Patriot were known to have problems with android devices, at least some time ago that was the case.
How about using the card that came with the device?
Does it work ok?
You shoudnt get cheap cards for high end devices...

I'm using a Patriot Class 10 32 GB SD card without problems. Running this card since the Sensation was released.
It's some patriots. not all.
Like he asked above me, does the one that came with it work> if that's the case it's your sd cards themselves.
Older cards had problems...
Try formating your card in windows before using it in your device
Using 32GB class 10 Lexar micro sdhc with no problem... Enjoying with the reading speed now!~
The Cheap wintech worked out of the box, at least for a couple days.... as I posted the Patriot 32gb class 10 card worked GREAT in windows prior to putting it in the phone.... and now the 3rd card is not accessable on a PC or in the phone....

Please try the card that came with your phone for a couple of days to determine if it is the cards or the device that has the problem...
If you have a patriot LX Card then try the following:

Try it anyway even if it not an LX card...
I've had 4 Sensations including my wifes and not one of them has ate either one of our 16gb class 10 cards.

Also make sure that you unmount your device in windows FIRST, then unclick Mass Storage on the phone whenever it's plugged in VIA USB. Also, ALWAYS umount your SD properly before removing it from the phone. If you already do those things then that's really unfortunate. I've used 3 different cards in this phione. Currently I'm using a 16 Gig class 4 that I got for like 20 16 bucks from Radioshack a few months back.

I've been using a 32gb class 10 wintech for months without any problems, first in my MT4G, then my G2X and now my sensation for over a week and a half. I also have one in my asus transformer and it's been fine. If it is the card I think wintech has a lifetime warranty

As a PC tech this is the first thing I tried
I am attempting to run the Check Flash utility on teh drive now, if I attempt to run either of teh write tests it fails.... the read test is running at a whopping 1.98MBs
I have tried teh SD in 2 seperate adaptors also (Just to rule out an adaptor that is write protecting the card in error)

If the card is working flawlessly in another phone, it's likely a phone issue. It sounds like you're doing all the right things to try and make it work, but HTC phones (particularly the mytouch series) can be very picky with SD. If it works in one and not in another, return the phone and get one that works better. If you're outside the return period, call your carrier or HTC for an exchange.
Just my two cents, of course.

Yep that is the plan after work, go to the local store to exchange the SD as DOA, then back to t-mobile to attempt to get a replacement phone... if t-mo gives too much grief then off to sprint to look at the EVO 3d as a replacement and dropping t-mo as a carrier

After a flashed ROM from CM7 back to bamf 1.6.3 REMIX, I was greeted by a READ-ONLY error with my SD Card.
Tapping on it to correct the issues doesn't work. I cannot even format it. So I am sad right now. I am going to have to drive all the way back to the Verizon store and hope they will exchange it out. I have only had the phone for 2.5 weeks.
this happened to me too, but "fixed" itself
I had the same problem when I flashed Black Hole and I thought it was a problem with the ROM. I restored to Liquid 1.3 and it went away, but then came back again on a different Liquid install. Not sure what causes it, but restoring and reflashing seems to fix it for me sometimes. Using a 32GB class 6 SD and flashing from ROM Manager and from within recovery.

SanDisk 32GB Class 4
Not using the "stock" card, switched to a Komputerbay class 6 as soon as I received the phone (I had been using the card without incident for several months in a Droid previously). This weird "sd card mounted as read only" issue only happened the couple times though and not sense. ???
Swapped out the card today at the VW store. They thought it was odd. Walked away with a free MicroSD card reader.

