Possible to use swype in landscape? - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

So I want to star using a landscape soft keyboard for a bit, as I may be in the early stages of carpal tunnel syndrome. I want to use swype to avoid tapping.is this possible? It looks like sammy locked us out of landscape mode, ignoring that some pripley might enjoy it once in a while.
Edit: I just tried slideIT, and it looks like that may be unable to go into its normal landscape mode as well. Why does samsung insist on locking people out of the native soft keyboard just because we have hard keys? They did it on the epic as well, but my old lg ally still used the soft key in landscape If I didnt open the phone.

Yes, this was disabled by samsung, and therefore would need a very extensive mod/customized rom to have that possibility added. So, to answer your question, no, we can't do that.

WOW thats stupid.*adds to list of reasons to never buy a samsung phone again*

that list is gonna be so big it'll crash your hard drive.

That really sucks, you would think that they would enable it for people like Falkner, (Sorry for your condition) or for easy access, because not everybody like to slide the screen up for something simple... or put it in portrait for the matter.

I found out that GoKeyboard will work in landscape.
However, when I used it it kept trying to auto-correct into chinese or something... anyways, give it a try.
also, GoLauncher is AMAZING with smooth maximus rom

I'm rooted, would smooth maximus allow me to use landscape soft keyboards? Also, I just had a thought and went into the system directory, and under system/usr, I found folders labeled keychars and keylayout, with .bin and .kl files inthem with names like qwerty, keypad, touchkey, and so on. Is it possible that modding one of those files could unlock the landscape keyboard?

Landscape soft keyboards were disabled by Samsung by not building them into the firmware, rather than by the rom. We would need to mod the entire firmware, much more in-depth than anything we have currently to be able to have a landscape soft keyboard.

[Q] Changing TF3D landscape shortcuts

First off I want to thank everyone here at XDA for all the hard work and effort you put into tweaking these great devices.
Now, on to my question, I've searched here and the diamond forum and I can't find any mention of a way to change the shortcut buttons on the landscape TF3D screen. I would really like to be able to customize that screen with shortcuts to applications I actually use. There must be a way to do this, has anyone got an idea?
First post , please go easy on my noobness.
Searchipoos......
Post #9 on first page, bottom ish of second page for a bit extra
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426328&page=2
Thanks Ouza but I saw that post and it's not what I'm looking for. This only deals with changing the two softkeys at the bottom of the landscape screen (which is nice in itself).
I'm wanting to change the 6 big shortcut ''buttons'' above that.
Basically I'd like to make the landscape screen the same idea as the programs tab in TF3D or something like it.
Any ideas... anyone??
I would seriously like to change the big shortcuts as well.I have a dock in my car using the video out. Video out forces Landscape mode. When I hop in my car, I dont want to take notes or check tasks, I want GPS, internet radio, Live Search...
I will dig deep into the registry and let you know what I find.
I want the same thing !!
Video out in the car, so I want to be able to start my Navigation from the landscape-menu.
Jochen
Change Landscape Menu
For the TV out menu that pops on screen after you plug in the video out cable, you can change the shortcuts in the registry.
HKLM\Software\HTC\TVOutPopUp\
There are four links in there, you can change them to any app installed on your phone. Only problem im having is changing the icons.
I have to bump this thread. There must be a customizer out there for the lanscape shortcuts! I just may go back to HTC Home if there is no way to put shortcuts in landscape!
I doubt this is exactly what you're looking for, but herg62123 is working on adding landscape tf3d to his project. See http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=447056
Not quite,
I have my TP docked in landscape in the car and I would like to open apps like NAV, or Picture Dial, or Kinoma Play in landscape.

I don't think there is going to be any easy way to customize those shortcuts. I'm pretty sure the landscape shortcuts are hard-coded in one of the binary manila files.
That sucks!
Well I guess HTC Home will do for now.
You could change the softkeys to point to two of the apps you want to run. Not the perfect solution but it's better than nothing...
I guess....
Maybe I can use 2nd today and set a button to it with AEbutton and have HTC HOME for landscape and TF3D for portrait.
Thoughts?

Sounds like a good solution. I haven't used either product but from what I've read on here that should work. good luck!
Glad to see this topic getting some attention finally
For anyone interested, try out this theme with a slimmed down version of tf3d in landscape. It may suit what you're wanting more.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=458036&highlight=landscape
Frankly, though, I didn't like it, and preferred to go back to my old theme. My main goal was having a landscape screen with a handful of a few apps I'm most likely to use, but in this theme you still have to scroll through your entire list of apps installed so, it really wasn't any kind of shortcut.
I'll keep sorting through all the manila files for a solution. Anyone with any reference docs or anything on creating themes or customizing tf3d would help as I've never dealt with it until now.

I've been searching around and noticed that indeed themes do change the "landschape shortcuts" but there doesn't seem to be a "general" program that's able to change them. I'm a little confused, because some reactions state it isn't possible to change these "shortcuts", saying they are hardcoded. Does this mean they're rooted so deep in the code that it's very hard to change them? Anyway I keep following this thread and hopefully some come up with a solution... Keep it up!

1) This has been discussed many times. TouchFlo is designed to work in landscape mode, if we force it it look like crap and nothing will fit.
2) aHome is not a build >.>
If we were going to get landscape TouchFlo the image on the phone tab is the least of our worries.
why not try to disable the keyboard-open listener in rosie, since that seems to be the only problem? rosie"s not made to work in landscape, so disabling the listener is much easier than actually making rosie work with a physical kb

I like this idea. I don't know anything about android coding but I think it might be possible with baksmali and smail...right?
I just really want to know, why are people so obsessed with having TouchFlo in landscape?! HTC never designed for Rosie to work in landscape so even if we could get it to rotate nothing would fit on the screen vertically...

