Replacement G2x Arriving Tomorrow! - T-Mobile LG G2x

So, I bought my G2x about 2 weeks ago, expecting it to have no problems...
But after a few days, I started having random reboots. I rooted it, and it still reboots, but only when the phone goes idle( or if I don't use it for about 15 minutes). That's unacceptable! So I called up T-Mobile, and they shipped one out. It should be here tomorrow. I'm hoping it doesn't have any problems.

It's a refurb - the probability of it malfunctioning is high.

Good luck with that... You did the right thing by requesting a replacement. If you just purchased this two weeks ago, you might consider returning it under the "buyers remorse" period and get your money back.
There are people here (me including) who have returned their G2x multiple times (as many as 5) and always been sent a replacement with the same issues.
Do some research, check the forum and understand your rights before deciding to keep a phone that may/may not ever work properly.

Eh, we'll see what happens. My dad's G2x doesn't have an problems, and I know that there's a good amount of people who don't have the reboot or screen bleed issues. I have researched, and I feel like once T-Mobile rolls out LG's fix, and the Gingerbread update, everything should be fixed. I'm not a fan of the Sensation. ( It's locked down & I HATE Sense.)

I have no reboots and got mine off CL. It even has the least screen bleed I've ever saw..

I hope I get lucky with this one, haha

I got a replacement G2X through Asurion when I got my original stolen. I actually got the phone in 2 days and it works great. The phone is refurbished, but you wouldn't be able to tell.
I don't have any problems with the phone at all. I haven't experienced one single reboot nor screen bleeding. I'm actually shocked considering I've heard so many horror stories about people returning the phone due to hardware issues. I just knew I'd receive a lemon, but nope...its been running fine.

Opinions on refurb Captivate

Hi, I'm wondering, due to the many shutdown issues people have even with new Captivates, would it be safe to get a refurb Captivate? Even doing exchanges with a refurb would be harder as it cannot be done in a store. And due to the nature of the Captivate, would there be a higher chance that refurbs were those previously having shutdown issues and exchanging would likely make no difference?
I've got a Refurb Captivate and I haven't had a single issue with it. I even upgraded it to Cog 2.3b6 and love it.
Just wish GPS worked better and it had a Bluetooth stack that could handle a wii remote. Of course that isn't a refurb issue, anyway. My refurb works perfectly.
Oh alright. I know someone who had the shutdowns with a refurb Captivate, though not serious. Exchanging refurbs is a problem because stock is so rare. Definitely not as convenient as those who bought from the store and have exchanged over and over. I read on some threads here that flashing Cog fixed the shutdowns for some. Is it possible?

I ordered a refurb and it did have the shutdown issue. The warranty department told me I needed to ship the old unit back, but tell them to send the new unit to you first.
It was a pain to get a new one, but the new one worked perfectly. Luck of the draw, I guess.
Very annoying with the refurbs
I am on my 4th captivate refurb. AT&T did a one time courtesy and swapped my Bold 9700 for a Captivate refurb. The screen was all scratched so they sent me another one. That issue was cosmetic so I'm not making a big deal about it. The second one they sent me was great for about 2 weeks, after it would shut off randomly with stock and Cog 2.1.6 stable. I brought that to a service center and got it replaced. This one had a problem with the speaker in the front and the back. It was all static and very irritating. Just got my last one a couple of days ago and I have not had a problem yet. Knock knock knock...
Once you're original phone s*#ts the bed, its bad news for you because AT&T/Samsungs quality control of the refurb units is poor at best. But they let you keep swapping them out until you find a good one so just hope for the best.
At the end of the day going to android was the best move I have made yet.

I have a refurb and have had no issues aside from unreliable GPS.
I bought a refurb and the first one I got had the random shutdown issues right out of the box. The first night I charged it, the phone was off in the morning and it only got worse from there. I got that replaced and have been good for about two months with it other than the GPS not tracking well.
I have a refurb captivate that worka great. The gps like all the others have issues as mine always say i am 30 meters from my actual location, but other than that its great.
The only real issue i have with it is getting used to the keyboard. I use an iphone 4 for my primary phobe and the captivate for a business phone and switching between the two is slighty awkward, but i will adjust eventually.
The leaked 2.2 froyo rom always is great on the phone.

Hmm.. what do you mean when you say they let you swap them out until you find a good one? Isn't it only for 30 days and the warranty a max of 90 days? And you're supposed to ship it back if you got it online? Is it possible to get a replacement from a service center?
My refurb Captivate works great. It's only given me one unexpected shutoff since I got it in October.
My refurb is working well. The only time it shuts off randomly is if I leave the USB door open. My GPS works well as well.
I must have lucked out, because my refurb came in perfect condition 2 months ago and hasn't had any shut down issues (knock on wood). Plus you can't beat the $50 price tag for a phone of this caliber.

