Has anyone gotten this type of corporate secured wifi to work successfully? I log in with A D credentials and IP address is assigned but can't browse out to internet. I have tried several roms and kernels to no avail. My Droid X works fine without any modifications. Anyway to pull from a Droid X the kernel etc that allows it to work and port it to the g tablet? This tablet would be very useful for in my office. thanks to you who help the clueless.
I am also having this problem as well, in trying to connect the G-Tab to a WiFi network on a college campus. I've already consulted with a few tech experts there, and also used instructions which were written up for that campus' tech site.
The problem I have having is that when I try to connect to "UIC-WiFi" there is nothing on the G-Tab wireless networks menu that states anything about changing the
"credential settings." All I see is something about "visible passwords," and "Factory Reset."
Is there a way this can be enabled?
Any help is greatly appreciated!

Sounds like you are running the g tab with no hacks. The software out of the box does not have the necessary menus to enter the wifi information for our network type. You can either load a custom ROM from here or download Wifi Advanced Configuration Editor app for free from market which will give you the fields as well. I have all the settings field but it just doesn't work as it matches my Droid X exactly which works fine. This post will probably get buried as I guess no one else has the problem or cares. I hope I helped you at least.

Solution is in this post. Worked like a charm.

Btw, I'm running TnTlite.
Thank youfor suggesting "WiFi Configuration Editor." It worked!

Glad to help. I wish I could figure out what the issue is with mine though. log or something to tell me where it is failing after trying to get out to three internet.
I searched everywhere so my Galaxy 7+ WIFI so I can tether it to my phones mobile internet like many other phones mine can't tether in infrastructure mode.
All of my searches pretty much are all for the previous model the Galaxy Tab in which the fix involves replacing the "wpa_supplicant" file. I have even tried this on my G 7+ but it was a waste of time. My WIFI was in "error" state and did not function until I restored the original "wpa_supplicant" file.
If someone knows a fix please post it be highly appreciated
no adhoc here either
I too have a 7+ Wifi GT-6210 and have tried an assortment of wpa_supplicant replacements that do not work. The replacements all seem to be a version 0.6.10(or older). The original on my units reports version 0.8.x.
There are several threads with versions that fail:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033314
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1106130
There is some good info at http://szym.net/2010/12/adhoc-wifi-in-android/ that may be helpful but applying the patch and compiling my own is beyond my talents.
And here is a post with a diff file for the patch: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7711198&postcount=6. The entire thread for this one is interesting but still not a solution for the 7+.

This may not be the ideal solution for you but you could try PdaNet Tablet(beta) from the marketplace. It will allow non-rooted tablets to tether to your phone via bluetooth.
You'll need the app running on both devices (phone as server, tab as client).
Be sure to follow the instructions in the app to get it running and will involve setting up a proxy on the client side (local host 127.0.0.1).
After you've connected and finished tethering be sure to clear the proxy settings on your tablet and save or you may have problems getting a connection with wifi.
I have successfully tethered my Moto Atrix to the 7+ but as the app description says, its in beta and functionality is limited to browsing, Gmail, and Google Maps. Other apps that depend on the internet do not work, including (I believe) the marketplace.
Again, it's not an ideal solution, but for some simple browsing it appears to be the only option we have until ICS.
I've been trying to research this in my "spare" time... It seems that wpa_supplicant might have to be compiled with support for the wlan chip being used, and there's no default support for the atheros 600x. I see samples floating around the 'net of wpa_supplicant including ar6000 support, but they are all older versions.
wpa_supplicant is provided under GPL2, so I've made a request to samsung for the source code they use to compile the utility. (wish me luck)
Once I have source I can compile, modifying it to support ad-hoc shouldn't be too difficult...
Take care
Gary

It is a good temporary solution for now even with those limits. What do you mean about ICS update? Does ICS have native support for adhoc or something. I have much higer hopes Gary will have a fix than samusng. So far it seems none of the g tabs natively support ad-hoc and I have a feeling it is not going to change anytime soon.

