Accelerometer problem.. - T-Mobile LG G2x

guys..
Please do this test for your G2x to be sure about the stability of accelerometer KXTF9 installed in your device it is from Kionix as vendor.
I found this problem when I purchase the sky chart , it looks amazing on my HD2 droid, but now it has a crazy unstoppable vibrant stars.
Also it happen with google sky, it will not works as I want,
So is my device shipped with damaged accelerometer or is it happen with you all? Please do a test.
Or (as I expect) it is maybe a software bug and there is a patch or something to fix it?
Please help.

It's cyanogen, it works fine in stock rom

Get the free App Anycut
Make a shortcut to hidden menu.
Then look in Device test, there is an Accelerometer test.
Hope this helps.

Tried but didn't see hidden menu option

after reading this I couldn't help but try my g2x out and here are my findings. stock unrooted here
my point of origin for my test was Arcturus which is part of the constellation bootes. these stars are left of planet Saturn.
I found it less seamless. I have tried these apps out long ago on g1 and g2, and a nexus 1 so I am definitely used to more fluid tracking of stars as I move around. I held my phone up right and side ways and looked frontwards, up, and down. seemed to twitch when I held it side ways more so and not at all when I looked directly up and directly down.
I hope this isn't redundant information and if this thread turns into a river of tears about g2x I will make a deal with Satan and redrum some fools
if I rind that after I reboot it is more fluid in the tracking I will say so in a post

Leave Anycut
From new desktop shortcut>Device Test>AccelerometerTest

thanks ikster I tried it out. the thing points in the proper directions depending on where I aim but it twitches a great deal. I'm gonna accept it the way it is, no need for me to expect perfection at this points haha .

My G2x is a little flakey running Google Sky as well, definitely not as smooth as it was on my N1 or MT3G. I've been hoping this would be addressed in an update, but like everything else with this phone who knows.

Push to Talk For ANDROID!

TiKL for Android is a Push to Talk app that uses Voip. Just found this today on the market and have been playing around with it with some friends. Has great potential! I cant post links yet, (if someone could help me out and post one) just do a search for TiKL in the market.
Great app love it has g great potential. Love waking my wife up in the mornings with it. Needs a contacts widget so all you have to so is click on their person to chirp them

Ok
someone please explain to me the usefulness of push to talk. I really never got it, and seriously want to understand how it is used and why it's different than calling someone? And I'm not being sarcastic. REALLY I AM NOT!
Is it just a "doesn't cost minutes" thing? Just a real world scenario where you would use this instead of calling would be great.
We run UPS and Generator tests at my job and there are like 5 of us that need to stay in constant contact with each other while the tests are going on. Some of us are on the first floor of the building, some are on the fourth floor and its way easier to just push to talk rather than dialing every time.

two things it needs
1. widget
2. some type of contact list instead of the pop down menu
thanks OP!!!!!!!!!
any way for me and my buddy to communicate with push to talk? he is on WM and IM on android.
Not at the moment. TiKL is only for android.

GPS accuracy

I noticed the gps on my captivate does not work near as good as my 4 year old blackberry.my captivate can't decide where I'm at and thus can't decide how to direct me to my destination. The accuracy is some times is sometimes only with in a few blocks, not within feet (like with my old black berry). I've tried different rom but no improvement.
IThe gps is critical for me and my work. So any help, ideas is appreciated.

Some people never read my signature. And then if they do, they don't know what it means.
BTW: Known issue, if you didn't do your homework before buying then well.......
woh, wait, the captivates have gps issues? I thought it was only limited to the fascinate.
I have tried all the "fix's" and even loaded 3 different ROM's. No improvement what so ever with any of them.
I beginning to think my hardware is broken, but the problem is that when I use GPS Test it sees the many satellites (many with snr above 30) but none are locked on. Thus I think it must be a SW issue.
turn on wifi also. No idea why, but turning on wifi gets to within 10-20 for me..turn it off and 3600..no idea why..even if im not around a wireless point
I just flashed paragon rc 6 rom and now my gps is spot on but we will see how long that lasts
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I897 using XDA Premium App
honestly, i dont care what people say. Ive seen GPS problems with these phones regardless of what rom you flash. Sure the fixes can help, but they dont fix your problem. The only way to truly fix your problem is send it in, get a new one and hope it doesnt do the same exact thing.
3 captivates, 2 with bad gps regardless of rom/fix. 1 worked fine
sent back in 2 captivates
Now all 3 captivates gps work flawless. What do i think from this? its hardware
Welcome to August 2010.

