[Q] Problem after Flashing - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

I recently just flashed my phone about 10 minutes ago to Krylons STOCK + Root VUVKB5 Rom, and it everything went through. The files got installed and i rebooted my system. then when it restarted it stalls at the big "S" sign, then it just goes to a black screen. does it mean I've bricked it or no? Can anyone help me out here.

If you can get into download mode after pulling the battery, you should be fine.
Just ODIN back to KD1 deodexed and you should be set

You soft bricked. Odin kc1 deodexed from the bible thread. I hear kd1 has a faulty partition or something. that is weird that kb5 didn't work. Did you check your mounts and wipe everything properly?

Sorry I'm such a beginner at this stuff. Anyways. what do you mean by mounts? and by wipe you mean like factory reset? If so. then no... I forgot to do that before I flashed. What should I do?
and "bustanut" yeah I can get into download mode flawlessly.

follow this guide to odin: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1001759
but you can use the kc1 deodexed rom instead of kb5, since it didnt work before:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045671
let that boot up and sit for 10 minutes

The option for the noobs guide to ODIN, that's the exact one I followed. I downloaded Krylon's file for STOCK + Root.
Everything went flawlessly, then it rebooted just like it said. then It goes to the Big S. Then screen goes black. Vibrates 3 times. And the "Menu-Home-Back-Search" Keys still are lit. Is that a Soft brick? And whats KC1 Deodexed.

that is a soft brick. trying using odin with the kc1 rom instead of the kb5 rom. download the rom from the second link and use that instead of the kb5 rom

Is the version Froyo? And can I select update Firmware I think or Phone update. and update my phone back to the Stock Froyo when i got it out of the box?

read the op of the second thread. it is 100% stock froyo + root. try using odin to get the phone up and running.

Jager, what exactly can I do with these
Features in KC1? Like Root and all that. and when Gingerbread officially comes out for the Samsung Galaxy S 4G. Will I receive the update?

Ceeedgeee said:
I see. What does OP mean again?
and yeah I see it is stock+root. Could you please tell me what all those things mean. Like
Deodexed
Busybox
All bloat
I don't know what those mean.
and what exactly can I do with root?
I appreciate your help Jager.

op= opening post. original post. basically the first post in the thread by the person who started the thread in the first place.
deodexed = post 3. (http://forum.ppcgeeks.com/htc-evo-4g/130398-odexed-vs-deodexed.html)
busybox = http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BusyBox
bloat = the programs that originally come with the phone...but you dont need and take up space
root= gives you access to the entire phone. lets you flash roms and basically do whatever you want with it.
if you dont know what you are doing, you should read up on everything prior to doing anything on the phone. research is key here because you can hard brick your phone and it will be useless. (worst case)

100% Stock Rom

I have been looking everywhere for a completley stock rom for two days now. All i can find is roms that are stock + root. I need to find one that is not rooted. I need to take my phone back for some warranty work. They wont accept it if it is rooted. I couldnt get my phone to make a backup of my own before. Call me a noob if u must. Ill admit it. I had the original vibrant and thought this phone was the same. I was wrong obviously. Any help would be appreciated.
Go to samfirmware.com choose ur phone n go flash to stock via odin

I have already looked in that post. All of them say kd1 + root. My phone came with 2.2.1
The very first one under CWM roms didn't say "root", but I think it's better if you flash this:

Wanted to say thank you for the information. I am downloading the file now. Will let u know if it does the trick. Once again thank you all for the help.
Don't download those other ROM's. KC1 and KD1 I think are unofficial firmware. They are deodexed. Use the one from Krylon360. KB5 STOCK
Then use superoneclick to unroot it. SUPERONECLICK
To get a completely stock rom you should take a look here: http://fus.nanzen.se/
Use preset for SGH-T959V - USA (T-mobile) and you are able to get the rom directly from samsung servers. You done even need the downloader tool
Latest official at the moment is KD1

If you want 100% stock KD1, you could also do a firmware update after that. The KD1 on this forum has a corrupt /system partition (the last time I checked). I'm not sure if that's been fixed yet.

[Q] Please help. New to rooting and roms.

I have rooted my phone, and am trying to put miui on it. I have a Samsung Galaxy S Infuse 4G Rogers. I have looked for instructions on how to do the 3e recovery mod so I can put miui on my phone, but I can't get it to work. I am not even 100% sure I'm on the right track. All the instructions I find are confusing as they ask to put files on but don't have links to download the files, or they just assume I know how to do something, or know what they are referencing. I have rooted my phone, now I want to put miui on. I would be greatly appreciative if someone could give me a hand. Thank you.

