IRC log of brief convo with TeamWin dev. Personally, I think his comments are bad news, since we're relying on 'hope' on the radio check...this thing is tighter-locked than I'd imagined.

I think what he has done already is alot. I mean alone my battery life has doubled. I can go a good 14+ hrs on heavy use and still have plenty of battery. plus i have over 350MB of free ram at most times. I can deff wait for him to get the rest done.

Nice! My battery also improved. Can you ist what apps you disabled to get all tthat free ram? I disabled a few but still have around 150mb free so there's alot running in the background. Thanks in advance.

15:20:04 <@W4lth3r> indeed pinPoint
15:20:16 <@giorgis> agrabren!
15:21:00 <@giorgis> agrabren, how's fre3vo^2 going?
15:21:13 <+pinPoint> ??
15:21:14 <+agrabren> I've been focusing on Fre3Dom today...
15:21:22 <@giorgis> ah, even better
15:21:24 <@giorgis>
15:21:29 <+pinPoint> instead of having some beer and steak agrabren ??!!!
15:21:36 <@W4lth3r> agrabren: !
15:21:42 <+agrabren> We ran into a few snags with fre3vo^2 and most of us think getting S-OFF is more important
15:21:53 <@giorgis> is there a confirmed way for fre3dom to work?
15:22:16 -!- mode/#sensation-devs [+v grantland] by Sensation-Devs
15:22:19 <@giorgis> agrabren, definitely
15:22:28 <+agrabren> Not yet. We've discovered some of their protections, though.
15:22:54 <@giorgis> good to hear
15:23:10 <+pinPoint> protections that guarded s-on?
15:23:29 <+agrabren> Protections that guard against flashing a signed eng bootloader.
15:23:49 <+pinPoint> do we even have a signed eng boot?
15:24:03 <+agrabren> We do for the EVO 3D, but it doesn't matter. It won't help either team.
15:24:17 <+pinPoint> how so?
15:24:26 <+pinPoint> because we cannot flash it?
15:24:29 <@giorgis> pinPoint, we only have an unsigned one...
15:25:00 <@W4lth3r> agrabren: you cant even flash a signed eng hboot ?
15:25:06 <@W4lth3r> neighter if its signed by htc?
15:25:21 <+agrabren> If you flash an eng signed hboot, it apparently still rejects because the radio reports S-ON
15:25:37 <+pinPoint> dang, all types of protections
15:25:43 <@giorgis> oh, correct..
15:26:27 <+pinPoint> agrabren: are you able to discuss what approach your team is taking or is it hush hush for now?
15:26:47 <+agrabren> I'm personally looking to attack the radio itself.
15:27:10 <+pinPoint> attack?
15:27:15 <@giorgis> agrabren, is there any hope that this will succeed?
15:27:25 <+agrabren> There's always hope, or I wouldn't be wasting my time.
15:27:31 <@giorgis> true
15:27:34 <@W4lth3r> giorgis: ofc everything can be passed by
15:27:56 <+pinPoint> agrabren: is emmc proving to be more problematic vs evo4g's?
15:28:00 <@W4lth3r> like real life, shoot down the soldier and walk trough.
15:28:24 <@giorgis> indeed
15:28:28 <+agrabren> It's not eMMC that's a problem. It's the boot rom with the radio.
15:29:49 <+pinPoint> hmm...
15:30:11 <+pinPoint> so what is the difference between hboot, s-on, bootloader
15:30:21 <+pinPoint> I must be missing something
15:30:26 <+agrabren> Ok, so the radio controls S-ON/S-OFF, called @secuflag
15:30:34 <+agrabren> HBOOT asks the radio if it should be S-ON or S-OFF.
15:31:03 <+agrabren> The problem is, there is a boot ROM with the radio which checks for S-ON, and if so, verifies the HBOOT is production.
15:31:09 <+agrabren> (That's what it appears to be)
15:31:30 <+agrabren> Most of the recent hacks attack HBOOT, and make it ignore whatever the Radio reports for @secuflag
15:32:09 <@giorgis> so we can't put an s-off hboot that will ignore radio because the boot rom will detect it right?
15:32:16 <+agrabren> Yup
15:33:02 <@giorgis> and when does this boot rom runs, is it the boot.img of a rom (i know i may be talking bs now )
15:33:39 <+agrabren> It's in the radio, it runs before the bootloader (HBOOT)
15:33:42 <@W4lth3r> i bet agrabren fixed s-off before i got my sensation anyway
15:33:54 <@giorgis> ah ok
15:34:16 <@giorgis> got it now
15:35:51 <+agrabren> Ok, gotta run. I'm actually trying to get some hacking in before dinner.
15:35:56 <+agrabren> Got family coming over
15:36:07 <@giorgis> nice
15:36:43 <@W4lth3r> agrabren: don't brick ur evo
15:36:52 <@W4lth3r> and have a good time :>
15:37:19 <+agrabren> Thanks. Later.

