Hi I just recently got an HTC Desire HD and im new to android. I've been reading some of the other forums and I've become completely confused on what exactly the s-off, eng-off, rooting/unrooting, radio?? is.
I tried to root my phone but I end up with a CID error during the downgrading process.
I read that a new gingerbread official version leak has come out yesterday and there is a RUU or exe file that you can flash onto an unrooted HTC Desire HD and get the gingerbread to work but I have no idea how to flash it? I have an unrooted HTC Desire HD in India so its not locked with any carrier.
Can someone please give me a simple understanding of what the terms mean and how I should flash my device with gingerbread...I would REALLY appreciate it. Thanks!
If it's an RUU simply plug your DHD into your PC via USB, then run the RUU, That's it
im pretty sure this is a stupid question but do i need to turn the usb debugging on and would i connect it through htc sync or as a hard disk?
Also is there any way to do this on a mac or would it have to be done on a pc?
Figured it out...thanks

I have an HTC Sensation that I really want to turn S=Off and perma-root real bad but I have not found any method using Mac OS (Snow Leopard) ???? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have fastboot installed on my Mac and have rooted several Nexus S models but this is my first time around with the HTC Sensation.
Your going to have to install either Linux or Windows on the Mac with boot camp, alpharevx doesn't work with Mac and its a completely different can of beans than Nexus s. Nexus s has an unlockable bootloader from factory, sensation doesn't, thus sensation NEEDS alpharevx to unlock the boot loader, s-off, and perma-root

Go to a library or find a person with a PC... it shouldn't be that hard, everyone in the world but you has one...
And this is not the proper place to post this Dawg. Shoulda gone in Q & A, it kinda clutters up the DEV forum if we post threads liek this that don't belong here.
Bootcamp. Or borrow a friend's notebook for like 5-10mins. You won't require it after revolutionary.

Thanks for your help, I apologize for putting the tread in the wrong forum.
We need to stop answering questions on the development forums, make them be posted in q&a for answer
PC and your set. It really easy to do.

Will to donate to anyone that can do a remote session and permanent root my Sensation.......I can from G2x and its a big difference.
Every time I go into revolutionary it either can't find my device or it found my device but not able to connect at that particular time etc. Yesterday I got thru but when I put in my beta key it would only reboot twice and then say it got aborted cause it lost connection some how.
Again I'm willing to donate $15+ if you could permanent root thru remote session.
Thanks to all

Sounds like a problem with the driver or USB Cable.
Remove all drivers -> reboot PC -> Install Original HTC Sync Paket from HTC Homepage.
Go in SystemPanel and remove only HTC Sync not the driver package.
Try again
Deactiate Firewall and Antivirus
Windows 7 USer should deactivate UAC -> SystemControlPanel -> Security -> UserAccountControl

I'll help you out ... No need to donate
But I guess we are both 12 hours apart .. If you still looking, drop me a note
Just want to thank everyone for their help......I'M FINALLY ROOTED!!!!!!!
I had no issues the day it was released. But a few days ago I flashed a stock ROM to remove it, then re s-off'd my phone as people had found this improved battery life.
But EVERY time I ran revolutionx, it did some bits, but then kept saying connection lost, after the second reboot.
No matter what I did, it kept saying it.
But I noticed it had flashed s-off anyway and did say revolutionx in the bootloader, so it had actually worked, even though it didnt complete it fully.
I still have no idea why it kept doing it though.
Do I absolutely have to have the SDK and adb to s-off my phone? I know it sounds dumb, but the only reason I ask is cause I came from the Samsung vibrant forums and I rooted and flashed my vibrant without the need of ANY computer software. All from my phone. I really want to s off my phone, but the instructions are kinda flaky. Good, but flaky. Thank you.

Hi,
The instructions in the s-off guide in my signature are easy to follow.
Using ADB and SDK are really not difficult.
And installing them will help later on when you want to change your radio.
Yes they are needed.
Sent from my HTC Sensation 4G using XDA App
No, you don't need them.
You can S-OFF your phone using the revolutionary hack. You'll still need a PC with the HTC Sync software installed (ie, the drivers for the phone).
Have a look on http://revolutionary.io/ for tools and instructions.
That said, you might want to look into getting the SDK and ADB later on, if you plan to continue learning about what you can do with this device.
type *#*#3424#*#* and you will enter in HTC Diagnostic menu 3424 means (DIAG)
type *#*#4636#*#* and you will enter in HTC Info menu 4636 means (INFO)
type *#*#8255#*#* for launching GTalk Service Monitor 8255 means (TALK)
To boot your device in SAFE MODE, remove your battery, start your phone and press Volume Down key when HTC logo appear. Keep Vol Down key pressed until your OS is loaded complete. You will notice SAFE MODE in the left lower corner.
In this mode, none of your 3rd party application will be loaded.
Nice findings, thanks Thread should be sticked.
The ideea is to find THE secret combination to enable DM Command service into sensation.
I want to extract hboot in hex mode with QPST, and upload here for the persons who had the "luck" and the phone shows only Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 - in short BRICKED SENSATIONS.
I think i found a solution...for this problem.
DIAG menu doesnt work for me, maybe cause im using a 3.5 ROM?
I always wanted to know how to get into safemode.
But what's it good for?

As for general ideea, for what is needed safeboot?
A simple exercise for mind...**** can ALWAYS happen and you cannot boot and load normally your os - an app that lock your system, overclock...etc
With safe mode you can avoid these problems and repair your sensation.

I'm pretty sure that you need a specific HTC package (fieldtest.apk?) for this to work. Stock roms have this included by default, but chefs could have removed this from custom roms.

It would be awesome right now for me!!!
Do you succeeded getting the image?
Greetings
Cool stuff , thanks for the codes, btw to get into safe mode its not necessary to remove the battery if you have disabled fast boot
Thanks for the hidden menu commands. It made me realize that the vibrate on my htc sensation doesn't work. Although I don't use the vibrate feature and I usually leave it on silent while in meetings.
*#*#24324546#*#* aka *#*#checkin#*#* - checks for updates
Some of these might work too:

Wow! This stuff is great! What else is our sensation keeping secret from us? Thanks for sharing!