My SD card just crapped out on me. I thought it was my phone at first and I panicked, but the 16GB from my D2 works fine in it for now. I put the 32GB SD in my Transformer, my D2, and my Win7 PC and they all choke on it. Win7 locks up Explorer and the Transformer reboots when I insert it... I guess I'll have to go to Verizon too. I haven't even had this card for a week yet... :-(
BTW, Nice screen name. My brother likes to go by that name on the home caller id system. It's funny hearing it said out loud when he calls. "Call from: Turd Ferguson!" lol
Happened to me as well, first week of owning the phone, wasn't even rooted yet. Verizon swapped the card out for free under warranty, haven't had a problem since.
Add me to this list as well. Been using a 16 gig card from my incredible and haven't had an issue yet.
On the way home yesterday, I tried to play some music from my phone, and my phone said there was no SD card availalbe. I tried several things, and sure enough, my SD card is dead. I called Verizon, and they walked me through everything I just did. They declared it dead. They said they are out of stock, but would be happy to send me a 16Gb card. Eh...NO! They said the only thing they could do was to put me in touch with Sandisk to do an RMA. So, Verizon connects me to Sandisk. I explain to them that Verizon has already declaired the card dead, and I just need an RMA # to return it. It really is just that simple, but no we have to spend the next 30 mintues doing everything a 3rd time to prove the card is dead. Then Sandisk comes back and says the 32 GB card is out of stock, but that they can send me 2 16 GB cards instead. NO!!! I don't want 2 16 GB cards!!! Just send me the 32 GB card when you have one. They said ok, but it will be at least 3-4 weeks. After an hour and a half on the phone with Verizon then Sandisk, I have an RMA number. I am going to take a chance and go to my local Verizon to see if I can just swap it out there. Until then I am back to my 16 GB Sandisk card from my Touch Pro. This is the third Sandisk microSD card that has gone bad on me. I think I will be avoiding Sandisk from now on.
I'm not sure why this happens, but you can fix it by formatting the card.

I tried. The card is dead. I tried formatting using Win 7, the Thunderbolt, and also using a SD card format tool made by HP. All said it was either damage or could not be formatted. I have only had the phone 6 weeks, and I had no backup of my SD card. So backup your SD cards!!!

Yeah, clockworkmod says formating...done, but the phone and pc won't register the presence of a card. It's dead, but thanks for the suggestion.
Earlier today I got an error message saying that my micro SD card had been removed and I should unmount it first next time, but I hadn't actually removed it. After rebooting and re-inserting the card it still wouldn't recognize it until about the 3rd try. From there it worked fine for another 15 minutes before saying the card had been removed again. I got tired of fixing it so I let it be for a while... long story short it then went to an error message saying that the card was "empty" to now being completely unable to recognize it. I insert the card but there's no error at all; it just doesn't exist.
If I plug it into my laptop with a USB adapter, the card doesn't exist there either.
Did the phone just somehow destroy my micro SD card? I don't have another to test out and I can't restore stock from recovery because my backups were saved to the external card. -_-
Mine has destroyed 2 since Nov. Both were SanDisk. They are sending me a new one though, still sucks. If I had insurance, I would send this thing back.
The first was about 1.5 years old, so i just chocked that one up to being old, this one is two months old.

I've rebooted a million times and my wifi is still constantly downloading and my 4G connection isn't. Really weird that this all happened at the same time.
I called the warranty department and explained the problem. I think they have a lifetime warranty. You have to send the old one first and then it's 7-10 business days to get the new one. They pay for shipping, so I did it.
Not sure if it's the phone doing it or not. It just happened, I was listening to music and it happened.

I was listening to music as well, but the files were on internal storage. The was right before I couldn't get the volume to work and had to reboot. I had also just taken a picture (which saves to micro SD) by using the shortcut on the lockscreen, then hit the back button and realized that Pocket Planes was still running. Maybe this screwed up the card; I don't know.
Here's a thread about it. No real answers but maybe there's something in there.

