Exchanging G2X - T-Mobile LG G2x

My new battery TMobile shipped me made things worse so they are overnighting me a replacement G2X.
I'm not too optimistic with this phone at this point but did anyone's exchange actually end up problem free to where it doesn't freeze up randomly charging/in pocket and reboot 4+ times a day?

I have not had many problems with my G2x. I have my original one that I purchased. I did order another G2x when they were running them for free with a 2 year contract. The new G2x that I received had 2.3.3 and the updated kernel and I have yet to have a sod, reboots, overheating, or any screen bleeding. So hopefully the replacement you receive will be just as good the one I received about a few weeks ago.

Opinions on refurb Captivate

Hi, I'm wondering, due to the many shutdown issues people have even with new Captivates, would it be safe to get a refurb Captivate? Even doing exchanges with a refurb would be harder as it cannot be done in a store. And due to the nature of the Captivate, would there be a higher chance that refurbs were those previously having shutdown issues and exchanging would likely make no difference?
I've got a Refurb Captivate and I haven't had a single issue with it. I even upgraded it to Cog 2.3b6 and love it.
Just wish GPS worked better and it had a Bluetooth stack that could handle a wii remote. Of course that isn't a refurb issue, anyway. My refurb works perfectly.
Oh alright. I know someone who had the shutdowns with a refurb Captivate, though not serious. Exchanging refurbs is a problem because stock is so rare. Definitely not as convenient as those who bought from the store and have exchanged over and over. I read on some threads here that flashing Cog fixed the shutdowns for some. Is it possible?

I ordered a refurb and it did have the shutdown issue. The warranty department told me I needed to ship the old unit back, but tell them to send the new unit to you first.
It was a pain to get a new one, but the new one worked perfectly. Luck of the draw, I guess.
Very annoying with the refurbs
I am on my 4th captivate refurb. AT&T did a one time courtesy and swapped my Bold 9700 for a Captivate refurb. The screen was all scratched so they sent me another one. That issue was cosmetic so I'm not making a big deal about it. The second one they sent me was great for about 2 weeks, after it would shut off randomly with stock and Cog 2.1.6 stable. I brought that to a service center and got it replaced. This one had a problem with the speaker in the front and the back. It was all static and very irritating. Just got my last one a couple of days ago and I have not had a problem yet. Knock knock knock...
Once you're original phone s*#ts the bed, its bad news for you because AT&T/Samsungs quality control of the refurb units is poor at best. But they let you keep swapping them out until you find a good one so just hope for the best.
At the end of the day going to android was the best move I have made yet.

I have a refurb and have had no issues aside from unreliable GPS.
I bought a refurb and the first one I got had the random shutdown issues right out of the box. The first night I charged it, the phone was off in the morning and it only got worse from there. I got that replaced and have been good for about two months with it other than the GPS not tracking well.
I have a refurb captivate that worka great. The gps like all the others have issues as mine always say i am 30 meters from my actual location, but other than that its great.
The only real issue i have with it is getting used to the keyboard. I use an iphone 4 for my primary phobe and the captivate for a business phone and switching between the two is slighty awkward, but i will adjust eventually.
The leaked 2.2 froyo rom always is great on the phone.

Hmm.. what do you mean when you say they let you swap them out until you find a good one? Isn't it only for 30 days and the warranty a max of 90 days? And you're supposed to ship it back if you got it online? Is it possible to get a replacement from a service center?
My refurb Captivate works great. It's only given me one unexpected shutoff since I got it in October.
My refurb is working well. The only time it shuts off randomly is if I leave the USB door open. My GPS works well as well.
I must have lucked out, because my refurb came in perfect condition 2 months ago and hasn't had any shut down issues (knock on wood). Plus you can't beat the $50 price tag for a phone of this caliber.

Sure I can, mine was free since I have an employee discount on my account.
Warranty is a year for new devices and 90 days for refurb. Once you get a refurb your warranty is 90 every time you get a new refurb. And yes you can go to an ATT Service Center and get it swapped out. I have not had an issue getting replacements.
I was going to post the link but I can't so PM me for the att answer website for the list of service centers.

