Why did they choose a 0.3mp ff camera?? - HTC Sensation

Wasn't that a bit silly??

If the SGS2 could pull off a 2MP front camera, HTC should have at least thrown in a 1.3...
To make things worse, the quality of the front camera is terrible and totally pixelated. At least I can use the rear camera for Skype...

Because their cheap @$$ idiots. Hence, the crappy snapdragon piece of crap processor.
BTW, I use the Sensation at the moment and let me tell you, I sure can't wait to get a hold of the Galaxy S II soon.

You've been flaming here on several other topics too. If you don't like the phone keep it to yourself and stop spamming about how much better the SGS2 is! Especially since you personally don't even have the S2 yet! Geez!

I have noticed that there is no one perfect phone. One has something better than the other. I bet this is done as a marketing plan. If you drop eveything into one device, then no one will buy any other. If you look at the past year of devices, one had a better processor than the other, but then the other had a better battery, and so on.

If you have a better explanation, then be my guest...Denial won't get you anywhere. The FFC on the Sensation is dirt. Period.
Oh wait, or would you rather hear...the FFC on the Sensation is absolutely gorgeous! The pixelation and poor quality is superb. .3 whooping super clear high definition camera. The best on the market.
One doesn't have to own a SGSII to know that the phone is much superior than the sensation. Comparing the two is a joke. The Sensations FFC camera is a joke.
It's not to say that I don't like the phone, heck I own one and use it as my primary next to my LG G2X (secondary). But there's a reason the SGSII sold 3Million units in 55 days....

now, I'm not much on replying to flame bait comments but... seriously?
how would you know one phone is better then the other without even atleast taking it for a test spin?
your logic makes no sense. (pun/no pun? )

And the complaints roll in. If u want a gorgeous ffc than go pay $700-800 for a phone. Most people don't even use it anyway to be honest. And I done owned every Nokia flagship with great ffc(the e7 being my last) When I had one I barely used it. I find myself using it more since Skype updated its app for android. Next your gonna want a flash on the ffc. If u don't like the phone take it back. Clearly u didn't do research before buying it or extending your contract. I think the clarity is fine. Most ffc are .3 to 1.3 and than its diff but that's based on laptops and webcams...if u want a 2.0 camera go drop the extra $200 than your gonna make a thread complaining about TouchWiz like the rest of the world. I think the Sensation is a solid device. A few hiccups but I'm sure it will be fixed with a software update or custom rom.

Why bother having a better front facing camera? So that the 5 times you use the video chat feature you'll look slightly better?
Come on, even if you were even an 8MP front facing camera, the software would scale it down before sending over 3G

I think VGA is enough..I rarely used it.I am not a girl, i don't like to take photos of myself..

I suffer from butterfingers syndrom and since the GS2 is made of plastic then I don't want a Samsung.
I have nagging feeling that HTC properly is gonna release a LTE enabled HTC Sensation with a frontfacing 1.3 og 2.0 Megapixel camera. Maybe next year.
And I the only who has that feeling?

It isn't a good camera, but it isn't bad in well-lit areas. The resolution doesn't make a difference on video calls though (primary reason for FFC) because all phones with FFCs can only capture VGA video (to my knowledge).

people really use the ffc that much? Its fine for video chat, it is what it is.
People say htc is cheap but i really doubt a 2mb camera costs that much more than the one they put in there.

Plastic is far more resistant to denting and gashes... my Galaxy S Vibrant is way more durable than my Sensation 4G. if I drop the Sensation I'm worried about the metal frame bending or denting or leaving huge terrible gashes in the finish.
The FFC is garbage.
HTC's cameras are still poor folks. The Sensation 4G does pale in comparison to the Galaxy S 4G when it comes to still quality and obviously the FFC. The only area the Sensation excels is in video audio recording.

well, one thing nice about the Sensation unibody is that if you dent it, scratch it, mar it in any way, you can just get a new one and you'd virtually have a new phone.
can't do that with the Samsung.
front VGA camera is fine for video chat. just don't do it in a dark place.
back camera takes good pics. these aren't DSLRs, it's a freaking phone camera.
you want the best still picture possible? get a Leica...

Who Do You Think the next Nexus Will Go to?

