N1 speaker replacement - Nexus One Accessories

So one of my kids jumps on the pool and I had to jump my self and get him, with my N1 in my pocket of course! Any way opened the phone and place it in a bowl of rice after 24h the phone works every thing works perfectly exept the speaker! So when some one is calling I can't hear and I have missed important calls past week. Is there a webside that sells the speaker and is it hard to take the phone. A part I noticed that the speaker its in the back and doesn't seem hard to take out. HTC won't sell the speaker and they are trying to charge me 199.00 to fix, so in that case I can buy be one for 250. Well any help would be appreciated.

How much is the speaker?
If I were you i didn't try to repair if i had to spend more than 50 dollars. At globalparts direct you can find the speaker.
Good luck!

Thank you.

Hi jonathann0222
I replaced myself my own speaker because it had a cracking sound (I think it was at the end of its life) I bought the speaker from Ebay for less than 10$: http://shop.ebay.com/i.html?_from=R...w=nexus+one+speaker&_sacat=See-All-Categories
In youtube you can find how to dissasemble the phone in less than 3 minutes.
Good luck and lets hope it was only the speaker what was broken.

No Active Noise Cancellation?

When I got my set and open up to inspect, i realised that one of the holes on the back of Sensation doesn't have purpose at all (the hole on the right of the back speaker). This is quite saddening cuz I bought this with the expectiation that it has....
I suspect that the dual mic might be actually removed in the final release. But I read at many places that the video recording uses the secondary mic to achieve stereo audio recording. So does sensation have the secondary mic in the first place? And secondly, does the video recording have stereo sound?
What do you all think? Many reviews mentioned that noise cancellation during calls r available thou....
I managed to email HTC support and this is wad they responded,
Thank you for contacting HTC.
With reference to your query, Sensation does not support noise cancellation ability , and if you nedd high quality voice during the call, we recommend you buy a good in ear earpiece.

whats with HTC and cheap speakers they use ? How hard is it to use something decent in their "state of the art" phone...
the more I read, less i want this phone, at least my HD2 is 100% unlocked and can run any OS there is....
Their official press states Dual microphones for noise suppression.

so where is the extra mic located?

well, there is stereo sound recording, so it could be using one of the microphones there.. although i'm not sure if the spacing of those mics is conducive to noise cancellation..
There are six holes on the backside of the case. Four of them appear to be used as aerials for the various radios. The hole next to the speaker seems to be unused.
I'm not sure, but the microphone appears to be on the bottom edge, adjacent the back release. Where is the second microphone, or are thye combined in one module?
If they are combined I doubt they would work for noise cancelling...

the US version has another antenna contact with the hole by the speaker grill
What about the hole above the back camera? What is that used for?

That's the other microphone. Pretty easy to see if you pull the phone out of the shell. Every other hole doesn't seem to go anywhere, the one above the camera has a little gasket on the device-side.
Ism if anybody stated this yet Liz in too lazy to read them.
The holes on the back ate just where the rivets were located for.the intenna. Nice is on the bottom only

So guys since it had been confirmed that there is a Mike above the back Canberra, it means that there is active cancellation

Ok.. So I believe that secondary mic is present... For the stereo recording at least..
But during calls, it really doesn't sound like active noise cancellation.. I've used Nexus one & S2, their noise cancellation works very well even on a busy street...
I mean I still love this phone but just a bit disappointed with some hardware aspects..

[Q] Anyone else with a buzzing earpiece?

I bet I'm not the only person with this problem, but I have a brand new Sensation with a buzzing speaker. I've taken the cover off and looked for hairs in the grille and whatnot, to no avail. I even took off the protective sticker to see if that helped anything... nope.
The problem gets worse as the volume goes up.
I bought this from of someone on Craigslist who was selling a couple of them, new in box (he had bought them at Wal-Mart). Should I contact HTC?

