[APP] WORKING Viper SmartStart APK for those having issues... - HTC Sensation

I don't know if anyone will find this useful, but I am hoping that at least one person will...
I bought a Viper SmartStart system for my Jeep. Absolutely loved the idea of being able to lock/unlock/start my car from anywhere in the USA where an internet or WiFi signal is available. Everything was great until one day....
The app from the Market would say "unable to connect. please try again later..." the instant I tried to use it. It was doing this even over WiFi, so I knew the app had an issue, and not the phone/service.
So after writing to ***** at the company, I received a beta app that works 100% of the time now! For those in the same boat that haven't had the time/gumption to complain, I am attaching the apk, so we can get back to enjoying our 2-way alarm/remote start services.
Highly recommend this product if you live in cold areas or have to leave vehicle in a less-than-stellar area. I'll spare you the commercial but it IS worth it (assuming your car is too!)

OMG!!! Thank you thank you thank you thank you!
I have been soooo pissed that mine has not worked since I got this phone!
You are my hero my friend!

LOL so was I...make sure you keep a copy of this archived. I also unchecked the auto-update box in the market. I'll never update this as long as it keeps working properly.
Glad you found this useful, I was hoping at least one person would!

SmartStart operates on its own satellite receiver. When you start your vehicle using your phone, a signal is sent to the satellite, then back down to your car's receiver. It's got about a 5 second delay, but works pretty well.
One thing to keep in mind, SmartStart requires a subscription ($50 a year) to use as advertised. There is a kit available to add a remote and remote receiver, but that kind of defeats the whole purpose of the SmartStart system.

Just bought and installed my Viper Smartstart system....will this app work if I have not yet "activated" or purchased their ridiculous $60 annual plan?

Gps software

Hello all, I just got and unlocked htc fuze running elite rc2, phone works great, loving it until now but I really wanna make use of the GPS feature. I,ve heard dozens of people saying that they found free gps software like tom tom or garmin or igo to install on their fuze. Id really like having a gps like that with turn by turn nav and not have to use my 3g network, if anyone can help me, i barely had the cash to dish out to get the phone, dont have more money to waste on gps software.
thanks in advance!!
Just where are you trying to lead your thread to...??
well im trying to post to anyone who owns a raphael, that may have an answer for me

You might want to try amazegps.com. It is free and has turn by turn directions. It is free (ad supported). In the next rev (March or April) they are telling us that the route maps will be downloadable. This prevents losing your way when you go out of tower coverage (which happens with Google Maps).
I only installed it 2 days ago and have used it once. It seemed to work pretty well and having the turn by turn sounds is an improvement over google maps.

FINALLY! Official Google Navigation for Canada

It's about freaking time. The BRUT hack is awesome but it's nice to have the official stuff work.
http://googlemobile.blogspot.com/2010/06/fun-on-autobahn-google-maps-navigation.html
Great news, thanks for the heads up! I was actually in the process of shopping around for a paid app that did this.
awesome..,
still not available for dowload on the market though

Not sure about everyone in the world but my X10 here in Canada came with the google Navigator app pre installed.
well, the app is installed, its just won't work lol.
it's too late now but before when you try to navigate it will not find a route.
Brut is awesome tho, so I am just glad that it works now.
However, I am messing with Brut's caching function so I might still use brut's map for general map search.

I don't know what you guys are talking about but it works here in Victoria, BC Canada. I just did a test from my house to Wendys =). It gave me turn by turn and was impressed with the accuracy of the route. It was quite smooth when turning too. I purposely made a different turn and not follow and it would automatically re-route. Nice

Does it show you the street view all the time? Mines only shows the pic when you need to turn. that's it.... Don't know why.
Hmm. Mine still says navigation is not available in my area (south western Ontario). Anyone else getting this?

You mean the map? It does. It would also say the street name when it needs me to turn.
For those trying to find the "new" version on the market. IT DOES NOT EXIST.
Canadian navigation has just been unlocked on Google's end. The 4.2.0 version that you have, that has been out for awhile, will work for navigation now.
got it on x10i.
works really well. bus routes was awesome.

