I can help you and will do it through PM. As long as you do exactly what I say, you won't have any problems. When you respond, I need to know the version of HD2...T-Mobile US or European. It makes a difference. If it is the US version, it isn't nearly as stringent about the ROMs you choose.

Well, then you are not the notsohappy owner of a brick
Get it into bootloader and flash your carrier's official rom
Also, see that in WM6 you must use only ActiveSync 4.5 or higher
Ask if you need help, I will be here for couple of hours and there are others who know way more than me and also can help
ill try it sir!
currently downloading .exe from htc site. dude is that an installer? do i need to flash it using other programs or not? thanks!
oh btw! i just used activesync 4.2 i am also want to upgrade my cingular 8125 to wm6 xplore1.1.. just like yours.. what steps i shall do? can u help me?
Read the wiki on how to unbrick your phone
NOTE: And don't double post
sorry sir, i just dont know what to do
anyone please help me
Get the rgb boot loader screen on by holding down camera while you reset. Then connect via usb to the pc. You will see the word " usb " appear on the bottom of the screen on your phone.
Run the exe you downloaded from your manufacturer / carriers website and it will install the stock rom.
Phone will reboot when finished.
Hey presto.
Dont panic son

How should I choose a ROM?

I've very new to all this, having used a non-PDA/smartphone (SE637) for many years before purchasing a Tilt. While quite PC-literate, I find myself very intimidated with all this. I read as much as my mind allows before requiring large quantities of diet-coke -- then I need a nap to calm myself down from the soda before reading any more, or my head explodes.
I think that I need a new ROM, but I'm not sure why! Everywhere I read, that's what I'm told.
This community is very knowledgable and seems very helpful. As this appears to be more for developers than users like me, I'm hesitant to ask my question for fear of offending a developer, which isn't my intent. I'm looking for information that might assist me in choosing which ROM to use.
I suppose that I want the phone to run faster, be easier to use/see (I don't see as well as I did 50 years ago... ), and have the latest of whatever is the best at the moment, spending as little as possible in the process. A truly never-ending story...
Before you start flashing decide what's important to you. Are you looking for a certian look & feel? Is fuctionality more important or do you want spped/stability?
Then research the different Roms, most include feature lists & screen shots in the first few posts of the thread.
So what it really comes down to is a lot of reading.
Oh and be sure to HardSPL your device BEFORE doing anything.
Also, like kyphur said read and do the hardSPL first but for me I found it's most helpful just to try some. Download a few, flash them give it a whirl and see what you like. Once you try a few you'll find options and programs you love and will start looking for roms that have what you need and more importantly what you don't like. And if you never find anything you love then start cooking. There are a lot of great wikis here to guide you step by step.
Hope this helps.
Start with Wiki first. Once you hardspl, load your first rom. You will find how easy it is and start to flash more roms like crazy. Experiment, and then you will find what you like. After flashing your first rom, you will realize how much better your new rom is compare to the stock rom.
just start off by choosing a few roms...then read about it as the chef would describe their rom...see which one fits u most...then make sure u read teh wiki and faq before u actually start ur flashing...to make sure nothing goes wrong...and then if that doesnt fit u..try another rom..but all the roms here...are better than stock for sure
I knew this wasn't going to be easy... Rating system anyone? I suppose I'm also nervous about doing a first flash. What about CID and SIM unlocking?

HardSPL removes the Carrier lock (CID) from your phone. As for SIM unlocking, I haven't bothered yet because I don't travel anywhere that AT&T doesn't provide service.
Once you've done your share of reading, if you are still confused about what type of ROM you are looking for, check out whatever the latest Dutty release is at that point in time. Dutty's Kaiser ROMs are probably the most popular on XDA.
I use a [somewhat] clean ROM myself, with the bare minimum preloaded. This way I can install what I need, and not worry about wasted space for programs I don't use.

however, for Christ sake, please have hardspl installed.
Just pick one by reading the changelogs usually located in the first couple of posts.

Is there a Tilt-specific version (currently with ATT's latest released ROM) of HardSPL that avoids all the headaches I'm reading about?
I'm still not sure how this works, but if I were to go Dutty's, should I look for UC - from what I'm gathering, I could then get a minimum ROM version, choose what I want added, then somehow update that bare ROM to include my choices, keeping all my settings in the process? A hard reset, if needed, would restore the new UC basic ROM along with what I added -- do I have this right?