not my gs3, but my sammy note 10.1 just killed my 32gb one.......
Funny how I avoided the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 4 for the lack of external storage, and yet this phone just kills my micro SD card anyway.
If i were u id start to get worried...my 16gb blue S3 killed My Sd card right B4 dying Off on me.....went To The Service Store nd they said I Need A new mb.....since no Insurance I Ended Up Sellng That Crap For what Its Screen Is worth! The Phone Was On 4.1.2.......im Abt To Give Up On all Sammy Products As each One of Them Ends up With An Issue.....never Had them With Htc......i Guess thats What to Expect when they throw 100M handsets At People Per yr.....
I bought a new 32GB microSD card in late April. After googling this issue, it appeared as though most SD card failures were SanDisk, so I bought a Kingston 32GB card instead.
In less than 3 months of use, I randomly received an error message today that the SD card was unexpectedly "removed," even though I did not remove it. After rebooting and re-inserting the card, the phone does not detect it. Neither does my USB microSD card reader; the card is essentially destroyed.
5 months and two SD cards ruined. I don't want to bother paying ~$5 to return the defective card to Kingston and wait another month for a replacement. This phone is clearly defective and incapable of handling external storage for more than a few months before destroying it.
Thanks, Samsung!
No solving solution yet>?
I am really amazed !!! So many smart guys are here at XDA and nobody found solution to this problem yet? I cant believe Samsung did not find a solution to this yet..... they live this problem in fog.
Hundreds maybe thousands of people have this problem with their Micro SD cards all over the new are many forums with this commune problem. I have search and did not find a solution nowhere.
I got my S3 about 2 years ago.....I purchase at that time a Kingston 64gb, class 10 card for it. Worked for few months and started whenever I try to view pictures from it to unmounts by its self. I restart the phone and work for few minutes then again disappear. I format it with laptop in FAT32 ....work for few days and then die all the way that could not format with the laptop anymore. So I went and exchange it with a new one, again this one I did from start Fat32 so wont be problems.....again die on me this second brand name card. SOOOO?????
What is the solution? Anyone?
I intended to upgrade now to S4 black edition since I don't like anything about S5 but I read on internet that S4 may have same problem...so I think I will wait for LG G3 because it sound very promising compare to Samsung crappy phones and their slow reaction to solve a problem.
Samsung, is been 2 years already since you ignore this problem and you did not find a solution to this problem !!! Wake up !
No wander your stock go lower and lower every day.
Maybe someone should take this up on TV.
I've had a 32 gig micro SD in my phone for a while now. I recently took my Siii out of my pocket only to find that it says the SD is unmounted. Odd, but not unheard of in the world of custom roms (paranoidkangdroid 2.something, rather recent though, 4.2.2 JB) So i do the sensible thing: Run into the storage menu, and lo and behold, its not registering. I pop it out and in, not registering. I reboot, and the damn thing still isn't registering. Then I take an old 2 GB micro SD and try it. This one worked just fine. 32 gig however does not. I move to my PC. Pop it in a micro to regular SD adapter, and the computer doesn't mount it. It does mount every other microSD of mine though. So can anyone tell me what the hell happened, and how I can recover my stuff?
Actually you can't, your sd card is corrupted and it's known to happen with this device that's why I always keep a weekly backup on my computer with everything. Especially the ones ordered from amazon the high capacity ones as far as I've seen.

Is the SD card damaged or can it just be reformatted with a card reader on a PC (fat I am assuming)?
I was about to start using an SD card to backup the internal storage. It doesn't sound like this is the best option and backing it to my PC would be better.
My set up to start was cleanrom 6.2 with envy kernel running fine for a week. I had my sd card disappear today twice. PNY class 10 32gb less than 2 weeks old from best buy. Popped it in my pc and it was recognized no problem. So I transferred my data, formatted in fat 32 popped it in phone, no problem. Transferred data back and was Ok for a few hours. Swapped my battery for a freshly charged one and upon boot, phone said the card was damaged, to reformat it. So, I pulled it out and popped it in my pc. Pc said card was damaged. I opened a command prompt and ran a chkdsk /f and it fixed an issue with the file system. I then proceeded to restore my cleanrom 6.2 backup. So far so good. I am thinking it had to do with an app, but I can't be sure. Upon googling this, it seems that some people have had an issue with external sd cards with this phone.

I'm not sure exactly what brand or model you have for your SD card or when you purchase it. However if its a SanDisk and it was purchased before December 2012 there's a chance that it was part of a bad batch. I had the exact same problem with mine I have a UHs 1 32 gig SanDisk. I read somewhere on the internet that there is a known problem with SD cards from that company built before December. When I spoke with SanDisk they confirm that and said the newer batches have been corrected. Long story short if you're using an ultra high speed or for that matter any card by SanDisk call up there customer service explain to them the problem and they will send you a brand new one. The entire process took about a week for me.

