Just like most of the people I created a US dummy account to access the marketplace.
I noticed I can only use windows live messenger(messaging hub) with my primary "dummy" account. I was able to connect facebook to that account, but what I really want is my own Windows Live ID in de messaging hub.
My own Live ID is set as a secondary account on my phone, is it possible to login with that account?
There read somewhere a hard reset and setting your own ID as primary will solve this problem. But I want to avoid that because I can't backup my sms.
I know microsoft will release the markerplace in the Netherlands but there are only 40 apps. That is why I don't want to hard reset my device.

No. As of right now Messenger can only use your primary Windows Live ID. The only way to change your primary Windows Live ID is a hard reset.
A quick search would have provided you with the answers you needed already.

I got this problem too. It's really bad that I need to reset my phone. So the choice is either using the marketplace or messenger. Hope they will let us connect to live messenger with our secondary account.

I have two Windows Live ID's.
One is for Hotmail (it's my primary account and I *must* have access to it on my phone).
The other is for ZunePass and Xbox Live.
Anyone know if it's possible to use one account for Hotmail sync and another for ZunePass or Xbox Live?
I had to split the two accounts a while back because Xbox Live Messenger could only handle 100 IM contacts and it was failing.
Just hoping I don't have to switch the Live ID on my Xbox Live and ZunePass subscriptions. Sounds like a PITA.
Yeah, that's not a problem. Just set up your current 'secondary' account (ie. the one with Xbox/Zune subs) as the primary one on your phone. Then set up your current primary account as an extra email accnt.
You can then customize email/calendary/contact syncing from the two.
The Windows Phone 7 support documentation covers these items.
Basically, the first Windows Live ID you use needs to be the one that has your Zune Pass and Xbox Live Gamertag if you want to use those features. You cannot add a secondary Windows Live ID and use the Zune Pass/Gamertag on it.
When you say that you must have access to your Hotmail, I am assuming you mean that you just need access to the e-mail and contacts on that account. If that is the case, then set your Hotmail as your secondary Windows Live ID, and initially sign in to your phone with the Windows Live ID that has your Zune Pass/Gamertag. Though just remember that this also means that whatever Zune/application purchases you make through the phone will be tied to the first Windows Live ID.
Also remember that if you have any contacts on that Zune/Gamertag Windows Live ID, that it will automatically sync with your phone, so you may want to go ahead and delete those so that it doesn't mess up your address book on the phone (you cannot turn off contact syncing with the first Windows Live ID tied to the phone). You can turn off the email though.

I was checking into it and it seems that MS may now offer the ability to access non-Hotmail accounts via the web-based Hotmail UI (and presumably similar services). So I may be able to check all of my email from the old Live ID account tied to my XBL and ZunePass anyway.
I currently use Gmail as my main email account but obviously needed a windows live account which I set up using my gmail address.
I havent really bothered sorting my contacts out before but not I have a decent phone I'm doing it so I deleted them all from Gmail and added them all to Windows live and synced to my phone no problem.
I realise I can export my windows live contacts to a CSV file and upload to Gmail which is fine.
What I really want is for all my stuff to be in Gmail on an ongoing basis.
If I therefore set google contacts to sync to my phone will they only update one way i.e. if I add someone on my phone that will sync to windows live and not gmail? If so that will be very irritating as I will need to remember to go into gmail and add all the info and duplication is what I want to avoid.
I guess this is also the same with google calendars?