Yeah I agree it would look absolutley horrible in landscape because that's NOT WHAT HTC intended
except from what i've read places it will be available in landscape mode eventually. as the lancaster has a landscape version that will come out....I could be wrong but i'll see if i can find the post
i think its not that they want it to work in landscape per say, but they want it to not forceclose or crash when they accidently go back to home while the keyboard is open. so i like the listener idea. hope it gets fixed in future hero rom

[Q] Manual screen rotation

Hi,
I have a Wits A81E tablet device which doesn't has G-Sensors, However, sometimes I do need to change the screen orientation from landscape to portrait and vice-versa. Does anybody familiar with any application which is able to do that?
P.S - I have tried using "RotateD" which works great but for some reason it installs 2 icons which would be inconvenient to use as I want to put the rotation icon on the dock bar.
Thanks
I also had a hell of a time locating a manual rotate sceen until a member from slatedroid helped me out
He informed me of adw launcher is best used with this rotate app, not clear on why but also never tested without it yet. I had sum trouble getting it to work at all until i had to change sum setting around. Now it works and now im happy to go portrait. The keyboard was one main reason as it was to large for even two thumb typing (but portrait is great for two thumbs)
I be right back with more info...
Ok its called rotating screen. Version 1.0. Not sure how he got his hands on it but a search result yeild nothing. So instead of uploading here, in fear, just pm me your email and ill send the instructions as i got.

[Q] Looking for HTC keyboard! (T9)

I've searched throughout XDA and can't seem to find a keyboard that I can install that brings back my beloved T9! Searching the market brings up little as well.
I just recently got CM6.1 + Kernel #43 (+ various other things) but before this i was still using MoDaCo's 1.5 ROM and although I love [almost] EVERYTHING about CM6 - I can't find a way to get the dial-pad keyboard with T9 for texting. I'm assuming it doesn't exist.
I just want to know what keyboard is good and simple and includes a T9 dialpad-style keyboard for portrait view. Preferably free... but not required.
Some keyboards I've heard of, but no verification of T9:
Smart Keyboard Pro
Swift Key
SWYPE

See my HTC IME thread Has compact QWERTY and T9 modes
THANKYOU!
This is fantastic!
EXACTLY what I was looking for. I can type extremely fast now (even in the car... shhhh) and at first, I was glad to have to T9 back but the keyboard itself looked a bit goofy. Then I saw the 'AOSP generic look'; it is perfect.
Thanks so much!
Follow up
Ok - I had to follow up on this again after using the keyboard for a few days. I don't think I did it much justice.
This keyboard is incredible. Not only is it simple looking (although you can apply other themes if you wish), the customizability (is that a word?) is insane. I spent forever just going through and playing with all the settings. Sometime it takes a while since you have to kill the keyboard and wait a second for it to come back in a typing app to test it, then go back to the settings menu, tweak, rinse & repeat.
I was thrilled to see that there are custom smiles because when I do use the smilies, which isn't often, I don't like them to have the 'dash' noses (ex. ) I prefer the simple but maybe I'm just really picky. Having the customizable smilies is awesome. You could even just replace them with anything you use often. One downside however is if you add too many, they'll just run off the screen and you'll not have access to them.
The custom swipes is a nice feature as well. When you swipe along the keyboard in one of four directions, you can assign custom functions. I have my 'swipe-up' set to 'Shift' so I can get capital letters quickly. I know it doesn't seem quicker than pressing the shift key but it is for me. It just feels more natural too when I'm texting or emailing. You can even set a swipe to change languages , I think this would make multi linqual people very satisfied. Type BOOM Tipo BOOM 类型 BOOM Тип.
There are many other settings including the organization of buttons, word prediction and spelling settings, and much more. You can even save and restore settings!
Best of all... it's FREE!
Edit: Thanks again!

So the wife can't live without her stock HTC keyboard. I'm going to flash AOSP's CM7 build for her, but I was wondering if anyone knows of a plain old stock HTC ime that will work with GB and specifically this ROM? Thanks.

[Q] Separate launchers/layouts for landscape and portrait?

Hello guys,
Now that BT is working on my Nook Color, I'll use it as a netbook pretty often.
That's why I might need to kiss my portrait-only homescreen goodbye.
Now my previous homescreen was portrait-only for a reason: I think it's just impossible to have a functional, constistent layout for both portrait AND landscape mode. Every launcher I've tried squeezes the same rows/columns-setting over landscape mode when switching, breaking almost every layout that might have made sense before.
I know that completely independent row-settings for both modes would probably cause more problems than it would solve, but what about independent layouts? I wouldn't mind setting up 2 homescreens if I knew it was worth it.
Is there any launcher that has this functionality?
Or is there any program like home switcher that can start different launchers depending on the screen rotation?
Sweeter Home lets you design your own layout.
And it uses separate layouts for Portrait and Landscape.
If only one of the two is defined, then it squashes one onto the other like regular launchers. Or you could lock it in to one orientation like I do.
Right now it's in public beta, but pretty much release-worthy. Only "downside" is updating it every few months when the nag popup appears - all settings transfer over, so nothing is lost.
Hm....I'm currently giving this another try. When I first looked at it, it left me in a state of confusion
Now I'm still confused, but I have started to create tablet theme that suits my needs. Let's see where this will end up.
This launcher has loads of potential despite its horrible, horrible interface. Seriously, this must be meant as a parody of bad interfaces. They really make you suffer before you finally end up with your own perfect theme. Per apera ad astra.
