Hi Guys ... and Gals,
Am thinking of getting a TF for my wife ... 16GB without the dock.
The experience I have with Android is ... well, pleasant! I use the Nexus S.
Well, since I'm using the Nexus S, I would be interested to know if the TF comes with the original Honey Comb that can be updated directly from Google or if I would have to wait for updates from ASUS.
Yes I know all things are possible with a root, but:
a) I don't want to be messing with her tablet everytime.
b) I think the ASUS keyboard with the numbers on the top line is nice. Is it available as a separate download? Is it available for the mobile too?
I'm currently on holiday and would like to buy it so ... before I move back to is there any particular problems I should look out for?
Thanks for any help
Updates happen through Asus. Though they seem to be on time with them.
I think all tablet updates come from the manufacturer

Thanks both
So, the only way to get newer versions IF Asus start behaving like HTC or Samsung is to root it and put in a custom rom! Fine ... no probs. Atleast while the going is good, we don't have to worry.
Any known problems I have to look out for before a purchase?
Thanks again.

It's not the known problems you should be concerned about, but the unknown ones.
Get a newer model. Serial code should start with B60xxxxxxxxxxx. B40 is original. B50 middle.
I have a B50 and its nice. Other then that be on the look out for screen bleed. iPad2s have bleed just like everyone else. Some are extreme. Most are barely noticeable. Just keep an eye out.

Asus made some subtle changes ( icons on the status bar) but asus was the first company to push out the 3.1 update ( after the xoom )
Thanks ... guess that will help
It's normal that the update come from the manufacturer.
Asus must have to include the specific drivers for it's tablet (not all the hardware is the same, even if the main platform is based on Tegra2)
It also made few modifications for apps integration and visuals.

The Xoom was only first in the US, everywhere else the Transformer got 3.1 before the Xoom. Actually the Xoom only has 3.1 in US, Australia,Japan and China.
it just has a few mods (buttons + some widgets and wallpapers)

Hi everyone,
I have my eeepad transformer preordered to buy the 32 or 16 GB model, still don't know which one will be the first one...
But, I know that the galaxy tab 10.1 will be upgradeable to android 3.1, and the same happens with the xoom, but, will our future (or current) eeepad transformer see this android version? I'm only saying it because if android 3.1 won't appear on the eeepad, I think the best thing we could do is to buy the galaxy tab
Thanks in advance

Really? who said 3.1 will not be on the Asus???? It will come but we dont have a eta......but yeah if you really need 3.1 then you should get Xoom on Verizon it was launch the other day. Or you could get the tab 10.1 without the sd slot and hdmi port

Yes the GTab is upgradable but when will samsung do it?
Samsung are notoriously slow at upgrading anything!!! plus the GTab has touchwiz which will take more to time for the developers at samsung to get it ready.
If you really want to be negative, maybe google will have an unexpected downturn within the current economic climate and go broke, then all of us will have obsolete devices and we're be forced to buy ipads or windows tablets
I seem to remember reading on another thread that Asus support said that 3.1 would be available on June.
Check this video of the Xoom running HC 3.1
It looks really fast and much more functional.

I think it's possible, but is there any reason? The official update will come in mid June, less than a month left. And it's possible someone will leak it before.

Edit: nevermind just found it... Deutschland...the one word I didnt try. They certainly do reply a lot more often on there it seems.
Mid June for 3.1 is good news. Thanks for the update
juhuuu good news, also in mid June there should be transformer available in Slovakia. So 1 month of waiting to a judgement day for me

The triangle is for when there is an update file detected on the tablet.
Good to see they already have a version they are happy to distribute to regional sales and support teams - means it is stable enough to have internal testing.

