Please test it out and give me any feedback.
A Pro version with more widget sizes will be released soon.
Great app and nice work. I'm moving this to Apps / Games.
Great App and very useful, tried it out on my Desire HD, couple of points the radio buttons are very small on the widget, I found myself pressing three or four times not knowing if i was successful. Because of this it seemed to have some lag before I got the message box saying please wait updating system.
Apart from that, sweet...
Quick question
Hi,
I use this, but not sure if using correctly.
I have set a custom setting, with language to English, but location to China, as that is where I am. My hope is that numbers/ address formats will be according to China standards, but display of programs will be in English. But, it really just seems to use American address fields (state, postal code, etc). Is this how it should work?
This looks very nice, i'll give it a whirl shortly.

Ahh sorry, I should have mentioned that those things that looks like buttons are not buttons. They're light indicators that turn green if the language is currently being used. The part that can be touched is the big square block with the language name.
The light indicators actually don't respond to touch at all. So pressing them an infinite amount of times shouldn't bring any response.
But thank you for the suggestion. I'll make those indicators respond to touch in a future update.

The app works as a duplicate of the Language settings in your Settings. If you change the language to English, everything will be English as if you had changed it in the settings.
From my understanding, the number and address formats are also tied into the Locale so to get the result that you want, you need to make sure your phone has English for a Chinese Country. I think Hong Kong uses English and the Chinese format. I believe you might need the Locale en-hk or read as English (Hong Kong).
My app is only used to switch between languages in a more convenient way, so its unable to provide you with the Locale you need if your device doesn't support it. I suggest taking a look at the app MoreLocale2 from C-LIS Crazy Lab.
Please update for Android 9-up, fiture change language and Time zone with one click. Thanks

Please be aware that this developer hasn't been seen on XDA for more than 10 years. I've now closed this thread as the last post prior to yours was about 12 years ago and the download link is not functionable.

Does anyone have more info about this app, specially in english? Is the downloaded app in english or russion?
it is BEST ebook reader so far for me.
of course, someone will say booo ubook is better, maybe, but it is MUCH slower and MUCH heavier...and FAR less configurable. alreader is VERY compact program with massive amount of options, hyphenation etc(look inside rar).
it has profiles, that can be switched with...BUTTON - in fact, VERY much things can be mapped to buttons..
btw, there's NOTHING better to read .doc files(lol @ ubook in that matter, just LOL) - awesome loading times.
alreader is in english, here's rar:
http://www.mm.pl/~xoen/AlReader0131.rar
it is able to use many codepages, so far i tested russian, polish, english ebooks.

what's VERY interestin that it can handle html pages too:
imo, it is best thing you can use in ROM kitchens.
my OEMpack(preconfigured 2 profiles etc):
http://www.mm.pl/~xoen/!xoalread.rar
only thing is for sure: it may take some time to get around options. some of them are available when file is opened(it may be strange for someone).
i can recommend this soft.
btw, for everyone, that is using apps operating with text - glyphcache set to 131072 or MORE can really speed up performance of programms, not sad 8192, 32768, just more - >131072 can be used. value is in bytes, so it is not strain for system...
sorry for funny english, i can read, can't write...:S
isn't that an older version of alreader?
I just tried it out, it looks great. Just one thing, in my html files i'm getting square boxes. Why is that?

Thanks got it to work. Brilliant and fast reader. Its freeware right?
yes, it is, but you can donate - autor(s) made good job imo...
Formats: HTML, FB2, CHM, TXT, RTF, PDB/PRC (PalmDOC, zTXT mode 1), TCR, text from DOC, DOCX, ODT, SXW, ABW, ZABW, open text inside ZIP, GZ.
Thanks - how about hiding the background time display?
Thanks for the link to this - it is a very cool program.
Has anyone figured out how to turn off the background time display? It doesn't seem necessary since I have the current time displayed in the titlebar, and also along the bottom in the status bar for alreader. I didn't see it in the menu system and I went through it a couple times (could have just missed it but I thought I checked every setting)...
Profiles -> margin and background.
Great application!
And I can get my meager knowledge of Russian to use (I downloaded the newest russian version.)
Not that it woule be necessary
Hi, sorry to sound litlle dumb but how do I make it speak english? Is that even possible? I have downloaded the latest pocket pc version and everything is in russian so i have absolutly no idea what to do... I've tried the one submitted here earlier and even so it was in english, the text of the book was styll in russian font
Anybody know of a working link to an english version (or know how to get the Russian one to display english menus?). Thanks
Guys, I'm Russian. I'm willing to help you so I've searched the AlReader developer forum (http://www.alreader.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=3) and discovered that the latest English version is not free! That may look strange but only Russian one is a freeware. And there's no way in the latest versions to switch interface language.
However few years ago there was no such language separation and if you are using ver. 2.3 or older, you can use it for free and switch interface to English. But, of course version 2.3 is outdated, the latest one is far more advanced.
The newest English version is called AlReader+ and could be downloaded and purchased here:
http://shapeservices.com/en/products/details.php?product=allreader&platform=pocketpc
Thus, it's not possible to put AlReader into cooked WWE ROM. Although it is the best ebook reader software and I'm personally using it.
Sorry for bad news.
Well that sux really i was just going to research that issue. Being a bulgarian i can live with russian menues though
Hi guys I managed to find an old version 2.3 that is speaking Eng and still not needed to register , enjoy