Sorry to drag this old post back up but I just got my X10 last night (coming from HTC Magic) Simple question (most likely dumb) does this use your data at all or is the same as using a standard GSP? I seem to hit my data limit every month just don't want to push it over.
Thanks
Clinton
Yep, is using data.
Thanks, guess it wasn't a stupid question after all. That's interesting, guess I'll be using the GPS instead. Not much of a feature then is it.

It uses data, but not alot of it. I'd say about 1 mb for about an hour of driving, give or take.
I downloaded it from the market and it works for me.

Anyone tried Navigon on Transformer?

I really loved Navigon on IOS so when it was announced that it has been updated for Honeycomb I broke down and spent $40. Well, not only do I get frequent force closes I also can not locate the Options menu. I just deleted and reinstalled it, waiting for all the downloads to finish. Has anyone been successful with Navigon on their Transformer?

Google Maps require an internet connection to download the maps. Navigon stores all maps locally so you can use it anywhere you can get a GPS signal.

I bought CoPilot a while back for $5. Google Maps still beats the pants off it (not surprising, IMNSHO it's better still than my standalone Navigon), but I've got CoPilot installed as a backup for when i'm out of signal. Works just fine on the Transformer as well.

OOoooooh. I didn't even consider the option of having a fully downloaded app. It'd be cool if google would allow an app that we could pay for, for a fully downloaded app. Perhaps someone could hack the app to do this?

I don't know why Google hasn't thought/allowed that. There are hacks to pre-cache maps but they are cumbersome and don't always work well.

I have motonav Nav N Go 8.4.2.11 running with resolution 800 x 480 only, so it only a portion of the screen, but it work good, and utilized the GPS well, I wish they have a xoom version coming soon.
I'll just second the Google Navigation. I tried it a couple of times and it worked great. It wasn't really a reason for me to buy the Tablet, just added value.
google maps is a completely different app.
for me, I use CoPilot live, IMO it's the best out there right now (even speaks street names!) that has full Canada and US Maps.
Google maps is good for taking a quick peek at where you are going. I only have my GPS on when I go cross border, so if I were to stream maps off google's servers over my 3G connection, I would get dry anal raped by my bill.
I'm also using copilot and so far it is great. My old TomTom is falling apart so I need a new gps anyway, so this will keeping me from buying another gadget. I've never seen a gps unit that is as fast as the TF is running copilot.

You can use the same receipt number and access code to authorize the TF as you did on your phone. That is how i was able to use it on both my Captivate and TF.
The amazon appstore has some kind of navigation app for free today. Might be worth checking out.

Vlingo JUST pulled support on Android (I bought jawbone era specificaly 4 it!)

I purchased the jawbone era yesterday to use specifically with Vlingo. I get home and spend all night trying and re-trying to click the link onTHEIR WEBSITE to download for Android, only to find the link corrupted. Or, more like broken. I called customer service and to my surprise got an answer that for the time being Vlingo has decided to stop making their service available for Android. They said that hopefully they'll get the software issues resolved soon but there's no e t a.
I can't help but think that has something to do with their announcement to be exclusively preloaded on Sprint phones beginning with the galaxy s 2.
does anyone on here have the ability to post their version of Vlingo up for download for people like me?
many thanks,
Vicstarman

Thanks a ton y'all!!!
Parmijo11 and others,
Really, thanks so much for your time and sharing / links etc.
What a delight to get such helpful answers on a forum, so quickly! XDA Dev really is the best group of tech heads out there. Pros!!
thanks a million. I was able to download with no problem from Amazon. NOW the moment(s) of truth will be to see if it works, how many glitches my phone actually causes, and most importantly, if I can get my Bluetooth to work instead of the phone's mic. If I have to use the phone's mic (or a wired headset) then Google Search voice commands work near flawlessly for me already. Though it is nice to have the InCar feature to read, safely, incoming texts.
THANK YOU!!!!
help! Vlingo can't "hear" me
works great.... except for one "tiny" issue (probably why vlingo pulled out for my device):
No voice commands! Vlingo isn't able to detect my voice for any features whatsoever. Not through the phone mic or a wired head set. I just get a red box with an "X" in it when I'm supposed to be speaking. And the large box that would read "Done" is grayed out and not responsive to touch.
Ideas?
How do I select Vlingo in my voice input settings?
Tried Settings - Voice Input and Output Setting...
No mention of choosing Google, Vlingo, or any other option.
And yet another....
Well, it appears Vlingo had good reason to hold off on the Sensation for the time being. GLITCHY! After 3 hard resets (one by taking battery out for a minute) I got the voice commands to work perfect. They when saying "send" for a test text msg, it said "Your message is sent", and the screen went to an animated "sending" message.... and stayed there.... locked there.
I hit home, then re clicked on Vlingo icon, reopened Vlingo, pressed InCar to go back in for another test... InCar is locked. Won't even go in at all.
I guess I'll just get what use I can out of it, and maybe they'll put out a new updated version for my phone that works flawlessly.
Thanks for your help people.
Cheers,
VS
I have version 3.0.4 of vlingo which also has vlingo in car, works perfect. I know that in order for it to work good you need to have the voice dialer installed.... on the sensation anyway. What version does everybody have? If I knew how to post apk's I would post it.

