Using Sensation for 2 weeks now.
Below are few annoying things that i want to get rid off.
1) Loudspeaker volume for calls is very low. I cant use it. (For music, its passable though)
2) Contacts scroll - usually when i scroll on the right side, the contacts scroll based on alphabets. it does not work anymore.
3) Photo of Contacts appears blurry in the call screen no matter how good of a photo you assign to a contact.
4) The incoming call number font is so small. This is pathetic. I expect it bigger and catchy because thats what i will be looking for in a incoming call screen.
5) The overall lag (with 1.2 ghz dual core and 756MB Ram, i was expecting the touch and scroll experience close to iphone.. but its not.. its same old sense + android experience.. this will never change???)
6) the app drawer bounce effect when it reaches the end is choppy.. the bouncing effect in overall is choppy.. it simply don't work.
7) no unicode support for complex languages, this is a deal breaker for me - (iphone do this best. my language is 'tamil')
8) e-mails in html format is not showing up in 'overview mode'. Its always zoomed out. I am not sure if there is an option. Compare a HTML e-mail in iphone and sensation, you will see what i am talking about.
9) the people widget in sense does not make a call when i click it, instead, it takes me to that person contact details. This is even after i assign a default action. Sometime it works and sometimes its not. very inconsistent.
10) Need to disable a lot of 'syncs' to maintain battery drain.. its like 'there is a feature but i cant use it'..
things i don't care about but still issues...
1) wifi death grip - i dont grip the phone in that way
2) touch screen issues - i actually dont have one
3) no HDMI out
4) lot of apps are not really qhd.. its like watching SD content on a HD tv..
but i still like the phone and waiting for root....

My contacts scroll by alphabet? You need to scroll down a little until you see the grey bar and then grab it with your finger.

Thanks pal. I just tried and worked. Looks like i need to scroll a little and catch the bar..
All things that will be fixed once S-OFF is obtained and newer builds start releasing.
No problem, also there is HDMI out. You have to buy the micro usb -> hdmi dongle. Or you could do DLNA if your tv/bluray is capable.
If you go to call settings or sound settings there's a setting for hearing aides that you can enable to make your speakers a bit louder.
For me 5 and 6 are real problems. And I care about death grip and it's really annoying to me
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e
The blurry contact photos and small font of incoming numbers are a bit annoying. I'll learn to live with them I guess.

Thanks again pal. I heard about the dongle but it would have been nice if the phone itself has HDMI out considering it shoots 1080P videos. How nice it will be to just connect the phone to the TV and watch the videos you shoot.. but anyways, i will buy the dongle.. its worth it..
i tried the hearing aid, it improved the in call volume but not thru the loud speaker. Its still the same..
thanks for the suggestions...
Blurry contacts images are only due to Google Contact Sync. I do not sync contact with Google, just with MS Outlook with HTC Sync, and pictures are great and sharp.
The only REALLY BIG issue I'm havin' is problem with WiFi death grip! Damn, I don't know how to solve that.

I think this is also largely dependant on what you put on your phone... I've seen dozens of people who install every app they find even mildly interesting on the market, and as such having them sync and whatever even though they don't ever use them... have you tried removing stuff you don't use like unused widgets/apps you don't use (and are allowed to uninstall..).. this should help with that a lot.

This was annoying me as well. I went to my Gmail contacts from my laptop and put everyone from my people widget in the "starred in android" group. Reassigned a default action and all have stayed assigned since.

This has nothing to do with sensation or sense, it's due to Google Contacs Sync.
I've used to have same problem while I've used to sync contacts with google, but when I've disabled it, it works like charm, and contacts have hires pictures.

False... As other user showed...

False... At least False for me... My contacts photos are PERFECT
4) The incoming call number font is so small. This is pathetic. I expect it bigger and catchy because thats what i will be looking for in a incoming call screen.

10) Need to disable a lot of 'syncs' to maintain battery drain.. its like 'there is a feature but i cant use it'..
EXTREMELY FALSE
My normal usage:
- Wifi: Like 1.5 hours per day
- HSDP: All the day - 1.5 hours of wifi
- 4 email acounts (2 push and 2 1 hour sync)
- Facebook Sync
- Market + HTCSense (TUB....) + Weather Sync
- Like 3h of BT
- All internet browse I need / want
- Whatsapp + Tango
- Games
- I am using the phone a lot !!!! (My first week with it.... is new new new)
Tweaks for battery:
- Nothing (No sw and no special tweaks)
>> Batery duration: Like 1,5 days (default battery)
Probably with a normal use I will reach 2 days...
There is no need to install or tweak anything...
So maybe youre phone / battery is broken.... or maybe u have installed a 3rd party sw that has a power drain problem....
things i don't care about but still issues...
1) wifi death grip - i dont grip the phone in that way
Correct....
2) touch screen issues - i actually dont have one
No problems for me also.....
3) no HDMI out
False.... U just need to buy the cable... (It is not included)...
4) lot of apps are not really qhd.. its like watching SD content on a HD tv..
like 80% of the sw I use is showed perfectly.... Anyway just give time... New gen.... New SW... Is normal.... Do you install Windows 3.11 in a quad core ?

