I upgraded manually to 4.04 coming from 4.03 rooted, i flashed the update file and then flashed Superuser, everything is working fine.
Today i wanted to make a backup with the rommanager, but it seems that the Clockworkmodrecovery isnt there anymore, when i tried to flash clockworkmodrecoveryin standard recovery i get the Signature verification fail and then the android with the exclamation mark.
For the rest the phone works fine. i am confused now, what to do
i have backups of my olders system, from a few days ago, but can i use rommanger to set things back or does that not work anymore because the clockworkmod recovery is missing now.
How can i get back clockworkmod recovery
is this working for you: http://andwise.net/?p=268 ?
No it does not work .
what does not work exactly ??
there is an missing dll in your fastboot exe,
pulled the battery and flashed thru rommanager, then its ok, recovery is there but when i want to make a backup, clockworkmod recovery is gone again after reboot, not sticky i think
Rename "/system/etc/install-recovery.sh" to "/system/etc/install-recovery.sh.bak". All Stock ROMs replace the recovery on each Boot if it isn't the stock one. Renaming this script stops that. After you do this, flash CWM one more time and it'll stick.
Ok thanks, i am just back to 4.03 using a nandroid backup, when i am going back to 4.04 i will try your solution

So I'm trying to update my rooted 3.0.1 euro 3G xoom to the 3.2 Hammerhead ROM, and here's something that is really confusing me:
I've installed ROM Manager 4.3.3.0 from the Market. Then I downloaded and flashed ClockworkMod Recovery 3.2.0.0 R4c via this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1074979
So far so good: I can boot to recovery and it looks that everything is working nicely... with the exception of the following:
1) Even though I have CWM installed, ROM Manager won't recognize it. It keeps asking to install it. I haven't done that though because I don't want to overwrite the one I flashed... how can I get ROM Manager to recognize CWM? Or, if I install a different CWM version through the ROM Manager interface, will that overwrite the existing install, or even break something?
2) I can't find Nandroid in the recovery menu of 3.2.0.0 R4c. It says that it should be there in the Wiki (http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=How_to_backup_or_recover_via_Nandroid), but no sir. I only have the options Backup and Advanced Backup in recovery; it doesn't say Nandroid anywhere.
The thing is - I made a normal backup and it created a folder with .img files in it, along with a nandroid.md5 file. So is this a full Nandroid backup or not? And should it not be a zip file? Meaning - will I be able to revert to this backup through ROM Manager or CWM later if it's not a zip?
3) Lastly, I want to install the Tiamat 2.1 Hammerhead ROM. solarnz writes in the instructions in step 6 to "install the rom". So do I do that from recovery? Or from ROM Manager? Which brings me back to my first problem, that ROM Manager won't recognize CWM and won't let me install a ROM without it.
Also - can I install the Hammerhead ROM from my rooted 3.0.1 device at all, or should I install 3.1 first?
I know these are a lot of questions all at once, but after hours and hours of searching and reading (and learning a lot!), I still can't figure this part out.
Many thanks to anyone who can help me make sense of this!

Forget about Rom Manager. You have the correct recovery installed and you have made a "nandroid" backup when you used the backup option in CWM recovery 3.2.0.0 R4c. The Rom you want to flash needs to be on your MicroSD card and that needs to be in your Xoom when you boot into recovery. It is from the CWM recovery menu that you will choose to flash the zip file that will install the Rom. You will need to be able to boot into recovery and you can do it by pressing volume up and power to get to dual core screen, then after 3 seconds, press volume down then volume up and you should be in recovery. Or you could download Quick Boot from the market and use its boot into recovery option (that's what I do).
About the version you need to be on to flash Hammerhead...what does it say? I think you may need to be on 3.1 but just read the OP on the Hammerhead thread...it will tell you the requirements.
Good luck!
Thanks a lot for explaining that okantomi, that's very helpful and reassuring!
The only thing I'm left with now is to figure out the version part... the rom OP doesn't say anything about a required version. Here's the thread btw: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1203635
I made my way through the first 18 or so pages of the 434 total pages in that thread, but still couldn't find any info on that. I'll keep looking - not giving up
Quick update... I decided to just go for it. I flashed the 3.2 ROM onto 3.0.1 - it worked perfectly without any hiccups whatsoever. I'm now running Androud 3.2 with 3G and it works beautifully. Can you see that I'm smiling?

