Gps software - Touch Pro, Fuze General

Hello all, I just got and unlocked htc fuze running elite rc2, phone works great, loving it until now but I really wanna make use of the GPS feature. I,ve heard dozens of people saying that they found free gps software like tom tom or garmin or igo to install on their fuze. Id really like having a gps like that with turn by turn nav and not have to use my 3g network, if anyone can help me, i barely had the cash to dish out to get the phone, dont have more money to waste on gps software.
thanks in advance!!

Just where are you trying to lead your thread to...??

well im trying to post to anyone who owns a raphael, that may have an answer for me

You might want to try amazegps.com. It is free and has turn by turn directions. It is free (ad supported). In the next rev (March or April) they are telling us that the route maps will be downloadable. This prevents losing your way when you go out of tower coverage (which happens with Google Maps).
I only installed it 2 days ago and have used it once. It seemed to work pretty well and having the turn by turn sounds is an improvement over google maps.

What's my cheapest option to trial GPS Navigation?

Hi all
I'm toying with the idea of getting a GPS based navigation system to use with my QTEK 2020i.
I think that the Navigator kits are quite pricey for someone who isn't sure they;lll get the use out of them though.
What's my cheapest option if I wanted to try this stuff out?
I don't mind buying a generic GPS receiver as I'm sure I can use it for something else (!?????) other than satnav.
Is it as simple as buying one of those £29 GPS reciever jobbys off ebay and then downloading a trial version of tomtom???
Cheers all
Wayne
there is no version for trialing tomtom. your best bet would be to to buy a kit from 1 of the online shops to be honest and i wouldn't recomend ebay as they are not legal copy's and hence don't work properly

eh?
So I can't download like a 30-day trial!...How do they expect people to know if the product is anygood?
I know it probably is but that for me isn't the point...I want to see if I'll actually use it and how I'll use it, that's how I'll know if it's worth me buying it.

Well, I bought a Qstarz BT-Q880 32-channel GPS receiver, which works excellently with the XDA 2i and TomTom 5.
However, I did download TomTom 5 via BitTorrent... Purely for evaluation purposes. Of course.
If you have €369 to lend me (with long-term repayments at a low interest rate) so I can buy the damn thing straight away, then hell I'll buy it straight away. I do think they charge an arm and a leg - and the Plus maps (the more detailed versions of the maps) cost a good €150 extra - at least.
The long and short of it is that you'll have to break the law in some way or another if you want to evaluate GPS software before you make your own purchase of the software - which I do intend to do when I have the cash (Uni students don't really have that much spare to be honest, but I do buy the software for my XDA whenever I can).
just to say though, no matter how you aquire the software, a basic GPS receiver is still gonna cost you around £45 - £50 via Ebay.
And I'm not sure what other use you would have for it other than SatNav, except maybe wifi hotspot logging.
Geocacheing!

still, that's a lot cheaper than paying £££ on TomTom!
If I did it this way and then used a less-than-legit version to trial it, I could then upgrade to a proper version later and then sell the GPS receiver.
If I buy TomTom now and don't use/like it then I stand to loose a lot more money (especially seeing as the general impression people seem to have is that TomTom on ebay is fake or no good).
...you see my predicament
Cheers

If you did fancy Geocaching or even just the chance of an Ordanace survey map. I recommend 'aquiring' a copy Memory Map too. I have both on my xda iis, Tomtom drives you to the local area, and memory map will plot everything after that.
Now that sounds like a plan...

dispite all it's bad press on most websites tomtom on the whole is a very good product ,i persoanlly havn't had any reall issues with tomtom apart from the problem being the sd card being to slow with the 2i , i've signed up for the traffic updates which i find to be about 90% correct
i also think most of the problems arise because people are using illegal versions