Question with regards to pic quality and syncing.
I have two issues. 1. In messages the pics often don't show up sometimes. Very random. is this because of of the google sync and fb (from Sense) clashing?
2. when pics show up during phone calls they are ALWAYS pixelated even though it is pulling the pic from fb (which I believe is attached to Sense). any way to make these clearer?
Thanks. in advance.

1. Gps. Connected once but since then just uses cell tower. Inside our outside with the longest i let it try to connect would be 10mins while sitting on porch.( no roof on porch clear sky and all.
2. Face book sync. Set to every hour but if it does it on its own it has error. But i i reselect sync it works.( samsung contacts face book ) not the Marketplace app.
3. Volume is very low. My iphone was louder than this phone.I checked all settings and turned to max. Barley can hear it when it in my hip case.
4. No matter what i set the Email notification ring to it just uses the Call ring. Again this is with the Email app not gmail app. Changed the setting from withing email but wont play what i select.
5. Wont play any of my 1080p MKV.( seen post elsewhere that they played avatar 1080p) Will play a 720p i have but wont play sound just video. Thats with 2 diff samples...
6. I get notifications saying ill have xx number of email. But when i go to email there is nothing new, even if i click the actual notification . Either way i check the email either apps or browser. Very weird. Gmail email.
Phone is stock with no Root installed but do have the Launcher app instead of touchwiz ui.
If u have any of these problems or have a solution please post. :Love the phone hate the problems.. Wish some one else around me had this phone so i could at least tell if mine is just a lemon or its what ill have to deal with.
Having trouble using to open G Cisco Wifi APs at work. Connects fine, sometimes works, majority of the time says connected and shows IP but wont give data to any applications.
Poor battry life
Low ring/notification volume.
Hoping these issues can be resolved :-(
Trying to decide if I'm keeping it, love all other aspects of the phone so far. Havn't attempted MKV playback.
Video recording is great, camera is good but may leave some to be desired :shrugs:
i wouldnt worry much most of those are just software issues
My captivate hasnt had any problems with GPS yet but ive read of some who have. Try this trick to enable Skyhook

Facebook sync just sucks ass. A buddy with an HTC Evo 4G has problems with it and the FB app sucks pretty bad compared to iPhone.
As far as battery drainage mine is doing pretty darn good. Check out Android System app. Its free and under tasks itll tell you what cpu usage is being taken up and u can monitor ur battery life.
Are you running FW 2.1-Update1.
And as far as volume I have no complaints on mine (switched over from 3g iPhone)
As far as the weird email xx counter, i'd remove all your accounts and then set up the default email app as an exchange server for your gmail.
Calibrate Accelerometer
Posted on AndroidForums with no results...
I tried playing Raging Thunder (driving game) and my car pulls badly to the right. Also, tried the "Bubble" leveling app and when it shows my phone to be level I'm clearly holding it at an angle.
My friend has the HTC Incredible and he can do a quick accelerometer calibration by placing his phone on a flat level surface and hitting a calibrate button. Can't find any such tool on the Captivate. Anybody?
I had no problem playing a720p movie on my captivate. Sound and video both work.

I saw a bunch of number sequences you can dial to get into all kinds of crazy menus. If there is no way to do it in the settings you might be able to do it from one of those setting screens.
Not sure where I saw it. It was on XDA around here somewhere I'll see if I can find it for you.