I read recently that ICS will incorporate support for WiFi Direct (which our tablets already have). The theory, if I'm understanding things correctly, is our tablets could internet share with an ICS phone via WiFi Direct.
I'm guessing that the wpa_supplicant file isn't specific to the device but to the OS. I did some searching around and found this XDA discussion where they got it working on a Xoom with Honeycomb: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1033314
AND this discussion where someone used the same file to get it working on an Acer A500 with Honeycomb: http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1069569.html
Sooo... my 7+ is on its way but I don't have it to test it. Can someone grab the wpa_supplicant file from the Xoom discussion and try it out?
<crossing fingers!>
I'll save you the trouble: The wpa_supplicant on the 7+ is linked with atheros specific driver extensions. Unless the xoom uses the same AR6003 chip, it won't work.
Oh, the xoom doesn't use the AR6003 chip... it appears to be using a broadcom chip.

I was able to get tethering working using Android Wifi Tether on my HTC Droid Incredible. I had to open Wifi Tether and go to Settings>Change Setup-Method and enabled Softap (master) and was able to get my GTab7+ to recognize the phone this way.
WIFI tether works on Evo4G (deck's 1.3 stable, tiamat 3.3.7 kernel) with wpa-tsk on P6210 (rooted stock).
Galaxy S 2.2
I got it to tether the 7+ just fine using "Wifi Tether" but no dice when trying anything else. Works fine except my commute takes me through several deadzones.
S.O.S. I have a Galaxy 7 plus rooted, I try the ad-hoc wifi switcher (ZT-180 adhoc) And yes it was stupid! now the wifi won't come on is there hope? Would replacing the wpa_supplicant fix it? And what can I do besides return it again to Best Buy. And losing all my data again
Thanks for any help

Not sure what your problem is as I'm not familar with ad-hoc wifi switcher or what it does. I am assuming it borked your GTAB7+ somehow. You could do a factory restore (settings>privacy>factory data reset). This will restore your GTab7+ to the way it was when you first got it. All data will be gone as well as root. Both of which are easy to replace as long as you've backed up your apps and data. I use Titanium Backup and GMail saves all my contact info and syncs it with my devices. I also allow Google to backup my device so all my apps just automatically redownload when I do a restore so I really don't need to do much.

Thanks, I like to give more info. before I try that. This is my 2nd time down this road. last time the wifi stopped working I panic used the hold down power & up volume and used the wipe data/factory rest. All my data was gone, no big deal but lost the root explorer. wifi still won't come back on. Took it to the geek squid @ best buy. they just gave me a new one. Is there anything I should try before the factory data reset? And if I do try the factory data reset & the wifi still won't come on is there hope?

I think the "ad-hoc wifi switcher" might have replaced the wpa_supplicant file of the GT7P which caused the wifi fails satrt. The hard reset won't change it back. You may use the Rpoot Explorer to put back the original wpa_supplicant of the GT7P and make sure the permissions look like:

Wifi Codes for Android 4+
What I'm Doin?
This application allows you to change your phone's wifi country code ( which is set by your simcard ), to be able to see wifi networks on all channels. This application also helps people who can't see any wireless networks while the simcard is in their phone ( like me ) which is again caused by the bad country code.
What I Need?
1.You have to be rooted.
2.Anything else?
Ok cool, How To Get?
You can get the application .apk from here : http://d-h.st/bi2
I will be uploading the application on the market by the time the beta period is over and I'm sure that it works fine on every phone.
Ok gotcha, How To Use?
1. First make sure that wifi is on. ( will be fixed in next releases )
2. Open the application, and put in your desired country code to fly to!
3. You can see 2 main country codes which are already there for you, feel free to use them if they meet your needs!
4. Click `Change It`.
5. Now if it's the first time you are running this application, you will be asked for root permissions. Grant Please!
6. Now If everything goes well you will see a message which says that the country code is changed.
7. Go on and turn off your wifi and turn it back on.
8. You will see all the networks showing up.
Note:You don't have to do this every time the phone boots up... This only needs to be done once. Unless you factory reset your phone.
I can't see any wireless networks
It is caused by new android 4 roms arriving to the devices ( mainly htc phones ) which use some carrier and country specific files to set Wifi Regulatory Domain options ( which was present in wifi settings until android 2.3, but been removed from android 4 and later roms ). If your country code seems unknown to android system, then it fails to set right options and it fails to intiate wireless scan.
To solve this all you need to do is to change your country code manually to a known one, so that android system can determine what channels it should scan for networks.