I'm trying to get a feel with Netflix & Android tablets - and so far - I'm starting to have doubts that it'll ever be available on the Tegra 2 tablet.
My understanding is it's a security - hardware issue - to keep people from stealing / ripping netflix content - that's keeping the barn doors shut. Or perhaps Android has their own plans to monetize Google Movies. But as more time goes by - I'm less optimistic about getting Netflix on an android tablet.
Any thoughts - or is there something recent that I've missed re: Netflix coming out on this tablet - or others in the near future?
Thanks
If it does come to an Android tablet, it'll still be very much SD quality. Look at the iPad.

not sure of resolution or bit rate data on the netflix stream to an ipad, but it's pretty damn good quality on that screen.
i'd love to have it on my transformer... and my fascinate.... but i guess i have it on my xboxes, my ipad, and my X so i cant complain too much.
i'd really like it on the transformer though, especially with the HDMI out.

Tried every way possible and can't get it to work. If someone does get it working I would love to know how. As far as making it to tegra 2 tablets im sure it will make it eventually. NVIDIA has a big presence and it would make their chips more attractive if they had Netflix support.
The evo got it,and as far as i can recall Netflix said it wouldn't since the evo has no dem support on the chip. That apparently changed as they settled for software drm. Recently it was removed when the gingerbread update officially launched for the evo, but prior to that it worked fine on cm7 which is aosp gb. My guess is it will probably come in time.

Not on Tegra 2 Honeycomb devices.
I am really anxious to get it on my tablet as well. But I can wait since I have it on everything else that I own.

It does work on tegra 2 tablets. I have had it working on a viewsonic gtablet for over a month.
Rumors say the Lenovo IdeaPad K1 has Netflix preinstalled.

So the problem is a Honeycomb issue and not a Tegra 2 issue? Then maybe there is hope. Has anyone gotten it working on other Tegra 2 Gingerbread devices?

Yep, had it working on the gtab as well.
I guess the issue here is not the Tegra but the Honeycomb and Netflix.

Xoom has Gingerbread hidden if you up your screen dpi settings, I wonder if it works on it. But seeing how unusable the GB is on the Xoom in that environment I doubt it is of benefit here.
The problem isn't Tegra 2, it's HoneyComb. Netflix simply hasn't gotten around to making a version compatible with HoneyComb.
Let's face it, until the TF came out, the HoneyComb tablet market was tiny.
Netflix is working on many android phones including my Nexus One. In fact the quality is great, especially compared to Slingbox. I think it is just a matter of time before Honeycomb gets Netflix, there are just too many Honycomb/Tegra 2 units being sold for them to loose that market.

Do you still have it working? I am running Vegan Tab rom and have never had it fully functional, use it as a que manager but unable to watch. I have been using a home server software, Playon, for the past 2 years and it works good to watch Netflix. It also gives me access to other content and I can also watch videos that are on my home computer. But I would still like to be able to use the Netflix app.
Netflix worked on my Archos 101. Kind of missing it right now since the TF has no netflix.

Still works on mine. I am using cyanogen mod though.
Well, it's certainly not specific to Honeycomb and Tegra 2. The Samsung Epic, for example, still doesn't have an official Netflix app, and it's neither Honeycomb nor Tegra 2. And I'm sure there are still more Android devices that don't have Netflix than do...

How did you get it to work on TF? Please post up, as I'm anxiously awaiting NF on my TF, as are many others!!!
I was happy to see that worms was compatible after the 3.2 update, but after I bought it and tried to start it, I get an error message saying unsupported device...
Seems very strange that Android marks it as compatible but as soon as you start the app it says unsupported... :/
Any fix for this ?
You have to download the additional data from a compatible smartphone then copy the folder in the Transformer
And if I don't own an Android phone ??

HA contacting them solves nothing..
Have written them several mails, and have yet to receive a single answer..!
Extremely lousy customer service on their part, and ****ty support as well.
curious. I unzipped the sdcard content(com.ea.worms_na) to the root of my microSD and the root of "sdcard" just in case but when i launch worms it still prompts me to download the package then automatically sends me to a eamobile customer service site.
anyone have any input on this?
the com.ea.worms_na folder needs placed in the /Android/data folder on the internal SD card, then it should see it fine.
The game is pretty fun, I've been side loading it since I got it for my old D1 back when it came out. Not as many weapons as some of the older computer versions, pretty similar to the PSP version that came out (Armeggedon? I think)
Controls are a little wonky on some of the things, but once you get used to it, its easy.