You can always google AllReader+ 2.6

I tried it and found some little problems for the moment :
- menu->settings : need translation at the bottom tabs
- using bandwidth mode (settings), when I load a new web page I see chinese words
- visiting Google.com, Google says that there is a security problem with my browser witch send automatically requests. Then I must type some characters and confirm that I'm not a robot !!!

Do you mean the word "Lock" when the screen rotates? That is in English for me.
Thanks wxrjack for making this. It's without doubt the best browser available in my opinion.
Any chance we could get an option for turning off exit app confirmation? When a URL is launched from inside an app, and i press back button to return to that app afterwards it gets in the way always asking.

Issue here with Flash or youtube, I'm not sure: I played a youtube vid on a site, and then hit back; the video sound kept playing. I hit home, and it kept going. Eventually I hooked up to my phone using the shell access in adb, and killed the browser process manually, only then did it stop.
Works absolutely fantastically!
No more music icon which is useless for us non-chinese users, thankyou very much for this wxrjack and the rest of the Miren team (if there are anymore).
One little question though, will this be able to update from within the browser like the chinese version can when a new update comes out?
I would also be happy to add swedish to the available languages, I don't need it myself as I'm a native english speaking swede but others might apreciate it.

Couple things..
1. When you click on an address it doesn't ask if you want to launch in Google Maps like the stock browser. Instead it goes to a web based version of google maps.
2. On a site like ESPN mobile when I click to watch a video it just goes to a page that say you do not have permission to open this page. This is probably not a flash video since it's on the mobile site. Works fine in the stock browser. The stock browser opens it in the android video player.
3. Finally, any chance for adding an on demand setting for flash.
Thanks!
cool, this has been my default browser since I first downloaded it. glad to see an official english version.
Hi There,
I am relatively new to XDA Dev forum, although a long time developer. We've got a vibrant community here so as a budding Android developer let me introduce myself with my first Android app! Speedlauncher app launcher widget !! Let me describe my app for your feedback.
Many of us install a ton of apps on our phone and have to constantly scroll up and down screens to find a specific game or app. Its pretty annoying at times. Speedlauncher is a different take on the launcher concept. Speedlauncher is an app launcher widget that launches any app by pressing a 1 or 2 digit shortcode. So for e.g. you might have shortcode 9 for Angry Birds, 18 for Facebook, 27 for Twitter and so on....
You need to add Speedlauncher on your homescreen from the widgets list to be able to use it. I'm giving the Android market link below as well as the QR code.http://market.android.com/details?id=com.bapatsoftware.android.SpeedLauncher

}
I have also attached few screenshots with this post.
Please give it a try and share your real feedback both negative and positive as that will help me in refining the app.
Thanks,
Omkar
I hav'nt tried the widget but my impression is that it might be a bit difficult to use, as you have to memorize the number of each application you want to launch.
What if instead you make an alphanumeric keyboard, where you can type in the first 2-3 letters of the name of an application and it starts listing all applications containing this letters in the name? From this pop up list you can then launch the one you want.
Very nice & useful app/widget osbapat But i think Claus is right, please think about it

It is a nice suggestion but an app for that is already available (kinda works the same way as SmartDial, but to launch apps).
This concept is not bad at all. Yes, you need to memorize the speed dials, but if you have some contacts on speed dials it should flow rather well. I would be nice to be able to have a reminder of what is what.
Edit: nvm, just saw the "Edit" button
Thanks to all of you for your valuable feedback! I will try to improve my app.
@egzthunder1, do you think a screen that displays only the app name and assigned shortcode, to quickly scan which shortcode is given for which app will be useful?
Thanks and Regards,
Omkar S. Bapat
Well, I rather create folder with apps. But you could do something like t9 search (similar to t9 dialer)