The xx where just taking place of Say 1 new email or 2 new email poping up. Sometimes it 4. No "x" show it was just ment as a random number amount.
Newest update as far as i know. 2.1 and i hit check for update and there was none.
OK, so the GPS issue aside, I've encountered some random other problems with my Captivate. I'm JH2 with the SuperRooter tool installed. Some of these are actual problems, some are just gripes.
1 - Sometimes for no apparent reason the brightness will change. It will drop all the way down to the lowest setting and I have to go in and manually raise it up again.
2 - Google Voice has been problematic, to the point where I'm not using it any longer. Even though I've set my phone to send voicemail to my Google Voice number it only works about half the time. The other half it goes to my AT&T Voicemail. I MISS the voicemail on the iPhone!!!!
3 - Most of the time when I unplug the USB cable the icon still shows in the status bar, and when I click to turn off USB it still stays there, and only a reboot of the phone fixes it.
4 - I hate how the ring starts off soft then increases in volume, it's dumb that we can't change that.
5 - The email interface is less than desirable. Actually uit's not the interface itself, but rather a couple limitations. One, you can't move messages to another folder - so I have messages in my inbox that I want to move to another folder in my gmail account, and I don't see the option anywhere to do this, I ahve to log in to the computer to do this. Two, on my hotmail account, the other folders I've created don't even shows up, so I have no access to those messages at all.
6 - I have other random wierdness from time to time, like tonight internet connectivity over wifi just stopped working, then started working again an hour later for no reason.
7 - The only apps I miss are my GuitarToolkit, the DrumKit app, and the i.TV app which was an all in one tv guide and let me schedule my Tivo recordings...
8 - ...and of course we all know the GPS sucks!
I have about 3 days left to decide if I want to keep this device or just fork over what's left of my sould and buy the iPhone 4 (I've been a 3GS user for about a year and have been generally happy once I got it jailbroken). Most of this stuff individually isn't too bad, but put it all together and throw in the GPS debacle and, well I shouldn't have to justify to myself WHY I want to keep a phone...

You should look into K9 mail. It's an awesome app and let's you have multiple identities ala Thunderbird so that you can send from your other email addresses w/o having to set up separate accounts on your phone. Very slick program, can move between folders, has archive, junk, etc.
I don't know about the others. I took my Captivate and returned it, but passed on buying a 32GB iPhone 4 because I know one of two things:
1) If the GPS and lag are fixed and/or GPS is fixed and we get Froyo I'm back to a Captivate or,
2) There will be another upcoming phone that is more open than Uncle Stevie's vision of what he wants us to do with a phone.
Having been an iPhone 3G and then 3GS user (yep, went back to my 3GS but only for 6 weeks or so) I can say that having remembered what real multitasking is, real choice is and real options with software - I ain't goin' back. YMMV.
I'll be willing to bet that number 1 is due to your finger on the notification bar. If you slide your finger across it, the brightness will change.
2. Bug with Google Voice, not a hardware problem.
4. Ringtone starts quietly so you have a chance to catch it before it gets obnoxious. It only stays quiet for half a second, and if your phone is ringing, half a second isn't going to make or break the call.
I had a similar problem with Google Voice. I just deactivated the service for my phone number then reactivated a few minutes later, haven't had any problems since.
I'm not sure if that'll fix it for you, but you might want to give it a try--just go to your voicemail settings on the Google Voice website.

Maybe, but I would agree that the option to turn it off should be available.
I bet the brightness problem is because you can change the brightness by sliding your finger across the notification bar. It's actually a very nice feature when you get used to it.
If I were you,i would go through the google voice mail set up again. I haven't had any problems with it at all.
Also, my ringtone does not start out quiet and then gradually increase in volume. Is it possible that the ringed you have tried are just recorded that way?
Thanks for the tip ob the brightness setting.
As far as I know the ringtone thing applies to every captivate so either yours is going it and you just don't notice it or you've got a special firmware or something

I also missed my visual voicemail. I've found that YouMail is an effective if not perfect replacement (my only real gripe is it is a separate app not integrated into the phone app).
That's too bad. I literally have none of those problems.
By far my biggest problem has been GPS, like others. However, with JH2, left all at stock settings I actually have good accuracy - even after 3 days - google nav has been right on. I used cardiotrainer and went for a walk and it was again completely on - better than my old Nokia N79, better than 5m accuracy.
Initial lock times were slow a bit over a minute (default has skyhook off). I put skyhook on yesterday, so I am interested to see if my improved accuracy after initial lock continues. What I have found is that all the suggested chances in the GPS fix might help initial locks, but went to crap after a day or so - and never really had the accuracy while moving. JH2 at all stock has lower initial lock speed, but must have a gps fw algorithm change leading to much better navigation / moving accuracy.
Bottom line - I will be shocked if Samsung doesn't have a 100% GPS fix next month (or with Froyo).

I dont think you know what you're talking about in reference to Hotmail. I have a hotmail account and when you go to the browser and login to your hotmail account, all the options are there. Right in the middle of the screen is a "More" button, just click that and a list flies out and scroll down and "Move to" and the list of custom folders is right there. It has full functionality of the desktop site.
If you're trying to use the built-in email app to work with hotmail, dont. It wont work. You have to use hotmail through the web browser. Hotmail has a great mobile website.

I had a similar problem with Google Voice. I just deactivated the service for my phone number then reactivated a few minutes later, haven't had any problems since.
I'm not sure if that'll fix it for you, but you might want to give it a try--just go to your voicemail settings on the Google Voice website.

