Could ROM Manager fake Flash Clockworkmod recovery be responsible for bricking phones on LG update? Let me explain what I mean - Lots of people, like myself, installed ROM Manager and its CWM because we did not know it's not real Flash. Then We switched to "real" CWM. Now the question is when we do normal stock recovery in order to get official GB update, does this CWM of ROM manager still remains in the phone? If so, could it be that it contributed to the troubles updating through LG tool? How can I make sure I removed it from the phone?
Thanks!
Yes. Many people have confirmed that not having the stock recovery on the device is a road to Bricksville. Even though you are fake flashed there is code inserted somewhere to redirect to the fake flash, and the recovery images for flash (normally installed every boot) have been deleted or renamed. You should flash stock recovery with NVFlasher to make sure you are back at a clean stock recovery before using the LG Update tool.
Thanks but what I mean is that AFTER I realized it's fake flash I installed "real" CWM. So when I do stock on this "real", does CWM rom manager still remains in the phone and how can I remove it?

so I am a little confused I used CWM to make a backup before I did anything to my phone. And I was already on the 2.3.3 lg update. So if I restore that I should be back to stock and CWM should still be there right? But lets say LG comes out with another update (Doubtful) and I want to use it I should use the NVflash to reture the phone to stock? if I use NVflash will that put me back on froyo 2.2.2 or GB 2.3.3?
Also I used rom manager to make a backup of the rom I was on which was the stock rooted so is that fake or what the hell is fake? is it the first option in rom manager the CWM recovery? is it the same if I use CWM stock recovery? in cwn itself? Oh I am so confused someone help me
ROM Manager cannot flash directly to the phone so it "fake flashes" CWM recovery. It only installs a few files to the system so that when you run recovery the stock recovery runs an "upate" and that launches CWM recovery from your SD card. Just return the phone to GB 2.3.3 stock and be happy with it. If you restore using CWM it will remain there, so you should use NVFlash to restore stock recovery also.

I have BOTH - CWM AND CWM through the ROM Manager. So if use NV Flash to go to stock, is the CWM from ROM manager still in the phone and how can I remove it?
Thanks!
so what I am getting out of this is rom manager is crap and dont use it. If you just use CWM to do your flashing and backups and recoverys you should be ok.