Aaaaaaa.... no. We are speaking about a phone, not a tablet. You want to hold up a 5" in your face ? I don't think so...
It should be a 4" or below. Personally, I think NS has almost the perfect ratio for the screen size, not too big to hold in your hands, not too small for your fingers to glide.
Also, Motorola ? Really ? Damn, I sure hope not. They suck, as well as LG and Sony. Crappy handsets. HTC is the prime factor in build quality. Samsung takes up no. 2. And that's about it. And because everyone would love a SAMOLED+ display on the new Nexus, then I guess Samsung is the way to go (again). I wouldn't mind it, its current build quality is not very bad (but not as good as HTC's).

You beat me to it!
There was the rumor going around about an LG Nexus tablet, but maybe they'll manufacture the next Nexus phone instead. Crazier things have happened.
Whoever gets it, I hope they bring back the contour surface. I think thats what makes nexus s look so unique.
It would be nice if they did a joint venture of HTC and Samsung. I love HTC construction, nice alluminum unibody, and the qHD Display looks pretty good too. Though the SAMOLED+ isn't a slouch neither. But I am would love to have the dual-core Exynos CPU not to mention Samsung flash mem and cameras. I'm sure however it shakes out it will be yet another awsome phone.
If I had my choice and had to choose one manufacturer I'd have to say HTC. quality is just so much better. If feels like a highend phone when you hold it. The Nexus S doesn't. With that being said I doubt Google would go back to HTC or Samsung. Who I think is going to be next is Motorola. Especially if LG is going to do the Tablet. Only makes sense. But who knows maybe they'll get RIM to do it. RIM is doing a lot of Android stuff with there phones and software. Maybe its the natural progress. Though it would be very very weird.
Maybe Apple might ditch their dumb IOS and join hands with Google and Make iNexus
I owned a lot of HTC devices before. While I do agree that the phone feels right in the hand, I have to say that nearly all of them had to go to service once. The only exception was the HTC diamond. The n1 with the faulty power button, the desire twice with faulty motherboard. The screen on my ex DHD was way washed out. I do think that slowly, HTC is getting out of the competition. One with the outdated hardware (except for the sensation) e.g thunderbolt, desire s, incredible s... and then with the locking of the bootloader.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk
I think Samsung hardware is far eclipsing the thought of HTC having better hardware. Samsung's fault is their SW update track record, but their hardware is top-notch. Can anyone say they haven't had a problem with an HTC device? From flaky touchscreen response on the Nexus One, to terrible speakers and battery life of my Desire, Inspire, Desire Z, and everyone's Thunderbolts, can we really compare these devices to Samsung's SAMOLED+ and better-than-average speakers?
Here's what people should be saying:
"I like the aluminum bodies that HTC phones have."
Should be Nexus X(peria)
from Sony. ..
I think LG will be the next one to get it and it might have a dual core processor.

I agree. All my HTC phones have had bad build quality. I think all people consider with "build quality" is the materials on the outside when it also should consist of do these materials actually function or last? So many bad build quality reports from HTC. Glass coming off the EVO, Nexus Ones bad touchscreen & power button, bad battery life, bad screens in the MT4G, etc.
I preferred my Nexus S's build quality to my Nexus One any day.
But, of all the manufacturers, Motorola has been my favorite. All of them have been so solid and sturdy in hand. Never any build quality problems and their quite rugged (some). I have no experience with Sony, but my LG Incite had horrible build quality (creaky, but so easy to take apart. Just like taking a hard case off a phone basically ). Samsung is so-so. My Nexus S was excellent, my Captivate was not. The Captivate just doesn't feel right to me. Not sure why there is so much hate for Motorola (I suppose the locked bootloader? And all the accusations of Blur when people haven't tried it/ used it since the 1.5 phones) and so much love for HTC when they have so many problems.