Yes, to activate google voice for your phone you have to go to the google voice website and follow the instructions there. You have to enter your phone number and what mobile carrier you are using and then it gives you a string of numbers and characters that you must dial from your mobile phone to tell AT&T to forward your missed calls to a google voice server/phone number.
Do that and it should work fine. I did and have had zero problems from google voicemail.
If you have brightness on automatic it will change screen brightness based on light in room. If you go outside it will turn brightness up. If your in dark room it will turn brightness all the way down. You can test by covering sensor on fron with your finger and see if brightness drops. If you dont like it turn off in settings.

Make sure auto-brightness is turned off...also, like someone else mentioned, the notification bar lets you adjust the brightness by sliding across it horizontally while the gray bar is showing. Neat feature once you get used to it, but it also confused the hell out of me when I accidentally slid it. Best thing I've found is to just flick the notification bar up and down quickly (vs dragging it all the way up or down).

2 - Google Voice has been problematic, to the point where I'm not using it any longer. Even though I've set my phone to send voicemail to my Google Voice number it only works about half the time. The other half it goes to my AT&T Voicemail. I MISS the voicemail on the iPhone!!!!

Assuming you've set it up correctly (which it sounds like you have, since it does go to GV voicemail sometimes), the problem does lie on GV's end. They make it wait 25 seconds before GV will actually pick it up, so your carrier voicemail will intercept it if it's set to pick up sooner than 25 seconds. Until GV lets us decide how long it takes for it to pick up, you can sort of fix this with the following workaround:
1. On your phone, dial *#61# and click Send.
2. Some information should be displayed: number that the calls are being forwarded to and the delay before the forwarding engages (should be your gv #)
3. Dial **61*+1xxxyyyzzzz*11*30# and hit Send. +1xxxyyyzzzz is your GV #, 30 is the delay in seconds. The delay can be set in 5 second increments, 30 is maximum
4. Dial *#61# to verify that the new settings are active.
Unfortunately this means that it will take >25 seconds for it to send to GVoicemail, but it does reliably work.
As for the GPS, I'm optimistic that the firmware fix that Samsung has leaked will solve that and our lag issues, but I can see how that would be frustrating to some who want it to work now (as well they should). Sorry to hear that you're having gripes with the phone, but hopefully these solutions will alleviate some of your issues.

This is a feature. They built in a brightness slider when you draw the notification tray down a tiny bit and slide your finger from left (dim) to right (brightest)
ah sorry, didn't see the answer already. my bad

No offense, but your assumption that I don't know what I'm talking about is way off...
Clearly, I'm aware that you can manage folders using the web interface in Hotmail, otherwise I wouldn't have known how to create the folder initially that isn't showing up in the standard mail application. I thought it was obvious I was walking about the capabilities of the phone, as in the built in email application...
If I have to use the web interface to manage my email then what's the point of even having an email application?
The email application gives me almost the exact same functionality with Hotmail as it does with Gmail, I think you're mistaken that Hotmail won't work in the default email app. The only thing I get with Gmail that I don't with Hotmail is access to view what's in my extra folders, which really doesn't help because I can't do anything with items in those folders like move them around.

I 100% agree with you about moving email. That is one of my biggest gripes too. Also HTC DOES have this integrated into their mail program, and also folder hierarchy. I think it is just poor that Google didn't integrate these right into the stock mail app, and also that Samsung didn't in theirs.
I think not being able to take MMS photos vertically is annoying. I was used to it on the iPhone; I think vertical or "tall" images look better for Facebook mobile uploads, and I can't find a way to take them so they don't end up sideways in the MMS or mobile upload. Any ideas?
Whats reassuring is that almost all of your complaints can be address through a software update.
Its rumored that the GPS fix + Froyo update will be launched simultaneously or very close together.
I haven't seen any threads like this so decided it would probably be a good idea to get one going of all the minor gripes we have or bugs that we've encountered as I've already seen a few. I'm not sure if HTC do have a researcher scouring the net for threads like these to try and find out what the general masses think, but one can only hope...
+ LED notification is absolutely rubbish.
My phone is next to my Hero today as the numbers are being ported and I just received an email to my Gmail. With the phone lying vertically under my screen I could barely see the flash from the Sensation (to the extent that I'd already missed one mail) whereas the Hero was flashing away in all it's beauty to let me know.
+ Phone rebooted when taking a photo.
I've only taken a few pics on here, but after taking one of the dog last night with the flash on, the phone instantly turned off and completely rebooted. Maybe it's a one off, but it definitely wasn't good! Will have to keep an eye out for this happening again.
+ Trace seems a bit hit and miss.
I used Swype on my Hero so am assuming I just need to learn how to use the new one. I'll have to work on that one myself although it may be a case of training the phone not to pick out the most obscure word possible when all I want is to spell "hello".
I haven't really used it enough to spot any others, but I'm intrigued as to what other issues people seem to be finding.
...and on a side note I'm really, really missing the trackball that's on my Hero. Selecting text is so sensitive and I keep catching the wrong bit. I feel quite sad letting the little guy go. He's served me so well!! It does feel like a toy now when I go back to it. Lo-res and chunky!
Good call, I was thinking of such a thread myself.

