[Q] do Samsung Galaxy S 4G work on at&t 4G? - Samsung Galaxy S (4G Model)

the title pretty much states my question, I am currently using unlock vibrant on at&t but i want to use the new galaxy 4g on at&t, does any 1 know if I will get 4g in USA or atleast in the west coast of USA for at&t or 3g?

danstheman7 is using a sgs4g on at&t. try pming him (lol. im not sure). he should know if its 3g or 4g

It works only on 3g and edge

'tis 3G, but either way AT&T's HSPA+ is practically the same speeds as their 3G.
Pretty much no difference.

I tried using AT&T just after unlocking my SGS 4G. It doesn't show anything better than a 3G speed. From my experience, no you cannot get 4G on the west coast in AT&T

T-mobile's going to upgrade 4G speeds to 42 Mbps

T-Mobile Makes America’s Largest 4G Network Even Faster by Lighting Up 42 Mbps Speed in Las Vegas, New York and Orlando
The Company’s Innovative 4G Device Portfolio Expands With Tablet, Mobile Broadband Devices and Smartphones, Including the T-Mobile G2x with Google
Orlando, Fla. and Bellevue, Wash. — Mar. 21, 2011 PDT
Today at the International CTIA Wireless 2011, T-Mobile USA, Inc. announced the expansion of its broad selection of consumer-ready 4G products, including the T-Mobile® G2x with Google™ which is built for speed and mobile entertainment. T-Mobile also announced the first major markets where it is doubling the speed of its 4G network to achieve a theoretical download speed of 42 Mbps. T-Mobile customers in Las Vegas, New York and Orlando, Fla., will be the first in the country to experience the increased 4G speed, followed closely by Chicago and further expansion of the New York network into Long Island, N.Y., and Northern New Jersey. By mid-year, T-Mobile expects 140 million Americans in 25 markets to have access to increased 4G speeds.

That new just cheered me up a little that we could theoretically get up to 42 Mbps 4G speeds. Can't wait to see how fast the speeds would be once they activate those speeds
No more upgrade to 42mbps why waist money let AT&T do the upgrade
Don't cheer too much yet, we need to wait a year. Also in a year AT&T will fully acquire T-Mobile and its networks. They paid the T-Mobile's owner 25BILLION up front. And AT&T will recieve the other 14BILLION from stock shares.
I heard on the news tonight that AT&T said that the T-Mobile users would have to get new phones to be able to use the 3G. Yes report said 3G. Looks like AT&T is planning to turn off the T-Mobile 4G and go with their 4G system. So this news of faster T-Mobile is not going to be good news for us T-Mobile customers.

Hmmm...would seem redundant due to tmos larger 4g network and since they're both gsm networks there shouldn't be an issue.

Yeah, i read on several sites that att is going to turn off the tmo 3g bands and convert it to theirs. I guess once the merger is complete it will render all tmo 3g/4g useless once they turn it off. At least us with 4g can enjoy faster speeds before att shuts it down.

I read that at&t is shutting down the 3g band but u can still access the 4g bands since it will be the same at as at&t's..

Can you cite any reliable sources that say our phones will be useless? According to t-mo, they will work fine...

Here is one link. ATT want current T-Mobile "4G" spectrum for LTE. GSM will continue to work on TMO phones the way I read it.
http://www.engadget.com/2011/03/21/confirmed-atandt-wants-to-use-t-mobiles-aws-spectrum-for-lte-bui/
Att is looking to add frequencies to their new phones coming out. That way they can free up some of the congestion. If you think about it....killing off the tmo 4g would be stupid. Heck we only get 2g where I live now. Do you really need 3g or 4g? Nope I get plenty of wifi when out and about! Failed attempt by att as far as I'm concerned.

I highly doubt they will turn off T-Mobiles 4G it would be a disadvantage to service and a useless expense.
sent from my icy cold glacier!
this would be great if i was getting drastically higher speeds on my mt4g. I get maybe 1 mb higher (on avg) than a non hspa+ device. so i dont care if it is 100mpbs im not seeing any huge speed boost in my HSPA+ area (miami, fl)
Quick question, doesn't the nexus s have the same bandwidths as t-mobile AND at&t? If so, the nexus s it is.

The only thing I'm worried about is at&ts plans. Once my contract is up having to switch to there worthless plans is bs. I got unlimited everything right now.

[Q] Can GS 4G do TMo & ATT 3G?

