[Q] Rom Manager question on 3.1 Transformer - Eee Pad Transformer Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello all this is my first post here. I have a question in regard to Rom Manager on the Transformer running 3.1. When I go into Rom Manager and click on backup rom, it asks me to install ClockworkMod Recovery. That isn't a problem except when I click Install it asks for me to confirm the phone model. Which phone should I select that will allow me to use backup on the transformer? There are so many different ones to choose from. lol
Thank you!

I may be wrong but I don't think ROM Manager is compatible with the TF...

Well crap that stinks. I hope that in the future there will be support for the TF.

i dont. rom manager sucks.

Why does it suck? The creator of ROM manager is responsible for creating Clockwork Recovery.
The TF101 Clockwork Recovery still uses his code. All the person did was port it to the TF101 but official support has not been supported as of yet.

Half of the time? On TF101, it has no support. On the devices, I've owned.. I've had NO problems with ROM manager. It's very helpful for beginners.
I personally don't really use it but to flash ROM Manager.
But I 100% disagree with you that ROM Manager sucks. And the fact that ROM Manager Premium is a top five paid app, more than 80%+ of the Android community disagrees with you.

Ever thought it wasn't the app and that it was your phone? It's a very outdated phone and its way past its generation.
Whatever you say, ROM manager & Clockwork Manager are made by the same person. So yeah, have fun trying to bash him but at the end of the day. You're still using his work

Edit: forget it. its like arguing with a wall.
dont dispute my opinions again.

I agree with zephik on this one, rom manager is a great tool for people with updated as well as outdated phones. I think the creator deserves payment from google for what he has given all of us android users. I got the paid version as soon as i realized what it was capable of doing.
Just my opinion, don't hate on me for it please.

How can you get into Clockwork recovery if not through Rom Manager?

Rom manager works flawlessly on my Nexus one

Why can't custom roms have OTA updates?

This has been something that I have been wondering for a while.

because OTAs will remove root, and screw up the recovery and most likely b0rk the rom

That is not what I meant. I meant why can't rom developers send there own OTA's so the rom can pick up on them and download it Over The Air.

I suppose they could if they really wanted to, but it isnt that hard to plug into a computer and just flash an update from your ROM maker.
I think roms in the past have tried it before, just didnt end up working out I think
Doesn't ROM Mgr sort of do this already? Track new ROMs and updates for you and let you download and flash them?
yeah basically ROM manager is quite literally getting an OTA update from your specific ROM developer. i see what you mean that you dont get a pop up from them. but for all purposes, you check rom manager for a new version, download it, and it flashes it for you automatically, all OTA.
Oh, this is too funny. I normally wouldn't bother, but I just watched this Cyanogen Mod V7 Preview demo video on youtube, and at the 3:42 mark he shows the screen that allows you to enable OTA notification of ROM updates.
So, the answer to the OP is that they can, it's just most don't choose to for one reason or another...
Correct. The latest CyanogenMOD 7 Alpha 2-2 released January 6, 2011 for the Nexus S now has an OTA option.
Well I need to look through the rom more and the reason I do not like rom manager is because I do not want to pay $5 just for that but thanks everyone here.

If you're using CM7 Alpha (latest), go to Settings then CyanogenMOD Settings, and it's there on top "Update Notifications"

I paid the $5 as a thank you to Koush for all his development support of the devices I own, not for the features of it - I hardly use it at all.
I do however use his CWM recovery, his root instructions and files, and he's the main dev for Cyanogen Mod on the NS. Several of my phones are much better experiences because of his work. He doesn't ask for direct donations, he just says "if you like my work, please buy one of my apps."
YMMV.
This is the first time I have actually used a koush rom but I do see where you are coming from. I just thought that titanium backup and root explorer were better deals.

Rooted & CWM: So can we use Universal 2.3.3 Rom?

Since we have root and a solid Clockwork Mod, can we use the universal 2.3.3 rom that is found in Rom Manager on our Tmobile G2x phones?

my updated, premium rom manager shows no universal 2.3.3 rom. where are you seeing this?
I wouldnt use any rom until something official is said the dev section because since the phone is so new it doesnt have the drivers in that rom just be patient. The development on this phone is moving quickly and I wouldnt doubt if we didnt have a working rom within the next week or two.
Found it by clicking on the Download roms button.

Rooting to 3.1 Your-New Transformer

Not sure if this should go here or General, Mod feel free to move if you think it should be moved ---
To all, This is what I found when rooting my Xformer--
1st ...I am not a rookie but I wanted the rooting to go without a hitch. So I read most of what was out there and choose what I thought would be best for me as far as the method for rooting.
So, I picked Apache's posting of how to root since I had a 4-24-11 build 3.0.1 I did not have to revert back, just needed to root the device and update
This is the posting:
Where to get the root packages---
http://androidroot.mobi/asus-eee-pad-transformer-tf101-root-cwm-recovery/
2nd I would recommend watching the video by Ayman019
Ayman019--- Root video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WaZ4B60OWmY
This is a great play by play
Finally, I love Supercurio's work it is very bugfree so I downloaded his updated rom 3.1 updated...... etc here:
Supercurio's rooted rom---
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112527
And his repacker if you want to have the tool that did the above ---
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1112527
I Pushed all the files through SDK/ADB. All went great until I tried to push superuser. At first, it would not recognize, so another xda member mentioned that sometime the remount is not seen, so I tried remounting 1st time, nothing ... the second time it worked
Awesome I am Rooted but ....... nothing could see the superuser, it would not allow anything access to superuser, so I downloaded Busybox and loaded it as well, still nothing.
Then I thought since I have superuser I should have recovery too. So, I proceeded to load Supercurio's rom on the sd card and then, manually went into recovery.....
Flashed the rom in recovery, rebooted....Voila' rooted, 3.1 and Good to go......
The point of this thread is remind people, that not all units react exactly the same, usually in adb everything works pretty much the same, but as you can see, not always.
So, moral of the story, the tools are here in XDA and the devs and other members have written great how to's and provide great advice, I thank All of them for sharing their knowledge.
BTW the Transformer is an AWESOME device and rooted you can really make it operate amazingly ..........