Sure I can, mine was free since I have an employee discount on my account.
Warranty is a year for new devices and 90 days for refurb. Once you get a refurb your warranty is 90 every time you get a new refurb. And yes you can go to an ATT Service Center and get it swapped out. I have not had an issue getting replacements.
I was going to post the link but I can't so PM me for the att answer website for the list of service centers.

[Q] Has anyone received a refurbished inspire from att yet?

After returning my captivate for various issues 4 times, att offered me a different model refurb phone, but all of the options they offered me were very unimpressive. The CSR said they would be able to switch me out for an inspire as soon as they got refurbs in their warehouse. This was about a month and a half ago and every time I call them back it takes at least a half hour for someone to finally tell me they dont have any inspires yet. Anyone know how long it takes for them to get refurbs in stock and when I can switch for an inspire?
i'm not sure if i am getting refurbs or not through the ATT insurance, but they allowed me to switch my shattered captivate out for an inspire. Do all refurbs come in a dedicated ATT refurb general box?
The 2 Inspire's i have received from them have both been in the original packaging with everything wrapped in original packaging, all manuals, original plastic cover on the phone, etc. But, the both boxes had been opened, the sticker was torn. The refurb captivate i got from them was in a box that said "refurb" on it and didn't have original packaging and such. 90 day warranty on the captivate, 1 year warranty on the HTC from what they have told me.
So to answer you, yes, i believe there are refurb Inspires out there. Imagine how many people have switched between all the new android phones trying them all out. Those get used as refurbs too.
When did they send you the inspire for the captivate? I have not tried calling them in about a week or two. Also do you have the insurance that you pay for or was that exchange just through warranty?
i received my first inspire about a week and a half ago....second one was this past monday.
and yes, this is through the $5 insurance offered by ATT through a company called Asurion or something. Great company to deal with actually. a shattered captivate + 125 bucks is much better than paying for an early upgrade/using an upgrade/buying used
Well, as I see it, this is indicative of a good quality phone that people are happy with and keeping, for the most part.
I'm on my second inspire, but the first one went back for something rather minor, yet not proper... loose camera lens cover.
Having had a Captivate, it was a different situation altogether. There were obviously fundamental hardware defects that affected a large number of units. Random shutdowns and nearly non-functional gps, along with other inconsistencies from batch to batch.

YAY!! It's not just me! LOL!! Sorry - I've been dealing with this same problem for YEARS with AT&T's refurbished Pieces of crap!! SO, I Feel your pain!
I just ditched my X10 for the Inspire...And had to go all the way through Retention to get it. Ended up upgrading my line and my wife's line to new phones, and only ended up paying $79 bucks for each phone (She got the Torch, since she doesn't like NOT having a keyboard) then they paid for overnight shipping and we called it good.
I've found (through dealings with them A LOT) that the easiest way to get problems handled is through their retention people...while most of them will be MORE than willing to help you, After your 4th Device exchange, you SHOULD have been eligable to get a new phone PERIOD...or at least, that's what I've gone through with them.
Good Luck though - Maybe try their retention people and see what they can do for you...Just go through all the trouble shooting BS with them, and get to a point where you tell them that you want to Cancel...They are required (by some policy) to send you to that department...THERE is where good things happen

^I don't want to burst your bubble here, but most likely a refurbished unit is going to have *something* wrong with it. Every single Inspire I've played with at AT&T stores has had something wrong with it that has annoyed me, from slightly mis-aligned screens, to the volume/rocker buttons that are too recessed, to loose/creaky sim/sd covers, so the loose/wobbly cameras. Same for the captivate - the screen will be too blue, the side rails of the phone will bow out at weird places and then there's the obvious Achilles heel with the GPS. Even the 'magical' IP4 has certain problem areas like creaky home buttons and overly sensitive volume rockers.
I think your best bet, if you want the Inspire, is to press ATT for a new one, and pick it up at the store and inspect it before you take it home. That's probably the only way you'll get out of the seemingly endless return/exchange loop you've fallen into. And make no mistake, ATT keeps track of every phone you have swapped, regardless of whether it was their fault or yours and all of that is stored in a customer index score which may or may not prevent you from receiving 'consideration' in the future as you're definitely costing them more than the average customer due to these equipment exchanges.
I am in a similar boat, having swapped the Captivate now three times. I finally have a 'decent' one, as in the three-button combo works; the screen produces natural whites, and the GPS almost works. I'll take my chances with this as ATT will not swap for an Atrix (and judging from those forums, the build quality of that device is also questionable) and it seems the Inspire has similar teething issues. Not to mention the battery life/battery door/other annoyances that would just supplant the current ones with the Captivate.
(btw, see this post for an issue I'm sure neither of us would be too happy to encounter on our nice "new" refurb'd Inspires...