Yes. It should be coveted under warranty irregardless of where you bought it from as the device itself is only a month old. They do not need proof of purchase
Swyped from my HTC Sensation Pyramid using my thumb and eyes
Thanks -- Talked to both HTC and T-Mobile.
HTC said they would repair it if I sent it in. T-Mobile said that I needed the phone to show up on my account (I only bought it last night) before they could determine warranty info, and that I'd be better of getting the receipt (which I don't have) and taking it back to the store it was purchased from.
However, I took the liberty of taking the back casing off, taking the speaker protective sticker off, and blowing some air into the speaker area. That seems to have fixed the problem and it looks like I won't have to send them the phone after all.
I also have a buzzing noise. A first device I had was producing such a strong buzzing that I asked for an exchange. The second one is only producing this noise on certain calls and gets worse when increasing the volume. I an also wiling to try to clean buy I fear to void warranty by removing the sticker.
The sticker comes off very easily with a razor blade and is very easily replaceable. Remember, you're only removing a grille speaker, not the "void" sticker. Nobody could possibly be any the wiser.

So, I will return my third sensation because of the buzzing problem. My shop is going to hate me so bad. On the other hand, no really my fault, is it?
But I will certainly not take another sensation for now. I will check back in a few months if htc has fixed the issues. I have no use for a phone that cannot make phone calls properly!
Can't believe htc is making such sophisticated devices, but is unable to make the mere phone function work properly.
I noticed my earpiece makes a light crackling noise when in phone calls. It does get worse with increased volume. I am going to deal with it for now and see if for some reason it gets better. I REALLY dont want to have to try and return my phone because I just returned another one and I dont want to be one of those people that abuses the warranty system.
Getting a buzzing on my new Sensation earpiece when on the phone, gutted right now. Just contacted HTC.
Sending my phone back, after 5 days, i can't stand it any longer!
Also have this problem... I'm going to try and replace it tomorrow
I hope they won't give me a refurbished one... I just bought mine on Saturday...
I noticed the buzzing yesterday. I have only had the phone for 3 days. I imagined I would be the only one having this problem. I don't have any problems returning the phone. I haven't returned one before, but I don't think I should have to settle for a brand new phone that can't perform its most simple function.
have the same problem ....
I replaced the phone today, after A TON of arguing with the store clerk... They were trying to make me send the phone to HTC warranty service, but in the end they gave in.
The new one only exhibits this problem moderately at the loudest speaker setting. Below or at medium it is not noticeable.
Overall I'm pleased with the outcome
so if this is a common issue
if I send my phone to the repair center how are they gonna repair it ...
Also the spare parts must be broken...
Not all of them are like that...Odds are you'd get a "better" device
Just got my Sensation today and am having the same issue: distortion at all volume levels - it sounds almost like a blown earpiece. I will probably end up exchanging it soon as I cannot stand the noise during calls.

[Q] crackled/annoying speaker sound

Hi im new to the sensation.
I just bought a sensation and i was happy about a good deal.
But later on when i tested the phone i did notice one problem,
the phones front speaker is makeing a crackled/annoying sound during calls.
I have a hard time hearing people some times, i did read some threads about people having this problem. But nothing that actually helped me, some say they flashed a new rom and all solved and some say they took the plastic or something from the speaker. Anyone here that had this problem and has just simply replaced the speaker, and then if it has worked like charm efter?
//Virtualxp
You could download an RUU which is official htc. Run it and if it fixes problem, great, if not, RMA
What is ruu and Rma? What do they stand for?

Rom Update Utility and Return Material Authorization. Google is your friend.
Ok so i tried Skype after reading some, and the sound in skype was pretty good didn't notice the crackled so much sound there. I have made a hard reset but that didn't solve it, took the backcase off and polished the the copper plate that pushed into the holder of the simcard and that made the sound better to. Could it maybe be the back case? someone with a idea =)?