The other good thing is you end up with a stock 3.1 Rom rooted rather than flashing a custom rim from the start

Yes this is the an advantage and unless you are looking to over clock I think the unit works very well with the standard rom.

How about battery life? I know the tweaking done on my EVO made a huge improvement in battery life. Most of this comes with a custom kernal/rom though, but being rooted is obviously a necessity.

Overclocking, removing system apps, running slightly modded roms of Honeycomb 3.1, etc... There's no risk since the TF is unbrickable since we have nvflash.
Is there anything I can do if I flashed the wrong blob? I got root ok but CWM did not work. I tried to flash blobV5 but now adb cant write anything to /data. Since I have root could I simply use root explorer and terminal to run these commands?
I'm kind of stuck... I got as for as to issue the ./data/local/gingerbreakBB command...
I didn't receive any permission errors or anything but it's been siting there like it's waiting to finish (looks like it's thinking), one line so far that reads [*] vold: 0000 GOT start: 0x00017368 GOT end: 0x000175e8
But it's literally been sitting there for over 2 hours...
Android Ver 3.0.1
Any ideas? Anyone?
UPDATE: Nevermind... apparently even if your runnin 3.0.1 if it's not the right build you have to downgrade... got it... rooted!
hi all
I have rooted my TF to prime 1.5V. I enjoy it, but I have some problem in android market, I cannot download and install any software directly from android market, does anyone have such problem with android market after rooting and updating?(I use Nflash method, change SKU US to WW!)
do u have any suggestion?

There will always be a reason to root your device, since there will always be something you need to do that the manufacturer doesn't want or think you need.
Ok guys I just got my used never before rooted transformer and I need to know if my current version is able to be rooted! I've searched but with no results to answer all my questions. I'm no noob to rooting or xda so I kind of just need pointed in the right direction. Can some one look at my screen shot and tell me if I can use this thread to root with my current firmware version or what other thread I need to start off with. All help is greatly appreciated!

It's not that it's a bad produce per-se, it's that it hasn't been updated to work with the Infuse correctly. For THAT reason most devs dump on it. The other related reason is that it's not really a necessity item. It's more a convenience that for most, becomes more inconvenient. ;-)
Is there a thread that gives the steps to flash a ROM without ROM manager. I got it but not really sure I could again.

Just about all the ROM download threads have instructions for you.
Boot into recovery, wipe what you need to wipe, tell it to install a zip, done.
It's not hard to do at all.

I actually learned how to flash manually first before trying ROM Manager. I just liked it because of the convenience. No real big advantage to using it over the manual method just more convenient.
This recovery every one is speaking of, could it be the one created by Koush? Personally. Rom manager has been a great asset to me. It's like any other peice of code. It won't always behave the same way across a broad range of device's. I have no knowledge of cooking roms or writing code, but is it really necessary to make thread just to flame something? If you don't like it don't use it.
My 2¢.

Everyone uses Koush's Clockworkmod Recovery. The problem is that ROM Manager insists on using a crippled version of Clockworkmod ("green" CWM) that doesn't play nice with Voodoo Lagfix.
The problem is that instead of accessing whatever recovery the system comes with, ROM Manager insists on going to an "alternate" recovery (known as "green" CWM) which is crippled compared to the recovery included with almost all alternate kernels. Green CWM used to flash on any device with active Voodoo Lagfix = softbricked phone. It creates way too many support requests to developers, and also there's the issue I previously stated where downloading ROMs through ROM Manager causes people to go to ROM threads and not read the first post.
As to "if you don't like it, don't use it" - I don't, neither do any of the other devs. But other people do and we get all sorts of ridiculous support requests because of people who are too lazy to read threads on XDA, they want their ROMs spoonfed to them with ROM Manager.
Thanks for expanding my knowledge on the subject,

[Q] Rom Manager?

Im putting this here because im wondering if its an issue specific to this device?
Rom Manager ... when i was on my dInc there seemed to be a ton of ROMs available to download from RM.
Now i have this device, but it seems its just CM10 nightlies?
Is this just this device? or did RM just stop allowing roms to list or something?
thanks
The ROM developers must contact Rom Manager for their respective Roms inclusion within that application. From what I recall, in RM's early development stages, ROMs were input into the application which was not authorized by the individual Rom developers. Then a while lagter RM's developer trued up. That's why you don't see nearly as many Roms within the app. So no it is not the device, and no RM did not stop allowing Roms. The rom developers need to setup their roms to work within RM. Most don't allow it.
-Just my 2 cents from what I recall from memory-

Goo manager works well for nightlies through twrp. Though I think with all the potential problems that could arise with flashing through an app, I'd stick with manual installs.