i wanna know what you disabled too. I got more ram, but nothing close to 350megs...
this is not bad news, its just gonna take a little longer, thats all... Lets not forget that HTC also promised S-off so who knows, they might even come in faster than team win (highly doubt it though.

If htc have no idea to s-off the devices why make a promise to update the locked bootloader? Losing trust in htc though. Making a promise that they cannot keep. Words are words but action talks louder than words.
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e using XDA Premium App

whats key are the words they chose :/ they said that all FUTURE devices will be S-OFF and this was post-S4G and evo3D production started...
they also DID say that sensation and evo3D will recieve bootloader unlocks, but i think they will either discontinue efforts and let teamwin do all the dirty work, or support them but not pushing OTA security updates (fingers crossed )
the thing that kills me is that HTC came out and said thet the evo3D bootloader would be unlocked out of box, and so far almost every one is S-ON

[Q] How will HTC unlocking bootloaders affect our phones

Guys, I've read it about 50 times in the past 24 hrs - MAYBE HTC will re-consider their bootloader locking policy. My question is very simple - HOW WILL IT AFFECT PHONES THAT HAVE ALREADY BEEN PURCHASED???? Will we get S-OFF too? How?
i don't think it will affect desire and incredible s, they are too old now and the main buying hype is already in the past
dunno if htc cares so much about them to unlock

You're **** kidding me... the phone (Desire S) was launched 2 months ago and is already old????
well WHEN will they unlock the bootloader? Evo 3D coming, Sensation here.. they got enough new things on the market in that time they won't care about the DS anymore

You lack enthusiasm...obviously you don't own a DesireS.
We'll going to make sure that HTC will going to attend to our needs. So much so, it will going to be in their faces.
yea i don't got a desire s, just got a DS lying in front of me and was the first who found the way with misc_version to downgrade if u read my posts
or maybe it's a stealth & shrinked incredible s / desire hd, who knows?
i hope HTC will not lie to us (Desire S & Incre S owner)
and they will release OTA update that can unlocking Bootloader
just like SE
poor my Saga
there's so many reason to root
why lie geek_seeds? they never said they will unlock it
this guy only posted 100 times that thay MAYBE will REVIEW their bootloader policy... that means nothing and only makes wrong hope
Could be,
But if we all call the helpdesk maybe then they will lisen`t.

the skyrocket should be here any day now.
O o you have a vivid. Whatcha think about it honestly? From what ive read skyrocket blows it away. But who knows
the vivid is nice, but htc lying to us about the bootloader is beginning to piss me off immensely.
i have a rom built for it, and i cant even flash it yet.
i have a rom built for the skyrocket, but the difference is that i will be able to flash it as soon as its in my hands....
I had the evo 3d . With hboot 1.5 which was locked but htc put a way on there website to unlock it as they called it. We could flash roms with cwm but had to fastboot flash kernels so we had to use the pc to get into fastboot ... did they not do the same for the vivid?

ha!.
the vivid is the exact same thing as the htc raider in canada. if you take a canadian htc raider, go to htcdev.com you can unlock. if you take a vivid and go to htcdev.com, and try to unlock you get an error 170. CID not allowed. aka, AT&T is involved somehow with the locked bootloader. numerous attempts have been made to contact htc in regards to the locked bootloader, and we keep getting cut n paste responses from their 'CSRs'. "please watch htcdev.com for an unlocked bootloader in the future"
their time is running thin. people are giving them 30 days, if they dont unlock, the vivid community is going to be barren.

