Hi All,
I have been using my 2nd gen Samsung Win Phone for a while (Omnia W - GT-I8350 to be more specific). I have recently interop unlock it.
The main account on the phone is a US Live account. So the app store tied to the US version. I however now living in the UK and wanted to install O2 Priority Moments. The app is only on UK store and when I tab the link on O2 website from my phone, it doesn't allow me to install it due to country restrictions.
I managed to found the app page on my PC, and downloaded the XAP for installing via SD card. But my phone doesn't have a card slot. I tried to sideload the XAP using Deploy software. But it cannot be read by the application.
Also, I thought normal XAP should have no difference to a ZIP file. But those I downloaded from Windows Phone website just cannot be open with 7zip or RAR software. The same happens to another free app that I wanted to install, but only available in the Hong Kong store.
Can anyone shed me some light on sorting it out?
Many thanks,
Jack

As far as I know, XAP files cannot be opened and edited like, for example, apk files in Android, because Windows Phone isn't open source. Therefore, all the apps are protected from editing (you actually CAN open them in WinRAR!).
If you have a proper XAP file of the app, you should be able to sideload it with Tom XAP Installer for example. But I'm fairly new to the world of Windows Phone, so you might wanne wait for someone else's answer. In the meantime, take a look here, it seems to be possible to change your region and therefore download the app the official way: http://windowsphone.uservoice.com/f...-allow-changing-your-windows-id-live-location

I have no problem in deploying other homebrew apps and/or "modified" apps in to my phone. Only those XAP downloaded from the windows phone website, those supposed to be installed via SD card, does work for me.
Anyone know how to make it work?
Thanks,
Jack

I think it's because now apps from Marketplace are encrypted, so maybe only Marketplace app can decrypt and install them.
If you're phone is unlocked, you can make an archive file for each installed app and then save it into your pc (if you search in this forum you should find some threads about this item).
Winrar or similar software "don't know" they need to decrypt the xap file.
"XAP downloaded from the windows phone website, those supposed to be installed via SD card"

Dear People,
How do I install Dropbox on Andriod without WiFi? Can't I just upload it on the USB ? Please help I am searching like 3 hours for now and I want free games Non-Market . Hope you guys can help me
Greets,
Spooky.
Bump... I am still searching please post if its possible or not.
Is there some reason you can't download it from the market over the cell signal? I downloaded it from the market while not on WiFi, and it installs, registers, and downloads files just fine.
Also, if you are connecting via USB cable, why don't you just mount your SD card, and transfer the applications to the phone that way?
Unless someone has a stand-alone Dropbox apk, I don't know if you can install it over USB.
interested
i am having the same trouble. will try your other idea

Okay, if you have no internet access from your phone, then I'm not sure if Dropbox will help you out any. It is just a tool to share and download files on the internet.
If you can find the apps/games you want in ".apk" form, you can download the files to your computer, and use your computer to install them to your phone. The generic way to install apk's to any Android phone is with adb. It's part of the Android SDK. Do a Google search for using adb to install apk's, and you'll find plenty of instructions.
Something I ran across on the internet that you could also use is HTC Sync. It's supposedly a program that works with all HTC phones and has an "Install" function. I have a Samsung phone and have no idea how this software works or exactly what it does. I'm sure if you do a search for it, you will be able to find plenty of instructions.
Oh yeah, no matter which way you install these apps, you will need to go into Settings -> Applications and enable "Unknown Sources." This will allow you to install non-market applications (which is what you're doing).
Hi
First of all you need to be connected to Internet ...
From there you can type in this from inside your phone https://www.dropbox.com/android
Or you could go directly to Market https://market.android.com/details?id=com.dropbox.android&hl=da
If you need a new account you can use this invitation Dropbox.
Hi,
I am new to this forum and a total beginner. Can anyone tell me how can I install apps using .xap files on a developer-unlocked WP7 device?
If you downloaded the Dev tools, you have an app called "Application Deployment" there ya go.. Or hunt down a XAP installer, there is a ton on this site.
Don't forget to hit thanks !
Also, when deploying make sure the device is actually plugged in, had a chance to connect, and that the screen is on and the home screen active (not locked).
I've just bought a second-hand Samsung Focus (SGH-i917) from a local cellphone vendor for developement purpose. From settings, about, it reports software version Windows Phone 7.5 and OS version 7.10.7720.68. Is there a way to find out if my phone is unlocked or not. If unlocked, how can I load XAP onto the phone? If locked, how can I unlock it. BTW, I do not pirate, just for developement.
Hi
You can see if your phone is locked or not trying to deploy a XAP file on it.
You can do this using a deployer like Tom XAP Installer.
You also need the Windows Phone SDK (download it HERE) which is necessary to develop applications and deploy them.
After installed, download a XAP file (or use your own), connect your phone and run WPConnect (C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SDKs\Windows Phone\v7.1\Tools\WPConnect) and open Tom XAP Installer, select Add XAP files and click on Install. If the installations finishes correctly, your phone is unlocked, otherwise you have to unlock it.
You have two ways to do this:
- Official jailbreak by Microsoft (HERE), It costs 9$ and allows you to deploy 10 applications. You won't lose warranty.
- Downgrade to the 7004 firmware (VIDEO) and unlock it using ChevronWP7 (Download HERE), then before updating to Mango you have to send a file (unlock.xml) to your phone (Tutorial Here), otherwise you'll lose the unlock.
Thanks, I'll try your instructions.
@AshleyT: A couple of minor corrections:
The official ChevronWP7 Labs unlock is not by MS, though they permit it (thus "official"). They don't get the $9, though you do have to use a Live ID.
There is another official way to dev-unlock your phone: get a Marketplace developer ("AppHub") account. http://create.msdn.com ($99, goes to MS) or http://dreamspark.com (requires student email address, free). For these methods, use the Windows Phone Developer Registration tool that comes with the SDK download.
The reason I point out the apphub account option is that, if the OP wants to develop apps, he or she may want to publish them to the marketplace at some point. You can't do that with a ChevronWP7 unlock, official or otherwise, but you can with AppHub.
Chevron can check whether your phone is unlocked, or u can try to install one simple xap application to test this.
It seems that my phone is locked.
First I tried Tom XAP installer, it said:
-Please Make sure your phone was unlocked!
-Please Make sure you connected device to PC and Zune launched
Try again?
Then I tried Application deployment from Windows Phone SDK 7.1, which said
Error - Failed to connect to device as it is pin locked.
I am sure my phone is connected to PC as I can see music/video/picture in Zune.
Could someone explain to me what is "pin locked"?