Can't say I've had either of these. Have taken a lot of photos and about half a dozen 1080p videos, everything seems very stable.
Allow me to add a bug to the list:
+ No shutter button or menu options on camera.
If you have a lock pattern set up, dragging the camera icon into the ring on the lockscreen results in the camera app loading, but there is no user interface. You can see the camera's view, but there is no shutter button or options or anything else to interact with. However, the camera app is fine if accessed as normal from the home screen or app drawer.
Is trace supposed to learn from your usage to better predict words in the future?
I agree on the trackball, I used to have a HTC Magic and selecting text is a lot harder now!

Calendar is not sync with Google calendar. Sync setting is on, mail, contact, Picasa, calendar are selected. Only calendar is not working. Is this a bug or Google's problem?
Anyone also this problem? How to fix it? Thanks.

This is quite annoying. I really like the idea of quick access to the camera, if it actually worked.
I don't have this issue with the camera. I did change some of the shortcuts though and may have re-added the camera one myself. Try that, see if it fixes it.
Edit: oh wait, I see what you mean. Only happens when you have a pattern lock...
Trace is useless. I used Shapewriter on my Nexus and it was amazing, but keyboards don't scale well to higher res. Plus it's been off the market for a year, so I'm not holding out much hope for a qHD version.
Vodafone ROM - Has no rosie launcher (like stock rom), I dont actually use the pattern lock, but i have seen the error with the camera launcher, this is a problem too, possibly we may see a fix for this and others with a minor update.
The LED is rubbish, actually borderline pointless. I've not seen it flash once today despite receiving about 5-6 emails. Maybe if the phone is actually facing you in a holder then it would show, but otherwise it may as well not exist.

Sound with video
Has anyone experienced a problem where sound from video cuts out after a short time?
I'm having the issue when playing through the speaker and headphones, on different files and when using different media players.
If I forward the video on slightly the sound returns, almost as if the sound output is going to sleep with inactivity.
Another bug, added few apps on homepage, those apps icon are changed to Android green icon after restarted the phone.
Maybe this problem is caused by moved apps to SD card. I don't know.

That would be the case. When you create a shortcut it creates a link to a resource on the phone. When you move that resource you get the default icon instead.

Ok as some of the members of this forum may know I got off to a shaky start with my Android wear watch (a Sony SW3).
I've now had it about four weeks and have over come the major problems I initially had, so I thought I would start a tread highlighting the things I love and the things I hate so others can assess if a smart watch is for them.
Firstly, what I love:
- Reading messages from Text, Email, Whatsapp and Messenger
It's so simply to just quickly look at my wrist see if I'm interested, if not I delete, if I am, may read further on the watch or if the message is to long, find my phone and continue there.
- Voice control
A really unexpected plus for me. I thought 'OK Google' was a bit of a gimmick at first, but how wrong could I have been. It's fantastic (OK, I feel a bit of a nerd saying OK Google to get it started, but that's a tiny problem). Driving and going to be late, OK google, Send text message to XXXX, then speak your message eg ' Sorry running late will be with you in 30 minutes. The translation is actually pretty accurate and it's done, you don't have to take your eyes off the road!
- It's an accurate watch, not sure where it gets it's time from but I guess it comes from the phone which in turn gets the time from the network which means no more setting, not running fast or slow. Not sure how it works when you change time zone though but I'll find that out soon enough.
- It's waterproof. Don;t forget to turn the touch screen off, but I've now been swimming with it, I regularly shower with it. Not a hint of a problem.
- Control you music system. I use Sonos around my home and I can turn the volume up and down, change track. Ok it's limited but it still an unexpected benefit.
- Control Bluetooth music with Spotify. Really a feature best used in the car. There's an app that will fire up Spotify on your phone which in turn will use the blue tooth audio to connect to your car. No more digging around to find you phone, unlock it, fire up spotify, find your play list etc etc etc.
- Incoming calls. Nice feature as I can decide if I want to take the call without having to find my phone to see who's calling.
What I hate (ok hate is a bit strong, but)
- The UI I think is not properly thought through You have al these options, tilt to wake, tilt to scroll through cards. Clumsy at best and a battery drain at worst (tilt to wake particularly) Even the touch screen to wake is not that cleaver as it can be operated but a lot of things touching the screen not just me, eg a sleeve, particularly one that is damp
- Voice control Ok I know I've said above that voice control is fantastic but it has one major down side, it needs internet connectivity. If it doesn't have it, it just doesn't work! Wish it would use the processing power of my phone to process voice.
- Wifi, ok I accept this is probably a bug, but wifi doesn't currently work properly, for some reason it will drain all the all the battery for no apparent reason and it does it very fast. I've now turned it off and only turn it on on the occasions because it's great to have full functionality
- Screen, the screen is fine, but that's damming it with faint praise. I would really like to see a higher quality screen and a little bit bigger would be nice.
- Incoming calls. When rejecting a call, it would be good to be offered a 'rejection message' that is sent via text giving a reason for the rejection.
When rejecting calls you can slide up instead of left por right swipe ano it will show up predefined messages that it will automaticly send to The caller.