well guess what u r still waiting for ur rocket while i hav mine and i tried it and still it wouldn't let me delete the boot animation file or past the nexus boot animation. So i think you can probably figure this out when you get the phone. And looking forward to see that ROM of urs in Dev forum.
I hear that. But there was no way to unlock the evo3d at first either. Everyone was pissed, and someone started a petition got like over 100000 signatures on htcs facebook, and they were hardcore trolled non stop with everyone thretening to reaturn the device. But it worked because like 2 days later htc released a statement. they were unlocking it , And they did ( kinda). Then said future devices would have unlocked bootloaders. Lol looks like they lied in this case

ICS Update coming to O2 Possibly in next week or 2

Dunno.
If it's true - awesome! And if it's not, it's just Dylan (don't know the guy - no offence to him) getting his rocks off at the cost of others. The initial reaction to any news that sounds exceptionally good is a mixed bag - some are ecstatic, and believe anything, while the more skeptical start flaming it. Then there are those that don't bother much - because one way or the other it's gonna make its way over to XDA anyway. It'll happen when it happens, and without concrete evidence, like screenshots or even better, pictures of a DS running stock ICS, it's asking for too much faith. Maybe if Dylan or his mom would be so kind as to click a pic or two??
But thanks for sharing the news. Just like you, I hope it is true. - though my fingers are very, very crossed!
My fingers are crossed too but I have a feeling If I asked for a photo he would say that he's not allowed to leak pictures! Who knows. If there is anything you'd think xda would get a leak first! Who knows we'll just have to see
as I've said before, if I can't see it, it doesn't exist!
and lets not start about God and Gas etc....

You're quite right with that attitude to life. I can't see you so you obviously don't exist either

My friend who has a Sensation got the ICS update 2 weeks ago.
It's so funny how he doesn't give a flying crap about the update at all, and I've been drooling over the release since February!
I asked him what's new about it, and all he could tell me was the new dock bar, and a slight speed improvement...
I felt like crying
I suspect the update will hut by the end April/ start May. XL users are already receiving it!

once the update comes won't they be able to use the new kernel to make an also perfect port of the Primo s rom? I like sense 4 and I'd rather have that then sense 3.6 Because its really fast
OK, thanks for the news. I highly doubt that carrier locked phones would get the update first, which either means that it's not true, or unlocked phones will get updates even before the 2 week period It does seem to fall perfectly on the "early May" ETAs given by everyone.
@Bruce Olee - My friend has a Galaxy S II. When i told him that an ICS update is about to arrive, he asked me why he should upgrade. I told him every single feature, but nothing could convince him to upgrade except one which he considers very "useful" - Face Unlock. Now he can't wait for it
PS - If you know that dylan guy, get his device and give us a system dump. Would be as good as an RUU.

Agree... I believe HTC will deliver the update to carrier branded sets first, and only then deploy it for retail handsets. Read about this somewhere recently, but can't quote source offhand. Even I believe the network unlocked phones will receive the update in the later waves...

Hello Jamie, sorry to disappoint you but her phone is actually running 2.3.5 with Sense 3.0. I hadn't previously taken a look and my mother thought it had ICS because of the ring on the lock screen. She clearly doesn't know the difference between OS and UI just yet as she's not had the phone long. Again, sorry to disappoint, I sincerely apologize to you and XDA. I did however overhear at O2 that the Desire S was going to get its long-awaited update within the next few weeks, so stand by on that.

Nobody working on s-off

I've been looking around the internet and I see no progress on s-off. It looks like the one x is close but why is no one willing to work on s-off for our one s. I've heard talk of piggybacking off the one x s-off solution but that is getting us no where. If I had the ability and know how that's what I'd be doing so can't one of our few dev's stop making ROMs and make some real progress on this. I have a lot of respect for our developers don't get me wrong but why not work on something that'll make a big change. That's the way I see it and I figured maybe by sharing my thoughts and people getting on board we can get something done on this phone. I'm tired of having to flash boot.img's in fastboot and I'm sure others with higher hboots are sick of it too. Its a big inconvenience for people who are not always home and downloaded the latest ROM over WiFi. Doesn't s-off make it easier for the devs so why not?

