[Q] Shutting down when in pocket? - HTC Sensation

Hi there,
I have the usual touch screen issues as well, but haven't heard of this one: anyone experiencing the phone shutting down while in your pocket?
I have this quite often meanwhile, and no use in saying it is annoying. As much as I'd love it to be a software bug, I'd suspect it to be a loose connection between phone and battery, maybe. Only once in a while I have a restart, but most of the time my phone is simply off. Pressing the power button boots it up again. I can even provoke it sometimes in my hand when I am moving or pressing the phone a bit.

Sounds like a hardware defect. I havent experienced such behaviour nor have I read any similar issues. I suggest contacting HTC.

My phone has also been restarting at random. It has happened more than 3 times today. On top of that, when it comes back on the apps on my sd card don't show their logos on my homescreen. I have to delete them and readd to get the logos to appear. Any ideas?

I'm experiencing the same issue. When I have my phone in my pocket it randomly shuts down. I don't know if it has something to do with battery contact. My experience was this only happens when my phone is under a certain battery level, like 40%. When I restart the phone everything its normal til it happens again and I boot it up the battery percentage jumps from 40% to about 18%.
The strange thing is when I try to charge, it charges up to 87% and it stops charging, while its still shows like it its charging.
only when I reboot it's shows 100%.
I haven't tried hard reset, maybe tomorrow.

[Q] Phone doesn't come out of standby

Hey everyone, is anyone else experiencing the phone not coming out of standby when pressing the power button?
I've experienced this 3 times now and overnight while left on the charger to use for my alarm clock, it didn't go off. I tried to press the power button, no go. I had to pull the battery out to get the phone going again. Good thing I still had my nexus one for the alarm.

This phone has been a pain in the arse. I have missed multiple emails because the thing randomly shuts off or locks in standby. I have had to pull the battery three times since yesterday.
Hope the magical devs get going on Gingerbread for our phone.
No reboots for me. I switched from NS because of the reboots and I needed a stable phone, but you may have faulty unit. If it's still giving you problems after a reset try to get a replacement. I'm getting insurance ASAP.

Where can i get insurance for this phone? Is it directly with T-Mobile?
I've had two non-responsive out-of-standby situations. The first one I was able to reboot, while the second I needed to pull the battery.
I've also had a single unrequested reboot this morning.
T-minus 29 days.
Insurance on these phones is only available at time of purchase.

No issues whatsoever for me either and I have had the phone since yesterday.
I've noticed it does it when it's on the charger. I've done a factory reset, uninstalled all apps except one to log the logcat and see how it does on and off the charger. I don't have a sim card in though, that and the apps are the only things I'm changing for this shut off test.
My first Android device! I had the same issue this morning. Just got the phone yesterday and had it on the charger overnight. It worked fine first thing in the morning but after a couple hours is shut off and wouldn't come back on. I had to pull the battery to get it up again.
I had this problem myself. Called LG and they said they haven't experienced this problem nor received any calls about it (bull****) . So I returned.the.phone for a new one and haven't had that problem since.
I had random reboots and my screen wouldn't come out of stand by. Usually happened after I didn't use the phone for 10 minutes or more.

The second occasion when mine didn't resume from standby is when I think I left Google Earth running. It's possibly a GPS-related issue, or something of that nature.
It's been nearly 24 hours since then, and one random reboot, but it's been solid otherwise.
forum over at T-Mobile is also tracking this issue.

I've fixed my issue by doing a factory reset and setting wifi calling to cell preferred. Seems like some issues with the phone software wise from all your answers

I encountered lockup once, but I don't encounter random shutdown/reboot yet.

Kampf you are wrong about that i am a RSA and you can get insurance up to 14days after buying the hone. I plan on putting the Lifetime warranty on the phone no need for the insurance as well.
I only have the issue when charging via wall. I rooted my device and used titanium backup to freeze a lot of junk that's constantly running including the wifi calling.
I also had the issue of the phone not coming out of standby after being hooked up to the wall charger overnight. It required a battery pull. Wifi Calling was turned on, like others mentioned they had.
I'm having the random lockups and the random reboots. This morning alone within an hour I had to pull the battery 4 times to get the phone to come back on. I've had it happen on charger and off charger. The odd thing is it never happens while the phone is in use, only when it goes into standby.
I've been having the same issues on standby too. The weird thing is that most of my reboots happen when have my phone in my pocket or when the lights go off after going into standby. It could be purely coincidental though.

