[Q] [WM6]SIP on Cingular 8525 stuck at "Internet Calling: Available" - General Questions and Answers

My Cingular 8525 (HTC Hermes w/o front-facing camera) running WM6 on a stock Cingular ROM isn't enabling the built-in SIP functions in WM6 correctly. I filled out the _setup.xml as per the "SIP calling in WM6" guide, packaged it into a CAB using CabArc, installed it on the device, and did a soft reset. When I did so, I got "Internet Calling: Service Blocked" on my Today screen. So, After trying again a number of times (making sure to delete Prov0SIPSettings between tries), I got the same message half of the time, and "Internet Calling: Available" the other half. I'm still unable to make SIP calls. I tried with the _setup.xml my brother used to [successfully] enable VoIP on his AT&T Tilt (HTC Kaiser w/o front-facing camera) running WM6, but to no avail. I'd like to not use a 3rd-party SIP client (the phone's got barely any RAM). Is there something I'm doing wrong? Does the 8525/Hermes have known problems with WM6 and the SIP functions?
EDIT: Apparently I inadvertently used the wrong access password for SIP Sorcery. Sorry for sounding so stupid.
PS: Here's my _setup.xml. I've removed the password. It was supposed to connect to the SIP Sorcery SIP provider to provide Google Voice connectivity (the phone doesn't have a SIM or cellular service, and is running solely off of Wi-fi).

Blackberry Connect on Cingular Treo 750, successful anyone ?

Hi
Did anyone figure out why BB Connect is not working on the Cingular Treo 750 ? I have downloaded the client and the desktop app. and I am not able to make it work. Yes, my account has been provisioned w/ Blackberry capabilities. Yes, I have read all possible threads about this, including the ones for the cingular 8525 (BTW, a colleague of mine w/ 8525, same plan as me, works w/ BBC just fine, this is why I believe it is a Treo)
Now, here's what I get:
- BB Connect Desktop: when trying to connect to the BES server (4.1 w/ Lotus Notes), in the PIN field I get "Unknown type"; my BES guys here weren't able to give me any reasons for that, logs look clean etc.
- on the Treo: the BBConnect client shows as stopped, comes back to this status after attempting to start it. Does that no matter if I am connected or not to the Internet. Yes, I have disabled the proxy setting for Cingular Internet. I tried also both connectivity options, the built-in one (wap....) and also isp... with the same results.
Anyone w/ more clues for this
TIA,
HC
I've gotten a bit further, but still not working
I have pretty much the same setup as above ... though I am now running the vodafone ROM instead of the cingular. Also, for reference, my BBConnect software is version 4.0.0.62.
My results are that I can get the Status screen to display "Service: Data Tunnel Available" and at the same time on the Identity screen I get an IP address in the 10.x.x.x range, but my PIN still stays at "Pending" no matter what I have tried.
Does anyone know how the PIN is generated for BBConnect? Is it just a hash from the IMEI or an IMEI/SIM hash?
Hi,
Thanks for pointing out the version, I missed that . On my Treo I have on Settings -> Blackberry -> about: Blackberry version: 2.1.2.31, Transport Version: <nothing here>, System Version: 228.58.98.115, Device Type: Palm_Treo_750-GPRS
My BBConnect Desktop for Windows Mobile is: 2.1.1.18
They are both from the BBCVoda.zip archive circulating the forums.
Anyone w/ a hint ?
tsawyer, you are more advanced than me, I see that you have the Data tunnel available and an IP address. Try to use the BBC Desktop for Win Mobile instead of the BBConnect. Where did you get that piece of software, v 4.0.0.62 anyway ?
TIA,
HC
BBC Desktop and v4 BBConnect
I've tried the BBConnect Desktop for WM and I had the same results ... Pin shows "Unknown type" and trying to connect to the device results in a "PIN Code = 0" error, presumably because the device has not generated it's own pin number yet.
I received the BBCv4 software directly from RIM, which had been distributed as part of their beta program. Unfortunately, I was not able to be part of the actual beta program, and this have no feedback from RIM on this issue.

