I am getting my first WP7 phone next week and I was wondering how to install a .crt file in WP7. I was unable to find any information in the forums for WP7. In Windows mobile 6.5 I installed the .crt file on the phone with activesynch, ran the file through File Exp and it installed the certificate. Does anyone know how this is done with WP7? Thanks

You just email the Cert to yourself & than open the email & download the cert on your WP7 device. Once downloaded, click the shield in the e-mail to install it. I guess the main question would be why though as at current, I think the Chevron Unlocker is the only tool that required installing a custom cert.

EDIT: Thanks to Cendaryn we also have the required security certificate - the easiest way (thanks to Talys) to install the cert and unlock your WP7 is to do as follows:
1. Unzip file, and attach chevronwp7.cer (see below for file) to an e-mail to yourself
2. Open email in WP7
3. Tap attachment once, turns it into a shield, tap it again, goes to install certificate screen with white letters on black screen
4. Click install at the bottom

I am not sure exactly what the certificate does... But my company requires that it be installed in order for us to rec emails through Microsoft exchange. I think it has something to do with password protection on the phone and also to allow the emails to synch. I guess i will have to setup my personal email first download the file install then setup my work email.. Thanks for the quick reply!!!

Ah okay, never thought about that. Well I can tell you a cert is a form of authentication. In this case, your companies email service must require the cert to prove that is allowed access. It's like a drivers license/ID/Social Security card/etc., but for applications/servers/service/etc. My main reason for asking was that in WM, we had to unsign the DLL/MUI/EXE's to edit them & than resign them & have the cert we used to resign them installed on the device so it'd recognize the DLL/MUI/EXE. This is how we changed the topbar icons for example. If you didn't sign the file, WM wouldn't load it or allow it to run.

Hi all,
I tried almost everything but I cannot connect to my exchange account. With our IT we enabled OMA, OWA also, I installed the self-signed certificate on my Touch Pro, tried with and without SSL, erased the account on the device to create it from scratch, read all the posts, googled and tried what suggested but still get connecting for a while and then Error Synchronizing (built-in e-mail client), when I switch to active sync and view status I get "Synchronization couldn't be completed. Try again later" and Support code says 0x80072F17 (certificate related). WHen I set up my iPhone with the account details I sync without problem all the mails with subfolders...Any help?

i had the same problem and later i realized that there two different reasons for this problem. but before i can help i need to know two things. 1st what rom and build version r u using? 2nd what version of htcalbum r u using?
Thank you for the quick rsponse, I hope you can help me. The ROM version is 1.90.401.1 WWE, Radio 1.02.25.19, as for album I have the version that was originally distributed (I could find any version number), BTW it is very slow on loading.

Make sure you have the correct root certificate as well. Im using a free ssl cert from Startcom and I have to have both the Intermediate and Root certs installed for it to work because by default the root cert isnt there. You can check this out by Start > Settings > Certificates.
Ren13B I have just intermediate cert installed, the one that OWA is using, self-signed. Can you tell me more about how to make it appear in ROOT tab?

The fastest way I've seen to do this is search for a Microsoft tool called "SSLChainSaver". There are instructions on the site for using it, but the short form is:
Code:
sslchainsaver.exe [I]<exchange hostname>[/I]
This creates a directory with the certificates, and also creates two XML files containing the full certificate chain, one for Windows Mobile 5, and one for WinMo 6.
Find the XML file you want (<exch. server>.wm6.xml, probably), copy to _setup.xml, and make it a .CAB file:
Code:
copy exchserver.wm6.xml _setup.xml
makecab certs.cab _setup.xml
This creates a .CAB file you can download directly to your phone containing all the necessary SSL certificates for your server.
Hope that helps...
It seems there is something wrong with our OWA certificate, I found out that issuer has to be same as subject which is not, so even the tool work smoothly it could not get the root cert...Strange that iPhone has no problem with that but WM6 does:-(
can anybody help me how to install some certificates? I need one to connect to the wifi in my school.. I tried make a cab but it do not works..
Copy the certificate file to your device, open file explorer and click the file You should see message "Certificates were installed"... I think that's all, at least that's how it worked for me
It does not work for me .. I have tried it.. It says it can not open such file
Try using .cer files. If your school doesn't have those, try googling some converter from other formats to .cer
thank you a lot..it worked...don´t you know how should I use this certificate when I´am logging in to the wifi in school?
just turn on Wi-Fi and follow the instructions on screen. You will just have to choose correct encryption type, input username and password and then it will automatically use installed certificate to ensure that the connection is secure.

Hi, why do you think your own certificate will help?
GNAngent.exe is part of Google Navigator, maybe uninstalling (or reinstalling) it will solve your problems as well.
Anyway, here is a mention how to install self-signed cert: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=281723
You can also try DisableCertChk utility.
hi , AS ABOVE.
i've tried to read all the possible solution and tried it out already
change the host file , try changing the regedit method , tried using device manager to troubleshoot the device driver.
it just cant work. im doing the correct steps . i even flash wp7 again to double confirm my steps.

