Anyone having this issue? I cant watch a youtube video without it stoping to load. If this is a common problem im going back to the thunderbolt...
Try waiting a few hours, YouTubes servers might just be slow, I've noticed on my 2mb/s download speed desktop it will sometimes take 10+ minutes to load a 2 minute video, it might just be a temp problem with YouTube.
It doesn't seem like a hardware problem it just seems connection based, just give it a lil bit
I have the same issue on Youtube the last couple of months on my 50Mb/s FIOS line...YouTube's usage appears to have far outpaced it's ability to serve up the videos. Very frustrating sometimes.
I'd lean towards saying it's not your phone, but your post implies you've never seen this on the TB. I think you've just been lucky.

If you are one of the lucky few that owns a Samsung Captivate, please post your impressions of it here. I know only one person that reported ui lag on the captivate so far but the galaxy s forum is swarming with them. Also a gps poll over there indicated that many users were experiencing unsavory searching times and bad signals.
Share good and bad impressions here please.
p.s. a video of UI lag would be most appreciated so others can see what you are talking about and compare their own results.
From the videos that I have seen, occasionally there is some UI lag but it doesn't appear to be real bad. If you install another desktop launcher the phone is quicker so to me it doesn't matter. I could care less if I use touchwiz.
As far as the GPS... I don't know. It'll be interesting to find out though.
go to Androidforums.com to see all of the videos. They have a thread going with everything.

wow great coverage there, Thanks!. Is the little hickup when transitioning from one screen to another by swiping the "ui lag" that peeps are talking about? Dont get me wrong, i could see how i that could get annoying, especially since this phone deff has the hardware to run smoother than butter on a hot summer day..
Still thats not as bad as i hear some people make it out to sound. Maybe some users experience exceptionally high lag? But you say the diff desktop launcher takes care even of that tiny hickup?
I ask so much because im trying to make an informed purchasing decision .

The Androidforums.com have blown up with post since the captivate was announced. You should go read some of the details over there. AndroidandMe also has a video of the different desktops and yes they clear up the lag.
I havn't seen major lag on the captivate in any of the videos posted but I have seen some sluggish UI Experience on occasion. I'm not worried about it all because of the different desktops that you can download from the android market.
Samsung is suppose to be working on a fix as this is a software issue not a hardware issue. Who knows... Maybe Android 2.2. will fix it.
<3. Thats all i have to say.
Now for the record... Is this the most powerful phone on the market right now or what?
I cant find any references to where another phone beats this phone at anything (battery life excluded, haven't seen any info on that) except for that 2d stuff from the droid (which is touted to be meaningless anyway)...
Re: GPS - of all the video reviews of GPS aquisition on the Galaxy S, the speed was as fast or faster than other devices (running Android or iOS), so it should not be a problem. I will report back on the 18th or 19th after I get my Samsung Captivate.
thanks, OKMFT. Really looking forward to your input. I think the GPS is the only thing thats really troubling me now.
I just got to play with this phone in a local ATT store. I do kinda see what the OP was saying. I had an Aria in one hand and the Captivate in the other. The Aria seemed really smooth in transition while the Captivate was fast but seemed jittery. I think it may be more of a trick to the eye because the background moves just a little when you swipe the windows. Otherwise, every app I played with, email, internet, everything was really fast and sharp. The camera takes great pics with very little zoom time (unlike my HTC HD). The phone itself seems well built and extremely light weight. Overall I left very impressed and am planning to pick it up this weekend.
thnx 4 postin that here too. u didnt get a chance to play with the gps too by ne chance did you?
I unfortunately did not get a chance. I only had a couple minutes with it as the sales guy didn't want anyone else to see it because they were apparently not even supposed to have the device yet.
oh wow, nice job then!
I purchased one late Friday afternoon (after having been previously denied by two other stores and several other salespeople), and have taken it running, walking, and driving (using "Runner," "GPS Status," and Google Maps and Navigation).
I have found that it seems overall slower and less secure in GPS signal acquisition than my previous phones (iPhone 4, 3Gs, 3G) but is on par with my old Samsung Blackjack II. It took a while sometimes to get a signal and occasionally lost it when it had a reasonably good view of the sky (especially in car navigation). That being said, the iPhones weren't perfect either and all had trouble at times, so for me, it was just a little aggravating rather than a deal-breaker. Even though I didn't get instant gratification with Captivate's GPS, it never let me down for long and then was able to pick up the signal.
There've been a number of GPS fixes suggested over at Android Forums in the Galaxy S and Captivate areas...take a look and see if any work for you (oh, and report back!).
Summary: this phone is fast and snappy if you adequately manage running programs and widgets, and the GPS is kind of slow at times but not unusable.

Also, this phone is blazing fast except when too much stuff is churning away in the background. ATK takes care of that.
(Sorry for the duplicate post, as I accidentally posted this originally in the wrong thread and couldn't figure out how to delete it).
just got the phone. Stock just out of the box. I used gps with google maps on the way home. Got a lock in the few seconds it took me to load the map. Gps was flawless all the way home.
i'll let you know if anything changes.
Have had mine since Thursday evening. GPS is slow for me, I haven't actually put it to use yet so not sure how it performs after acquiring signal, I've tried a few of the suggestions in different forums, switching it to network service does seem to help.
As far as the UI, I actually considered returning the phone. Coming from a 3gs I was suprised how little difference there was at first. Then, after using it for a few days found it actually slowed down (adv task killer was one of the first apps I installed and I use it regularly)
However, per a suggestion from someone I installed LauncherProBeta and used it instead of Touch Wiz, what a difference. I mean really it's a different phone now. There are a few other fixes I'll do once I get a new SD card too that should help.