It doesn't as the recovery file is in a different folder, and every time you replace with the modded file, after reboot, the old one is replaced back where it was. The AT&T method does not work for rogers. I understand that at least now haha.
Just looking for someone to give me step by step on how to put miui on rogers samsung infuse.

MIUI is tricky. I think to get the latest galnet running, you have to mod and flash the older MIUI first. Jump thru a bunch of pull battery trick before boot up then flash the newer version.
there was some source code issue with xda and muiu link was removed. idk if it was reposted or not.
You may have better luck going back to the muiu dev thread.
otoh, if you wanted Zeus, Bionix, Numas, Victory, you can start with the above.
I don't think rogers or att makes a big different. Same hardware.
as for modded recovery, are you sure are using root explorer correctly?
The simpler method i had luck with is to use adam's heimall oneclick uckj4. then flash a second time with boot loader box checked if you don't already have BL.
then flash the defuse kernel in the second post to give you red recovery. then flash away with rom of choice
edit: if you are already rooted, couldn't you just DL sgskernel flasher from market, and flash gtg's kernel to give you red cwm/voodoo lag fix and then flash the rom of choice? - check out gtg's original post on the pin up.

Look at my later post,
I prefer method is to use adam's heimdall uckj4 one click and follow through all the way until after flashing the defuse kernel to get cwm
if you're soft brick, that will also restore your phone with gb bl.

I tried using Heimdall after that. It came back with an error on the kernel.
I almost hate android devices. There's such a learning curve for rooting/romming every device.
Now I am back to stock after using GTG Unbrick again.

Looks like you're back to stock. I like heimdall but it looks like Odin is what you're comfortable with.
In this qa section, gtg has a thread up for infused v2 rom. You can start there. Go with cwm installation.
Just make sure you have the roms of your choice already downloaded. Instead of using the infused rom, just flash the one of your choice.

Remember to wipe cache and dalvik cache in the advance setting s of cwm

[Q] Download mode but unable to unbrick

Just what everyone wants.... another thread about a bricked phone.
I have no idea what happened to my phone.... I have been running Valhalla Final for a week now with no issues to speak of and lost all my ringer tones after a failed attempt to put sound on a boot-loader using Absolute System. I rebooted into recovery and tried to restore my nandroid which failed when it said unable to unmount system. when I rebooted it had fc in android.core multiple times so I rebooted again and after it loaded had no control. did a battery pull and then would not go past the power up screen. downloaded heimdall one click file T959V-UVKJ6-One-Click.jar and put it into download mode. flashed and it went fine until factoryfs failed. now still in download but img is pic of phone to computer. last 2 attempt was
SMS-KJ6-beta2d_Stock-Rom_with_Bootloaders-One-Click.jar and it failed first at loading the modem and then at loading recovery.
I am lost. seems like everything I try makes it little worse. Have not tried ODIN yet.
Is there any hope or am I out a phone?
Give Odin a try. Last time I used Odin it froze so I pulled the plug, and when I put my phone back in download it showed that same screen, yet Odin still went through.
So no, that screen doesn't mean you're out a phone.

Grab chadster's KG4 here. I believe it has ODIN 1.85 included in the file. Don't mess with any of the check boxes in ODIN; let ODIN decide what to check.
After that, you should be able to get back to KJ6 via a one-click.
Shady grab Ravers stock GB and honks GB odin kernel. Flash Ravers, If you can, then honks. That will give you stock plus cwm. You know where to go from there. Funny thing is just yesterday FB had a post about leaving BOOTLOADERS alone w/o unbrickable mod. Good luck.

Are you going with the chadsters leak or ravers stock?
I don't know why you guys keep recommending old (leaked) ROMs to debrick with.
@Shady if you see anything posted by myself, dsexton, bhundven or raverx3x you can bet that we've tested it extensively and that it'll work on your phone.
On that note I recommend you read the whole page here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1358498
Download from the SMS KJ6 (beta2d) Kernel Stock Rom with Bootloaders link. This will get you a one click flash solution that you can go back to when you have problems. This, unlike the KG4 file others have been recommending, is the latest version of gingerbread (KJ6 is 2.3.6) and you'll have a custom kernel + root to boot so you can get flashing other gingerbread ROMs. I hope you don't have trouble flashing, and if you do, read the OP to what I linked you to. All the instructions are there.
I know this file has been failing for you but you can try restarting your computer and flashing it from safe mode. When your computer is booting up, keep pressing F8 until you get a menu. Pick "Safe mode with networking" from the menu using your arrow keys and press enter.

