Push mail on WiFi - HTC Sensation

I just set up my hotmail account as an "M$ Exchange ActiveSync" account in the default mail application. I entered m.hotmail.com as server (Found this using Google), set Peaktime from 00:00 to 23:59 and enabled push mail for peak time. Push mail seems to work properly while I'm on my data connection. But when I turn on WiFi to connect to my home router, it doesn't work anymore. I don't get the push service. The mails come in only when I open the App and it syncs. Same for Gmail, even though a mail on my Gmail came in while I syncedwith the default app. Is there any workaround for this? I read about the WiFi policy when the device is in standby, and I found that my setting was already to never turn it off. Can somebody help?

Please do also report if you have the same problem or if another Push solution for Hotmail works for you.

Does nobody here use pushmail?

I think I'm having a similar issue with my phone. I only use GMail, but even then my messages show up sluggishly when I'm connected to WiFi.
I have a GMail notifier extension in my browser, so emails consistently ping when my browser is opened. Unfortunately, the very same notification will take a couple of minutes to show up on my phone.
Don't know if that's a helpful problem report. Hopefully there's something stupid that we're missing that's causing issues?

I use Advanced Email which is great. works really well.
I have my wireless on all the time at work and at home and get push emails from hotmail fine.
So i would say maybe its the software.
Advanced email is very good. I use it alot because it can also get folders you create and not just the inbox.

Yahoo Email Question

Is anyone else having issues with yahoo failing to sync when sending/receive emails? I have the HTC Fuze and using email setup, I also tried setting it up manually but I doesnt really matter as sometimes it will work the it stops working.
Just curious.
Thanks..
I was having issues with gmail not sending emails but receiving.
I set up my yahoo account which I use for spam and that sent and received so I deleted my gmail account and set it back up and now it works.
Hopefully that helps you out.
try to reset the phone. happens to me with aol mail
I only use WiFi or BT for my mails, and have the issue with Yahoo-mail that in my home net I can't send mail, only receive. At work I can do both. I think this has to do with some blocked port by the internet provider.

Captivate Not Sending Email

Has anyone had a problem with sending Email? My captivate has been fine up until this point, but for some reason starting today I can recive emails, send txt and mms and everything but Emails just sit there and say sending. I am rooted but thats about it. Anyone have any suggestions or seen this before? I tried doing the hard reset and all but nothing seems to be working. I flashed back to my nandroid back up and still not sending. Thanks.

You talking from the native Email client or the Gmail client?
If you're talking native Email client, try "updating" your IMAP/POP (or whatever you're using) outbound settings and then resend. See if refreshing the connection settings fixes anything.
BTW, this is the first I've read of this kind of issue...I am not seeing it.
Make sure the outgoing SMTP server settings are not biting you.
If you have the outgoing server settings for your wireless carrier's SMTP but are transmitting via WiFi it can cause a problem. The opposite is also true as in you have set the outgoing smtp for your ISP but are not using WiFI at the moment.
I mention this because it is a frequent cause of people losing outgoing email ability after setting up their accounts and then logging into a wireless access point.
...Lets say your wireless providers outgoing server is CWMX.com (at&t) but you are connected to your home wireless router that is using Time Warner Cable. If your phone is using a local network connection such as your home wireless router and not sending data through AT&T's network it will not be able to find CWMX.com. It would need to be set for your ISP outgoing SMTP or switch back to AT&T network for data.
Im not guaranteeing this is your problem but this would be my first guess with the little information provided.
Sorry for lack of details. It is actually the Gmail client that will not let me send emails. When i set up the native Email system I can both send and Recieve. Its just when I use the Gmail client that it just sits there and says sending, but never sends. I can recieve email all day long in the Gmail client.
1. Do you happen to be using Juice Defender or and automatic task killer?
2. Did this happen for the first time AFTER you restored a backup?
3. Have you tried clearing data/cache?
I have cleared data/cache, it did not happen after the back up it was before, and I do use a task killer. Its just odd because even maildroid and k-9 will send emails. Its only my gmail app that will not send them.

Google haas been making changes to the gmail servers recently. There is a thread in the Google support forums about it (don't have the link handy) that may have something to do with it.

I was referring to the task killer as a possible issue. Some people have had problems with task killers shutting down email sync. I' lost for ideas. Hope you can get it worked out. Though I have not experienced this, you definitely are not the only person with the issue.
Good luck!
I have had the same problem. It does send just not right away particularly emails with attachments. I sent an MP3 yesterday to a friend and it sat in the outbox for over and hour. I send a one line email today and went out instantly
email issues
I have been trying to send via aol and cant get the cell to send. It worked initially. i think i had set it up with one aol account and then switched to another aol account and the system isnt working since.
I dont know what to do... but i do get emails on the cell. its very confusing and i have checked the smap ...any ideas for me to try? also cant find how to sync cell with pc without clearing out the harddrive. Ive only had this for abour 1 month and already have a number of photos that i dont want to lose not to mention all the contacts!

Deleting emails from phone while keeping them on the server.

My sister recent went from a Blackberry to a Thunderbolt. She liked how on the BB she could delete an email off her phone and still keep it on the server and wants to know if it's possible to do this on the Tbolt. She doesn't use gmail. It's a Cox Communications email account. Is it possible to do this on Android?

Stolen from another forum (original post regarded an EVO - but likely applies to all Android OS phones.

