and part two nand. There's a win32, linux, and mac zip of adb ad it's needed files. I've never installed eclipse.
Could be flaky usb cable. Or try another usb port. Try reboot phone and computer. Sometimes it gets stubborn and a reboot might help.
Thanks for the suggestions, turns out I had to switch cables ~AND~ USB ports on my 2010 15 inch MBP - I'm good to go! ^_^

Even so, try ADBwireless from the market, saves a usb port

it likely will error out for you again in the future, but if its doesnt then thats awesome. I had the same issues with getting it to connect to my mac in any form, it connected for a second or two then disappeared (same with mounting it as a usb drive).
Google "galaxy s mac osx" and you will see you aren't alone.
This is just my opinion and it doesn't amount to a hill of beans. Imo, the supplied cable is only good for emergencies or charging (and sometimes it doesn't even do that very well). The only other one I've used was the super expensive one you can buy at a corporate sprint store. Usb to micro usb. Yes it's way over priced, yes you could probably get something just as good or cheaper online, but I'm the kind of person that I want it yesterday. I don't know how good it is but it was a fraction of sprint's was a cable from ultra I saw at compusa. I think it was in the gps/phone/blue tooth headset section. I think it was a three footer for like 10 bucks or less.

Theres a 3,6,12, and one foot cable for those links in that order. I'm doing this from the phone with swype and the hardware keyboard. This can be a real pita sometimes doing this.
Yea, I use the cable from my Nexus One to mount the phone, the one out the box work.

As the OP I should have mentioned - the cable I ended up using was a BlackBerry USB cable - I think that is irony.
The issue might be power, I was having the same issue on my MBA and found using a powered USB hub worked fine, even with the stock cable.

I can confirm the power issue. The only solution for me was a powered USB hub. My 2010 15 inch core-i7 MBP immediately recognized my Epic and I am able to connect using adb. I can finally stop borrowing my wife's Windows machine to mess with my phone lol.
Powered USB links Epic+newMacs.Epic works fine on older gen. But I want a fix update!
Got one problem with the Epic 4G. The phone doesn't connect to the current generation Macs (every other try, it connects for about 5 seconds and then drops out)... and that;s for all new Macs - iMacs, MacBook, MacBookPro, but it does connect to the previous generation Macs. Just walked out of the Apple store and tested it. Bummer, can't tether, can't access memory card unless I open the phone, remove the card, and with an adapter, plug it directly to the computer.... on older Macs, you just plug it in and everything connects perfectly... not on the current Macs! At the Apple store, all they could suggest was waiting for an update from either side -- Android/Samsung or Apple. For now, no connectivity though. I'll try the powered USB, though that feels like a very temporary fix. I'm on a MacBook Pro, and portable most of the time. BTW, yes, both systems are up to date.... oh, hey, just tested.... Powered USB works... still, where can I get a pocket powered USB??
Going a bit further...
Just to expand on the subject. Using a powered USB allows the link so you can access the microSD card. However, I still can't get PDANet to connect for tethering on the current Mac generation. (Again, it works fine on previous generation Macs). Does my cell phone want more power?!
Perhaps it needs more cowbell?
Seriously though, mine needed more power too. I couldn't wait so i bootcamp into windows and use windows.
That's good news
That's good news: If booting into windows will get it to work, that means that the hardware is capable of putting out the power needed. So, it's just a soft/driver issue... not a lost case then. Just hopefully someone in either the Apple side (more likely) or the Android side will care enough to push for a fix.

[Q] Attempting to Use an Android phone as XBox 360 WiFi adapter

I'm attempting to use an Android phone as a WiFi adapter for an Xbox 360. I know it's impossible to do via the USB sockets, so I'm not even going to breach that. However, I think I may have found a new approach that may be more successful.
While digging through some junk at work, I found two adapters that got me thinking. The first was a mini-USB to USB, and the second was an ethernet to USB. The two fit together perfectly.
So now I'm attempting to get internet sharing to work on the phone to the 360 via a jerry rigged chain of adapters. it can be summed up as
XBox -> Ethernet cable -> ethernet to USB -> USB to mini-USB -> Droid Eris(running OMGB, an AOSP 2.3.3 rom)
Can anyone think of a way to get it to pass the internet connection down the line from Eris to Xbox? At the moment, the native USB tethering isn't working. I can't seem to find useful apps when searching the market.
Why not get a wifi adapter for the xbox and then tether using your phone as a wireless hotspot.

two main reasons...
1) don't feel like spending $90 on my roommate's 360(the two adapters would have cost me $4 total if I were to buy them in a store, but I got them for free through work)
2) it's way more fun to see if something hand made works than it is to go out and buy a freakishly overpriced adapter to do the same thing.
I think you can find the wireless G adapters fairly cheap on eBay as the new ones are N, but G should do you fine as long as your phone(hotspot) is in the same room.