Moving from Atrix 4G

Hi guys, i am thinking of moving across from my Atrix 4G to the Infuse and was hoping to get some questions asnwered without trolling through here for hours.
I like my Atrix overall as a phone, but the locked bootloader is putting a dampener on my wishes to flash true ROMS. So, can you answer a few question for me please?
1. How do you find the quality of the phone overall?
2. What is battery life like?
3. Is it good performance wise (does the extra clock speed make eup for the older gen processor) ?
4. Are the ROMS available supported well with updates and feature adding?

well it is not an arm a9 or dual core but it runs better than the other hummingbird phones due to extra ram and a quality job on the firmware.
build quality is good, parts fit much tighter than motorola and internals look more professional than htc but it feels kinda flimsy, not as rugged as the captivate was. it is just too large, too thin, and the plastic is too light and not rigid enough, this construction was great for a smaller phone like the galaxy s but is questionable on a phone this big and thin. that said it is not likely to break, i have dropped mine a few times i just wish it had a metal frame in there.
the hummingbird is very fast, it wont always beat the tegra but on some benchmarks it can get better frame rates especially with kernel mods. my 3d scores in antutu on my capivate were double what any stock phone had on the list when i was using a custom kernel. on the other hand the hummingbird is not well supported by the game develpoers probably because of lower popularity in america and because the tegra represents the next generation and the snapdragon is more popular and more clockable, future snapdragons will see 1.4ghz and up on the same core they are currently using.
so since it doesnt have the gaming dev it deserves (can be helped with chainfire 3d) the advantage of the hummingbird comes down to media playback. the hummingbird can playback H.264 mkv files at a higher class than the tegra, it is only beat by apples a5 in the ipad2 and the orion chip in the sgs2 with video playback. when gingerbread is available it will play those files even better.
so maybe it isnt as fast as the tegra2, but it is faster(slightly) in specific areas. im not saying one or the other is better but dont look at the hummingbird as an old processor just yet. other than that it has good battery life and the dev section is in it's infancy. when there is a kernel dev things will get alot better, if you want to help us get a kernel dev then donate to netarchy in the donations thread. for now the roms are good quality, the devs that are here are good with giving people what they want and at modding apps.

But anyway. We have gray ROMs and bettery battery, my 2 friend I let them.play with my infuse, they both have atrix , not they are both selling it on craiflist, even though this is just single core they told me they can see no difference, but me I don't know anything about the atrix because I don't have one, but most of the things I heard that atrix has bad battery and heat issues.

I have no heat issues, and great battery life with my Atrix, its only lack of bootloader access that is putting me off.
I had the Atrix before this phone.....I'm just saying the difference is like STONE to PILLOW. Literally... TouchWiz in camperason to Moto Blur is 10X better. Plus in less then a month this phone is probably going to have some awesome ROMs...true ROMs at that. Now if you use the laptop dock and other Atrix accessories all the time dont change its not worth the loss of $500+. Now Atrix fans might argue that it has dual cores... well the Atrix might have that, but its hardly noticeable. If you want a all around better phone the Infuse is the phone for you.

I hear ya, though it would be likely even touch wiz would go as I am yet to find a phone companies launcher that meets my needs. I must say though the new version of Motoblur in the upcoming GB update looks to be a huge improvement.
Things like notification power settings and custom kernels are attractive to me and frankly don't look like a reality on the Atrix any time soon (second init seems like a lot of mucking around).
Also 4.5 inches of OLED goodness is attractive.
I moved from the Atrix to the Infuse last weekend. I can honestly say I'm 100% happy and won't go back to the Atrix. I had done my research prior to swapping them out so the first thing I did was installed the 1.2 infused rom. This is EXACTLY what I was hoping to get out of a rom with the Atrix, but it just wasn't happening. In real world performance, you really can't tell that the processors are different. I'm a tech nerd so I figured "OMG I can't go back to a single core." I was wrong. I haven't found a single thing about the Infuse that I would want to be more like the Atrix.
TL/DR
Performance differences are non-existant in every day use. The screen is AMAZING to look at. I can't stop looking.
edit: to answer your questions
1. Quality feels solid. Lighter materials don't always mean lesser quality.
2. Battery life is fine. As long as you don't expect to stream pandora over 3g/4g for 12 hours on battery, the phone lasts all day.
3. Performance is even better than anticipated.
4. Infused ROM has been awesome.

Why would you want a dualcore when you can have a single core that don't lag at all and doesn't drain your battery that much.

Would I be crazy if I wanted to switch to a sensation from the SGS2?