Hi, am leaving Sprint. Looking to get a used phone (no contract), that will work on monthly plans like TMo prepaid, Straight Talk (ATT)) w/out a contract. I'm reading good things about both the older Vibrant (SGH-T959), and the newer 4g (SGH-T959V). It's clear from my research that people are successuflly unlocking and able to go back and forth between TMo and ATT SIMs on the older Vibrant. What isn't clear to me is can this be done on the newer SGH-T959V?
Again, I don't care much about 4g. 3g on AT&T is fine. But while on TMo, the 4G would be nice.
Thanks!

Thanks Brandon. I will then pick up a used, older SGH-T959 (Vibrant), unlock it, and then enjoy the 3g flexibility of both ATT & TMo. It's strange, the T959V is supposed to support the same ATT 3g band as the regular T959, but I can't find proof of this anywhere.

Yes, I also can confirm the 959V (T-Mobile 4g) is 3g on ATT and is very fast.

I have SGS4G and am using ATT. I have 3G with no issues...
posted original question here by accident
I am using unlocked 4g on Cincinnati Bell wireless and the 3g works fine.
However I have not been able to get 4g at all on my phone. When I put a Tmobile sim in it works fine one 4g.
I get a little over 2 mbps download on Cincinnati Bell 3g.
You can just unlock it, I'm using mine on att right now. Only thing is you have a backup sync for T-Mobile instead of att.

Yes it can.
I tried my friend's AT&T sim card and it worked with 3G.
Hmm, has anybody gotten 4G on this phone with AT&T?
Does 4G work with an unlocked SGS 4G on AT&Ts network?
no.

3G on AT&T will only work one one of the two UMTS bands: 1900 MHz.
Note that the Vibrant 4G doesn't have the 850MHz band (the other band that AT&T uses for 3G data.)
I've seen a posting that there's a way to activate the 850MHz band, but I have not verified that this works. If anyone has got this working so you're working on both bands on AT&T with your Vibrant 4G, let me know.
As an addendum to my own post, looks like the consensus is that while the Vibrant has an option of selecting the 850MHz UMTS band, it actually doesn't enable anything:

Unlocked infuse with tmobile on att band

I have a question for anyone to anwser. I have an unlocked infuse on tmobile service. We all know that the phone will only get 3G because tmobile and att use different bands. I recently was playing with the network setting and had the option to pick tmobile or att network. Well I pick the att network to see what it would do. Sure enough, I'm on atts network getting faster speeds. My question is what happends if I leave it on this setting? Will I get crazy charges from tmobile?

Are u sure u get 3G speed on tmobile ?
What i know tmobile uses 1700 for 3G and infuse does not have that band on ......I may be wrong.
Not sure. I do know when I'm on tmobie settings the data icon says G and E from time to time. And when I'm on the att setting it says H. And my speeds are faster

As you know, the AT&T and T-Mobile merger failed. As part of the agreement, the two companies have entered a roaming agreement where-in T-Mobile's customers can roam on AT&T's 1900Mhz 3G network as long as the phone supports that frequency.
You may want to contact T-Mobile if you're concerned about excessive roaming on AT&T.
t-mobile is "refarming" with 1900mhz support. So you might be the lucky one.
Curious, what city/state are you in?
I'm in lewiston maine

He's wrong. It'll run on their H+ network, but that's all. However ATT's H+ mind you is very congested in a lot of places (NYC especially), but it will run.

I have a Blaze running on NET10 using the AT&T sim card. I can achieve H+ with it, and from time to time it shows me 3G then goes to H+ real quick.
I am able to get (depending on where I am here in Central Indiana) 1-2Mbps with H+ and in other areas I get 12Mbps with H+. Here at the house I show H+ with 3 bars right now and get 1.75Mbps down and 0.42Mbps with a ping of 148ms to a speed test site just 16 miles up the road.
I do have to say it is much better then Tmobile here, I was lucky to get 0.17kbps either way on Edge.
I can tell you that it will help you if you go into your settings and select mobile networks then mobile operators and set yourself to AT&T Network only, let me know if this helps any, it did for me. It has kept me from trying to hit Tmobile towers since I am on NET10 which uses both tmobile and att.

GS II Skyrocket: Can't be able to use 2G or 3G

Hey, does GS II Skyrocket have only 4G?? I tried looking for using only 3G or at least 2G but I can't find a way... My samsung was originaly from AT&T but I bought it Brand New Unlocked in Amazon... No matter what I try I can't have 3G! It's not that I don't like 4G, but the thing is... There is no 4G in my country!! I'm from Argentina using Claro. I need a quick answer please, everytime I want to use 3G I can't and the fake 4G of Claro takes away all my credit for calling and texting...
ANY help is appreciated!!
It's just a logo. But it's actually running on 3g. it's utms or HSPA+.
it depends on what your country offers.
Oh thank you a lot!
