After trying numerous versions... Is there a busybox that completely runs without errors on the Xoom?
1.18.4
Sent from my Xoom
What are you trying to do? Did you download the Busybody app? Are you getting errors?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
With 1.18.4 as an example "cp file1 file2" throws an error, "can't stay first file, too large for data type."

Thanx noobnl, works fine with Quickboot and Root Manager
Verified here... thanks
was a little finicky with ROM manager the first couple of times for me, this might help with ROM manager:
make sure you're rooted first
Flash ClockworkMod Recovery from ROM Manager menu
Also, on any DK05 rom you should be able to use the one click root installer, then you can reboot without the 3 button death hold in any of the following ways:
via adb: adb reboot recovery
via QuickBoot
And even Root Manager
EXCELLENT job noobnl. This made my night =]

When I click "reboot to recovery" in rom manager it does nothing, doesn't even try to reboot. I'm using the quantum rom.

Have you granted superuser.apk permission? You need to go into command prompt on your computer (while connected by usb with debugging enabled) and type adb shell and su at the $ prompt, then superuser will ask for permission on your phone and you should get a # prompt.

If I try to use the terminal for anything it returns "<command>: permission denied". This occurs with any terninal emulator I use. Will I have to make a call to busybox for everything?
Sent from my Cyanogen R800x using the XDA app.
seems that your root method doesnt work properly.Just try another one
Did you not see that I'm using cm? the ROM comes rooted.
Sent from my Cyanogen R800x using the XDA app.
hm two ideas.
- root permission is not being granted correctly
- busybox not installed correctly
Should I reinstall bb then?

This was addressed earlier. My rom COMES rooted, so I don't need to root it.
Also, When I try installing BB (using one of the BB installers) it says that the same version was already installed. Does this mean that I need to UNinstall it first? Wait for the next version of BB? :/
Try rebooting into clockworkmod recovery and going to advanced>fix permissions. Then reboot and go back to terminal and type su. If you still get permission denied, uninstall busybox the push it back to the phone via adb. Let me know how it goes.

Why do I have to use adb? Wouldn't I just be able to use the installer?
Sent from my Cyanogen R800x using the XDA app.
Do you get permission denied when type su in the terminal? Then superuser from the market since the rom is already rooted

You could do it from the market/installer . Sorry I use adb for everything.

Thanks. I didn't realize I was supposed to use SU :x
So it wont let any applications recieve root idk why ik i have root because busybox is installed and super user along with the cwm recovery and when i use the terminal emulator it has no problem with the su command but es explorer wont receive root nor will some other apps any ideas?
Sent from my GT-P6210 using Tapatalk 2
Which method did u use to root?
Are u running the latest su/su binary?
Do u get any type of error messages?
What else have u tried to make it work?
Clearing the su app data? Maybe uninstalling and reinstalling the su app?

I've had the same issue for quit sometime now. Running the current binary it eventually will prompt for access but it usually takes about 4 -5 restarts of the app or even a reboot. I have not taken the time to resolve the issue, I've just lived with it.
I had this same problem with sixaxis controller not being granted root. I loaded the superuser app first then loaded sixaxis, doing this worked for me. The root access request popped up and has been working fine since.

try download supersu from market by chainfire and see if the problem is solved...
Hello. I'm on ICS official, rooted. I checked su for updates and it said my version was outdated. I tried to update and it just hung. I checked the market as a backup and it didn't prompt me to update but then I saw an "su update fixer."
Installed that and it said no problems so I checked su again and it still indicated I was outdated. Tried the install updated binary and it failed, twice.
Any ideas?

Try downloading busybox installer from market

Already had BB but tried it anyway. Updated my BB then tries su again. Same thing.

Hmm. You did flash su zip in recovery right? Im Basically in the same situation as far as our firmware goes. Official rooted ics but mine goes fine. Maybe try unimstalling su and re download.

Uninstalling and re-installing su and busybox worked for me when I had a similar issue with my tablet. Also, sometimes TiBu can fix binary issues automatically, so that might be worth a shot.
I'll try tomorrow with the uninstall/install. Thanks for the tips and I'll update sometime in the AM.

I uninstalled and updated both and it's still seeing the same problem only now, when reinstalling Busybox, I'm getting the following error:
It looks like Busybox is installed, but it does not appear to be the version that you selected to have installed. You may want to try the installation again but this time using a different installation location.
I tried that twice and got the same thing. I don't know if it's something I need to worry about, something I should reinstall to a different location (if so, where?), or something that could be getting in the way of updating SU.
I had the same problem till i installed goo manager and the new recovery http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1622917

I suggest downloading the signed update directly from the source: http://androidsu.com/superuser/
You'll want to download this file:
Code:
3.1.3
md5: b3c89f46f014c9df7d23b94d37386b8a
Superuser-3.1.3-arm-signed.zip
Which you'll find if you scroll further down the page....
Save the zip file onto your sdcard, boot into recovery and flash it from the recovery. This will work.

Thanks! Will post back with results.
Edit: Success. Thank you. Any idea why it wouldn't update on it's own? I don't quite understand all of this enough to figure that out on my own yet.

Sam here, i had a meesage about S-off /S-on re-downlaoded and re-installed addaway, now it just shows an error of Copying of hosts file failed.
Nexus 5 rooted with chainfire.
I had an error about not able to write to my host file as well. I closed the app, closed all open apps and then redownloaded and reapplied and everything went as usual.
Thanks, closing open apps did the trick.