I've been looking around the internet and I see no progress on s-off. It looks like the one x is close but why is no one willing to work on s-off for our one s. I've heard talk of piggybacking off the one x s-off solution but that is getting us no where. If I had the ability and know how that's what I'd be doing so can't one of our few dev's stop making ROMs and make some real progress on this. You can constantly update ROMs and never be done so why doesn't somebody just finish something for once and get us s-off. I have a lot of respect for our developers don't get me wrong but why not work on something that'll make a difference instead of continually adding changes to your ROMs from cm. That's the way I see it and I figured maybe by sharing my thoughts and people getting on board we can get something done on this phone. I'm sick of having to flash boot.img's in fastboot and I'm sure others with higher hboots are sick of it too its a big inconvenience for people who are not always home and downloaded the latest ROM over WiFi.

Wow, show some respect to the developers. They are not you lackies, and just because they make roms doesn't mean they can magically create S-Off. Oh, and just because they don't publish a progress report doesn't mean that there are not devs working on it.
I'm sorry I went too far there And I deserved it but a progress update would be nice don't you wanna know where were at?

You should have seen how feisty people got in the Amaze forums a while back hahaha.
We're never going to get s-off. Not enough developers. It's hard work. Don't complain, at least we HAVE developers working for our device.

What I was saying was if some of our dev's took time off making ROMs they might be able to get us s-off. Go look at one x forums and it'll make you a little mad....

That forum was crazy...
And there's a HUGE difference between a rom developer and someone who could actually get S-off on a device. Not many people can do it.
Technically, ROM makers are considered "chefs" and being a developer is actually more work isn't it?

There were even less developers on the Amaze yet they achieved it.. took a while, but it happened. I remember checking the bounty thread like everyday lol. Same exact thing for the mytouch 3g slide, there were even less than the amaze back in the day. they achieved it too though
This kind of talk is so depressing for people like me who were on the fence about getting this device lol. When I had the offer to get the HTC One S I first looked in these forums and seen a lot going on, so I thought it was well supported but it wasn't til after i got it that I dug a little deeper to find out things like this. And now here I am stuck with the higher hboot. Very depressing but hey, it's still one of the best phones out. It just seems it is gonna turn into an EOL device. Pretty soon everyone we'll say to hell with it and go to a nexus only attitude!

True, even though by the time they got S-off I sold my Amaze for the One S. I feel like their was more motivation for S-off in the Amaze their was more talk. We don't even have a sticky discussion thread like the Amaze did.
Don't complain and be happy that we are at least able to flash boot.img. Look at AT&T One X forums. They are not even able to unlock their bootloaders with the latest hboot.

If you don't understand the difference between a Rom developer and a team of people that can break the security created by large multi-national corporations maybe you don't have a right to complain?
Besides the majority of the need to do it has already been removed. The only real reason that you would want to do it now is to not unlock the bootloader through HTC dev and we already know the method to avoid that anyways.
Just a run down on what we CAN do with s-on
Root
Unlock Bootloader
Change Radios
Change Kernels
Super cid
And most phones can SIM unlock also
What exactly are you hoping S-off will achieve?

I stayed a while after they achieved S-OFF, then I sold the phone for a nokia n9 and then traded that for the iphone 4 then traded that for this phone hahah
yeah, they sure did have motivation, I guess people are getting sick and tired of achieving something that we shouldn't have to achieve. almost every other manufacture allows their bootloader to be unlocked, etc. HTC is going to have to make more changes if they want to succeed in this market.

Yeah but the time it took to get to this point distracts dev's from even considering purchasing this phone. DOA

..Change recoveries.
We do have a big difference between the 'old' and 'new' hboots, tho.
The older ones can flash pretty much anything from normal recovery. The newer hboots are way more restricted. Even if we can't get permanent s-off, it would be very nice if we got the means to downgrade hboot to 1.06 or 1.09.

