Android terminal emulator - General Questions and Answers

If I try to use the terminal for anything it returns "<command>: permission denied". This occurs with any terninal emulator I use. Will I have to make a call to busybox for everything?

seems that your root method doesnt work properly.Just try another one

Did you not see that I'm using cm? the ROM comes rooted.

hm two ideas.
- root permission is not being granted correctly
- busybox not installed correctly

Should I reinstall bb then?

This was addressed earlier. My rom COMES rooted, so I don't need to root it.
Also, When I try installing BB (using one of the BB installers) it says that the same version was already installed. Does this mean that I need to UNinstall it first? Wait for the next version of BB? :/

Try rebooting into clockworkmod recovery and going to advanced>fix permissions. Then reboot and go back to terminal and type su. If you still get permission denied, uninstall busybox the push it back to the phone via adb. Let me know how it goes.

Why do I have to use adb? Wouldn't I just be able to use the installer?

Do you get permission denied when type su in the terminal? Then superuser from the market since the rom is already rooted

You could do it from the market/installer . Sorry I use adb for everything.

After reboot you won't have root in adb shell. There are two ways to get root again in adb shell.
1. Type su in the adb shell and press the allow button on the superuser popup on your phone.
2. Install Koush's bootstrap and then bootstrap your phone; then you will always have a constant adb root shell.

O I never looked at my phone when I tried su... try that when I get home

Thanx noobnl, works fine with Quickboot and Root Manager
Verified here... thanks
was a little finicky with ROM manager the first couple of times for me, this might help with ROM manager:
make sure you're rooted first
Flash ClockworkMod Recovery from ROM Manager menu
Also, on any DK05 rom you should be able to use the one click root installer, then you can reboot without the 3 button death hold in any of the following ways:
via adb: adb reboot recovery
via QuickBoot
And even Root Manager
EXCELLENT job noobnl. This made my night =]

Have you granted superuser.apk permission? You need to go into command prompt on your computer (while connected by usb with debugging enabled) and type adb shell and su at the $ prompt, then superuser will ask for permission on your phone and you should get a # prompt.

Do you have the Superuser app installed? The su binary requires this to work properly.

when i read this i realized it wasnt but even after i installed it it still gave me the same problem on terminal, idk if it the actual rom that i installed or what?
first of all, did you root your phone? by any method? if you did, download titanium backup from the market, and when you open it, it will tell you that you dont have root access, press the problems? button, and it will prompt you with a box that has the option to get busybox, just press that button and most of the times this will fix this root permission issue

Rooted Samsung galaxy not letting apps recieve root?

So it wont let any applications recieve root idk why ik i have root because busybox is installed and super user along with the cwm recovery and when i use the terminal emulator it has no problem with the su command but es explorer wont receive root nor will some other apps any ideas?

Which method did u use to root?
Are u running the latest su/su binary?
Do u get any type of error messages?
What else have u tried to make it work?
Clearing the su app data? Maybe uninstalling and reinstalling the su app?

I've had the same issue for quit sometime now. Running the current binary it eventually will prompt for access but it usually takes about 4 -5 restarts of the app or even a reboot. I have not taken the time to resolve the issue, I've just lived with it.
I had this same problem with sixaxis controller not being granted root. I loaded the superuser app first then loaded sixaxis, doing this worked for me. The root access request popped up and has been working fine since.

I don't know what rom you are on and it usually depends. Check the super su app to make sure that you have the binaries installed (it only tells you if you don't). Also check with Root checker. I find the issue you have pretty odd.
I was on nusensesix and SuperSU did update the binaries when it updated from playstore but I guess something went wrong with that department or when I changed to stephs busy box. Thanks for the reply tho. Thread can be closed