Known Bugs
1. If you run the application when the wifi is off, then you will face issues and you will need to restart your phone. ( I'm trying to solve this, but I believe it's nothing with my application, it's an android bug )
2. You Say!
About Beta
This application is still in beta section, and won't get to final releases without the help of you guys.. Feel free to post here if you faced any issues while working with the application.
Hey
I just want to say thank you. I have been faced with this problem and it has been driving me bonkers. I've been trying to run scripts to fix, have tried wifix and others .. File permissions on wps_supplicant. All no luck
But your app here seems to be working. No more reboots and wifi has locked on for half an hour. Looking very positive
Thanks again

Well might as well give it a whirl and see. Will let you know my findings and recommendations
MAC address
Does this country code change affect the MAC address on my device ? I have applications that are sensitive to the MAC address and if this address is changed, it will cease to work. Otherwise, I want to try this ASAP. I also noticed that some of the wireless networks will be seen in the discovery, but I cannot connect to those. Can this country setting change fix my problem ?
Thanks
can't open the app with cm10 :/ downloaded it three times but it never worked...
Awesome
awesome job mate!!!and by the way can i juzt enter my country name or is there any specific code for each country pls list the countries and their codes..
no US?
Kudos!
Works Perfectly on the AT&T Motorola Atrix HD running stock ICS rooted.
ADHOC ?
will it show adhoc network also ?
it works !!
Thank you very much for the app and your information. :victory:
Helped me to run SlimBean3.0 using wifi channel 13 in Germany. Maybe there is something wrong with my simcard - but whatever, your little app made my day.
Will this be of any use to someone in the USA who doesn't travel outside the USA? Will the app enable ALL possible channels? Or is it useful mainly for people in a country who get a ROM which isn't properly coded for the channels in their particular country?
I'm not having any problems finding Wifi signal with the stock AT&T ROM, so far as I know. But if there are any wifi channels available out there in the USA that are not currently enabled by the stock ROM, this might be useful to me, if only to see them.
?
I've had a heck of a time trying to get wifi to stick on a sd card install of cm10 on my nook color,ya'll think this might help but i dont see any way to install app cause i cant get pass greyed out wifi and cant sign into google and no internet..thanks..
Thanks for this wonderful utility. Will be better if the app can display current setup.
Thanks again!
Thank you very much for the app
Thank you very much for the app
Does not work with my HP Touchpad running CM9, works on my Samsung Galaxy S2
Isn't work on Xperia Neo

No, It doesn't have anything to do with your wlan MAC Address, It just changes the country code. So It is safe to use in your case.

I think it can be almost any country code.. ( It has to be 2 upper-case letters.) ie. JP = Japan, EU = Europe, US = United Status, DE = Germany, UK = United Kingdom, ...

It does work with US. However setting to US, will enable channels from 1-11.
Hello Everyone,
I recently upgraded to CM 12.1 and discovered that my WiFi won't automatically connect to my router anymore if it doesn't detect access to the internet (I'm in China and Google is Blocked). I believe this explains why this is happening as there is internet and having to manually connect each time is annoying at least Is there a way to disable this "new feature" ?
Regards,
Bob
In Settings, got to WiFi, press the menu button in the top right and there should be an Advanced settings section or something similar (sometimes varies based on ROM/Language). Then untick the Avoid poor connection option. This should resolve your problem. If not, you may not have the correct firmware for 5.1.1
I already have Avoid poor connections unchecked. Any other way to fix this?
Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
Try disable mobile data before connect to wifi, maybe this way should help

I have the EXACT same problem - it really does happen because you're in China and the method of internet access testing is through Google servers blocked in here.
I'm still trying to figure out how to disable the test or maybe reroute the destination.
It would definitely be a temporary solution to make the VPN active 24/7 if you put it on the router instead of on the phone / computer etc.
Let us know if you find a solution!