GPRS/EDGE fails to connect to Cingular

My 8125 has been SIM/CID unlocked and I've loaded numerous WM6 ROMs and currently have CROSSBOW RELOADED running. Never a problem (well maybe a few !!) flashing Faria's Roms or others. Thanks for all the GREAT ROM work!! I also have a ROM Kitchen ROM version I loaded too!!
The ONE issue I have is that the GPRS/EDGE data connection refuses to connect. I live in area with EDGE but I fail to see the E or G icon pop up EVER. When the modem tries to dial the G icon appears briefly but I get the "no connection...." message.
WiFi and Bluetooth work like a champ on all ROMs loaded.
I thought that this behavior might be caused by Radio ROM and I've loaded the following with same results: 2.40.11, 2.47.11, and currently have 2.19.11 running. I also went back to Cingular 2.25.11 without success.
At one point I flashed back to the button 1.05 in hopes of cleaning stuff out! I then upgraded to stock Cingular 2.25 and same problem. No data connect. I then when ahead and flashed up to WM6 (Crossbow_reloaded).
Yes, I have a $20/mo Cingular data plan and I'm using the standard WAP settings for Cingular.
What am I missing???
Appreciate your help!!

Hmmm. Sorry to ask such a question, but does it do it when you're unplugged from the USB cable?
Under Start - Settings - Connections - Connections - Advanced - Select Networks, did you try both My ISP and MEdia Net?
Try these cabs if you haven't already:
Thanks for your suggestions. Yes, I'm disconnected from USB while testing data connection.
I ran both of the cabs you included in response, but no help.
Any other thoughts?
Thanks,
I have wondered if there is a chance that some flag is set in the SIM that is preventing my connection. Anyone have experience here?
THX,
I've never had an issue with GPRS/EDGE after running either of the cabs above. I'm curious if you were to go back to the stock Cingular rom if it would all start working, or if there is some other issue going on here.
Also, for Cingular, if you are running WM6, don't even attempt to use any radio other than T-Mo 2.19 UK. Newer ones just seem to cause problems on the Cingular network with WM6.
I believe I have flashed back to stock Cingular 2.25 with this: (RUU_Wizard_225111_22511102_022511_CWS_WWE_Ship_1).
I get same symptoms. I tried both "MY ISP" and "MEDIA Net" network settings with same results. I ran the cabs sent in this thread a couple of days ago too.
Specifically, I start IE and enter a web address and tap the green arrow to open the page. The little G appears w/moving arrows in the top bar and the info box says "Connecting to: Cingular GPRS". It stops and tries again and eventually the info box says: "Cannot connect: Dialed wap.cingular. There is no modem at this number".
Anything else to try?
Appreciate your help!

I found a related thread at the Cingular forums:

According to prubin (poster in the above thread), Cingular discovers you are on the wrong plan for your PDA and automatically disables your access. I don't know how true that is, but it may be time for a call to Cingular to verify your connection and plan.

Not true at all.
The only reason they disable the accounts has nothing to do with the device, but the amount of data usage.
Those yahoos were probably using > 500mb of data a month, or something insane that threw the flag.
Cingular doesn't care what type of device you have. It's just a marketing gimmick for them.
Yeah if you can't connect on the stock Cingular rom (the extended rom configuration will set all the GPRS and MMS stuff up for you so its ready to go) then you need to call Cingular, as its either them blocking you (not sure how they would do that really) or your phone has an issue. Be prepared, it seems Cingular will do some basic troubleshooting and then they'll offer to ship you a new phone. They don't take much time to really look into why a problem happens if its not very basic. I had a question about MMS messages and after a couple of minutes they were ready to ship me a replacement phone. I just laughed at how dumb that was. I let them note it in my account so I can get a future replacement very easily, but declined at the time.
A guy I work with has had Cingular replace (warranty exchange) his 8125 3 or 4 times now (he gets a scratch on it, so he calls and tells them some feature doesn't work)... Sheesh.

And people wonder why it costs so much for a phone - I'm paying for those replacements!!!

Yep, I totally agree. But the cell companies don't seem to discourage it either.

WM6 SIP Config for 3G on At&T Tilt

I have literaly spend the last 2 days (getting very little sleep) trying to get my new AT&T Tilt phone to use the WM6 built in SIP functionality.
At one point i was able to make and receive calls with the phone registered to a Nortel MCS 5100 Sip Server. i even had blutooth, and 2 way voice working. i have downloaded and tried all the cabs i could find, read through all the posts, etc.
the one thing i have NOT been able to get working is SIP over 3G. i have tried it with wap.cingular, isp.cingular, with the proxy enabled, the proxy disabled. did the registry hacks, etc.
has anyone gotten the Tilt to do SIP over 3G?