Did you try my suggestion? Ive recovered numerous files using a linux live cd and/or a mac. Try putting the card in a network printer or mem card reader if linux and mac os isnt possible. Ive recovered my files, including those from a 16gb micro sd card, using those methods in the past.
Okay, so it works
Alright alright, i didn't expect this to get many responses. Anyway, it now works. It appeared to be fried, my mac, PC, ubuntu machine, and OG droid wouldn't even recognize that a card was inserted. Nor would my GS3. My solution? after turning it on and off a few times, I just left the card in it and set it aside for an hour. Lo and behold, it now works. The SD now works. It was fried, and is now unfried. I don't know how, I just guess I am lucky. Or aliens. Either way, I am happy. Not gonna jeep anything more than music on it though... Ah well, thanks for the help XDA!
If I were you, I'd back up everything on that card to my pc, and exchange it if under warranty. If not, chuck it, and purchase another card.
Not worth taking the risk again.
Consider yourself lucky so far

So I have had my sd card corrupt a few times now, so far this has seemed to help me recover my data.
http://www.cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestDisk_Download
The problem could be a sandisk SD card:
(Outside link) crave.cnet.co.uk/mobiles/samsung-galaxy-s3-fault-is-caused-by-sandisk-memory-cards-50010684/
I read about the SD problems after just getting the S3.. decided to get a different brand card from the store.
Don't buy this SD. I don't know why, Sandisk usually make good SD cards, but i'm at my 3rd and i still have the same issues. I decided to buy a Samsung 64GB SDXC UHS-1 Pro and i've had none of the issues. This card was about 20$ more but its was well worth it. I bought my 64GB at bestbuy, after 2 weeks i exchanged it for another, then after another 3 weeks i had to RMA because bestbuy didn't honor the rest of the warranty, i got the new one back and again the same issues.
The issues are:
- the sd would not be recognized by the system once every 2-3 reboots
- it would put my status to custom once i transfered music onto it
- it would eject for no reason (did that twice)
- it heats up really quickly when i have stuff on the SD like pictures or files
- it would freeze when opening music app, i had to reboot my phone to fix
I've seen many others with issues with Samdisk 64GB cards, so this thread is just to tell you that you are not alone, and buy Samsung Instead.
Weird, I have had the same Sandisk 64GB that I bought a year ago for my S2, used in S3, and in use now with my S4. I liked it so much I bought one for my wife's phone recently and we have no issues with them.

I don't know about you, but double twist is basically PITA. The double twist always messed up my alarm sound (usually song), that was stored on the external drive. Initially it worked fine, but some update broke lots of things in the app, and this happened when I was using Galaxy S3. I don't use that app anymore and I have given that app 2 stars. Also, if you think that those 2 apps are causing the issue, then it might be an issue with those apps and not the sd card. Though, I never experienced issue about 'system not recognizing the sd card'.

That would be true IF the samsung SD card would react the same way, but it doesn't. If you check all my post in the past 2 months, i have done A LOT of research and troubleshooting before making those claims. I have isolated the issue to the SD card, and the only way i could confirm my claims would be to buy a new one, which i did and it did confirm my troubleshooting was correct

No problems with my 64 GB SanDisk ultra. There are some issues with some kernels if it's not formatted correctly.

My phone is rooted but otherwise stock. Sd card is formatted fat32 in last phone and I regularly move it between phones. I don't doubt that some people have bad cards, but I don't think the phone is doing it, but it is hard to tell with the limited data.
I still suspect counterfeit cards in most cases.

I would not say impossible, but highly unlikely. There are going to be bad cards made - no doubt about it. But the volume of bogus ones is huge, and I still believe that is the basis of most problems.

Device status says Official, no padlock, and running TWRP with GoldenEye ROM. Same results when I ran stock too without custom recovery.
I have the same one and its working great for me! I was having a bit of trouble with the phone always reading it on exFat, but as soon as i reformatted to Fat32, my Galaxy S4 has had no issues since then! With Foldermount allowing me to store Play Store apps onto my SD card, it lets me use it for everything to make up for the poor 9GB of useable storage on the internal SD.

I got the Sandisk SDXC 64gb class 10 Ultra card from Amazon over 6 months ago and it works great for me. I have a bunch of movies and music, record HD video and all my pics to it - no issues at all.
Maybe the new ones have issue, but they all are not bad.

Official. I'm on Stock. Using the 64GB micro SDXC Class 10 UHS-1 card. Formatted w/ exFAT (because I have larger than 4GB files on my card).
Same as the previous 2 posters. No issues here with the Sandisk. I did buy the Sandisk micro SDXC card that is marketed directly for phones. I know Sandisk makes another one (same specs) but the package says it's for cameras.
Not sure if it really matters, but I opted for the one for phones just in case it was "built" differently.
For reference (model numbers)
Sandisk Camera micro SDXC card: SDSDQUI-064G
Sandisk Phone/Mobile micro SDXC card: SDSDQUA-064G
I have sandisk 64g and has worked with g3 and g4..for a year now...must use fat32 period.