Me too! ;^ )
Enjoy your shiny new Rom!
Hi guys I really hope someone can help me with this. I was running CM7 Nightly rom and decided to try and flash eaglesblood 2.3.5 and it flashed ok but the problem is that when I tried restoring my back-up on it I get an clockworkmod recovery error. Any Ideas?
what does the error say?
most likely it was a bad backup and slim chance of restoration
did u do a full wipe before restoring?
Yes I did a full wipe before flashing and also before I tried to restore my black-up thru rom manager.I have flashed plenty of roms and this phone am not a total noob when it comes to this phone. I have never encountered this problem before. Before i tried going into recovery thru rom manager to restore back up thru CWm 4.0 etc, and it says I need CWM 5.0. I updated the rom manager to 5.0 etc and when I reboot and go into recovery (not thru rom Manager) and it says that it is the 4.0 etc version. Also is the 5.0 etc version blue? it jumps from 4.0 to 5.0 back to 4.0. This is a lil weird I went into recovery and did a restore from there and when I try in RM it comes up with error message Cannot restore cuz my CWm is 4.0 etc. thats when it jumps back from 5.0 to 4.0. I know this is confusing and by the way all the etcs you see are because I don't know the exact version. Any helps and thnx to whomever does.

You need to update thru NVFlash. Here is the link and everything should be fine after that. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1054492
Thanks guys u rock. I got the new CWM on there for nvflash. Now I am moving my saved back up zipped file from downloads to CWM on sd card after I zip it, so well see how this goes right now. THanks again
With the G2X don't use rom manager for your backup/restore. Boot directly into the clockworkmod that you installed with nvflash and do the backup/restore from there.
I have:
Infuse
Infused ROM V2
So today I downloaded "ROM Manager" and "ROM Manager Premium" from the market. AFAIK, this means they are up to date as of today.
Then installed CWM Recovery.
Then installed the 3e mod fix.
Then booted to CWM and did a nandroid backup.
Then booted normally.
Then attempted to install MYUI via ROM Manager download.
It bricked the phone.
Restored the phone with Odin.
Rooted.
Then installed both ROM Managers.
Then installed CWM Recovery.
Then installed the 3e mod fix.
Then booted to CWM and did a restore from the new backup done earlier in the day.
Now it just hangs at the Samsung splash screen.
Any ideas? I have a LOT of investment in the backed up ROM and don't want to lose it.

I dont know what ALOT of investment is.......but what i think happened here is this<<
You were on Gingerbread right, Infused v2.x.x and you made a Nandroid(thats fine)
u installed miUi and didnt have the luck you wanted...Thats fine
You went back to stock, and rooted and modded the Recovery so you could restore your nandroid....Thats fine
But if you went back to stock(Froyo Right) and try to load up a Gringerbread Nandroid on top it shouldnt work. Nandroids only back up the ROM not the Kernel......so you were in a sense trying to run a Gingerbread Rom on a Stock Froyo Kernel......
Go into CWM flash your Kernel, or use odin and flash a Ginger Kernel then go into CWM and RESTORE.
Happy FLashing
Didn't know that! That may explain a lot of my ROM frustrations.
I'll try this and report back.
Off to go find a suitable kernel....
I really should get my post count up so I can get past this horrible 10 post restriction.
Did you try initiating the flash through CWM or through ROM Manager? Honestly I don't prefer to do any work via ROM Manager, I always have more luck going through CWM and starting a flash from there. Kernel is the first place I'd start but you should also Factory Wipe and Cache Wipe each time you move between ROMs, sometimes you get very lucky and don't need to, most times you bork your phone, and if you're nandroiding back from a backup wiping before you restore is good practice just to make sure you don't leave anything behind from your old ROM.
I installed a gingerbread kernel:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1212485
Version 1.1.
But it didn't work out.
So now I'm fighting with trying to get a stock Infused V2 ROM on there.
No luck yet. Once I do, I'll try the recovery again.
Btw, I'm using CWM for everything.
Go to mounts and storage in clockwork recovery then select format system then do your nand restore ...