Well, if it didn't sync both ways, it wouldn't be 'syncing' at all then now would it? XD
Syncing stuff with a Google account works the same way as it does with a Windows Live account. Any changes you make to the account will be sync'd both ways. I use Windows Live for my contacts, and Google Calendar for my calendar and it works fine.
Just, in regards to Google Contacts, you gotta watch out for those custom fields in a contact, as they don't seem to sync properly with the phone.
Ok thanks, well if I make them both match from the start (windows live and google contacts) and set the contacts to sync with google then in theory everything should match up and be the same in all 3 places regardless of if I add a new person on windows live, google contacts or the phone.
That what you mean yeah?
What are these custom fields you speak off? I've not spotted anything in there.
Sorry I'm not very clued up on all this technology business, I presume you mean fields in google contacts that arent within windows phone 7 or windows live meaning info will be missed when synced.
Are all the fields in windows live replicated in google contacts? (I know this is a lazy question)

The custom fields are fields you can define in Google contacts. For example, you can add a ton of numbers for your contacts and rename the label to whatever you want, Windows Phone only recognizes the first couple of numbers with common labels (work, home, mobile), and after that won't sync the rest. Stuff like that.
Also, while you can link an existing contact to more than one contact syncing service (for example, to both Gmail and Windows Live) on your phone, when you create a new contact on the phone, it only makes that contact in one of your services (so either Gmail or Windows Live, your choice). Because it only syncs to one service, you'll eventually have to remake the same contact on the other account in order to keep all 3 in sync if that's your plan.
Windows Live and Google Contacts share the same basic fields, its just that Google allows you to make custom fields as well and Windows Live does not.
Thank you.
From what I've seen it will always sync back to windows live if you create one on your phone as there is no way to change what you sync to windows live which means I'm always going to have to manually add things back to google which is a real pain.
It looks like the only way round this is to make them match from the start and then periodically export them and upload to google which I guess doesnt take too long but still annoying.
They should really fix that and look at upgrading windows live as its so slow and clunky to use, takes ages to browse around it when adding contacts and editing them etc
I got a question. Did someone manage to chat with the new msn messenger in wp7 build 7712 ?? I tried everything, but i can't see my contacs online at the messaging hub :/.. (I do see them in my people hub)

Did you setup both accounts on wp7 ??? and as first the one with the contacts you want to use in WLM ????
Yeah i setup both accounts and i see them both on the people list. I don't use my main live account (the one you need to fill in when you start up the phone for the first time) for msn , i added a other live account that i use for msn ect..
Or is it not possible to chat with wlm like facebook chat on the messasing hub?