I have a SGS2 right now and it's the best phone I've ever owned but I'm BORED )
I know the sensation is slower in all aspects but have the issues like the wifi death grip, laggy software etc been resolved with custom roms?
Samsung may have the best hardware but HTC still makes the most exciting phones
You do what you want to do. Both phones have their pros and cons and you are aware of them.

Samsung's build quality is top notch, they just want it to be the lightest and slimmest phone hence the plastic. If you've toyed around with the sgs2 you'd be pretty amazed how they were able to make the whole thing.
What I do miss from HTC is the different amounts of roms available. With samsung you only get stock, CM is crap even with the old sgs.
Samsung generally makes devices which will work, but will break at the drop of a hat. Really depends what you class as build quality, Where as HTC generally makes devices which work (maybe not to the extent of samsung) but are very hard to damage and are easily modded. Really depends on what you want from a device to which suits you more.

Pare, I have toyed with SGS2, believe me, it is nowhere near the feel of the sensation in your hands. The sensation just feels solid and robust compared to the SGS2 which is too light and feels flimsy somehow and ugly. Grab a sensation and play with it and you will know what I mean. It's nice to have 16Gb of nternal memory though and 1Gb or ram with SGS2
Edit: The nice thing about the sensation design is that you can replace the whole back cover if you damaged it and it will be like brand new.
My bro owns a SGSII and I own a sensation...and HTC is a one way phone I believe..i mean you can come from SGSII to Sensation, but you will not be able to go back... try it dude....you will remember my words .... the slow sensation can be made faster enough by lots of ROM available on XDA itself.... by looks, by build quality... by UI...i always feel sensation is the BEST...
-----MY OPINION------
i must say i disagree with the above post (no offence) but stick with galaxy s2. all the htc sensation can offer you is htc sense apart from that there mostly identical, and also dont be drawn in with the qhd display, its fantastic none the less but it wont put a dent on the s2. i know this as i own both of them, and also be patient as someone's working on a port of htc sense for the galaxy s2 so im sure that will cure your boardness
Put it this way. If your going to do a straight swap, then go for it. But if you have to fork extra dough just to get the sensation, then just keep your SGS2 because it is probably not worth it.
I had the sgs2, I had it for 17 days and my friend lost it (long story), to be honest I am kinda glad they did lose it.
The sgs2 is a stupidly powerful phone true. But the build quality is bad, you always feel like it will snap in your pocket if you sit down, I think it's also too thin (i know people like it thin, but it feels awful in the hand).
It's personal preference but the HTC sensation feels awesome in the hand and it looks sexy. The screen on the HTC sensation is also just so nice. Granted the super Amoled + is pretty gorgeous too.
On the whole the galaxy is a lot faster, but as far as build quality, looks and feel in your hand you will not be disappointed with the sensation.
But yeah personal preference, both are great devices.
My previous phone was a iPhone4 and coming to the qHD screen made me so happy. Higher resolution is the real future.

i must say i disagree with the above post (no offence) but stick with galaxy s2. all the htc sensation can offer you is htc sense apart from that there mostly identical, and also dont be drawn in with the qhd display, its fantastic none the less but it wont put a dent on the s2. i know this as i own both of them, and also be patient as someone's working on a port of htc sense for the galaxy s2 so im sure that will cure your boardness

When compared with HTC SENSATION:
The only thing i would like to take from SGSII is its battery life
Else i like Sensation...i sold me prev sensation and had to buy another phone...i had a very good look at my bro's SGSII and eventually decided to get Sensation again...
Yes, display for SGSII is more brighter and colourful, but qHD display is even better in Sensation .....
I kinda wish i kept my EVO 3D... Still waiting for sgs2 to wow me.
I just need a better interface.. Touchwiz sucks compared to sense.

I see alot of broken evos and alot of broken charging ports and blown out speakers on evos from working at sprint I do see the occasional messed up epic but its mostly software issues. I know this about tmo but just letting you guys know what I see from manufacturers plus the evo 3d has its own issues as well but mostly software too
**** yea
Haha, both phones are currently the top dawgs in the Android world, but like everything in the tech world, the next big thing is already looming (Galaxy Note, for one)
Unlike a pc, how fast do you really need a phone to be? Will the yellow bird in angry birds accelerate any faster? will the FPS in Backstab or Need for Speed improve? Custom Sense Roms have eliminated all lag issues, and i personally have never experienced a grip of death, whether for wifi or phone signal.
But i get where youre coming from pare, the grass is always greener on the other side. Since I own a Sensation, i find myself curious about the SGS2.
If youre serious about a swap, just PM me, maybe we can work something out Looks like were both from Metro Manila anyway.