Maybe some peoples reboots are on accident

Yesterday while toggling airplane mode I got a reboot. First yet and it was on gingerbread..i just had another one while accident pressing power for too long..
the phone reboots just holding power even if the screen is off. Maybe just maybe this button is getting pressed for too long I their pockets or just pressing power to toggle airplane mode and its rebooting. Or maybe something with this function bugging out...
Anyone else notice phone reboots just holding power for too long?
Edit:Im almost positive this is what caused my reboots
My phone was on the charger last night only for me wake up and it was off. Full battery when I powered it on.
Doubt its being turned off my accident.

As I said, some people.. Maybe some is legit but others are this issue..
Or like I said, something related to that. Maybe bugging out or something.. Just seems weird that holding power causes a reboot.
A lot of my reboots were spontaneous when I wasn't even touching the phone. Also when it was charging overnight.

Maybe somehow the phone off has a bug thinking the power button is being held in or just that function bugging out when the phone is off...
Dont know just a thought.but I'm positive this rebooted mine.
Definitively not by accident!! And the damn thing reboots by itself every 5mn for a few times while I was watching it doing that while plugged in, then turns off by itself in the middle oh the night, I'm getting another one, and another one until I get a working one with no light bleed. I'll receive my 3rd one in a few days.

Mine just did it again. I didn't have the problem on the stock rom, CM7, EaglesBlood or any other rom aside from the unofficial Gingerbread leak.
The rom itself it very nice considering CM7 has weird issues of its own, but resetting/locking up is a big no-no.
As I said earlier my phone was off this morning after flashing the leaked rom last night. I wiped several times this morning, flashed Eaglesblood, wiped again, and again, flashed the leaked Gingerbread, wiped and wiped again.
Set the phone up but didn't install any apps (testing). Cooked breakfast; fine, watched a TV show; fine, took a shower; fine, got dressed; fine, stepped outside for a second; locked up.
The phone was on because when I pressed the power button the touch panel lit up. The lockscreen showed for a second then went out. Then it was unresponsive. I held the power button down for a few seconds, which turned the phone off, then held it again to turn it back on.
Sucks. Must be the rom. Weird why the stock didn't do it, nor others. Others are claiming theirs are fine.
It is SO weird how these problems aren't across the board and are so random. Everything points to a kernel which wasn't included in the lacked build. Hopefully when the official one comes out, we'll get an updated kernel to go with it.
I think it's the overheating problem. My first phone was very hot and had 3 reboots in 5 days. New one I have has no reboot yet and doesn't get as hot like the other one. PCs get BSOD or freezing when overheating. G2X gets Black Screen of Death and freezing.

This could very well be. especially since a lot of people have reboots when charging and that generally makes the phones temp higher...
Luckily I'm good...
If I had the rebooting problem, I would definitely exchange my device. I haven't had any reboots or freezes though.

[Q] Random reboots on pressing wake button?

Hi all,
Right, my phone isn't rooted as I just sent it off to HTC to have a look at - to no avail - they may just have reloaded the ROM which was wonderful
Anyway, for a while now I've been having issues whereby, normally whilst the phone is on low battery (~15%), pressing the power button to wake the phone will result in the screen staying black, before after 2 seconds, rebooting to the HTC logo.
I expected this to be a hardware error, so simply loaded my apps and settings back on as soon as it was returned. Is there any possibility that it may be something other than a hardware error that could cause this reboot, such as the SIM card or a particular app?
It's absolutely doing my nut in
Cheers,
James

Tried with two batteries, tries wiping the battery stats. Also occasionally happens with high charge so it doesn't seem a battery issue.
Cheers though.
I'm having a similar issue from time to time. I've been lucky enough to not have this issue for the last 4 weeks or so but 3-4 days ago it came back. But I think I solved it, at least temporarily.
Next time it crashes, remove the battery and while the back cover is off, press and hold the power button for ~10 seconds to drain what little power is left. Then put the battery and cover back on but don't turn the phone on. Instead, charge it until the led turns green. I'm not sure if this really is a fix but since I did this it hasn't crashed. I remember doing something similar back in January and it seemed to fix the issue then too. But it seems to come back over a period of weeks/months.
PS. Now that I think of it, maybe you don't have to wait for it to crash. Just turn it off and go through the steps and see if it helps.

Hi, i know this is an old thread, but I have the exact same problem on my Desire S. So i'm wondering if you ever solved this problem?
When you press the wake button, the phone doesnt restart, it just boots up. It is quite a known issue. There seem to be a design flaw that makes the battery just a little bit loose. So little that its not really noticealble, but enough to.cause the phone to turn off randomly. The solution is to place a.little piece of paper on the opposite site.from the battery connector pins. It makes the battery hold really tight, and ive never had this issue ever again.
Hope.i.could help.