Here is Voice Dialer.
If you have Vlingo 3.04 could you attach that. Obviously as long as its a free version
You do this by choosing "Reply" after this post then switching to "advanced" in the resulting "Reply to Thread" box and then "Manage Attachments" and upload the file as a zip
Here in the UK we don`t have access to Amazon App Store

You're very welcome Dave! Thanks for posting the apk, I was having a hard time doing it from the mobile site. Hope this helps y'all!
Dirtyhamster / Dave, THANKS. Works flawlessly!!
didn't understand how to install a DPK... duh, figured it out. DL it on the phone, clicked, installed. Works completely perfectly!
What's interesting is that the version available as of today on Amazon is not even similar in many ways to this one. The layout is different, and the Amazon one crashed my phone completely. Uninstalled it.
Put yours on and in under a minute I was flawlessly voice controlling my phone 100% hands free. You guys are the best! I wish I could buy you a drink for real!
I needed this to work! I was distraught after investing in the Sensation and planning on being able to use Vlingo in the car for hands free.
Last test is to try it with the bluetooth headset. I JUST returned the Jawbone ERA thinking it was a hopeless cause. Thinking about saving a bunch of money and just getting the Blueant Q2 instead though. They both use Vlingo, so should work well.
Opinions?
Yaaaay Vicstarman! So happy it works for you!
I'm not familiar with the blueant q2 but I have the blueant s3 and I love it! It's the speaker system that clips on to the visor of the car....
I just wanted to mention this- To wake up vlingo in car you say out loud "hey, vlingo" and then it'll speak "what to you want to do"? ( in settings you can add your name and it'll say "what do you want to do vicstarman" ) She is very particular about the way you say "hey vlingo".... Took me a few tries to wake her up..... Maybe it's just my "Bahston" accent that she doesn't like

IMO I prefer Jawbone because of the noise assasin tech. BUT I also use my blueant S4 whenever I am in my truck. It's always on and that battery lasts about 2 weeks before I need to charge. Otherwise I use the era and have no problems with static or range as some are having.
I got my Jawbone Era for 80bux open box new. I know the q2 is almost half that but I do not like the earloop. Earloops don't work well with my glasses.
But I heard some like the blueant just as much as the jawbone. I also prefer the jawbone because of the good mytalk programs that can be installed.
nice one guys glad everything is working OK. Thanks go to Andrea for offering to share her version of the software.
Its working well for me too and doing everything I need

Automobile device that connects to Andoid phones?

I haven't seen much discussion on this, but I saw it on some Android BLOG a while ago. So there are these "dongles" that plug into your car's computer and talks to you phone to give you all sorts of data from your car.
The one I found is called Automatic: http://www.automatic.com/
Has anyone had experience with this type of thing? If so, which product did you use?
Thanks,

I use an application called Torque (Pro version) and an OBDII BT dongle from eBay
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Super-Mini-...231?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_2&hash=item3a879398c7
Works great and I don't pay any other fees.
Less than $20 and done.
Awesome. Thanks for the input.
Looks like I'm going for the Super Mini ELM327 V1.5 OBD2 OBD-II .
I Appreciate it!
Yeah, torque is the best. I've been using it for 3 or so years now. Best app I have ever purchased and try dev has always been active. I hate paying for an app, like juice defender, that the dev just dumps after 6 months.