Samsung generally makes devices which will work, but will break at the drop of a hat. Really depends what you class as build quality, Where as HTC generally makes devices which work (maybe not to the extent of samsung) but are very hard to damage and are easily modded. Really depends on what you want from a device to which suits you more.

How do you rate the nexus S camera?

I am specifically talking about the still picture camera.
When I compare the nexus S with other phones using the gsmarena photo comparison tool, it actually seems like one of the best 5MP camera around and gsmarena says "good 5MP snapper" and they say it's noticeably better than galaxy S.
On this forum(and the rest of xda) on the other hand I have seen many people say that the camera is mediocre. I want to know what do they mean by that? I understand since it's only 5MP you can forget about widescreen photography but how is it as far as image quality is concerned?
Do these people mean mediocre compared to something like galaxy S2 or you think it just doesnt cut it for a reasonably good daily snapper?
I have used galaxy S camera and I found it satisfying minus the lack of LED flash. Will I be satisfied with nexus S camera?

i LOVE my nexus s camera!
i think the people that rate it mediocre either dont know how to use it or take photos with a smudged up lens cover.

seconded. I like the camera a lot
The camera is awesome! we should rate it with objective perspextive. Meaning, do we take shoot with low light? Any camera will not get maximum rrsult out of it.

+1, I found it had better stills than my old Galaxy S. I compared it to an iPhone 4, and it seems to be quite a bit better for point and shoot scenarios.
Ya it really does look good in the gsmarena tool and the photos on flickr for the nexus S. Most people complaining about it must be the ones who think "the more megapixels the better" which is so wrong.
It wins and life and is a bawse. That is all on the Nexus S camera.
. It really is AMAZING though. The quality is outstanding
Nexus S (GSM i9020a)
CyberGR Hybrid ICS (v6)
Eugene's Kernel (Speedy-7)
OC 1100/100 (ondemandx)
It's good, but my pictures would come out better on my old Epic.
Still a great camera though.
As the others have said, definitely a solid camera in comparison to many phones. Megapixels don't stand up to a good lens and sensor.
I'm afraid the people who rate the camera mediocre is because of lack zoom that is instead absolutely useless and destructive. I'm really happy about the camera and sometimes pictures are better of the digital compact camera (Panasonic, 4 years old) my wife uses.
IMHO, its good for indoors but not THAT impressive for outdoors, dont exactly know, i also went for a comparison between the pics taken running CM7 & stock ics. i went to a conclusion that cm7 camera pics were far better than ics(dont exactly know the reason).
maybe the focused-preview and the camera shutter are not calibrated?
anyways..i will rate it 8/10.
I think the camera is great, especially with ICS.
tapa tapa tapa
I just got a nexus s 4g I have an epic 4g touch and the picture quality is good on the ns4g not as good as the e4gt but its really close I like it.

I had galaxy s before nexus, and I think on galaxy camera is much better for outdors, for indors i found that they both suck.

IMO, when taking still pictures, Nexus S' camera is on par with iPhone 4's.
However, based on what I observed, iPhone 4's camera shots brighter pictures than Nexus S'. But still I think Nexus S is one of the best 5-megapixels shooter.
A picture is worth ... well you know the rest.

I find it really goog for a phone camera.
Picture with flash are sometimes too white for me.
It is obviously not as good as SGS2 & iphone 4s, but still fine for daily pictures n videos. No complain at all!
I have never found a phone camera that takes as good pictures as a cheap, decent digital camera, though SGS2 comes close. For outdoor/long shots, the NS is acceptable, but with closer objects the noise is really noticeable.
I used to have a Nokia N95 and I think it had better camera than NS.