Exchanging G2X

My new battery TMobile shipped me made things worse so they are overnighting me a replacement G2X.
I'm not too optimistic with this phone at this point but did anyone's exchange actually end up problem free to where it doesn't freeze up randomly charging/in pocket and reboot 4+ times a day?
I have not had many problems with my G2x. I have my original one that I purchased. I did order another G2x when they were running them for free with a 2 year contract. The new G2x that I received had 2.3.3 and the updated kernel and I have yet to have a sod, reboots, overheating, or any screen bleeding. So hopefully the replacement you receive will be just as good the one I received about a few weeks ago.

[Q] How do I go about getting a WORKING phone from t-mo?

I purchased the G2X about 4 months ago and it's been nothing but a nightmare. I've been with t-mobile for 5 + years now and I've never had a bad experience up until now.
The initial handset worked fine but then the wi-fi stopped working. I tried EVERYTHING. I sent it back, paid the $20 fee and got a new one a week later. That phone started messing up as well. It started with random reboots (even after factory resets to stock) along with it freezing overnight (on stock rom as well). Now, the funny thing is right before I go to send it back I spill a TINY amount of water on the back of the phone. Out of habit I immediately pull the battery out... What happens next? The small droplets of water on the battery slide down RIGHT ON TOP OF THE WATER SICKER! /facepalm. I got to eat a hefty fee for that.
ANYWAYS, back on track, I get a new one (my third and current phone) and it does the SAME thing again. Freezing overnight, overheating, wifi is sketchy. I OC'd it to 1.2 GHZ and it runs fine and then stops working. Regardless if I fried it the damn thing wasn't working to begin with.
T-mo is offering to send me yet another handset (and another $20 warranty fee im assuming) but I don't want another one of these ****ty phones from them! Not if they keep failing on me. I've expressed this each time and each rep won't listen to me (or maybe they can't understand my English since they're all from India). Is there anything I can do? Or do I just keep going through this process. I hate this phone. Hate.
Has anyone else been having problems with tmobile? I remember loving their service back in the day... Sigh.
So you've obviously had/have root are using custom roms/kernels mixing and matching things around? Some of these are lemons that's without a doubt. I have no issues but you might just want to ask to be transferred to a manager or supervisor, get the fee waived or try and get a different phone replaced.

Keep pressing them. I raised holy hell with them and they replaced mine several times. I literally went through about eight or nine. (But I never waited longer than two weeks though.) I lost count. Out of those, I got two good ones. Problem free they were. Both of which I dropped.....now I have another crappy one. sigh.
But there really are good ones. People here are more than happy to tell you all about theirs LOL. Maybe you'll get lucky.
If you don't want another, maybe you can try for a replacement and you'll luck out with a NEW unopened one. This could be sold unopened and the proceeds used to get a Sensation or Galaxy Nexus.
But there really are some good ones out there. My estimate is 25% are good. Maybe a higher percentage of the newer ones? But the problems you describe are classic.....been there done that.
consumerist.com is a good source for executive email addresses............the squeeky wheel gets greased.
Thank you so much for that link. I'll go ahead and start e-mailing trying to get this resolved. I'm so sick and tired of sending phones back.
When the water got on the Water Sticker and you had to eat it and buy a phone, why did you by a G2x instead of something else at that time?

Because it was still under warranty and -ANY- damage that voids that will only cause them to charge you the $75 fee (+ tax). That was cheaper than buying my own parts to fix the screen or purchasing a new phone. They sent me a refurb one that is currently stuck in a bootloop =/
I have been through this before if you don't want the phone tell them to switch you into something that is the same in performance. They have to do it. After you have returned a phone more then 2times and don't let them tell you that you can't because its all bull go up the food chain if you have to

Class-action lawsuit targets LG over legendary G4, V10 bootloop issues

https://arstechnica.com/tech-policy...ets-lg-over-legendary-g4-v10-bootloop-issues/
About freaking time!
I will never buy buy another LG device again, every LG device I have owned has had at least 2 to 3 fatal flaws.
On the case of LGV10 I have experienced: Overheating, Failed Finger Print Readers, Image Retention/Burn in and finally the dreaded boot loop of death that is very real and common to ALL LGV10's and going back as far the G4.
I guess I was one of the lucky ones. Haven't had many of those issues. Only the image retention but since I started using the Blue Filter app, no more image retention. Been using this phone for almost a year and a half now. Did switch to the Note 4 briefly but came back to this phone. Love the fingerprint scanner, no issues with it, even with using Zerolemon battery & case. Also the always on 2nd screen is so useful.