My complaints (1 month usage) is the app tray feels bloated. Not every app needs to be displayed. Not every app has options set through the watch. Also the layout feels cramped to me. I would prefer some options (icons only, 1x2, list mode, 1x1 mode, text/no text, recent shortcuts at top on/off, etc.)
2. Embedded speaker for taking quick calls without digging for your phone last minute. 1 problem a watch introduces is that your phone starts to be left behind. I now leave my phone on the counter while I buzz around my home. Phone rings, its a mad dash down stairs to find my phone.
3. Some sort of keyboard. I'll take the old school T9 input. Just let me type a few things.

Download wear mini launcher from the playstore. It's a brilliant replacement that let's you customise the watch to how you want it.
I totally agree with you. I also use Android wear for
Reading messages from Text, Email, Whatsapp and Messenger
Voice control
Agree with some points according to my experience with my old android wear.
Hope my new one will work better.
My most of my complaints are solved with the Asus ZenWatch2. It is a solid upgrade to the LG G Watch. Once Marshmallow drops, we'll get a new app tray and speaker support (Zenwatch2 and Huawei) for calls.
I tried the alt launchers and it doesnt replace the stock launcher but runs over top of it. So it just adds to the chaos. However after the nostalgia wore off, I dont really use apps thus dont need to go into the app drawer.
Keyboard: try FlickKey

Try FlickKey Keyboard for Wear. It adds a keyboard to any app that wants to call it. Right now, that is limited to Wear Messenger, Coffee for Wear, and K-9 for Wear - you need one of those messaging apps to be able to use it. BTE, FlickKey is not a T9 style keyboard - it works better than that.
I have tried various keyboards. What I was referring to was an option, by default, in Android wear to have a keyboard input. I don't use any of those apps, thus having a keyboard right now would be irrelevant.
What apps would you like to use a keyboard with?

