hey guys.
I haven't seen any mention as to how to change the splash screen. i've searched in these forums. i've searched in google. not only have I not found instructions and many custom splash screens (as I'm used to on the Evo and my WinMo phones from back in the day) but I haven't even found another thread in any other forum asking this same question?!?!
can anyone please shed some light on why we haven't changed the splash screen, and perhaps also why nobody seems to be asking this question i'm asking now?
Ok what's a splash screen?
We've got boot animations, lockscreens and wallpapers. I've never heard of splash screens on an android device.
splash screens are the first screen you see before the boot animation plays. in the Xoom that is the red M motorola logo.
on the Evo it's the HTC logo. that's always been changeable. i believe in the evo it was fastboot flash splash splashfile.rgb565. i've got many many custom ones made
First off this is a question. So guess where it should be posted?
But to answer you question, we can not write to the partition that houses the logo.img that is used for the "red m" logo you speak of.
already had a talk with one of the Tiamat team members and they explained the exact state of things...too bad it was after hours of online research and searching through the github on the incorrect suggestion that on honeycomb tablets the splash was hardcoded into the kernel.
at this point the Tiamat guys have been able to decrypt the image and create their own, but can't write to the logo partition like you said.
why did they move away from the simple splash1 rgb565 partition used in froyo?
Q moved to Q&A, since it was already answered. Thread closed.

Hi All
Hopefully a quick one this...
I am getting more into customising my device and am planning to hack my own ROM at some point onto my device. Starting off with some UC components which are working well, but I would like to learn more about how splash screens work on the kaiser.
I have successfully managed to replace the very first splash using a custom .NBH file and RUU, but would love to learn (if) how I can do the others. For example my current ROM which is Duttys displays the animated HTC logo with the custom wording on it "Dutty,s Series" AFTER the one I have flashed to my device. It then displays the green Windows Mobile Splash before finally getting to the OS GUI.
Is it possible to either remove or replace these two screens at all?

I think one of them is welcomehead.96.png and one is called animated.gif. Both in \Windows\
You have to enable the animated one (there's a setting in scahps Advanced Config for this).
This been asked and answered wery many times, whit some searching you can find it all and more...
The first one is startup animation wich you find in the register:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\StartupAnimation]
"GIFFile"="\\Windows\\animated.gif"
Click to collapse
The file can be of variouse names, animated.gif, animated1.gif or something completly diffrent so look for the one unders GIFFile.
Click and refresh for animation
The secound is the splashscreen wich is under
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Splash Screen]
"CarrierBitmap"="\\windows\\welcomehead.96.png"
Click to collapse
Also that name can be diffrent..
For an easy way use Advance Config Tool By schaps and SEARCH before asking.
Good luck.
alright i installed something stupid on my g1 in an atempt to unlock the phone. it modified my bootloader and now when i turn it on it displays the t mobile g1 screen for like a second then displays a black DNA picture, then boots normaly.
i want to remove this image so i was thinking about reinstalling the bootloader, how do i know what one i have so i know what to replace, and should this be the right path to take
things i do know
im using cyanogen
im drc83 (idk what that means)
First this prob belongs in the Q&A section. Some more details about what exact file you flashed would help
my apologies, im new to the forums. i will admit it was a stupid decision to try this in the first place,
i have a url but it wont let me post it. that is where i got it from
If it displays just that picture & then boots normally your fine. I don't have the original splash file, but just look up how to use custom splash screens & find the original file & flash it. Boom, back to normal
Hi all,
After getting very frustrated with out-of-space messages on my UK HTC Desire (Virgin Mobile) I've been getting it ready for flashing with a custom rom, probably something like Gingerburst.
Anyhow. Today (after a lot of reading; I assure you!) I used Unrevoked to root my device - that went painlessly. I had imagined that I wanted s-off so was a little surprised when it didn't do it. The plan is now to use AlphaRev to sort out the s-on/s-off issue - only I don't want their Joker splash screen.
I actually quite like my stock HTC (white, no quietly brilliant) and black Virgin Media splash screens. Is there a way to back this up so I can restore it after I've AlphaRev'd it?
I hope so! Thanks in advance for your help. Apologies if this is a repeat; I did search fairly extensively and didn't manage to find anyone doing the same thing - or trying to.
(Out of interest do I really need s-off to get the most out of rooting and flashing custom roms? If not, I'll probably leave it!)
Thanks!
Smii
Some more in-depth and circuitous searching has turned up a chap who used a linux program (name escapes me) to unpack the boot.img file from the nandroid backup and push a particular file (his wifi settings) back up to his phone.
If I was to a) get a handle on the exact methodology and b) find out where in the boot.img file the splash screen is, I suppose I could conceivably do the same? Run AlphaRev 1.8, then push my original splash over the top? Hopefully it wouldn't undo the s-off.
Can anyone confirm that the splash screen is included in the nandroid backup?
I'd like to get back to the original splash screen for my HTC Sensation. I searched the forums, and found several threads detailing how to replace/edit the original images. I just want the original boot image back. Can anyone provide this?
It's in the Splash Screen's thread. It's buried in the middle somewhere, but you will find it in there.

think its the Pyramid ZIp but i haven't tested it myself http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16198537&postcount=19
I have looked for a considerable amount of time and still cant get this down, I changed roms to a Sense rom, and it changed my splash screen, which was fine but now I went back to cyannogen, with a full wipe and the splash screen didnt revert to the original sensation one, I would like it to go back, any ideas on where I could get the file and how to flash it exactly would be great, I am very noobish with this stuff so any kindness would be greatly appreciated, I am not saying this hasnt been covered, Im just saying that I in my efforts have been unable to find the information, please and Thank you.
In post 6 there are instructions on how to flash a Splashscreen.
There is also a link in the post on how to make a Splashscreen.
I am sorry but I do not have the stock Splashscreen

There is one roaming in one of these threads somewhere.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Coredroid V5.1

Hi,
Check HERE
If you want the stock htc splash then you can download this:
http://db.tt/3FSojp5f
You can run a script from terminal to flash any created splash:
Code:
dd if=/mnt/sdcard/[COLOR="Red"]your splash file[/COLOR] of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14
Change the "your splash file" to whatever you've named your splash, and make sure you type everything correctly. If you mistype the block you stand a chance of writing to the wrong partition, which would be very bad.
