[Q] Inspire coredroid support ad hoc? - HTC Inspire 4G

I have a HTC Hero rooted and is running Wireless Tether. The signal can be picked up by my laptop and can be used without a problem - this means the Wireless Tether application is running without a problem.
However my Inspire cannot pick up the signal. Does anyone know why? The Inspire is rooted and has CoreDroid7 (this should be irrelevant) and can pick up all other wireless signals around the house/in the neighborhood. When I manually add it, it says "not in range, remembered"
is it a hardware limitation where the hero is broadcasting at a b/g/n spectrum?
thanks in advance
edit1: the hero is emitting wireless b signal, so the inspire should pick it up
edit2: i ran wireless tether on the inspire just for kicks and the hero picked it up (that means i know how to configure the app - which is pretty brainless... just pick default options and change the SSID)
edit3: an iphone 4 was able to pick up the hero's SSID and connect. this seem to be more of an inspire problem
last edit: i installed barnacle wifi tether on the hero and face the same problem. therefore its safe to conclude my inspire is issue. my inspire is coredroid7 with:
s-off
hboot 0.85.0019
micop-0438
radio 26.09.04.11_m2
emmc boot
even if you dont have an idea whats going on, can someone who has two andriod phones do a quick test?

what are other good radios/ril for coredroid7 other than the 3 listed under the coredroid thread? i checked the radio thread and there was no official mention of anything (except user comment on the radio that i am using works).
is it my problem bad radio/ril?
Edit: most likely not bad radio

Someone answered on the hero forum that hero only broadcasts ad hoc. So the question is does the ROM I use support ad hoc?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App

Installed WiFi manager... The ssid showed up and said Android does not support ad hoc or ibss. Is there a solution around this problem?

I had the same problem a month or so ago where my Inspire wouldn't pick up ad-hoc networks. Did some googling and found a Desire HD thread with people wanting ad-hoc support which lead me to this link.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866676
Flash that. (The ADHOC.v2.zip) and then reboot and you should have ad-hoc support.
I haven't used this in over a month but ad-hoc networks would show up with an * next to the network name.

worked like a charm. thanks!

[Q] Use your phone for 3g?

Could you teather your phone to the Transformer so as to get 3g service?
Would you need the keyboard to do this, since it has a full size USB?

I currently have a iPad 2 WiFi, it can tether just fine with my rooted EVO. I suppose the same will happen with the Transformer (still waiting for it).
I do not think the keyboard is needed... why anyway? I mean tether via WiFi

you can definitely tether you phone to your transformer...seems like bluetooth tether seems to be the best bet right now.
Get em paired and let the data flow!

Without having it right here in front of me....
First, your phone needs to have the wireless tether app.which means you most likly will need to be rooted. Go to the settings and switch it to the bluetooth tether rather than the wireless one. Make the device discoverable. Then go on your transformer and go to wireless & networks>bluetooth settings> check turn on bluetooth then scan for devices. It should find you phone, so select it. Once the devices are connected there should be an option on the transformer in the bluetooth settings that say something about using bluetooth data tether or something along those lines. Select that and you should be all set!
If you are still having issues let me know and i can do a more detailed (and accurate) walkthrough tonight when I get home.
Yes, you can use your phone if it provides the right sort of hot spot (infrastructure). I've tested my LG Optimus with the Transformer and it works fine. There are other tethering options if your phone does not have a hotspot, a program like PDA.net, using bluetooth (if your phone has a BT modem driver). What will not work is a program that turns your phone into an Ad Hoc hotspot, unless someone gets Ad Hoc working on the TF (should be possible, they have to change the supplicants file).
Don't know about bluetooth tethering, but my transformer connects to my android 2.2 HTC Desire wifi hotspot with no problems.
Password is stored, and it connects automatically when unconnected to my home wifi.
Mines working perfect with my g2.
Having troubles connecting to my Optimus S...

I wonder what are the steps. I have an HTC Hero (Sprint) on CM7 and it works fine through Bluetooth connection to WiFi-Tether.
On the contrary, my Optimus S (Sprint), i rooted it and then installed WiFi-Tether. Then I tried to tether it to my Asus (with the same settings on both sides) but I can't find the option "Tether" in the Bluetooth Settings. It just disappeared. I tried everything . Un-pairing, Changing some of the settings, Restarting both devices, everything...
So, is there something I'm doing wrong? Am I missing something? Is the "LG" name not good for the connection?
My galaxy s phone functions as a wireless hotspot so can be used by any device that has wifi ability, im not sure if this feature is specific to gakaxy s or an android feature
Funnily enough ive connected all sorts to it xbox, laptop, ipad etc
I've used the wifi hotspot built in to CM7 (infrastructure) in my car for my passengers to use my transformer with the day i took it out of the box. Haven't tried BT yet but any infrastructure type will work. I've noticed that if the app doesn't have the option to switch between infrastructure and ad-hoc, "tether" will refer to ad-hoc while "hotspot" will mean infrastructure. Good luck!