No problems here either. Got it first day of launch. Still going strong.
Besides, LG is fixing the bootloops issue passed the warranty window. Wtf more do you want? They don't legally have to.
And when will people realize that class action suits only benefit the lawyers. It hurts the company which will hurt the consumers in the end.

my v10 is finally exhibiting signs of oncoming failure. It's randomly freezing now, and it's not a software issue since it still happens if I go back to totally stock with no root or extra apps installed.
I am on my third V10, the first two were victims of said bootloop issue
I have mine for a year now, without any problems...
I'm on my second V10 first had endless bootloop and this one has screen burn in.
Bought mine on launch (2015-10-31) finally bootlooped this past Tuesday and of course it happens 3 months after the warranty extension that others have reported. I didn't even hear about the warranty extension until it was already too late otherwise I would have had it looked at because of screen image retention/ghosting. Requested an RMA# so I'll see what happens after they get it.
Anyone know if they'll even care it was rooted when it died? Will they try to claim I broke it?
UPDATE: While trying to recover my data the phone stopped charging so it was completely dead when they got it. LG repaired my phone for free, not counting shipping, their turnaround was 2 days.
On my third, got my replacement and then got home and it was ****ing up already. Had another one sent out 3 hours later. This one is already ****ing up as well. It also has some ****ing malware that came with it that I cant get rid of no matter how many times I reset it back to factory. I was looking at getting the V20, but at this point I am probably going to go with an Asus Zenfone 3 Deluxe next.

No there not actually there simply replacing them (with other faulty unit) within their un-publicissd 18 Month from manufacturing date as opposed to only modern there one year from. Purchase Date so they have done exstreamly. Little and depending on what country we are talking about the likly broke some laws by continuing to sell the devices after they new thew were found. Faulty (witch we k ow as they admitted it) sound alot like a car dealer taking the bulb put out the cheack engine light before you bought it, I assume it this happened to you would see it as the rest of us see this
I got a refurbished one from eBay about 6 mos ago. Never had the bootloop issue but getting the image burned screen sometimes and it overheats and is very slow from time to time at that time I just reboot it. Other than that everything else is alright.

In my case I was looking for 64 GB or more internal + SD + removable battery, there aren't many phones with that combo left so yeah I'd easily buy it again at that price especially if it's New. It's still a nice phone and supposedly will get N. If not for the bootloop issue I could see this phone being viable for another 3 years barring some major tech change.
I saw someone on reddit mention they purchased their V10 using a credit card (Amex) that offers extended warranty coverage and they were able to make a claim without having to send in their - I presume dead - phone. So I'd highly recommend buying with a CC that offers extended warranty, if you are buying one, that way you have some peace of mind if you find yourself with a dead phone and LG has stopped free repairs.
My third V10 bootlooped again over the weekend. I was scrolling through Facebook and the phone froze. I pulled the battery and it just rebooted over and over... I went to my local T-Mobile store and the rep said that I was the third person to come in there within the past few days with the same issue. The rep also said that my phone was no longer under warranty and made a phone call to tech support to see what they could do. They agreed to a warranty replacement since I had this problem so many times before. I told the rep that I didn't want another LG V10 or any LG for that matter, however, in order to Jump I had to turn in a working phone. The rep told me they would file the warranty claim and as soon as the phone arrived in the store, they would let me immediately turn it in and upgrade. I was holding out until the fall to see if the Note 8 would get released but seeing as how I can no longer wait, I think I'm getting a S8+.

Paid 129 for my phone it has an image retention issue but. Seeing as I get a he'll of a lot of hardware for 129 I would not mind again and again
I just had to send my phone in to LG and get the motherboard replaced. It cost me nothing, had the phone at least a year and a half at that point. Called up LG and talked to a rep and said it started randomly rebooting and then wouldn't turn on, he knew exactly what I was talking about and knew of the issues with the G4 and V10. Followed a few steps online through their webpage and had no issues. Only downside is that it came back with Nougat on it, so no root or exposed yet.