ive seen gps complaints on just about every smart phone. thing is you need to be smarter than the phone to use fix it.
i have tried a number of fixes and sugestions and find that
A) the gps restore app does something, and it does not over write user settings like the description suggests, really i have used it and all my secgps.conf edits remain as well as the jupiter.xml file and lbs settings.
B) all the cell tower assist features have a negative effect on tracking performance even if they have a positive effect on lock speed.
C) modems have a big effect, but also the modem must be compatable with the gps libraries. if you flash a gps fix you may need to flash a modem. or vise versa.
make sure that the first time to try a different or new fix, you delete the gps data and start it outside and give it 5+ min.

...if you are aware of the existence of xda. I didn't even know this site existed until 7 months after I got my 1006 build. I was so pissed that my $200 smart phone ran like a win 97 computer that I googled "I hate my captivate" and somehow I ended up on this site. now "I love my captivate".
the issue I've noticed with a lot of thread starters is that they don't know $h!t, as in nothing at all, about the phone OR XDA when they post. they're just looking for community support.
I hate it when I see miamison post "should be located in nexus g32 coupe Q&A submarine staples center forum". half of the thread starters are idiots when it comes to this stuff and are just looking for a little help. that is what XDA is here to provide.
I didn't realize XDA had a limited data plan on their forum that only allows for x number of threads per day(they don't).
so next time a newbie posts in the general section about an issue they have, instead of saying "this should be posted elsewhere" or "gah this thread has been #$%@*&% like rabbits" give them the help and I'm pretty sure they will figure out forum etiquette before too long. and you will have good karma .
PS: sorry miamison. just as many threads started as posts you have about the location they belong in. what's the difference?

If you rely that heavily on a GPS, i'd suggest getting a cheap car mounted one. I would never trust my phone, espeically my Cappy, for GPS if it's vital to my job.

thank you LG for gingerbread works great!!!

I updated..must restore stock recovery and unroot...wow everything works great...lets talk about positive changes this update has done to our beloved g2x's.
Plugging in a USB cable the mass storage notification now pops up so fast it startles me.
Finally a positive thread.. My phones doing good as well.. No update will be bugless..
Everything I use works great. But there are some tiny things...... but its the best gingerbread build I've ever run on the g2x that's for sure.