I think it will help.... kinda like having a quick guide on regular land line phones....
I think a t9 launcher makes more sense and is much easier to use. Indeed, reminding all those shortcut codes is not convenient at all. As far as I know there is no t9 launcher for android, so +1 from me for making one .
I also prefer an app over a widget...
i suggest you will use a t9 like suggestions :
lets say i configured number 10,11,12 as Email,Gmail,Phone
when i'l just press '1' ill see an icon of all 3 apps above as a suggestion.
i think your idea is great.
Speedlauncher Version 1.0.5 released!
Thanks for your feedback. Based on the feedback received so far I have made 2 changes to the app:
1) Added a new screen for quick reference of shortcodes to apps. To access this screen tap on the SCode button on the widget
2) Changed the UI of the widget buttons
Regards,
Omkar
Share Where is an easy-to-use app that allows you to quickly share your current location with anyone and everyone.
It also includes a home screen widget that allows you to send a predefined message together with your location to multiple recipients via email/SMS or any of your apps with just the click of a widget.
The location is presented as a link to Google maps.
From article at talkandroid.com/reviews/apps/featured-android-app-review-share-where-location-sharing-travel-local/
"These widgets are not only efficient, but they are perfect for kids and emergency situations. Kids can quickly update where they are and if they are in an emergency situation, a quick tap of their finger on the widget will let loved ones know exactly where they are."
I started working on it in Februari 2012. It was originally created for my friend, whose 10-year old son suffers from severe epilepsy and a light form of cerebral palsy, so he needed a quick and simple way to share his location in case he didn't feel well. In situations like that you don't have the time to start figuring out exacly where you are and then put that in a message that you send to the ones who need to know. So I solved this by letting him press once on a widget, and it would send a pre-written message together with his location to his parents' email addresses and cell phones. My friend really liked the app so I developed it to meet more general needs aswell.
I figured that there are lots of other situation where this can be used, and the feeling of helping just one person out of a critical situation with my app would be fantastic.

I added a new feature called "Send By Request", where you can allow people to request your current location via SMS.
When the SMS is received you will get the option to accept or dismiss the request. Those added to your list of trusted persons will get an automatic reply without any interaction from you.
You also have the option to specify your own private phrase that can be used to get an automated reply regardless of which device the message is sent from. This could be used if you have lost your phone and need to borrow a friend's phone to locate yours.
Send By Request is setup in the SMS section of the app settings.
I've a problem with the link inside the message
If the recipient phone language is not set to english (just tested using french), google maps opens with message: "no results for n.nnnn, p.pppp" (GPS coordinates) then shows the *recipient* location.

I have noticed this and commented about it in the app description on Google Play:
*** There is a bug in some versions of Google Maps for Android that formats the input coordinates incorrectly. This is depending on your device's language setting. It works for English, but fails for some languages. If the Google Maps app isn't able to open the link, open it with your web browser. ***
I have also written a report to Google Maps and mentioned it to Android Developers on Google+:

Unfortunately, since the problem depends of language settings of the *target* device not of the *source* device, the target user is generally unable to have knowledge of the fix.

The Google Maps link fix is available in the version attached to the first message of this thread.
It will also be available on Google Play soon.
I am planning to translate the app from English to Korean, Japanese, Spanish, French, Russian, Portuguese, German, Italian and maybe some more languages (I can do the Swedish translation myself).
If someone wants to help me, please send a mail to [email protected]
3.4.3 is translated to German, Italian, Spanish and Swedish (in addition to the default English).
The app is not actually made for checking if you have a cool vanity number ("1-888-PIZZA"), but that's one way of using it
I created the app as a help for finding meaningful names to a given number, making it easier to memorize numbers.
I'll never forget the security code to my car stereo anymore. It's "cake" - (2253)
If you'd like to check it out, or perhaps see if you or your friends have a fun phone number, you can check it out at play store - NameMyNumber.
Hope you give it a try, and hopefully have some fun :fingers-crossed:
Please also remember that you can select different languages for your results. (Settings button)
Here is a 2 minute youtube video of what the app is supposed to do

What are your thoughts on that? Would you be OK with it?

Well, thats why you can select a given word, and then again get a new search result. Limiting the new search result based on your previous selection. A sort of "drill down" into the results.
That way you may be able to get 2 or 3 words out of your number.
Numbers containing 0 and 1 in the middle part of the number, tends to provide less good result. Since there are no characters for 0 and 1 on the dial pad.
Did you try to combining one word with others?

From my point of view, it depends on what the app does.
- If I expect an app to make lookups in the contacts. then I'd have no problem with it.
If I don't see why an app would need it, then I agree with you.
Perhaps I'll add a "share via" function that enables the user to send a contact to NameMyNumber.
Any thoughts?

Sure, why not. Although it would be easier for the user to pick from a list within the app...
By the way, I showed the app to my younger brother. The app became quite the laugh amongst his friends at school. They where competing on having the best number
Thanks for the feedback, that's very kind of you
If anyone has some more feedback on the app, I'd love to here it.
If not, I suppose I'll leave it as it is, this strange little app...