I had similar prob
I used to have lots and lots of apps installed on my phone ALONG with all the tmobile apps since my phone is NOT rooted.
At some point on, my phone would constantly reboot from the white screen with HTC logo.
Then I thought maybe i'm over doing my phone, so I tried uninstalling some of the apps that I don't use as often.
It helped me...
hope it helps you too =]
Look for a video named "HTC sensation random shutdowns/reboots problem SOLVED" on Youtube. I can't post any link as I'm a new user, but this simple fix worked for me!
Apparently this issue has nothing to do with software updates or custom roms. It is just a design flaw that prevents the battery from connecting completely to the pins

Phone randomly turning off?

This is something that has really started to annoy me, It started happening I guess since I put stock ICS on, You take the phone out of your pocket and its turned off by itself, Or even when randomly using it, it just decides to turn itself off, its not a reboot it doesn't come on again. It has done this 5 times today.
I have also noticed when using the phone for any amount of time on the back beside the USB port is roasting hot, to the extent I can still feel the heat when I put it in my pocket.
Anyone any ideas on the issue,
probably it seems battery related
check if the battery fits as it is suppose to be
I had a big problem with this soon after I bought the phone (used).
The fix was fold and cut some kitchen paper and place between phone and battery.
Never a problem since.
Of course, your problem may be software related, if you made changes. Go back to old software if you can.
Good luck.
I've had it, flashed custom Rom and never occured again

Also, if nothing else works (seriously, probably just bad contacts of the battery, so the paper advice should work), there is a rare problem with the phone rebooting (not shutting down, but all is possible) when it switches to 2G, so locking it to WCDMA only could solve it.

I put Viper ROM on at weekend at it happened today, I was using the Gold 2450 battery, I might try the original and see what happens
That happened to me on aosp jb, now I'm on sense jb and so far so good. It only happened when the battery was close to empty
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e
Im having trouble working out what the issue is, I changed the battery yesterday, took it of the charger just now to discover the phone had turned off again
Nevermind, it's even worse now. Here's what happens:
1. I charge and drain the phone to 1% when it turns off but gives me a warning
2. I turn on the phone again and it shows 16%, but turns off without warning way before 1%
3. Every time I turn it on again, it shows a random battery charge (2-10%) and turns off without warning randomly
I don't know what's going on. It's like the calibration is messed up but it shouldn't be since I calibrated the battery. I'm going to buy a new battery and see if that fixes it.
Edit: Actually, I'm gonna go back to ICS, and then to a stock ROM first (not sure which one is it)

Well, that battery is very cheap and poor to be honest.
If they lie so much about the mAh of the battery, I wouldn't trust that battery at all.
Well, try another rom maybe?
ViperS was super-stable for me.

Help - One X will not stay on

Right guys,
I was just updating some apps on my One X, left it to its business and came back and it had turned off, so turned it on and it seems to load to the lock screen and then the screen goes blank and the phone turns off.
I have had it on charge (mains), tried the recovery, that doesn't help and I have tried a factory reset (when you hold the power and volume button) that doesn't work either.
Every time, just about gets to the lock screen freezes, goes blank and turns off.
It is totally stock software and hardware.
Locked to EE (Orange) network in the UK
Any help please?

Sorry, it is totally stock, not rooted or anything like that.
Just edited my first post too, sorry I was in a rush when I wrote it.
More info:
I have noticed that sometimes the little LED flashes red then green then pauses and repeats. I have seen this is an overheating problem?! The phone feels cool/warm to the touch, I know when playing the odd game the back of the phone gets really warm and it's no where near as warm as it can get.
More info:
Had it on charge overnight from the mains and it doesn't appear to have taken any charge, when it loads the lock screen it will show the battery level and when I press the power & volume buttons it tell me the battery level is too low.
Thanks again!
Mike
I've been having the same kinds of problems for months now.
I only use my OneXL for app testing fortunately, if I needed it as a normal phone I'd have given up and bought something new.
It often reboots after an hour or 2, even if it's doing "nothing", not even running any app after a restart.
Maybe it's overheating or something, but it seems more random to me. I was going to say that smacking it a bit doesn't cause any problem, but I just tried it now and it died. So maybe a PCB is cracked or there's some cold solder joints.
And yeah, the phone acts like the battery is dead. Again tonight I tried to boot it several times before it started up OK. It can end up dead but "powered" so I have to remove USB plug and hold power down 10-20 seconds to boot again.
I dunno, to me the phone is just broken, in effect.
I have had this same problem in the past with mine. Try disassembling it and pulling the battery.. then reassemble and see if that works, or could be a faulty power button
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Hmm.
I just updated with the latest RUU for the HBoot or whatever, and it looks like the reboots may have stopped !
Crosses fingers for luck...