I certainly agree that users should be able to decide for themselves if they want to use a keyboard or not, and which one they want on their smartwatch. What apps would you like to use a keyboard with? FlickKey can be added to any app with just about 15 lines of code. So message the dev who makes the app you want FlickKey in and let them know they can easily add it for free.
I find Android Wear to be very useful - when it works. Performance on my original 360 hasn't been very consistent either but I'm sure the S400 watches fare much better. Seriously though - every Android OEM needs to switch to AMOLED as soon as possible since it's much more suitable for smartwatch use.
I have installed AW on a Samsung Gear 2 (ported to the watch by @biktor_gj) and it runs really great !
Much much better than the default Tizen where it comes with normally.
Since I am using AW, I'm really hooked on it.
I love to be able to navigate with my watch and/or get notifications (from Google Maps) about any traffic jams or hold ups on my route.
I love to be able to use my voice to respond to whatsapp messages or even use my voice to make a new message without even holding my phone.
Really looking forward to the upcoming version (Marshmellow?), which suppose to have speaker support, because the Gear 2 has a build-in speaker.
So that means I can make calls too again from my watch (which is now only possible in Tizen, but not AW).
Hangouts and Messenger and Email (I know there are email clients that support wear and flickkey). I doubt Hangouts or Messanger will get it support.
Hello everyone!
Hopefully you guys gonna understand that I just got this phone 2 days ago and been a iPhone user since Iphone 4! (Went from Iphone 7 to P2 XL) So I hope I don't get too much hate because hey, after all. I bought the Pixel 2 XL 128 GB
Anyways where to start.. It's been very hard to go from iOS to Android but luckily I studied abit as a software dev. where we learned few things with Androids so I did know some stuff atleast but there is quite good benefits with Pixel 2 XL that made me go :highfive::silly::victory:
The camera, I can just say Holy crap.. I never seen so good camera in my life on a small device like this! No doubt about it, The customization on Android where you can enable bluetooth, locations and all that is a really good one too and the screen is also really beautiful, There is so much stuff that I like with it but also some stuff I still need to learn and that's why I am here, and hopefully I can get the help I want and also hope it's not gonna be very long text aswell.
Problem:
[*]Adaptive brightness
This one goes banana, hopefully im not the only one but I have never seen anything more sensitive brightness as Google's, Changes every page / app you use and feels quite annoying as it goes up and down all the time and it just kills your eyes slowly. I did find an app called Lux Lite that helped me quite abit but with lower brightness takes me to the next point which is...
[*]Black crush
Black crush, For those who maybe doesnt know what it is, basically you can follow it up by watching this youtube clip: youtube[DOT COM]/watch?v=CYMRRn2Fu1s (Yes, im a newbie and joined today )
- Simply showing when you reduce your brightness, the dark color disappears and becomes totally black - The reason I want to use it is just against the night when very strong brightness kills your eyes just at bedtime. I usually check NBA and Twitch Just before I fall asleep, and now maybe it will sound racist but that's just love! Basically basketball players that are dark-colored and make them completely black and you only see their matchwear and it ruins a small part of the match.
I have looked into other videos and found that the issue is not only with Pixel 2 but also coming now to Samsung phones and basically the new Oled where the company gives a bad calibrations. Im not sure what Iphone uses if its AMOLED but look etc. at iPhone X, probably one of the best
detailing in dark areas of all phones that I have tried and sure I could have bought that phone but also i'm surprised this is not anything is talking about in any youtube reviews so I don't know whatsup with this but this is slowly making me go back to my iPhone 7... I hope im not the only one?!?!?!
I did find an app called Screen balance that helps it abit but I mean... 945$ for a Phone that I need an APP that I NEED to buy to make it look good?! Come on?!
But please, don't take this offensive now. It still gives a really good picture at high brightness! no doubt about it.
[*]Notification
Well, This might be a fix that someone that as more experience than me in Android now so basically I will make a construction of what I want and maybe someone can help me out?
Basically on Iphone there is a button on the left where you toggle to turn on or off the sound and what's happends basically is it just kills all sound if the toggle is on and what I did is that I turned off vibrations so basically I get everything notifications just without sound and vibrations AND thats what I want to make on the Pixel 2 XL now, What I have done so far is to hold the volume down button until it changes to Do not disturb and in the settings I turned on everything but now on the Screen "Where you just see the clock" it just sometimes gives me like small icons AND sometimes it gives me like a big notification like iPhone did.. but however, Is there another way I can do this like so its more instead of just the small icons and to check? Because etc when Iam at work I can usually see if something pops out on the screen (Can even be a pop out for 10 sec) but now it can be very hard if it's only a small icon adding. Hopefully you understand ish what I mean!
[*]Email Hotmail issue?
This is a combination of notification and not, basically what I have seen this is not as fast response as Gmail, basically if I get a email from Gmail, the notification usually pops out instantly BUT when it comes to Hotmail, this can take over 15minutes until the email even comes to the Gmail app (Where I connected it with my Hotmail since it had that option). and I sometimes can't risk it when im waiting for a important email to come where I wait too long so I need to check pretty often manually to see if I get one.. Now the issue is I don't know if that is a issue when Don't distrub is on or if its the Gmail application, Does anyone have any solution for me here?
[*]Snapchat
Well what to say here, Im not sure but I do think this isn't a issue coming from the phone itself but Snapchat, The quailty is just awful, Im sure my Nokia 3310 would make a better picture than that on Snapchat :fingers-crossed: but anyways the quailty is horrible and maybe there is a way to make it atleast abit better or something, I know that Snapchat is alot better with iPhone and also this isn't a big issue, like its not end of the world to get this worked nownownow but I do feel like it could be atleast at the same level as Samsung quailty atleast?!
Now I think im done and hopefully I did not overkill and I do hope from bottom of my heart that I could get all the answers of my questions and hopefully it's not hard to read since my English isn't the best one but I did try my best and hopefully I could love my Pixel 2 XL as much as I did on my iPhone! Help me newbie out!
I don't have other issues but my main issue is my pixel 2 non xl is black crushing. It looks like absolute garbage at night like in bed. Some videos I can't watch it gets that bad.
My phone is a Pixel 2 (which this forum is about) rather than a 2XL, so some differences may be related to the different hardware. I've not enough experience with the 2XL to compare.
Adaptive brightess: actually I don't have a problem - it works pretty well, perhaps occasionally I want to raise it a bit in dark conditions (I normally have the slider set between 25-30%, as I find that more comfortable than higher brightness), but otherwise the only time it causes problems is if I use the phone in portrait mode and shade the sensor with my hand.
Black crushing: my phone is a 2 rather than a 2XL, so has a different display panel. I don't have a problem in any of the images I've used for testing until I set the (non-adaptive) brightness below 5%, and even then I'm not in a very dark room at the moment so it may be that I'd see more if I were. But as it's a different panel that's probably not relevant.
The iPhone X is using a Samsung OLED screen. At best it will be the same technology that Samsung use on their current phones, but usually they sell 3rd parties a slightly older revision. So any differences will be in the tuning: Samsung do tend to assume that people want excessive saturation and contrast, so I could imagine them tuning in a way that crushes blacks. The 2XL uses an LG panel: it's fundamentally the same technology (p-OLED and AMOLED are just branding names: both are plastic substrate active matrix OLEDs), but a different company's implementation. People generally reckon Samsung are a bit ahead of LG in that game though.
Notifications: TBH I don't bother with "Do Not Disturb" - I do it old school, with a quick setting tile to toggle between Ring (which is Ring and Vibrate for me), Vibrate and Silent - the latter is neither ring nor vibrate. Not as convenient as the silencer switch on the side (which OnePlus have copied, but then Apple copied it from Palm in the first place), but not much in it (wake phone with fingerprint scanner, swipe down on scanner to reveal quick toggles, then tap it - only takes a couple of seconds in total). I'm not completely clear about the rest of your description of small icons vs big notifications, especially what you mean by "small icons": do you mean little dots on app launcher icons, or a small icon in the notification bar that tells you that there is a notification tile if you pull down the slide? Your "do not disturb" preferences include an option to block visual disturbances, so maybe check how that is set. Some apps handle notifications in different ways. Some apps can use the notification light to inform you that there are notifications waiting, which I find helpful (mind you I turn off the always on display, may be different for you).
Hotmail: I don't use hotmail, but the obvious question is whether you have set it up to use imap push (so you get notified immediately) rather than the phone regularly to see whether there is new mail. It sounds like your email client may be polling every 15 minutes.
Snapchat: I've never used snapchat in my life, so can't help.