Both me and a buddy had issues with Sandisk 64gb cards from Amazon. We both returned and got the 64gb Samsung card instead. Much much better.

I have this card and every time I reboot my S4 tells me my microSD is corrupt. I proceed to reboot again and everything is fine. It is rather annoying. I'm rooted, stock recovery and ROM. SD card is formatted exFat.
I'm outside of return to my electronics store so looks like i'm stuck with it and forced to reboot twice every time I need to reboot
Hey all,
I purchased this 32 GB Class 10 Micro SD card for my AT&T Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket and well I can't seem to get it to work properly, I can get it formatted and the phone reads it but for the most part anything such as my music that I put on it wont play from the card. only a few of the songs will actually play and everything else just tries to play but it just makes like a screeching noise for like 2 seconds and then either stops or goes to the next song. I have tried the standard music player and also Double Twist as well as Rocket Player and got nothing except for a few on the songs and yet there all mp3's so what could my problem be or is it just a crap card as it's not to my knowledge a name brand. Also I did take some video with the camera and then tried to play it back and it failed said can't play so I am assuming it recorded and saved directly to the Micro SD card. I have formatted it in the phone with android also on my windows PC and then even with Mini tools partition wizard and am just struggling with the fact that it doesn't work or barely works and will play like 5 of the songs but nothing else. Here is a link to what I bought
edit: Guess I can't post outside links yet so it's labeled

Thanks,
Most likely a bad card. There is so much bad memory out there you can't even be sure what you get if you buy at a name brand store.

Are you able to play those songs if you put the microSD card in a PC? Are you able to open the videos from the PC? If not I'd say it's a card issue.
I have a Lexar 32GB microSD and never had an issue... I save my pictures, music, recovery backups on it and never had a problem reading them.
SD Card issues
Just after purchasing my phone in November 11, I have gone through a few cards. One junk card, one Kingston card, and one Lexar card. I've also tried old smaller cards that I had left over at home and had been using successfully for years. All of them worked fine until they met my Skyrocket. Without fail, shortly after making a few reads or writes (pictures, reading music), I get an SD card error and it won't do a thing. Works fine in any other device. I decided that it was a short or something in my phone and gave up - space isn't really an issue for me anyway. I only became interested again this morning after flashing CM 10.1 and trying again on a lark. I'm going to try it for a while to see if it may have been a GB issue. Anybody else heard of this? I figured I just had a single bad unit.

Hey,
No only a couple of the songs work on the PC from the card which are the sames ones that play on the phone otherwise all the other ones don't work. Anyways The guy who I bought it from just said it is probably a bad card but told me to keep it and he gave me a full refund and told me to not deal with the hassle of returning and paying to return it etc as he didn't have anymore in stock. So I just find it weird that like 3 or 4 of the songs will play like normal but nothing else will.
Low level format the card, stick it in ur phone and format it, then copy 8-10 songs on there and try to play them.
If that doesn't work like others said u probably bought a melon

Just wanted to say I've been frustrated with this exact problem. I thought it was my phone's fault, but realized its the micro sd. So far I've tried two Samsung branded 32GB class 10 cards and they are both causing this issue, even in a second Skyrocket phone.
I'm moving on to a different brand with high hopes.

I only use class 10 Samsung sd cards and they are great. You probably got fakes.

One was from Newegg and the other from Bestbuy, certainly hope they weren't fake from those stores.
Ordered an Adata and will see how that is.

I had similar issues. I recently went through several sandisk cards, 16 and 32 gb. Both purchase from different walmart stores. I knew it wasn't an issue with my phone because my old card worked fine. Went to bestbuy and bought a PNY 32gb and works flawlessly. Sandisk seems to have issues with galaxy phones in my experience.
I need some input. The Adata card is giving me the same issues(failing to backup in twrp, camera glitches) It's a 32GB class 10 sdhc UHS-I. I wonder if its the speed of the card or the type. I'll attach a pic of the card.
What could be causing the problem? Is it the UHS-1 spec?
Edit: After some digging, looks like it's due to the UHS. great...
I need advice
I am going to buy new SD card, 32GB, But I don't know which one should I buy? I need your advice, thank you