Blown Earpiece Speaker

Ive had my RAZR HD for just over a month. It first started with a slight buzz in the earpiece and the last couple of days the speaker completely blew up...everything sounds distorted. I have to turn it to like a 1/4 volume to make it sound normal, at which point I can't hear anything since it's too quite. This is where I'm screwed. I bought the phone outright from Rogers here in Canada and I use it on a Fido network. Since I bought it from Rogers and I don't have an account they won't deal with the warranty. I was told to call Motorola....now I'm supposed to send my phone away to them and it will take 5-10 business days for them to fix it....that's like 2 weeks....not sure what I'm supposed to use in the mean time...
I would rather just pay for someone to fix it since I need my phone for work...don't want to buy another one since I just spent over $600 on this one....but apparently there is no parts available for these yet. I came across this website
etradesupply.com/oem-motorola-droid-razr-hd-xt925-ear-speaker-flex-cable-ribbon.html (I'm not allowed to post a link so just add the www to the beginning )
Anyone ever order from them? Is this the part I need?? Also does anyone have any idea how hard would it be to replace the earpiece speaker? Thanks in advance for any info.

The part you linked is just the connecting cable for everything. If it is the problem, it is because one of the ribbon connections is not making good contact which should be able to be fixed by reseating the cable. I would say the phone needs tore down first before ordering anything to check the connection points. The problem is with the front earpiece and not the speakerphone speaker on the back, right?
Yes the earpiece speaker not the loud speaker...are you sure the earpiece speaker is not built into that part??...I looked at the images and it looked like the speaker was part of it.
Has anyone done a write up on teardown of the phone?? I remember I read a post somewhere where a guy did it and said you just undo the 2 screws at the bottom and then push up on the screen...apparently everything is connected to the battery cover on this phone...but before I would attempt this I would like to see a write up, orderly preferably with pictures....and I can't find one...

Waterproof feature

Noobe question concerning the waterproof feature on my (and other Xperia's) DD6616. If the phone is waterproof up to 5 feet for a continuous 30 minutes, what prevents me from surfacing and then going back under for up to 5 feet for another 30 minutes? Will the integrity of the phone weaken? Is there a standard time between dives you should take? Does the phone's seals get back to normal out of the water, thus the reason you can go back in? I haven't used my phone in the pool yet, but plan on this upcoming summer. Since I won't be under water constantly for 30 minutes, then having the phone in and out of the water for 5 minutes here, 3 minutes there, etc, etc, should not even be a factor correct?
Not a factor, but keep in mind the chemicals in pools. I wouldn't use it and forget it, definitely rinse it off after getting out of the pool. And no salt walter. I'd recommend a case or ziplock bag for salt.
The only thing I would watch out for is jets and breaching (can pull on flaps). And dropping it in a 5ft pool is like dropping it from 5ft on concrete. Wear a wrist strap (slippery)
So what prevents water from getting into the exposed 3.5mm audio jack, and then into the phone's internals?
I questioned the inclusion of a lanyard option until reading this post. Now it makes perfect sense to include it. Phone slips while underwater, dives to the deep end, boom!!

My phone speakers are 50% quieter since I bought the phone since submerging it so i'd be wary of that. Everyone may say it's nonsense but i've compared it to a brand new Z3 and the speaker volume and quality have degraded since I had it.

10 minutes after the call the phone was dry and everything returned to normal.

Try doing the service test for stereo speakers. Dial *#*#7378423#*#*
Select service tests then stereo Speaker. Compare left and right speaker. If both are loud and clear then you're lucky. Tried mine and the right stereo speaker(which is the bottom) is muffled.

Both are OK. There is a difference between the quality of both speakers but it's been like this since I bought the phone ( The top one sound better and sound better in general. But that's subjective so yeah... )
I haven't submerged my phone in water but the speakers are lower (although sometimes they get louder, happens with a Bluetooth speaker too). Same thing happened to my old m8 after a while, the volume just dies out.

I am trading in my Z3 towards something that won't fall apart after one month's use lol