[Q] Infuse 4g - Broken CWM - ICS 4.0.4 Infinitum Rom

Hello, I am a long-time viewer of xda but a new member, this is my first post.
(and yes, i looked for a similar theard. i could not find one.)
So, onto the problem.
I flashed Infinitum 1.1.1 to my Infuse using cwm recovery. I noticed problems right off the bat when after i had installed the zip, i rebooted into recovery then it got stuck on the samsung logo and i had to pull the battery (a normal event when flashing this rom) So when i pulled the battery and booted into recovery to try again, the cwm recovery was terribly screwed up. The top half of the screen was pixelated, and the navigation menu was off center. I was still able to use cwm to flash the rom successfully, But cwm remains srewed up.
So i tried to reflash cwm recovery using rom manager. but when i rebooted i was stuck in a recovery boot-loop that i had to get out of using odin.
I then flashed the rom again using the same procedure suggested by its developer, and it worked, but cwm is still acting as it was before. (the pixelated top half of the screen and the off center navigation menu. )
So can i get some help? i thought about removing cwm the using some other recovery. I also heard that cwm wont work on ics, but im unsure what it is.
Thanks in advance.
You don't have Gingerbread bootloaders. That's why recovery looks the way it does.
You need to Odin or Heimdall back to Gingerbread stock (I find Heimdall much easier for this) and then flash Entropy's DD kernel to get back into red recovery to flash Infinitum.

Yeah, ICS recovery doesn't play nice with Froyo bootloaders.
AFAIK, there is no way to get Gingerbread bootloaders without reverting to stock. With Heimdall it's an incredibly simple, and quick process. I just had to do it myself a couple nights ago

Yeah...heimdal is the best way to get bootloaders...odin doesnt always do it and no custom rom includes them that i am aware of...
I had written detailed instructions for another person...ill try and find them and paste it here...
Also-dont use rom manager, that thing is known to cause bricks/bootloops so using it is asking for bad ju-ju lol

Have you tried flashing boot loaders?
Here is how to do it...
1) Download uclb3 heimdal by qckster
2) open the program
3) put phone in download mode
4) click flash (leave program open when finished DO NOT CLOSE)
5) after it finishes and your phone reboots, put the phone back in download mode and reconnect to PC
6) click flash bootloader on the heimdal program you left running
7) flash, let reboot and your problems should be gone
Download mode instructions
1) pull battery
2) put battery back in
3) hold volume up + down
4) connect phone to PC with USB cable *don't let go of volume*
Just because you were on gingerbread previously does nit mean you have ginger bread boot loaders...I had ginger bread since the first leaks and did not have boot loaders until a month or two ago when I flashed them using those steps above...
Good luck!

Thank you for posting the guide. I literally just got done flashing GB bootloaders to my Infuse because of the rainbow Recovery when I'm on ICS. I used Odin though and used GB loader that a member posted in the AOKP Uniporn thread. I was scared but there really isn't anything to be afraid of. I tried using Heimdall but dang that was nerve racking because I was trying to use it on Mac and it wouldn't let me do the flash.

Good deal, glad you got it sorted out. And to clear up some confusion that is in this thread: you don't have to flash an entire Gingerbread rom to get the bootloaders. We all have our preferred ways of doing it, but you CAN flash just the bootloaders.
Here is both a Heimdall and an Odin way to get JUST the bootloaders. That's all that is necessary for someone who has rainbow distortion issues on an ICS or Gingerbread rom.:
See the third post (HERE) in Entropy512's Unofficial CM9 thread for instructions on how to flash just the bootloaders using the Heimdall command line. Or, see the answer to question 1.) in the FAQ of the rooted UCLB3 Odin thread which is HERE.

Heimdall is one way to get the bootloaders, and here's how I did it.:
heimdall flash --primary-boot boot.bin --secondary-boot Sbl.bin
The second part of your statement isn't true. Odin doesn't do it only when the user can't figure out how to use Odin.
thank you everyone.
Being a creature of habit i ended up flashing to rom and bootloaders using odin. that did indeed fix CWM right up.
GB loader

I am trying to get those GB Bootloaders. Would you be able to provide them ? or to provide the AOKP Uniport thread ?

Unfortunately I haven't had this device for over 3 years now. You'll have to do some searching for that.