Not sure I agree with the problems all being down to illegal copies (more so on the 2i).
This is my main concern. If I shell out for an app that crashes etc with little to no support/help from TomTom.
As it is I will probably try a dodgy copy and if it's stable I'll get a proper version. I know that a bad copy may be the cause of the crashes but with TomTom not supplying a trial copy how do they expect people to make an informed decision? You wouldn't buy a car without test driving it would you?!
Nearly all software (including that on the Pocket PC platform) provide trial versions. I've even seen some posts on here to suggest that TomTom used to do this...but not now for some reason?
Lost business I say.
Cheers
Wayne
dotn got to halford and have play with a tomtom go or one the app is the same as is the maps as anis the andy says there have been problems with the 2i this is mainly down to a hardware issue the way round it most users have found is to get a the fastest sd card you can find currently mappopolis is the olny vendor to have a 30 day trial
Aye, I must say for the record that TomTom on my 2i MOSTLY works fine, it only crashes out if you do something like try to use the Ring Number feature - it'll show the screen, but as soon as you select the Point Of Interest category you want, it has a think about it then crashes back to the desktop.
The same if you load up too many Points of Interest on a map, I've also found. I guess that's most likely down to the fairly old SD card I have, an old PNY 256Mb card - but it does the job very nicely, and just has enough space on it (6.66Mb! remaining) to store the TT files, the Netherlands map and the Great Britain Plus map. If you want to load more maps though, you'll definitely need the 1Gb card, the France plus map is something like 370mb - and the main Western Europe map is even bigger.

I can't say I've ever tried it, but Geocaching is a bit of a GPS treasure hunt. People leave these caches hidden in "interesting" places and provide the GPS coordinates to a website, then other people can use their GPS devices to locate the cache and leave a message in the notebook, take photos with the camera or maybe even recieve a little prize. It's for those odd people who go outside, when they could be huddled up in the warm over their PC's
If that vaguely interests you you could look at

Mapopolis looks promising from the site, their bundles are quite handy if you don't want all the extra steps of buying the phone holder, buying the carkit... All of which I did, hasssssssle - I do think I would miss the nifty 3D view which TomTom displays whilst you're navigating your way through the world, but I guess that's only because I'm feeling spoilt now.
When it comes to caching, geocaching.com used to be one of the definitive sources of info on the net, but it's suffering server problems at the moment.
Other good sites:

have you upgraded your tomtom as mine did exactly the same till the new upgrade i havn't had to soft reset since then
I don't have to soft reset, the program just crashes back to the Today screen. I don't really need to use the Ring Number feature anyway, kinda pointless as I can just 118 500.
The issue is moot anyway, since I'm using a less-than-100%-legitimate copy... I'm sure once I have a job post-University I'll be able to afford to buy it, but until then I'm not keeping my hopes up.

GPS software?

Which software do you guys use? i download a few from ppcwarez but they dont work..........any suggestions to compatible software?
copilot live 7 works flawlessly
http://www.alk.eu.com/buynow/htc-copilot-dach.asp?language=German
iGo 8 in my opinion is the best.
The usual procedure here is; try a few different pieces of software until you decide which has the best maps / features / interface for you. No harm using ppcwarez for this I suppose. Once you've decided, buy it. Ironically enough, you will probably still end up using the cracked version from ppcwarez as, for example, iGo8 comes on a microSD card, so it can't be used with the Diamond. Diamond 2 has a microSD slot, but I don't know if it works as I don't have my Diamond 2 yet. Anyway, I prefer having my navigation software and all my other apps on the one large memory card, rather than be swapping them out all the time. But the main thing is that you've bought a licence, and you have access to their technical support, online map and poi resources etc.
Also consider TomTom 7. Many people here seem to use it and like it, but I'm not particularly fond of it.
Unless the search engine on this site allows 3 letter word searches then a new GPS thread is going to start for the Topaz every week!
For some reason the last thread was not under the software topic either. Here it is .....

You can't beat the price (free), and they get the job done.
I prefer Windows Live because I can speak my destination.

That is another popular one. BTW i've never actually used any of the GPS progs, but I've read that the free ones can sometimes give outdated/longer directions. I've read a user who tried Amaze GPS vs Garmin and the estimated travel time was 30 minutes longer for Amaze GPS.

[Q] Captivate Using Bluetooth GPS vs Internal?