[Q] Has anyone received a refurbished inspire from att yet?

After returning my captivate for various issues 4 times, att offered me a different model refurb phone, but all of the options they offered me were very unimpressive. The CSR said they would be able to switch me out for an inspire as soon as they got refurbs in their warehouse. This was about a month and a half ago and every time I call them back it takes at least a half hour for someone to finally tell me they dont have any inspires yet. Anyone know how long it takes for them to get refurbs in stock and when I can switch for an inspire?
i'm not sure if i am getting refurbs or not through the ATT insurance, but they allowed me to switch my shattered captivate out for an inspire. Do all refurbs come in a dedicated ATT refurb general box?
The 2 Inspire's i have received from them have both been in the original packaging with everything wrapped in original packaging, all manuals, original plastic cover on the phone, etc. But, the both boxes had been opened, the sticker was torn. The refurb captivate i got from them was in a box that said "refurb" on it and didn't have original packaging and such. 90 day warranty on the captivate, 1 year warranty on the HTC from what they have told me.
So to answer you, yes, i believe there are refurb Inspires out there. Imagine how many people have switched between all the new android phones trying them all out. Those get used as refurbs too.
When did they send you the inspire for the captivate? I have not tried calling them in about a week or two. Also do you have the insurance that you pay for or was that exchange just through warranty?
i received my first inspire about a week and a half ago....second one was this past monday.
and yes, this is through the $5 insurance offered by ATT through a company called Asurion or something. Great company to deal with actually. a shattered captivate + 125 bucks is much better than paying for an early upgrade/using an upgrade/buying used
Well, as I see it, this is indicative of a good quality phone that people are happy with and keeping, for the most part.
I'm on my second inspire, but the first one went back for something rather minor, yet not proper... loose camera lens cover.
Having had a Captivate, it was a different situation altogether. There were obviously fundamental hardware defects that affected a large number of units. Random shutdowns and nearly non-functional gps, along with other inconsistencies from batch to batch.

YAY!! It's not just me! LOL!! Sorry - I've been dealing with this same problem for YEARS with AT&T's refurbished Pieces of crap!! SO, I Feel your pain!
I just ditched my X10 for the Inspire...And had to go all the way through Retention to get it. Ended up upgrading my line and my wife's line to new phones, and only ended up paying $79 bucks for each phone (She got the Torch, since she doesn't like NOT having a keyboard) then they paid for overnight shipping and we called it good.
I've found (through dealings with them A LOT) that the easiest way to get problems handled is through their retention people...while most of them will be MORE than willing to help you, After your 4th Device exchange, you SHOULD have been eligable to get a new phone PERIOD...or at least, that's what I've gone through with them.
Good Luck though - Maybe try their retention people and see what they can do for you...Just go through all the trouble shooting BS with them, and get to a point where you tell them that you want to Cancel...They are required (by some policy) to send you to that department...THERE is where good things happen

^I don't want to burst your bubble here, but most likely a refurbished unit is going to have *something* wrong with it. Every single Inspire I've played with at AT&T stores has had something wrong with it that has annoyed me, from slightly mis-aligned screens, to the volume/rocker buttons that are too recessed, to loose/creaky sim/sd covers, so the loose/wobbly cameras. Same for the captivate - the screen will be too blue, the side rails of the phone will bow out at weird places and then there's the obvious Achilles heel with the GPS. Even the 'magical' IP4 has certain problem areas like creaky home buttons and overly sensitive volume rockers.
I think your best bet, if you want the Inspire, is to press ATT for a new one, and pick it up at the store and inspect it before you take it home. That's probably the only way you'll get out of the seemingly endless return/exchange loop you've fallen into. And make no mistake, ATT keeps track of every phone you have swapped, regardless of whether it was their fault or yours and all of that is stored in a customer index score which may or may not prevent you from receiving 'consideration' in the future as you're definitely costing them more than the average customer due to these equipment exchanges.
I am in a similar boat, having swapped the Captivate now three times. I finally have a 'decent' one, as in the three-button combo works; the screen produces natural whites, and the GPS almost works. I'll take my chances with this as ATT will not swap for an Atrix (and judging from those forums, the build quality of that device is also questionable) and it seems the Inspire has similar teething issues. Not to mention the battery life/battery door/other annoyances that would just supplant the current ones with the Captivate.
(btw, see this post for an issue I'm sure neither of us would be too happy to encounter on our nice "new" refurb'd Inspires...