Hey guys,
Just wondering if any of the devs would like to implement this open source project. If anyone that doesn't know what this is, Cornerstone enables you to run apps simultaneously onscreen. This would enhance the productivity and notebook feel of our devices. I'm no dev so I am unaware if this will be easy to implement, but I hope someone will like to take on this task.

This is actually *very* old news. The ROMS that did incorporate this functionality had huge stability issues and really don't even update it anymore (at least on the ROM's I've seen). It's really DOA, in my opinion....
However, there *are* quite a few "floating" (windowed) apps available for Android that really work well. Here is a sampling of them (all available on Play Store):
- OverSkreen (Web Browser) - absolutely awesome - even supports Flash.
- AirCalc - calculator
- Stick-It - Video player
- AirTerm- Terminal emulator
- HoverNote - Simple note-taking
There are others as well - much better than Cornerstone, in my opinion.

Ok do you think we will ever see something like the split screen functions on the new samsung tabs come to our devices? And i wasn't saying its new or anything, just wondering if it's possible to implement and if it could run smoothly. Is it because it's just in beta or does the whole project not work out right.

The idea is nice, but it's difficult to implement. I ran a cornerstone enabled rom on my Xoom (EOS ICS nightlies) but no matter what I did, I had to keep going back to the non-cornerstone implementation. Probably because I prefer to use a third party launcher...the small windows kept freezing and the tab would eventually become unusable.
But I +1,000,000 on the floating apps...they add true multitasking capacity to android. Check them out.

+1 on that. I ran the EOS cornerstone builds on the TF201 for and there were always problems. The devs would always say that the problems were not of their making (i.e. there are issues with Cornerstone). I have to say that they were right since their regular builds were flawless. Cornerstone is a great idea but it is just too buggy.
Regardless, I think we are getting a little ahead of ourselves. Maybe when we actually have some non-stock roms then someone will consider making a Cornerstone build.
BTW, this should have been posted in General or Q&A

I was able to restore all my apps from a Galaxy S II to the TF700 just fine, so you should be ok as well. Some app data might not be compatible however so unless you have to have your save data I'd suggest just restoring the apps and not the data to be safe.

I have been debating to get the TF700 for some time, I currently have a 2 yr old tablet from Viewsonic and it's on JB but runs slow. I have heard about Samsung creating a P10 tablet with a resolution closest to the iPad. My question is; is the screen resolution that noticable and how important do you feel it is in the purchase of a tablet? I am an android junkie but I like the latest hardware. Will there be any dual boot Android / Windows tablets from Asus? There are two reasons why I am thinking of Asus over Samsung:
1. Updates to the OS are quicker
2. Screen resolution is higher on Infinity over any other tablet right now (but will this change in Oct?)
Thanks for your input!

First the P10 sounds very nice but if you go by rumors you'll be playing the waiting game forever. I chose the infinity because it had all the features I was looking for now from a manufacturer that provides the speediest updates by keeping it stock compared to the others, one of the reasons why I chose this over samsung. The resolution is great, I read a lot of comics and webpages and everything looks much crisper on this screen, and the brightness alone is insane. I'm sure we'll have dual boot options in the future. I read somewhere that Tegra 3 would be compatible with W8 so there should be no reason why an unlocked Infinity couldn't boot it (another plus for the large upgradable memory options). I'd say go for it!
The infinity was a waiting game haha

The Samsung p10 will be a great tablet but the infinity will still be the best for watching movies. Also, I'm not too sure even the exynos can push 2560x1600. Expect not to do any 3d gaming on it.