[Q] HDMI & Samsung LE46M87BDX/XEU TV

I am having a problem with connecting to my TV via HDMI. When I connect my Xoom to my TV via HDMI, after about 5 seconds the Xoom freezes and I have to restart the Xoom.
It freezes but the picture is still output to the TV, though obviously I cannot do anything with it.
I know the problem lies with my TV as I have tried the Xoom connected to other TV's via HDMI and it works fine.
I have tried it with Anynet+ (HDMI-CEC) set to both On & Off, also tried connecting with the TV Off and On.
It did work 1 time and I had no problem with it all evening, came back the next day and it froze again.
I am connecting using a Micro-HDMI to HDMI adapter to connect a full size HDMI cable to the Xoom. I have tried multiple HDMI cables and connected using the same cables to a different TV to make sure the cables were not the problem, but it worked fine.
I have also tried connecting via the HD Speaker Dock with the same results.
I am running the Tiamat 2.2.2 "Moray" Rom with the 1.4.3 Rouge "Rana" Kernal
Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated as I'm starting to pull my hair out and I really cant afford to loose anymore
Have you tried a different HDMI port?

Yep, tried all 3 HDMI ports
how far is the xoom from the tv? i had a problem with the xoom's screen not responding, noticed that the plasma tv's heat emissions were screwing with the touch screen.
Thanks for the responses I have got it working now.
I installed the Eos ICS ROM and it worked fine, so reinstalled the Tiamat 2.2.2 "Moray" Rom and its working. Maybe an app that I had installed was causing the problem, I will find out over the next few days as I reinstall my apps.

[Q] HDMI Cable Disconnects WiFi

Hey guys, I have a bit of an issue here.
My G2X wifi runs perfectly fine, Netflix and Youtube stream perfectly. I connect an HDMI cable to the phone, and it still works perfectly. I connect the other end of the HDMI cable into the TV and it still works perfectly. Then I turn the TV on, and all wifi connectivity disappears instantly. I can still use the TV to display my phone's screen without any problems, but obviously I can't use my browser / stream any video or use the internet whatsoever (I don't have a data plan, so I can't test if that still works or not).
Furthermore, the second I turn the TV back off or disconnect my phone the signal immediately goes back to normal. Also, I've used this phone with a different HDMI cable and TV at another person's house and it had no problems. The TV I'm using is an LCD Sanyo DP32746. The HDMI cable I'm using is a 6 foot HDMI (Type A) to HDMI Micro (Type D) cable sold by OneAce Tech.
So has anyone had this same issue? Does anyone know a workaround or a fix?
I have this issue also but I use Paranoid Android ROM. The last time I tried using it with CM7 I didn't have any issues, maybe it's your ROM.

Do you think I should try CM7 then? I did a factory reset about a month ago and haven't made any modifications since except for standard app downloads.
Well if you're using the same ROM as me I don't think it works and there is no source for it anymore to fix it. From my experience it works fine with CM7 though

[Q] Working USB OTG cable?

I've now purchased THREE USB OTG straight cables (not Y) that did not work with my Shield Tablet... Is there some sort of trick i don't know about? Some special kind of OTG cable i need to buy? Some setting i need to enable for it to work?
I've tested the cables both with usb keyboard, mouse and various properly formatted USB drives - none detected at all. They dont work either with my Nexus 4 phone or Nexus 7 2012 tablet (but i suspect those models dont even support USB OTG, so doesnt say much).
Can anyone point me to a straight USB OTG cable that actually works with the tablet?
Are you running the latest OTA , Android 5.1? The OTG is broken in this version. Try plugging in the cable while tablet powered off the booting up. You won't be able to charge tablet until reboot though.

Man, I updated while traveling for 45 days!!! Loss of OTG for thumb drives, hub connection, camera image off load, wired Ethernet....what a loss!!!any word on when they will release software that at least makes it fully functional again? Plus the constant app optimization every boot cycle..I am hoping their self driving cars and self cooking ovens and make believe cities get better attention!

According to their website they expect an update by the end of the month that should fix these issues.