To remove the error of pin locked u just need to swipe up the lockscreen and try to deploy the xap file.. it will be successfully deployed..
I countered the same problem earlier..
Hope this helps
i have successfully unlocked my Dell Venue Pro and i have 5 applications installed. Now when i do Hard reset I'd be able to install only 5 or 10 applications?¨
PS Sorry for my english
Hi there, I saw these posts about developer unlock for windows phone 7. I tried to do every single one of them, but somehow somewhere I always get a mistake... I want to root or however you call it my windows phone 7.5[mango] and i am a noob when it gets about that.... I currently possess HTC Trophy, and i want to do this because i want to be able to send and transfer files via bluetooth. I also tried to install xap files via ie on wp but it say file type not supported... Anyone know a way i can install .xap file on my windows phone 7 that it's easy?
No such thing as a quick developer unlock for HTC phones.
This is the best guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1271963
Nope
Nope, i need a tutorial on how to install .xap files, and on a link you gave me it says to install .xap file with xap file deployment tool... how the heck am i gonna do that when i can't open xap files since it's developer locked???
3. Download this attachment to your PC: HTC Interop Unlock.xap
4. Connect your device to a PC running Zune and install the xap-file using any xap-deploy-tool. You don't need to start the app. If it starts automatically, you can close it right away.
Currently, the only ways to dev-unlock a Trophy (or other HTC phone) are to get an AppHub account or use a custom ROM.
hmmmmh...
ummm, how do i do that? how do i use or set custom ROM? is there a guide or something... ?
For more device specific instructions and custom ROMs, go to the forums for your device. HTC Trophy, you said
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=809
In order to load a custom ROM, you need to downgrade and change the HSPL/RSPL. For the Trophy see here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1503298
As far as deploying XAPs to your phone from your computer, many options exist, but you have to be at least developer unlocked, and the only way is through AppHub right now. Thus, maybe flashing a custom ROM would be a better way to go.
Good Luck! and hit Thanks if you found this helpful.

The Solution my friend is to buy them from the market place
This is the only solution, firstly because this is XDA developers and piracy isn't tolerated
Secondly, MS encrypted the marketplace which stopped the use of these programs for any legitimate or illegitimate reasons. So, Buy them.
If you have brought them an you are wanting a backup of the XAP then this is still possible, XAPs can be made from installed apps.
decrypted official programs from marketplace

yup, this should let you backup installed apps as XAPs allowing you to install them In one go later, it also seems to backup the data sections of these apps too.
Ive yet to play with this but it seems like a good idea, I was helping a chap months ago with something like this but was PC based. Its very handy but you have to wonder if it wouldn't be better just to make a complete zune backup...
Thanks for your reply, Program Manager, all backups save score games ? ^^
If yes you are the best !