On my 3rd G2x and it has been solid cept for a few things, such as GPS taking up to 20 minutes to lock, apps being unable to be moved to SD-card, whenever adding an app or widget to the homescreen would lock up the phone for a bit and would take up to 5 minutes to pull up a list, eating through a battery down to 40% after a full charge within 3 hours of light use.
Granted I fixed almost all those issues by rooting it and applying fixes I discovered through this wonderful forum. From the GPS fix (it locked within about 20sec-3minutes, much better than before) and the pre-opt-dex patch that was put up here which totally helped when adding apps/widgets to the homescreen(3-10 seconds compared to the 5 minutes). To some battery monitoring apps and charging techniques that helped me get the best out of my battery, which saw a full charge last about 9 hours before it squealed to be plugged back in.
Now with Gingerbread finally installed the GPS lock is virtually instant, the apps/widgets are likewise, almost instant. The battery seems to be a bit better. I took it off the charger at 4pm and its still at 25% at this time (12:49am).
As odd as it seems, I look back and am thankful for the buggy G2X. While I really liked my Nexus One, I never really delved into the community much. It was a solid phone and never had any problem, save for the complete lack of space to put apps on it. The buggy G2x lead me to this wonderful forum which was full of people with helpful opinions and great tips. Through the assistance of everyone here I learned a lot more about the Android system and about phones in general. Coming from a big PC background (I like building and fixing them) I liked that the Android OS provided me with similar work around that I did when working on PC's.
So, while the initial experience with the phone was nightmarish, in retrospect I really learned something, it's good to know that there is a group of people dedicated to making sure we get the best out of our phones and freeing us from the shackles of the providers limitations on the phones (rooting rocks!!)
A note to T-Mobile and LG. Why did you rush this phone?!?! I would have gladly waited till July for a fully functional phone. Without Gingerbread this is one of the most powerful phones in the universe, with Gingerbread it can now take advantage of that power. It's not like the competition was putting out anything much better than the MyTouch4g at that time, yes the Atrix, but that was a buggy nightmare too. So what if the Sensation beat this to market, this has stock android, an arguably better (supported at least) GPU, and is rootable. I would have waited. Look right now, for my criteriahttp://blogs.computerworld.com/16755/android_user_interface for a phone my options are currently the G2X, Nexus S and....can't really think of anything else... So seriously, coming from a Nexus One, the obvious choice is the G2X. I would think that a decent chunk of the people reading this would agree.
same here
I was one of the lucky ones to have a G2x without issues
stock phone not rooted, update went thru without problems and the phone feels snappier; I do miss the original LG camera app though
It's good to hear everyone is happy with their phone...now I won't have to read about everyone jumping ship to the sensation.

uhhhh try restarting the phone first and see if that fixes it... otherwise you are going to have to throw CWM on there and restore to stock and try doing the update again OR wait until there is a flashable bootloader posted up which is likely to be soon...

And was it my imagination, or is the universally-despised "battery fully charged" pop-up gone now? (I charge overnight while I'm sleeping, so it could well be that I dismissed it in my sleep.)

I tried Super 1 Click Root 1.9.5 but no go. Has anyone succeeded in getting root after updating to 2.3.3? Please share your root info.

[Q] GolfLogix w/ CM7 - can anyone get it to work or recommend an app?

I picked up a new hobby known as where you hit this tiny white ball with a metal stick known as golf. I'm new, i suck, and I need all the help I can get.
I looked into several and it seems the golflogix app is the best all around. I have an issue though. It doesn't ever seem to pickup my GPS signal. https://market.android.com/details?id=com.golflogix.ui
I have a rooted inspire 4g running the latest nightly of CM7. I know my phone isn't a supported device, but I am curious.
If this app doesn't work for anyone else who uses a golf app for rangfinding make a recommendation? I particularily liked the fact golflogix would keep track of my distances based on the club... I have issues knowing what club to hit when.
Maybe try using GPS Status to get a good lock first and then opening Golflogix.

My Spen "Reset" App

I hope this is the right place to post this. I have owned and really loved my N7000 for several months now. As an ex-Palm user, the SPen stylus was a huge draw. I began to note, however, that over time the accuracy and the location of the floating pointer of my SPen began to drift. I searched and found many people complaining about this and saw multiple posts of "fixes" to try. I even found a paid app in the marketplace that claims to deal with this. I recalled that on my various Palm devices I occasionally had to re-run the touchscreen calibration routine and began to look for one of these thinking it should be built-in. But I could not find one that actually seemed to help.
After more digging I discovered a technique that seemed to work. Simply changing the SPen's dominant hand setting back and forth from my setting of Left to Right and back to Left again made a big difference. But doing so was inconvenient and really had to be done with some regularity to keep things really perfect. After more searching, I discovered how changing the SPen device's dominant hand (not the actual preference setting but seemingly communicating directly with the device) could be triggered by a script. However, this requires ROOT and some way to launch the script. I tired this and found it worked well.
So I decided to wrap this technique up in a little app - my first real Android app. It also requires ROOT and uses much the same technique as the script. You simply tap the app's icon and the quick change is performed - there is no UI. The app determines your current dominant hand setting from the preference file and then tells the device to switch to the opposite hand and back again. Nothing too big here but it seems to work for me (as well as some others who posted this "fix" idea).
I would think it good for this to be scheduled to run regularly (maybe once every .5 - 1 hour) so one never has to be bothered. But for now I haven't figured out how to do this and my guess is there are free apps available that can run this on a schedule. I was able to find such a program to run the script in this manner.
But I have not tested this on any but my own N7000. Will it work for others? Will it work on US carrier's versions of the Note? Will it work on the Note II or the new tablet that has an SPen? I am not sure and am hoping others out there will try this and let me know their findings and suggestions.
Thanks
EDIT: Please note that I have moved the APK file to the Google Play Store. Here is the link.