[Q] bad screen and camera quality

hi guys,
I'm an android no0b ... soon fix that problem though.
anyway here is my situation and question:
Does the phones with the 'Bad Screen Issue' take the same quality pics as the ones with the Good screen
I love to take pics... my old nokia 3.15mb cellphone take great shot, I simply love cellphone that take great pics... but
I might be getting a used a mytouch4g (rooted still on froyo) [decent enough price (well as decent as living in Jamaica goes) ]
and from the first day that I saw the the phone I commented "oh i thought it would be nicer... the screen looks so bland... washed out"
the owner didnt even realize that it look bland, and said that its just looks that way , it doesnt affect the camera/pic quality.
I played around with it for a few minutes... my first experience with an android device... I AM IN LOVE WITH ANDROID NOW. but I still could not get around how bland the screen showed..
he only had it for a week before and didnt have much experience with android either.. he got it from someone b4 ... and all he knew is that its rooted.
I really like this device, and checked around online and was shocked to find out about the 'BAD SCREEN ISSUE' , and first i say some comments where persons said that they first say it after the rooted their device and a some1 even said that the unrooted their phone and the issue went away..
but that to this forum and youtube and realized that is a real hardware issue literally a 'BAD SCREEN' most like TFT vs a SuperLcd issue. ( right ?)
I still purchase it from him, and i said the the price is pretty sweet...
i know only know two person who own the mytouch/glacier and I asked them to send me a sample of pics that they took with their phone... just to compare camera quality. In fat hey did n't even know about the BAD screen issue (fortunately for them their devices are ok) ...
I took some pics with the one that i would be getting and I must say I am disappointed ... the pic when send to my pc looks just as washed out and bland as on the phone screen. i seriously doubted that the screen would affect the camera quality.. i may be wrong though.
I am not considering not to buy it... just because of the bright/washed out screen... but it not likely that i'm getting another decent Android phone for any where near this price again.
So guys I'm asking
.1) Does the phones with the 'Bad Screen Issue' take the same quality pics as the ones with the Good screen
.2) (if the forum allows it) some of your guys with the 'bad screen" phones upload your pics so i and have a better judgement of the camera quality. Prolly the camers secsors are determined by th e screen output (?)
.3) If u think that think that unrooting/rerooting will help the camera issue ( yeah unlikey )
4) If updated the android build / ginger bread or cm7 or so would improve the camera quality.
thanks in advance.

thanks for the prompt reply...
sadly I can not answer that question, as:
1) I did not check (dont know how to as yet), I am assuming that it at its default setting
2) the phone is not currently in my possession ( prolly not for the next two days) .
once again thanks
The menu button (second hard button from the left) will bring up settings. Check Resolution. I've noticed that pictures in lower light aren't too great. Remember though, its a phone with a camera. The camera is, at most, second.

hope fully I can get my hands on it tomorrow...
I am hoping that the camera can be adjusted to take quality pics...
sad if my old nokia kicks the teeth out a glacier
The LCD panel and the camera picture quality are not related. The good/bad screens basically refer to the two vendors HTC sourced for the MT4G's LCD, with the good one being the Sony S-LCD and the bad one being manufactured by Sharp. The differences between the screens lie in their contrast, color rendering, and off-axis viewing angles. There are some theories that the differences are not actually caused by the screen, but rather by the digitizer, but unless the digitizer was replaced, the screen and digitizer seem to go hand in hand.
The camera on the MT4G simply isn't that good. Unlike the camera for the Amaze, I've never read of an editable image compression setting for the MT4G's camera, so I'm inclined to believe that one doesn't exist.

I had two mytouch.
One good.one bad.
I have to say the cm7 camera from tdj's 12/30/11 cm7 Kang took some great pictures.
I tested every camera option available(alot of basketball/baseball games),and for some reason that Kang was the best as far as cameras.
Should it have been different? I do.t know why! Cant explain it!
Those pictures were crisp and clear.
I sure I posted a pic in that thread to check it for sure.right around new years.
Found the picture.posted it above.
On both phones the camera was super bad.
Thats why thr darkside was the best side.

I was not impressed with the quality of the pictures from the MT4G before it died. The outdoor pictures in daylight still had significant compression artifacts, soft focus, and undersaturation. Not natural saturation. Undersaturation. Blacks weren't black. Indoor pictures with incandescent lighting were just dreadful. Honestly, the picture quality was comparable to my Motorola RAZR2 V9x with an extra three megapixels.
Lol.haha.its a phone.its a 5mp camera.
Not bad for what it is.