Mail accounts use one of 3 protocols: Exchange, IMAP and POP. Both Hotmail (as of a few weeks ago) and Exchange use over-the-air (Active) sync technology so when you delete a message on your phone, it's removed from the server and thus your client program as well (web/Outlook). IMAP also supports a similar 2-way update.
In order to only delete messages off your phone but not the server, you need to set up your mail accounts with POP instead. POP downloads a copy of and sends mail to/from the server -- nothing else. Hotmail supports POP but your Exchange server may or may not (a lot of larger companies policies do not). You'd have to contact the Administrators to find that out.
If they don't allow POP on Exchange, then ask if they can forward a copy of your mail to another public mail service, like Gmail. Then you can add the Gmail account to your phone via POP.
Remember, if you still want to sync your Contacts and Calendar with Exchange, you need to keep those and just uncheck Mail instead of deleting the Exchange account entirely.

My 2c:
Not sure if it will work - I personally just delete on the fly, be damned the server. However, when I had an old LG v11000 (Envy Touch) I had the VZW email service on it - and even if I deleted from the phone, it was sitting on the server when I logged into Gmail. It was set up "POP3" style.
IF you go under mail/menu/more/settings/send & Receive you can check the box that says "delete mail on server" to turn it on or off. I turn it off so that it will leave a copy on the server but remove it from my phone.

I am having the same, or a similar problem. On my PC I use POP3 to access my mail; the ISP recommended using IMAP on the HTC (with different "in" and "out" mailbox settings for the HTC IMAP i.e. on the HTC two different settings for in and out). Was working fine but then found that messages I had received on my HTC were not appearing on my PC when I got home (my PC had been off, usually it is on, syncing every 2 minutes). I think this is because I had deleted them from my HTC in the meantime.
Trouble is, there is no setting ""delete mail on server" to check or uncheck under mail/menu/more/settings/send & receive, so I cannot follow the above advice. Only Mail size limit, Update schedule, Download options (it's not in there), Auto download message, Folder to sync, Reply with original text and Always bcc me.
What am I missing please ? Software says it is Android 2.3.3.
Thanks in advance.
I use K9 mail and go to more/settings/fetching mail/when I delete
I am flummoxed. I changed the HTC settings from IMAP to POP and did some tests; nothing being deleted ie still available on server. But when I looked at "Send and receive" options, I now have a list with 2 new option, inluding ""delete mail on server". It was not there before. Honest !!
I have been bak and re-set the thing to IMAP, and then the option about deleting from the server disappears again. So I am not going mad. But why should the options be different ?
low on memory
My father In-law has a Thunderbolt and is constantly having a low on memory issue on his phone.. When I go and look at his app's, his exchange is hogging up 2.6 gigs of memory while everything else (APPS) is using only KB'S of memory nothing big.. How would I be able to transfer his exchange email to the SD card,, He has a 32 gig card with 26 gigs of it being free.
Thanks for your help.

[Q] hotmail (non-gmail) issue

the issue is prevalent on all androids: when using htc's mail to add hotmail (or sounds like any email), the synchronization is not quite right... if you have viewed or deleted an email, it is not reflected on the mail server and therefore the next synchronization you will be notified of "new mail" even though you have just read/deleted it.
everyone is blaming the fact it is a POP issue and the solution is to use Exchange or IMAP. there are MANY hits on google with supposed solution. however when i tried them out, i am still getting that annoying problem.
Use K9 mail. I have never had a phantom new mail with any of my non gmail email.
Sent from my Inspire 4G using the power of the dark side.
+1 to K9 mail
tried k9 for 5mins
it doesnt work very well with hotmail (according to the warnings) and i recall i had a problem with hotmail would put up captcha (the image verificaiton) and hinder k9's ability to get mail.
Go to your Hotmail account email option on your computer not your phone.
look for "POP and deleting downloaded messages"
There are 2 options,
Don't let another program delete messages from Hotmail. (If your other program is set to "delete messages from the server," we'll simply move them to a special POP folder. They won't be deleted.)
Do what my other program says-if it says to delete messages, then delete them.
Select the second one. It works for me. Your problem should go away.
For some reason Hotmail Exchange ActiveSync is not the true Exchange ActiveSync.
ah thanks. i recall they recently implemented that feature... that explains why my hero (which was working) also suddenly broke.
edit: it works. all fixed.
now i cant be any happier with my inspire (battery could always be better)

[Q] Tasker and Email Sync problem

Hi all,
Not 100% sure if this is the right place to post this (if not could someone please move?), but I have a problem I could do with some help with!
I currently have gmail, hotmail (for personal emails) and the normal android email (for work emails) apps on my Galaxy S3. These are set to receive emails all day long, however as most of the time at work I am in front of a PC, I would like to stop syncing from these apps at those times.
I have set up tasker to recognise when I am in the vicinity of my work wireless router, and gone to the Net section and disabled auto-sync when the tasker profile is activated.
This seems to work perfectly with gmail and hotmail, however my work exchange emails still come through on my phone. I recall reading that this might be because there are separate setting for sync actually in the email app?
Is there any way anyone can think of to get this to work?
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: It does appear I just received a notification for a hotmail email too? But all others haven't come through to my phone today, so that may just be a blip?
Nobody have any ideas? I'd be happy to explore other ways of achieving the same...