For those that have it, Tasker should allow one to schedule this activity as needed. For those that don't, I recommend looking into it.
you should be able to get it to run as a service,

Also, I can no report that I have this running on a schedule using the Scheduling function of the excellent SManager app from the marketplace. I have been using that to run the onandroid script automatically to perform nightly backups. It can run executable programs as well as scripts. To run the .apk you use the android activity manager program (/system/bin/am) using the following command line:
/system/bin/am start -n com.whitedavidp.reset.spen/.MainActivity

Thanks, I will look into that. I am so new to this I kept things as simple as possible. A service would seem the right way to handle built-in scheduling. But I would also want to retain the tapping of the app icon so it can be run on command in case the user has set the interval too large and wants to reset things right now.

Feedback on GB or Jelly Bean?
I should have mentioned in my original post that I have tested this only on Stock Touchwiz ICS 4.0.4 using Hydracore 4.3 kernel. It would be helpful to know if this works and does its job well on other platforms. Lacking adequate hardware, I can think of no way to ascertain this except asking others to try and give me feedback. Other suggestions are appreciated. Thanks

Ok that's cool I'm glad I could help (even though it's miniscule lol). I can also say now that it's not just my imagination, because it actually does work. This morning I had some time to kill before a meeting so I was doodling it up. After a while I noticed the S Pen accuracy was really starting to slip, so I ran your app again and the difference was amazing! I'm really surprised that Samsung didn't intergrate an app like this, because you'd figure they'd recognize the precision drops over time by now. Anyway I'm definitely glad I found this man and once again I really appreciate your hard work!

hi
this app is a great idea! please update it with schechule... but i still have problems with landscape mode... there it's always off...
a fix for this would be soooo nice!
thx for youre work!
App runs on paranoid Android.
Not sure about tw roms but on cm/pa and aokp roms pointer icon is always slightly towards top left of screen. If phone is rotated, rather than point to the 'new' top left it is still pointing at the volume up button.
To fix landscape we need someone to work out how to convince the input that the screen is 1280 x 800 instead of 800 x 1280, this (I think) means the spen input would need to recalibrate every time your screen rotates eating batteries for breakfast.
Right handed use landscape where bottom of phone moves right (anticlockwise) you can still see it its just off. If you swing bottom of phone left pointer hides behind spen

Thanks for the info and response. Can you please describe: (a) does my app help when in portrait mode? and (b) can you describe how the pointer is off when you are in landscape (which direction and by how much)? and (c) when you return to portrait mode does the pointer seem right?
I have a more complete version offering scheduling and other convenience features coming and will put both on the marketplace once I figure out how to do that.
PS - I think I read somewhere that toggling auto-rotate on/off may help "fix" the S-Pen and I wonder if this will work for you?
Cheers!

Thanks for your info. Good to know that the app doesn't crash on Paranoid. My phone is TW ICS 4.0.4 with Hydracore 4.3 kernel. On my phone I do not see the issue with landscape mode that you and phasA describe. I can say that I really wasn't liking the way auto-rotate was working on my phone (sometimes just too sensitive). So I have installed this app which basically makes me confirm that I want to rotate. Perhaps this has something to do with my I am not seeing this issue?
I still didnt get the use of this app, sorry i am not at all rude but how can changing dominant hands reset the pointer settings. I mean what does it has to do with resetting the pen settings???