Great idea! Let us know when you get us s - off...
One, as previously stated that is a serious pain especially when there's no good place to start. It's completely different than making roms. Next I had the amaze long after they achieved s-off which people threw hundreds of dollars and hours into... Guess how much changed because of it? Nothing really changed. And so here you are asking devs who already take tons of their free time to do this for free. And you're asking them to go out of their way to do more so you can save 60 seconds when you are flashing a rom. This sounds incredibly lazy and selfish. It's not that hard to go to fastboot and flash a kernel. If you want s-off you should have at least made a better argument than that you're lazy...

Its not the fact that I'm lazy its the fact that I'm never really home to be able to access my computer I work almost full time and go to college full time maybe you shouldn't call someone lazy before you know the real story it makes you look bad if I had more time to get on a computer I wouldn't have made the argument in the first place. I'm not here to start arguments I'm here to get something to change and if all your going to do is jump my **** then go somewhere else.

I too am in this thread to get something to change. I want people who work almost full time and go to college full time to stop what they are currently working on and start working on S-OFF. Seems like a dumb request huh? That's what you're asking the dev to do......

I get ya, but it really came across as, it's a pain to boot to fastboot to flash a kernel. Which sounds incredibly lazy. Because it doesn't take long at all. I probably came across harsh I get that. But at least if you're asking devs to do something for you at least offer something, some help, suggestions, time, donations, something. I don't think it's good practice to come in asking devs who are busy and already do all this without asking anything in return to cater to just your needs. When you are not offering anything in return and even donations are to show appreciation. Most devs do have a life and as stated above me, are busy as hell too. So remember before asking this that you wouldn't have anything to complain about if the devs weren't already sacrificing their time, because you'd have no roms to flash to even be concerned with changing kernels.

Best OTA Update Ever!

Sweet update. I always ran 1.5gigs+ of RAM and have noticed the occasional lag spikes this phone has (especially with live wallpapers), this update brought me down to 750mb of RAM. I'm hearing you can re-root after so there really is no disadvantage to this update.

actually more ram use might mean its caching better. Android memory management is a strange thing. I used to use a task killer to "free up" more memory on my old phone but that actually made it slower.

Thank you for beating me to the punch.
In Linux, and for that matter, all modern operating systems, more RAM used is better. Unused RAM = wasted RAM.

I noticed the huge drop in RAM use as well, pretty nice.
Brings it more in line with my SGS3 on boot, so it makes a little more sense.
So far, significantly snappier.

I don't think it's as black and white as you make it sound. This is a HUGE debate and I'm currently on the side that available RAM = better performance.

I think there is a gray area where the system should cache some of our apps. But not fill the whole damn thing up! But not cache anything at all either.
There should be a middle ground and Samsung should just run some performance test and see where we get the best response times. I really don't get how they do their testing.

Let's not get too carried away - first, if this were "the best update ever," it would have included an unlocked bootloader, and since it did not, it IS not the best ever.... second, there certain is a disadvantage to updating right now, it has not been confirmed or denied that this update has in fact patched the exploit Dan "THE MAN" has created, and to quote him directly:
djrbliss said:
Is it safe to install OTA updates?
If you are interested in taking advantage of this release, it is recommended that you avoid installing OTA updates until it is published. Please be aware that refraining from installing updates may prevent you from receiving security and stability fixes for your device, and consider whether this is a risk you are willing to accept.

So it's not the best thing to tell people who aren't familiar with this stuff to update away - yes, you CAN Odin back to the original firmware that was originally released and no, it did not blow any q- or e-fuses, but it still isn't recommended by our fearless bootloader unlocker, so I for one and holding off

Then why are we waiting for the Verizon model to drop? If they've already produced millions of them, just packing them up and shipping them out, why are we waiting? Not being arrogant, just trying to ask the obvious question here

I have to admit. I hated this phone before the update I received late last night. It was the first galaxy out of the 4 that I've already had that I hated. The ota improved things 100 percent! The phone is now smooth and works well with 0 lag.