HELP ??
The instructions you can find here are all pretty clear and they work.
I went according to this one:
1. Install WP7 sdk Windows Phone Developer Tools;
2. Install zune;
3. Make partneship with zune and phone;
4. Attach the ChevronWP7.cer(you found in the toolkit) to your email and send the email to your email itself (On PC);
5. Login to your email account (On Phone), Open the email, Select attachment and install the cert;
6. Connect your phone to pc and make sure zune is running in background;
7. Run the unlocker (ChevronWP7.exe) and click unlock button(Make sure your phone date is set correctly)
(you need to close skype and disable network adapter.. hamachi.. wireless.. Dropbox.. etc)
6. Install toms .xap installer;
7. Deploy Connection Setup.xap, Touch Xplorer.xap and XBMODDeployer.xap (Install it on the phone and run XBMODDeployer.xap);
8. Copy the .provxml from the ringtons folder to the windows folder (on the phone using touch explorer app);
9. Run connection setup to install the .provxml;1. Install WP7 sdk Windows Phone Developer Tools;
2. Install zune;
3. Make partneship with zune and phone;
4. Attach the ChevronWP7.cer(you found in the toolkit) to your email and send the email to your email itself (On PC);
5. Login to your email account (On Phone), Open the email, Select attachment and install the cert;

8. Copy the .provxml from the ringtons folder to the windows folder (on the phone using touch explorer app);
9. Run connection setup to install the .provxml;
You are probably just missing a step
you must be doing something wrong ..cause as i just stated above all the tool and unlocker still works as it did 3 months ago...check some of tutorials in the forum...

hi , i connected my phone using wpconnect , im still having same problem
Check your hosts file.
If it contains following entry, Chevron will not work:
127.0.0.1 developerservices.windowsphone.com
I cant remember where I read this but it helped.After completing the above instructions,Open task manager(Ctrl ,Alt &del).Go to processes ,select zune launcher and click on end process.reboot pc ,connect phone , wait for it to sync wit zune ,if it doesnt ,run zune then run chevron and you are done.I did this for 3 phones and it worked.hope this helps.good luck.
another confirmation that the unlocker still works for me without any problems at all...i dont nor havent deleted any host files or changed any setting at all within the machine. I have had one or two problems with it not working, the first problem i ever had when i first started using the unlocker was the registry key not being edited correctly... and for the second time it didnt work, all i did was unplug device and let re sync...tick, tick BOOM unlocked!! Besides those couple times it has always worked for me...Bought a new machine today and installed tools, then zune software and created account " naming phone " and installed chevron, opened and unlocked....if you have sdk tools installed and have the unlocker installed, with zune software completely set up and phone communicating with zune, not as guest...and you will change the relationship from guest to " whatever you name your phone " during setup... haven a complete and main relationship with phone " not guest " is one of the most important parts with zune!!! The other most important part is making sure the registry is edited and should look like this...
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsPhone\ProxyPorts]
“DeviceReg”=dword:000069C5
the window phone developer tools will edit reg for you...i have learned that if you relock the phone it sometime can takes a little while for things to click and be able to unlock again!!
So there is nothing wrong with any of the tools or unlocker, so if your having problems tripple check your zune settings to accomplish a non guest relationship, and check your reg. edit.....most problems i have seen and heard about are ppl and their zune!

You've said it's "not working". Why isn't it working? Where are you getting up to? Are you getting an error message?
Have you deleted all entries of Developerservices... from your host file?
make sure you have corrected date and time
and if possible use SIM Card with "big operator" in your country (well known operator)

Hi All,
I have been using my 2nd gen Samsung Win Phone for a while (Omnia W - GT-I8350 to be more specific). I have recently interop unlock it.
The main account on the phone is a US Live account. So the app store tied to the US version. I however now living in the UK and wanted to install O2 Priority Moments. The app is only on UK store and when I tab the link on O2 website from my phone, it doesn't allow me to install it due to country restrictions.
I managed to found the app page on my PC, and downloaded the XAP for installing via SD card. But my phone doesn't have a card slot. I tried to sideload the XAP using Deploy software. But it cannot be read by the application.
Also, I thought normal XAP should have no difference to a ZIP file. But those I downloaded from Windows Phone website just cannot be open with 7zip or RAR software. The same happens to another free app that I wanted to install, but only available in the Hong Kong store.
Can anyone shed me some light on sorting it out?
Many thanks,
Jack

As far as I know, XAP files cannot be opened and edited like, for example, apk files in Android, because Windows Phone isn't open source. Therefore, all the apps are protected from editing (you actually CAN open them in WinRAR!).
If you have a proper XAP file of the app, you should be able to sideload it with Tom XAP Installer for example. But I'm fairly new to the world of Windows Phone, so you might wanne wait for someone else's answer. In the meantime, take a look here, it seems to be possible to change your region and therefore download the app the official way: http://windowsphone.uservoice.com/f...-allow-changing-your-windows-id-live-location

I think it's because now apps from Marketplace are encrypted, so maybe only Marketplace app can decrypt and install them.
If you're phone is unlocked, you can make an archive file for each installed app and then save it into your pc (if you search in this forum you should find some threads about this item).
Winrar or similar software "don't know" they need to decrypt the xap file.

Dear forum users,
I had a daunting task to install a certificate manually to the phone. The Samsung is running Android 8.0 and the certificate is a SSL cert for a server with extension .cer.
I have managed to download the certificate from a secure website to the phone and now it sits in Files folder. Every time I try to install the certificate, the phone always says "no certificate to install".
Is there a limitation that what kind of certificate can be installed to different version of Android?
Thanks.

How are you trying to install it? What method/process are you using?
You should be able to go your device's system settings>security settings, in your security settings you should have some kind of option that allows you to change security options, in there somewhere, you should find an option that allows install certificates.