The version of HardSPL required is determined by what version SPL that is on your phone. If you reboot your phone in bootloader mode, you will see a version number for SPL. As long as you follow the directions for that version, you will be fine.

Thanks, NotATreoFan. I found info on what a bootloader is, and this is the info displayed:
KAIS1*0
SPL-1.93.0000
CPLD-8
What should my search criteria look like to find the HardSPL that I need to use?

and i think from your spl version you can pretty much guess which one you have to use

Thanks for the help, XtreMe_G. Just so I have this straight, out of the 4 files listed, I only need to download and run JumpSPL1.93-KAIS.zip and I'm done? The Tilt is now prepared to accept any appropriate ROM?

You need JumpSPL to get started, and then you need HardSPL to flash. 2 zip files total. Memorize the steps prior to starting, and do NOT skip any of them for any reason...
man...I thought I gave you advice yesterday on what to do. Literally, thousands of people have hardspl their roms just fine. Even a couple blonde girls in this forum have done it. It is not that hard and you shouldn't have too much trouble. Just follow the instructions and you will be just fine. After your first flash, you will move couple levels up in knowledge.

Will do ask you suggest. Just a thought... by doing this, will anything on my phone be affected (programs, settings, etc.)? I'm, obviously nervous about all this, and while I will follow your instructions with hardSPL, I'm not yet ready to flash a ROM.

putting new rom on stellar

hi guys i know u will say use the search button, but ive done all that and still lost.
i downloaded l26 rom and now do i just install it after ive got the sbl thingy or what has it tto be. its totally different to the exec way.i got a little bit scared when i was reading all about the problems.did it with the exec but the stellar is brandnew and worryed i might bugger it.
cheers in advance
Hi, i have the stellar from O2 as well and have sucessfully flashed many roms, first though you need to use JumpSpl to load HardSpl booter then flash the hardSpl system file which will prevent bricks, this is relative safe. Make sure you have the latest HardSpl for newer roms because some wont flash properly otherwise. I use Duttys new 1.6 rom which is fast and stable. First read the stickies
SSPL and all the techie stuff:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=396922
Use v3.56
Guide to kaiser and rom cooking etc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=369282
Then have fun flashing new roms.
right sooo i download jumpspl to stellar then hardspl, open and job done then i can drop on a rom like doing the exec.sorry for being so bloody thick.lol
wish we could have a thread like...
download this file ++++++++ to device then open then do x,y,z
instead of ...
download this link to here then open this here unplug phonethen plug back in and so it continues.making the instructions easy would i think stop all the worrying and asking from us so called noobs

So are you saying the Wiki is not easy to understand? Nothing about flashing the Kaiser is difficult. If you are having trouble understanding the steps, then I don't think you're ready for a phone such as the Kaiser.
i just get lost with it all iam a thick yorkshireman.i think its just me reading to much into it all.
It takes a good 3 hours or so to get to a point where you understand how to do it, but once you do it once all following flashes are DEAD easy.
The main issue I had was SIM unlocking my Orange TyTNII to get it so I could flash a new radio to it.
Once you have all the tools, it's really quite straightforward.
that is what i mean.its understanding it all, could be good to do a pdf so it can be printed out step by step.

dont think i was disrepecting anyone when i said anything, i wasnt you guys are very very good at what you do. ooooh l26 diamond splash screen
now a htc logo thats different to the o2 one i had now the tier install.
looking good at this point.
i think its very daunting for members if they havent done it before with all the posts.
thanks to all.
Problem solved. Thread closed.
I got the last word! Woot!

I've tried, searched, think I'm just stupid.