I'm pretty sure that you cannot use your second account to connect to Messenger. The phone automatically uses the primary Windows Live account (the first one you signed on with) to connect to Messenger and that's it. There are no options to switch accounts or what not.
Thanks for this information. I will add some people on my main wp7 live account and check if i see someone online
I think it's a shame that you can't use your second live account as wlm chat...
I only have one live account. It shows me as online in my phone. I made sure to sign out all locations, turned PC off. Then signed into Messenger via my 1.3 Samsung Focus running 7712. To all my friends it shows me as offline and says all my friends are offline. But if I sign into my PC it shows my friends as being online. I've tried using this feature on my phone via 3G and WiFi; neither seems to work for me. Any suggestions? Possible options I need to activate through Live Messenger on the PC/Account Settings?
EDIT: Just notice in the Online page of messaging it says " Can't connect to see who's online" Also the top left corner states "Can't connect to chat". Even if I sign out and back in it states the same. But if I sign in and out from the Threads page its states in top left corner that I'm "Signed in (Available)"
Edit#2: PROBLEM SOLVED: I have the Samsung network profile app, It was set to "ATT" profile I changed it to the "AT&T" Profile and turned off auto network selection. It works now.
Hello, I donĀ“t know where to ask this, so here it goes.
I have my main hotmail account which is listed as an unsupported country (for wp7 marketplace), I managed to change my address and region in hotmail so in that way I was able to access the marketplace in my WP7 ... but the problem is, that in the past I created an Xbox live account with this account, so my hotmail account appears as USA (which is the country I want now) and my xbox live account shows something else.
Now, when I wanted to create a zune account it appears as a different country, giving me overpriced items in the marketplace, so my zune ID and my Xbox Live ID are both showing the wrong country but my hotmail account is showing correct ... do you guys know how to change this?? I really dont care losing my xbox live account or my zune ID, but I do want to keep my hotmail address.
thank you.
Hi,
My brother had the same kind of problem, and Microsoft tell him that they cant do anything. He had to make another account.
Sorry for your accound.....
Yeah, unfortunately you can't do anything about it. The best way is to create a U.S. account.
So please help:
I have Hotmail for 13 years.
Now Zune starts to support my country (Poland).
So when I want to login to Zune on my PC, Zune says my country region of my PC and Hotmail are not the same so I cannot be logged in.
Apparently 13 years ago Hotmail didn't even exist for Poland so I couldn't even locate my account for Poland.
So what can I do? I don't want to change my account of course and it is already attached to my phone. I can't login to Zune.
You try on that site: www.xbox.com
Change location and display language in Regional Settings to US. Worked for me.
Although i love WP7, this pisses me off. It is f**ked up beyond beliefs.
Hi guys,
I might get a WP7 device soon, only thing that still really bugs me is the missing active sync connection that I oved over the years! I know I could use google or hotmail to sync my Outlook with a WP7 device but I refuse to give in on that one. So instead of argueing why I should or should not want that I'm gonna try to find some solutions. I am not afraid of some not-so-easy way if at least we find one.
The following ideas came to my mind:
1) making use of the pim.vol file in my current winMo Phone.
somehow copying/converting it to the WP7 and than using it. afterwards copying it back to WinMo and sync it with my PC. a bit messy, but how about this? Further info could be found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1072796
2) Host a (free) exchange server.
We all cann't afford MS Exchange for sure. but there's a open source alternative or two: http://oxpedia.org/index.php?title=Main_Page_CE#quickinstall
Even better would be to have it running on the same PC so a server of some kind is not required...
3) sending all contacts via mail to the phone and having a seperate emailadress where all outlook appointments are sent to seperatly as invitations. Not really syncing though...
4) Get someone to programm a solution...
Have I missed something? are there limitations I for some reaseons was no aware of?
Thnaks all!
Use the Outlook Connector with your Windows Live ID; when you add a contact in Outlook, copy & paste it into your Windows Live contacts (which appear right in your Outlook on your PC), and then when Outlook sends & receives, it uploads your changes in your contacts to your Windows Live account. As soon as your phone syncs your Windows Live account, the new contact will show up on your phone. I use this method and it literally takes less than a minute from when I add the contact in Outlook until it shows up on my HTC HD7s.

thanks for your replies! Unfortunately I'm still looking for some kind of solution so if anyone has a hint of some kind... keep 'em commin'
hi,
you can install zarafa ww w dot zarafa dot com (new user -> you have to fix the link). There's a community edition and an outlook connector which replaces an exchange server and is free for up to three users. I installed it yesterday and my omnia7 could sync the calendar. However, I don't have outlook and could not check if that works. I didn't try to send/receive mails because I already use a separate IMAP account.
Zarafa runs on linux, so you'd have to create a virtual machine or install it on a home/root server.
The manual explains the installation very well and ubuntu provides packages in its canoncial-partners repository. But if you don't have any linux knowledge that might not be the easiest project to begin with.
HTH
You HAVE to assign a live id account to a Windows Phone; that is the only way to use the marketplace, to add social integration etc. That said, you can add the live account to outlook, install outlook connector and your info (calendar, contacts) will be in constant sync. Its a better solution to synchronize than active sync was.
Why are you trying to complicate the process?
@ShakaMan: Thanks! As far as I understood this is basically a exchangeserver (which I could instal on my own PC / Webspace /server), right?
@TechJunkiesCA Jeah, I know that it's easy. I simply don't trust MS or Google to keep my data. I have no problem with said live account But I do not want to give all my caenders and details of my contacts (friends and family) to a company of any kind. Thats the point.

exactly. probably there's a better solution which doesn't need a virtual machine or server and can be run on windows.

well, when you have (many) contacts with private data (name, home/company address, birthday, ...) you should care what you "publish" about other people. I don't care if others put their own data on the web, but they shouldn't do that with the data of their contacts.