I was thinking of buying an external bluetooth-gps receiver for my car and using it along with one of the presumed-to-work bluetooth-gps apps on the android market as a possible work-around to this galactic gps freak-show. Has anybody had any luck with this method or even tried it on a Captivate or any Galaxy S model for that matter? Any exceptional unit vs software combos? How about BTGPS with Froyo?
Search market for bluetooth GPS mouse, works great, free version will disconnected after 10 minutes.
Unsuccessful

I tried GPSGate as well and it worked for me. I tested it with Google Maps this morning and it really is amazing how well my 3 year old HTC Fuze can track me. I guess whats really amazing here is how badly my shiny new Captivate can track...but it was nice to see how well Google Maps Navigation works with a real GPS. I'll probably just use my fuze for GPS from now on...lets face it...if Samsung knew how to fix this in software, it would be done already. This is our only solution until we get our next phone...

I''ve had some mixed results using "Bluetooth GPS Provider". Google Maps and My Tracks have no issue using my bluetooth GPS. It's Google Navigation that does not like it for whatever reason. G Nav requests GPS to be turned on. I'll have to play around more to see if I can get G Nav to play nicely with it. I always preffered using Google Maps better than Navigation though. But this old GPS unit rocks. It's been sitting in my desk drawer ever since I got my Tilt 1. My Captivate GPS has been okay. The biggest issue I have with it is when using G Nav. The GPS will get way off course and then re-route. Kind of annoying. Just another reason why I preffer G Maps over G Nav for directions.

How did you guys get GPS Gate to work? I am trying on my Tilt 2 and it keeps telling me (Under "Active output" in the Output tab) that the Bluetooth Server (SCN 25) Could not find Bluetooth hardware or...(The rest is cut off). I used the wizard to install and chose to share over bluetooth. I triple checked that I am visible and bluetooth is on.
Thanks!
Finally had to use a COM port instead of the bluetooth server. Works fine until opening Google Maps or Navigator. Navigator gripes about having the GPS location shut off (even though I'm receiving through bluetooth) and Google Maps lags very bad. Both programs screw up the location.

I also use Bluetooth GPS Provider. I had trouble with it working with Google Nav at first because I turned off the internal GPS. As long as I don't turn off the internal GPS and I "start" the Bluetooth GPS Provider I find that the internal GPS doesn't fire up and Google Nav uses the external Bluetooth hardware. And it really runs great with much less battery drain on the phone.
The Bluetooth receiver I purchased on eBay was smaller than a car key fob. It cost about $35 with shipping overseas. Here is the link (if it posts, if not just Google BT-Mini-Keychain-Bluetooth-GPS-Receiver-51ch)

CoPilot Gps FREE

Hi guys, just a heads up. Copilot gps navigation is free. You can download any country map for free BUT, there's always a BUT, full voice guided navigation costs you £19.99 in the UK. But hey, its for free. Might be of use to somebody.

Edit: still annoying its only 2D

I don't think so mate. Its from the Play Store so it should be completely legitimate. I think you must've just encountered a bug or something that got you features that were supposed to be blocked.

Yes, I would recommend finding a different navigator... I have the full version and it has a lot of bugs and their support basically sucks... Their solution to every bug report is that there is something wrong on my side and they want me to delete everything on my phone to fix their bugs....

I bought this app for my Wm6.5 and had utterly terrible support, bad enough that I relish the opportunity to let everyone else know. They had this botched system where when you upgraded ROM you had to uninstall and deregister to be able to re-install. Needless to say the system failed and I had to jump through a million hoops to get them to give me a new activation code as if I was some kind of a criminal. Best avoided for sure.
sorry to dig up an old thread but I downloaded the free version of Copilot for my Galaxy Note running 4.1.2 Jellybean and the application doesnt open. It hangs on the splash screen and closes.

I tried that and it didnt work. I also tried a fresh install on my friends Galaxy S2 and he gets the same exact problem!
Unless there is an application or setting on the device causing it to crash? Ideally I don't want to hard reset my device.

Guys I got this working. It was because I had my Text to Speed service disabled. Once enabled it seems to load up just fine