As the title says, I seriously think I am just being stupid. But I have just spent the last 5 hours searching, trying, and just about anything I can. But I can't seem to get anything to work.
Now on to my situation:
I just got a new Tilt, it is not my first. My first one was when it first came out for AT&T. So it was still the WM6Pro and I SIM CID and HardSPL'd it. So I do know how to do this stuff. Just now with this new one, it must be a newer one, because it came with WM6.1 on it.
Here is what I know I have on it. Bootloader shows this.
KAIS1*0
SPL-3.56.0000
CPLD-8
And this is when the AT&T logo pops up.
R 1.65.21.18
G 25.88.40.05H
D 3.57.00.00
Now the first thing I am trying to do is HardSPL it.
I swear I have tried everything.
First thing I tried was the simple, Kaiser SIM/CID Unlocker & Changer , I start with the Flash-HardSPL and get to the Bootloader saying USB with the Rom updater showing the status bar. Then with the phone still in bootloader, I get Error [260] : Connection, The Update Utility cannot connect to your PDA. and so on.
So I exit that. Go on to the next try.HardSPL v3.07-3.56
All of them end up as the same result as the first. But I will explain what V3.28 as I have heard and read that that is one of the best ones to use.
Get to bootloader, Computer monitor shows status bar, and phone shows status bar. And I wait for it to do anything and then maybe a minute or two it gives me an error. Error [262] : Update Error, The ROM Update Utility has encountered communication errors during the update process. and so on for recovery.
I've also tried to do the HTC Kaiser Hard-SPLv1 - CID Unlock & Flash any ROM to your device (4 free)
When I start this one up it gets me to my screen being completely white. and I can not continue after that without taking the battery out and starting the phone again.
I have also tried other things that I just cant remember right now, cause I have been trying to do this for so many hours, and downloaded so many different things. So if you can and may help me, anything and everything will be appreciated beyond the gratitude I can give. Once again, I do know what I am doing, but I do not know what I am doing ARGHHH! lol.
I think you need JumpSPL1.56-KAIS, then hardspl , Im assuming this because you didnt say you did this step in your post.

I tried that one, and for 2nd poster, I did try that also. Sorry for not listing. But I still appreciate the help guys.
I was also thinking I had to go back to 6.0 but I went 55 pages back on this section of the forum, and I still cant find it. I'm still looking, but it seems like a dead end to me. =/
there was a guy having this issue a while back, look in the white screen thread towards the end! I will see what I can find for you!
Right now I found a 6.0 ATT rom, so I got that to work, now I will try unlocking it, thank you guys, and thanks to this post (70+ pages back!) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=326933
Edit 1 :
Alright I got it back down to 6.0, but yet I still cant do anything with HardSPL, CID, or Security. If anyone has any solutions I will listen! Even if its bashing my head against anything! LOL! Sucks!
downgrade I don't believe is necessary

Nope, I didn't have to. My tilt came with 6.1. I had some problems, ended up switching to an XP laptop, was using Vista(prem. sp-whatever). It's too late here, but maybe tomorrow I can figure out what I did, but I think the main thing was using a windows XP pro machine - don't know if it needed to be pro, but that's what I had. Thereafter I've used the vista machine without problem. Good luck.

Meh, you need to use JumpSPL first. I've had this happen before, and JumpSPL cleared it right up for me.
I think Jocky has a few you can use. Check his HardSPL thread.
I first tried to use Vista, but then went back to my xp machine.
Edit :
I've tried to the JumpSPL but had major brain damage last night. trying it again with a fresh day. Will let you know.
Just got it, thanks guys. I apologize for just being completely brain dead. But I really am happy that you guys helped out. I finally got it flashed with the HardSPL It was really easy now. I just could not remember how to get to the file explorer. And the JumpSPL 1.56 worked. Thanks!
Yeah, well I can NEVER find anything via search here. Hell, to prove that point, I just typed "stupid" in the subject search line and found: NOTHING!!! I don't know what the deal is, but I've just pretty much given up searching this site.
Which leads to more reading than I'd typically care to do.

Root Question

Hello. I'm trying to learn how to root my htc magic wich i'm going to buy soon, i would like to know wich tecnic to use because i'm confused since they are totaly diferent.
is this one enought? and also will let me install other roms as all apps? hxxp://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=Magic_Rooting
Or i must also use this one: hxxp://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Sapphire_Hacking
I've been reading and since the pages lead to one another i'm asking. Thank you!
Just from briefly going through them, they seem the same but one of them gives a lot more detail and step by step instructions.
What's your SPL? And if you're on Cupcake 1.5, you should give this a try.
http://theunlockr.com/2009/08/29/how-to-root-the-htc-magic-in-one-click/
(They have an old recovery image on that site, make sure you get the latest)
It's ridiculously easy and doesn't require all the commands on the desktop. But to be honest, all the methods aren't that difficult.
ps. Make sure you flash the right recovery image, read read read! Pick the wrong one and possible brick! Check if you're on 32A / B and yeah. You'll probably see all this reading anyways
Oh and I just noticed that you're going to buy one soon.. If you're from rogers then
But yaeh, other than that the two methods you're looking at are similar. I would probably follow http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Sapphire_Hacking as it's step by step (When I was a noob I was so confusd with everything lol)
pm me if you need help and I'll do what I can