Anyone done an Asurion claim?

I know that tmobile isn't really doing swaps for the g2x, I'm not sure if they even have them in stock, some people have said they've had to get the mytouch 4g. Does anyone know if asurion have them available?
They have them available for warranty exchanges, it appears... I just got my replacement in the mail today(3 days after ordering the replacement) after being told it may be a two week wait. What problems are you experiencing with your G2x?
The only reason you should make a claim with Asurion is if you've lost or broken your phone. The deductible, itself, should be enough to warn most people of that.
It has a cracked screen
I got a replacement G2X through Asurion when I got my original stolen. I actually got the phone in 2 days and it works great. The phone is refurbished, but you won't be able to tell. There are no scratches or physical signs of wear and tear. They have the G2Xs in stock.
This was my first time using my insurance plan, but I'm glad I did now. You shouldn't be dissappointed. The deductible was $130 though.....beats buying a new phone at outright though.
Hope this helps!
I had no hassles with Asurion. My wife left her phone on a cab in Vegas. Filed a claim from the airport and got a replacement the next day.
The replacement they sent was a bit flakey, and the vibration motor made a kind of grinding noise. When i called them and explained the problems, they drop shipped me a second replacement with a return label. We had it the next day and the second one is as good as new.

What happens in Vegas...
I also had no problem through Asurion on the G2X, got a new phone though ( killed the G2X with water)
Yeah, Vegas is why I will always buy phone insurance from now on - I'd never lost or broken a phone priorly.
A word of caution, if you're ever in vegas and feel like passing out before everyone else, be sure your buddy isn't planning to bring a hooker to the room, you will be out a phone come morning.
Lol...brings back memories lol

Replacement G2x Arriving Tomorrow!

So, I bought my G2x about 2 weeks ago, expecting it to have no problems...
But after a few days, I started having random reboots. I rooted it, and it still reboots, but only when the phone goes idle( or if I don't use it for about 15 minutes). That's unacceptable! So I called up T-Mobile, and they shipped one out. It should be here tomorrow. I'm hoping it doesn't have any problems.
It's a refurb - the probability of it malfunctioning is high.
Good luck with that... You did the right thing by requesting a replacement. If you just purchased this two weeks ago, you might consider returning it under the "buyers remorse" period and get your money back.
There are people here (me including) who have returned their G2x multiple times (as many as 5) and always been sent a replacement with the same issues.
Do some research, check the forum and understand your rights before deciding to keep a phone that may/may not ever work properly.
Eh, we'll see what happens. My dad's G2x doesn't have an problems, and I know that there's a good amount of people who don't have the reboot or screen bleed issues. I have researched, and I feel like once T-Mobile rolls out LG's fix, and the Gingerbread update, everything should be fixed. I'm not a fan of the Sensation. ( It's locked down & I HATE Sense.)
I have no reboots and got mine off CL. It even has the least screen bleed I've ever saw..
I hope I get lucky with this one, haha

I don't have any problems with the phone at all. I haven't experienced one single reboot nor screen bleeding. I'm actually shocked considering I've heard so many horror stories about people returning the phone due to hardware issues. I just knew I'd receive a lemon, but nope...its been running fine.

Lucky for me

So I received another replacement and this one has the wi-fi issue - the previous five did not have this issue. I am so bummed. I have come to the conclusion that if the fixes/GB are not released by September, I am going to replace the G2X with a MT4G, give it to my wife, and with my wife's contract renewal (hers expires at the end of August) I am going to get the Hercules. Hopefully it does not come to this.
thats unfortunate. what issues did the other 4 have, the usual screen bleed?
The first one had really bad screen bleed, the others would reboot during calls (I'm an attorney, I can't have that when speaking to clients) and/or would overheat and shut down.