Totally my fault that I bringed in Pixel 2 XL into a Pixel 2 thread, that's so stupid of me and I can understand the reason why you couldn't give me the reason I have issues with! but I still appreciate the answers you could bring in here!
About the notifications, if you search on google for ( android 8.1 always on display ) that's what I meant with small icons. But you are right with the notifications, I have found out that every app gives different notifications and some of my apps have really bad notifications, that sometimes they dont even pop out :silly:
About the hotmail it is exactly the issue there, I did set it up in Google gmail and it says it is IMAP but I could only have it on every 15 minutes, Downloaded Hotmails program and its the program that doesn't give me notifications.
Oh, if you meant the Always On Display then actually I don't use it in "always on" mode! I have to tap to wake it, so all I can say for sure is that while many apps leave a notification, if I wake it a second time it just shows the icon. What I don't know is whether in always on mode it would switch to just showing the icon after some time, or when another notification comes in, or whether it would stay there until you interact. There are some that I've never seen show text, but most of those are persistent things I'd not want to show it anyway (e.g. showing that the "WhatsApp web" app on my computer is active is something I'd not want an actual text message for). If you wake the screen with the power button you can usually see more detailed notifications on the lock screen than the always on display.

Yeah exactly! I turned it off and it is like you said, That some applications doesn't show any text or anything but just an small icon on the always on display and sometimes it does show a preview notification (Like a bigger notification) so thats what curious me like what's the reason of that :fingers-crossed:
I've never been very systematic in observing what gives what sort of notification, not least because if I think there's anything significant I tend to unlock the phone to look. I know that some types of notifications never show anything more than an icon (e.g. as mentioned the notice that the WhatsApp companion app on my laptop has connected). Some, such as calendar and email, I know do. I assume that it's linked to the type of notification, but haven't studied in enough detail.
As a test I just turned my ambient display to always on and sent myself an email. A detailed notification appeared for a few seconds, before disappearing and being replaced by the small app icon. With the display set off but to wake when new messages arrive it shows the full notification for a few seconds, and just the icon when I wake it. With it not set to wake the screen for new notifications then when I woke it with a tap I got the full notification even though it had been delivered about 30 seconds earlier (but only the first time I woke it). Personally if I were designing it I'd give options for the more detailed notifications to persist, rather than just be replaced by an icon after a few seconds, but I don't think Google have done that.

Try reinstalling it. I've heard Snapchat is building a new app version from scratch so I'm crossing my fingers it will be better
Otherwise idk what else to do to improve the quality