this was a very popular and general problem for every Chinese user with google service device.
you have to root your phone and manually change the google server address to a local substitute site, or just turn off the google server detect.
the easiest way is to use an APK developed by Chinese to have all these things done in a click.
search NoExclamation Portal Server 1.5

came here with a google search. this problem is generic to later android versions. i'm on cyanogenmod 12.1 which is i gather is android 5.1.
looking at DNS logs, it tries to access: http://connectivitycheck.android.com - which redirects to google and fails as it's blocked by the GFW.
just downloading the chinese apk to fix it... the link to it i found is: http://m.hiapphere.com/apk-org.foxteam.noisyfox.noexclamation
EDIT: so now got noexclamation the app running, but not sure it's doing anything. UI is in chinese, not sure what options to deal with and how. anyone have success with it?
EDIT2: it's like this: install the app. leave it at defaults where it's using the developers website for connectivity check. toggle it ON if it's not already (i believe needs root). reset network settings by toggling airline mode ON/OFFl. you're good.
however - conceptually better fix would is to take the "feature" OUT, not alter the server that it's checking the accessibility of. from the chinese thread, i gather this will get done by:
su
settings put global captive_portal_detection_enabled 0
this seems to survive reboot as well. problem solved, end of monologue!
Hi all,
I've been trying to get family link working as my daughter uses this tablet. When trying to add her account the setup gets stuck in an endless loop never competing. Having read various threads from other devices, I think it's probably something to do with play services not having certain permissions. I would consider unlocking, installing twrp, magisk etc if required to fix, but I don't want to loose widevine.
The long and short is I can't use her account on the device at all as she's part of the family group - her account won't work at all without family link.
I wondered if anyone here had either tried this, or come across other odd behaviours relating to play services?
I'm running the Chinese ROM ziu 13.
Appreciate any thoughts.
Cheers Matt
Few things I have tried (and eventually got it to work) across 2x Lenovo P11 Plus (J616F)'s:
1st one was a factory reset and then instead of using my home WiFi, setup the device using a 4G hotspot from my phone. (Not a clue why, but my Home Wifi (Unifi Access Points) takes upwards of 2 minutes to get internet with the Lenovo's, even though all other devices are fine).
Second method:
factory reset and setup the device as "Offline" (i.e. dont input any WiFi details, button down bottom right saying "Setup as Offline")
Once gone through initial steps, connect to your WiFi, give it 10 minutes to update a few bits.
Open Play Store (DO NOT SIGN IN!), and press the three dots at the top right and goto updates
Let the device update all apps
When complete, try adding the childs Google Account (again, if this fails, try using a 4G hotspot from another device (disabling Wifi on that device first))
Hope that helps
Ok, that sounds pretty strange but I might give it a go. I just set her up a new Google account as nothing I could do could get the old one logged in. Thanks for your advice.
I suspect your unifi is running a shared ssid and your 5ghz is on an inaccessible band, are you always connecting at 2.4ghz? I had to change the 5g band on mine to even see it!

Only have my 5Ghz on normal bands (i.e. non DFS), even tried a separate 2.4Ghz Guest network, disabled WPA3, all to no avail. Not got a clue what caused it, my ISP doesn't block anything either (Zen UK)
Any other device was fine over WiFi (have setup much older Samsung tablets, newer kids phones) all with Family Link, it was just the Lenovo's that was stuck in a loop saying I needed to remove and re-add the account.
Just couldn't figure it out, and had already spent a few hours trying. Hoped the newest firmware would fix, but that didn't help either.
Hope it helps and good luck
Just playing around on the tablet and it appears that it struggles with IPv6 - could be that my hotspot is IPv4 only. Could be related to the loop it gets stuck in?
Not sure why it doesn't like IPv6 though as all other devices are fine with it...
I've just gone through full reset, then tried using 4g hotspot as you suggested. I have to use Lenovo app centre to get play store, then use play store with no login to update. That all works fine. Then add my daughters account. Then I get stuck in the same loop of not being able to register the device with family link.
In my case, I don't think this relates to internet access, I think there's something going wrong with the software / permissions on the device. It's genuinely very frustrating as I imagine it's probably not terribly difficult for the Lenovo Devs to fix.