Thanks but my questions are:
1. If I go to stock using NV Flasher, is ROM Manager's CWM still going to be in the phone, since I have BOTH?
2. Can it BRICK my phone if I do the LG update then?
3. How can I make sure I removed BOTH - NV Flash CWM AND ROM Manager CWM?
Hello Everyone...
I own a Vodafone Joy 845 and because of some mistakes i've propably done...I can't reboot into recovery.
These are all the stuff i've been through before the problem occur.
I used a ROM for a long time and got bored of it, so i desided to change it.The new ROM i flashed was a good one but because of some resons i wanted to go back to my older ROM.Then i realised i hadn't made a buckup of the older ROM...so i had to flash it all over again.I downloaded the ROM and rebooted into recovery...wiped everything and tryed to flash it.Then it said the installation aborted...and i thought that changing the custom recovery would solve the problem. So i changed from Amon-RA to ClockWorkMod.Tried to flash again the ROM and nothing...So i made some research to forums and i figured out that:
The older ROMs are based to Amend (some kind of pc language...i think) and the new ROMs and based to Edify. So, because of ClockWorkMod 3.0.0.5 (the one i had) doens't support Edify based ROMs i had to go back to an older version (ClockWorkMod 2.5.1.2).I coulden't find a way to do it until i saw somewhere that i could downgrade ClockWorkMod via terminal emulator, and i gave it a shoot. When i dit it via terminal...i rebooted into recovery. Then the phone stayed on the screen with the hourglass forever...
TO SUM UP
When i tryed to Downgrade ClockWorkMod recovery 3.0.0.5 to 2.5.1.2 via terminal emulator...the recovery got ****ED UP...
If you know anything...Please share it with me .
Thanks for your answers in advance...
katevase tin clockworkmod sto pc sindese to kinito me to pc kai valto sto bootloader
meta apla kane diplo click sto installer tou
Thanks for your quick reply.Hopefully I found the solution on my own.
Here it is:
I located the downloaded recovery into the ClockWorkMod folder..deleted and downloade again from rom manager..
Now i'm back to my mayor broblem...how to downgrade ClockWorkMod...
(Sou apantisa sta agglika epeidh to site dn eina elliniko...)
I forgot to ask..
Do you know if there is any recovery.img that supports both Amend and Edify. Zip files?
I upgraded manually to 4.04 coming from 4.03 rooted, i flashed the update file and then flashed Superuser, everything is working fine.
Today i wanted to make a backup with the rommanager, but it seems that the Clockworkmodrecovery isnt there anymore, when i tried to flash clockworkmodrecoveryin standard recovery i get the Signature verification fail and then the android with the exclamation mark.
For the rest the phone works fine. i am confused now, what to do
i have backups of my olders system, from a few days ago, but can i use rommanger to set things back or does that not work anymore because the clockworkmod recovery is missing now.
How can i get back clockworkmod recovery
is this working for you: http://andwise.net/?p=268 ?
No it does not work .
what does not work exactly ??
there is an missing dll in your fastboot exe,
pulled the battery and flashed thru rommanager, then its ok, recovery is there but when i want to make a backup, clockworkmod recovery is gone again after reboot, not sticky i think
Rename "/system/etc/install-recovery.sh" to "/system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak". All Stock ROMs replace the recovery on each Boot if it isn't the stock one. Renaming this script stops that. After you do this, flash CWM one more time and it'll stick.
Ok thanks, i am just back to 4.03 using a nandroid backup, when i am going back to 4.04 i will try your solution
A while ago i rooted my phone and put a custom rom on it, liked it the got sick of it then flashed back to stock . a day or two later i instantly regretted this decision so i reverted back. This was a very drawn out process because my phone was being dumb etc, i initially tried to flash TWRP on it which worked , but it never flashed roms correctly for me , so i flashed CWM on it and that worked. flashed a rom , and it worked. I now want to flash a new rom but when i boot to recovery , TWRP is still there but when i am in Rom manager, it says CWM 6.0.3.1 is installed.
Is there a way to use odin to flash this back to stock and just flash CWM on the so i can get on with my life and flash new roms?
TL;DR
there are 2 recoveries (TWRP and CWM)
TWRP is accessible but doesn't work
need access to CWM
is there odin or a type of software i can use to solve this ?
I know i ****ed up pretty good, any help would be greatly appreciated!
Download GooManager from the Playstore. Then from GooManager run OpenRecoveryScript which will flash the latest TWRP.

I'm pretty sure that GooManager will install only TWRP. I would start there to fix your problem, since GooManager will install the recovery easily. Once you have TWRP you can switch by installing CWM if you'd like. For that, see http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2305721
So today i decided to root my phone and install a custom rom[im new on this i never flashed a custom rom and recovery].My phone model is Samsung Galaxy Young GT-S6312 DUOS.I didn't know how to install clockwork mod recovery and i saw this tutorial "[ROOT] How to install ClockworkMod Recovery on Galaxy Young GT-S6312" this is the name of the tutorial i cant post links.
I did everything and the recovery installed to my phone then opened the recovery and i tried to back up my phone when i clicked to back up my phone it was saying "can't mount backup path".So i decided to not install a custom rom because i was afraid.
I went back to my home screen and i wanted to do factory reset cause i had a lot of files which i wasn't need.My phone reboot's for the factory reset and then it saws me the clockwork recovery i clicked reboot phone[from the recovery cause my phone cant boot back to the normal screen] and now its not going back to the homescreen its always going back to the recovery.
Please tell me if its possible to fix my phone!