Wow, I was totally making some rookie (which I am) Android mistakes today.
Every time I tried to restore the backup image, I was doing it in CWM by selecting "install .zip from SD card". When I SHOULD have been using the "backup/restore" function.
I'm up & running again. All original apps/settings are restored. Great!
Now to start breaking things again, since I know how to restore from backup now.
Hi people,
I have a bit of a problem here
Recently updated my Nexus S i9020t (unlocked uk version) to 4.0.3, all done no hassle and working fine.
Then I rooted the device following the instructions on nexushacks .com, including flashing TWRP recovery and superuser.
Again, all fine no hassle.
HOWEVER now, whenever I try to boot into recovery, i see a belly up android with a big exclamation mark
Any ideas as to how to fix this, ie re-install stock recovery?
Much appreciated in advance,
All the best
if you still have root just download rom manager and install recovery from there.

Hi Camalus,
I already tried installing clockworkmod recovery from rom manager, unfortunately the issue persists (same deal, android belly up with exclamation)
Is Root working? You can test this by using terminal emulator and typing in "su".
If it is, rename /etc/install-recovery.sh to something else (ie. /etc/install-recovery.sh.bak). This will stop stock recovery installing each boot. After this, flashing CWM or TWRP again will keep it there.
Job Done
Hi Harbb,
Thanks an absolute million, I did as you suggested and then flashed an old version of CWM recovery.
Result: SUCCESS!
Awesome job done, nice one bro
Flash the new one, save you trouble down the track. Also remember to rename that file i said so stock doesn't replace recovery
And of course you're welcome.
Hi Harbb,
Can I flash the new version of CWM recovery through ROM manager, or would it be advisable to do it manually, with fastboot (as I did successfully just now)?
Also, I have renamed install-recovery.sh to install-recovery.sh.bak just as you suggested.
Are there any other files I need to rename in order to ensure recovery works as it's supposed to, or should that be ok now?
Once again, thanks for your help
That's all you need to rename. I'd generally just advise wiping/flashing manually, ROM Manager should be fine for recovery since it doesn't actually reboot into recovery and execute commands.
Hey guys,
I searched around and only found some old posts for this topic.
I just bought this phone, I rooted it, simunlocked it, and added two day old CWM recovery. Its a S4 Canadian (Bell) version in case that helps..
Is there a way to apply the OTA update WITHOUT having to wipe my data and settings and reflashing a rom?
Hlep will be greatly appreciated!
THANKS :good:
I got the same thing going on. I have a TMOUS HTC One S stock with CWM Rooted and such. I just changed it back to the Stock recovery, but doesn't seem to help. Is there something else I need to do? Maybe I need to flash a newer recovery version?
I have the stock recovery from a MoDaCo topic I can't list because I don't have 10 posts yet.
its topic/353006-interim-clockworkmod-touch-recovery-for-the-htc-one-s-stock-download/ though.
Are you sure your Rom is absolutely stock. For example if the rom is tweaked in any way or if bloatware has been deleted then you won't recieve the update
Ok so I got the update to work. This is what I did: in CWM I backed up a nandroid. I flashed a stock BACKUP for the HTC One S (I moved the zip to the clockwork > backups folder on the sd card). Rebooted into bootloader, flashed a stock recovery from modaco, rebooted, ran the update (I had to update twice, from 1.53 to 1.84 to 2.35). Then I restored my original nandroid. Problem is, the update didn't stick. And now I'm getting an error when I try to turn on wifi. Any ideas? I feel like I got so close...
Tough to see what went wrong.
I had a brand new stock rom with no modifications.
Then I flashed stock recovery,
Did a root keeper (play store app)
Then did the update
And restored root.
Worked out fine for me!
I think you should flash a stock rom and not a backup..