SIP VoIP phone on Apache afer WM6 upgrade

Hello Friends,
HTC Apache
Upgraded ROM ver: 3.60.70 WWE
Have recently upgraded to the latest WM6 ROM. The main purpose was to get my voip phone working. This is what i did and what i ended up with:
1). Flashed the ROM with the Helmi's default options + Voip phone
Results: The upgrade went perfectly fine and i even had the 'VoIP setup" option in my Programs. I set up all the settings. (The only special thing is that my proxy and registrar address is an ip address xx.xx.xxx.xx:9060 with port number instead of a domain name). I turned the voip settings to 'Whenever available' and connected to my wifi.
I DO NOT SEE INTERNET PHONE ON MY TODAY PAGE AND ALSO WHEN I TRY TO CALL IT CONNECTS ME VIA MY TELECOM SERVICE INSTEAD OF ROUTING MY CALL VIA MY VOIP SERVICE PROVIDER.
2). Flashed the ROM again and this time did not choose Voip pone in HELMI'S rom. After the phone was upgraded, installed the wm6voip.cab and he sipsetup.cab and i start seeing the voip setup icon in programs. The result is the same i.e.
I DO NOT SEE INTERNET PHONE ON MY TODAY PAGE AND ALSO WHEN I TRY TO CALL IT CONNECTS ME VIA MY TELECOM SERVICE INSTEAD OF ROUTING MY CALL VIA MY VOIP SERVICE PROVIDER.
Someone else with the same problem???? What did you do???
Does voip phone work with Helmi's upgrade?????
Will consider myself fortunate if Helmi can clear this up please....
it is a very picky process... but it will work.
even when you configure it right the first time, it wont seem to engage the first time when available.
here is what i have done to get it working...
configure the setup and save... make sure it is set to "whenever available" as you have done.
after saving, soft reset.
turn on your wi-fi
go into voip config again and just save (without any changes)
go to your phone dialer...
now, instead of sprint / or verizon... you will see the name of the VOIP provider you gave (assuming it is able to connect to that provider)
when dialing, hold your phone backwards... sound comes out the rear speaker and is very quiet.

Skype on VDA V (HTC 710 from Vodaphone)

Hi,
I tried to use Skype on my VDA V (Vodafone branding / SDA appl. unlock). Installing is no problem, but if I try to call (Echo and Sound test) then Skype tell "connecting", then ringing (rings one time) and then Skype switch of.
Under Menu Settings / Telephone / Internettelefonie (german/ means Voip) I have switch on "ever if available".
Is it a special Vodaphone problem, that Vodaphone ROM is not allowing Voip (I think Vodaphone would like that user call about Vodaphone net) ???
Can you help me ?
Regards Odiad
GPRS settings maybe?

I'm using the same config as you do, but in the Netherlands Vodafone.
Did you run the Vodafone setup (downloadable .exe) for provider configuration? (or do it manually thru the information on the Vodafone website).
When connected thru WIFI I have no problems. Using GPRS I sometimes first need to "create" the connection manually (by opening a page in IE or other internet needing program)
Make sure you downloaded the latest skype mobile for the S710. The "general" version doesn't work for me, probably 'cause of the firmware.
Hopefully these were the things you were looking for.
HI Syserror,
I ve just downloaded newest version of skype (2.5 Beta). But when I try to use skype I see same behavior. I see my Skype contacts (that means I am connected with skype and with my account) and I tried calling echo/sound test service and there was stiil the same probelm (connecting, one times ringing, and then Skype switches off.
So version of skype is not the reason why it doesn't work. I am connected with wifi (my home WLAN router, I can go into internet without problems, or get my Emails - so WLAN is okay). Any other ideas??
regards Odiad

HTC 710/ VDA V (Vodafon) with branding, bujt with sda appl. unlock
Hi,
it's me again. I googled a little bit and found a link to skype 2.2.0.18 which should run on VDA V. I tried and yes it runs. Or I hope so - I tried only echo/sound test service because I have no money on my skye account. But echo and sound test runs well, I think it is okay now.