[Q] Rooted HTC Inspire 4G - Tether Issue

Hi, I hope someone can help me. I have been using the ClearDroid ROM v1.2.2 Stable with the Mod and its great. The only problem I have is the usb tethering will not work without using something like "Easy Tether lite". When I connect my Inspire 4G to my laptop and select the usb tethering option i get an error that i need to "contact AT&T to enable tethering on this device". My provider is Telstra (Australia) and prior to rooting the phone this worked ok. Is this how it should work since it has been rooted and flashed the Cleardroid rom?
I have also noticed that my Inspire has AT&T Hot Spots still running, but using ClearDroid AT&T bloatware should have been removed. Has something not worked or is this normal?

Without the AT&T hotspot app present on the device, I am not sure that users would gain access to the free AT&T wifi across the country, so I left that in there purposely. The purpose is to only add to the device's functionality, while not taking anything away that might be useful.
As for the tethering issue, you are using the stock tethering app. When AT&T updated the device to gingerbread, they locked it down hard. I am still working on how to unlock the stock app for that.
There is a second tethering app in the app drawer that has been there for many builds now, and it is guaranteed to work as it should. Use that one instead of the stock one and you will be just fine. Many users even report that they like it better to begin with. I hope this helps until I can get a real fix on the hotspot.

Sorry to revive an old thread. I was hoping there was an update on getting the stock tethering hotspot app working in Gingerbread. I've recently starting using an unlocked Inspire 4G on Ting (GSM/T-Mobile network), which allows tethering, but the stock app complains I need to call AT&T to enable tethering.
I was hoping there was a setting in the setting.db I could change, like I see described for other devices, and worked for my Nexus 5.

WiFi tethering: Internet sharing no longer works - Anyone else experiencing?

Hello,
since the last FOTA update from HTC to 1.45.403 (Android 2.3.4) I can no longer connect WLAN devices to the internet via WiFi-Hotspot on my HTC Sensation!
Before that update it worked.
The devices (tried it out with a Samsung TV and the original WiFi-stick connected and a WD multimedia box, both worked flawlessly before) successfully find the Sensation's AP, successfully connect to it and also the DHCP test succeeds.
However no internet connection then works.
Did anyone of you experience the same?
Could it be that this FOTA update sent by HTC now requires some software token to be sent by your mobile operator enabling WiFi tethering, hence defaulting tethering via firmware to "disable"?
Mobile operators do not like tethering, but they cannot detect (and consequently block) it easily - unless (just my speculation, no idea if this is the reason, why it won't work anymore) HTC would change WiFi tethering and internet sharing via 3G to default off on software level.
I have to mention that I have an unbranded HTC Sensation without any operator-specific software and the update did not come from the operator but from HTC.
(Or at least that's what I saw.)
Any advice ?
Thanks in advance.
Correction:
Software version is: 1.45.401.3
Have you tried using different security settings for the WiFi hotspott? Go to settings\wireless & networks\Portable WiFi hotspot settings. You have three settings WEP 128, WAP (TKIP), and WPA2 (AES). Mine is set to WPA2 (AES).
Problem is that it does not even work with security settings switched off
I really feel lost.
Could it be that other apps interfere?
But I'd rather doubt.
If you are using the WiFi Hotspot app that came preinstalled on the sensation from tmobile and you dont have a "Tethering Data Plan" they will eventually figure you out and block the app from working.... I found this out myself and had to go ask the nice lady at the Tmobile store why it happened... and that's why.
I can verify that at a certain point of data usage tmous will cut off wifi tethering. They can tell the data is being shared n want u to pay monthly for the service. Found out from a Friend who is a tmo employee.
Although I'm still tethering free for the time being..
Sent from my HTC Sensation Z710e
Mine does that too now, any way around it
I could be off on this, I work at TMO and I know the Amaze and GSII shipped with the ''latest'' SIM cards, which we were told had to be used for WiFi calling to work correctly, but oddly enough thats when I noticed tethering quit working on all out demo's
Works flawlessly with CM7 for me.
Actually today and yesterday works just fine for me.... so i dont know why it did the one day but no problems now..... wierd
my branded sensation stopped wifi tethering 2 days ago and i just tried and its is working now... Kinda weird i gurss . . Maybe it was because i used 5.46gb of data this month....?

[Q] can't find wifi network

I have opened a couple of threads with a similar name, but none had the same issue.
My Sensation XE, with original Sense simply won't find my wifi network that I created on my laptop.
I know, pretty common problem. But...
An old SonyEricsson connected to the same network without any problem whatsoever. My old Legend with Cyanogenmod can connect as well. A Desire S with Sense couldn't connect either.
Is it something Sense-related ?
I tried another network (under both W7 and Ubuntu), but it won't connect.
btw, internet pass-trough won't connect either.
Need more information to offer any help. Are you S-off or HTC Dev unlocked? And also what ROM are you running.
I'm not sure if this helps at all, but I think the Wi-Fi hotspot from laptops are some different server type. Like our phones use Ad-Hoc and laptop hotspot uses some different method and some phones can't detect that. I'm not sure thought, just a random thought.

Newly rooted and trying to wifi tether

I just rooted my HTC Sensation 4g on Virtuous Inquisition and I am trying to find a wifi tether app that works, any suggestions?
Thanks
I used to use Wireless Tether I think V.2.0.7 or somewhere around there, try searching for an APK for that.
Hope this helps
Cheers
I use and would highly recommend this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.googlecode.android.wifi.tether
My laptop shows limited connection - This is weird, I rooted my sensation so I could use my phone as a wifi hotspot with my laptop, but none of the rooted apps work.