Picked up mine at local BB this morn at when they opened! Went from 3gs to this and so far please.
Now only probably I have is since 1100am central time I tried GPS and can't connect. Longest I have left it trying was the 30min drive home. No luck just a crazy icon in status bar that wont connect.
First Droid so I'm new to anymods so it could just be me. Been at this forum since Moto days and love it
This. Launcher pro beta fixed all lag. As for gps, mine catches in 5 to 10th seconds. I experimented with location settings and some were detrimental. Try turning all gps related stuff on or just play with those options to see if any help
Ok ive had to purchase this app THREE times so I have some experience with it (iPhone,iPad,and Android). My issue is..constant freezing, no matter what channel (HD and regular) or what settings (Standard or High quality). I have more then enough dl speeds etc for it to work flawlessly, but on 3G,LTE and WiFi, it freezes within 20 seconds of starting up. I have reconfigured my router for manual setup according to the video guide again but it still wont play in a usable manner unless I like looking at the static picture with voices in the background lol.
Anyone else use this app that has it running fluidly?
When I had my Thunderbolt, it didn't matter what I was using (3G,LTE, Wifi), the picture would always stutter about and freeze up for a good while, maybe sometimes even up to two minutes when I started using it.. After those initial stutters and freeze ups, though, it would always play without a hitch..
I know it doesn't really help, but just my experience with it.
ugh yeah mines consistant. Even over WiFi it freezes so its frustrating
Hmm, the only things I can really think of would be:
New ethernet cord between the router and the slingbox?
New cable cord (Probably not, but hey it could work)
orrrr.....
maybe the cords from the slingbox to the cable/dish receiver are bad?
I had the issue too and I found the problem was in the slingbox itself. A capacitor had gone bad and I had to swap it out. Look for a bulging capacitor. Here is a good guide:

Owned my shield a couple days now. Laying in my bed and watching netflix is something I do every nite so this problem is quite annoying for me. While watching netflix the buffering dialog will popup quite often, almost to the point its unwatchable. Sometimes I can get thru a whole episode of something and it wont happen and others itll happen every minute or two. I know its not my signal or connection because I have full bars and I have more then enough download speed to handle simoultaneous streaming from several devices. I also have noticed the colors will get dimmer sometimes and then a few seconds later theyll be bright and vibrant again. Almost like the screen is dimming a slight amount. Does anyone have either of these problems with their shield and netflix? Id like to think im not the only one, I would hate to have bought a bad unit, albeit very unlikely thats what happened. Thanks for reading.
Hit thanks if I helped you out. Doing a little bit of reading goes a long way. Sent via tapatalk.
I've experienced some netflix buffering issues on my shield as well. In my experience it is simply just the wireless connection strength. I have about 50% connection in my basement and speed tests and most things appear perfect (Can stream perfectly too) but netflix will buffer occasionally even though it seems like it shouldn't. Probably just loosing some packets every now and then cause it doesn't happen when in a stronger connection.
As for the screen dimming and brightness this is a known issue and posted heavily about in the main nvidia forums. I'm not sure if the cause is quite known yet and i see it usually when web surfing but it doesnt really bother me much, but would certainly be happy if a software fix is released that fixes that.

Weird, i don't have the screen dimming issue. my screen works fine!
As mentioned, after the 11/One UI update, when I scroll slowly, like pretty slow, the scrolling us jumpy, laggy, whatever word you want to use for "not smooth". It's system wide, ui elements, apps, home screen, all the same behavior. it's really annoying as I love to scroll as I read. I have made sure adaptive is on, no power savings is on, tried enhanced processing. It even does it in safe mode.
Anyone else have this issue? I was going to do a full wipe but I suspect this was a bug introduced in Android 11.
I don't have this issue, just upgraded this morning.
Ended up taking the time to do a full wipe. Still have the issue...Great. Like just to confirm, if you're barely scrolling, real slow, the fps dips and jumps all the time. I confirmed this using GPUWatch in the dev settings. Is there really no one having this issue out there?
I'm tempted to send it in but if I just get another phone back with the same issue, that's a lot of wasted time.

I see it too. I recorded a video to show it. I noticed it using Instagram and I also observe the problem going away in app restart. Is this what you see too? I'm wondering if Good Lock is implicated in this?

So funny enough, I dropped my fold, cracked the outer glass and bought bestbuy protection on it so I went and got a new phone. This did let me further test everything out. The new phone came with the original firmware version so I tested it through every upgrade. I think maybe I just didn't see it before but now I can see it happens on a new phone, regardless of version. Like I said, it's when you scroll very slowly which I tend to do often and happens quite literally everywhere. I tried to record it with gpuwatch but it locks the screen to 60 fps and doesn't show the stuttering in the data like it does in 120hz mode, even though it's still there. I'm honestly confused by this. No other phone has had this behavior.

You can see when it start smooth but slowly devolves. It does not stutter when it slows down at the end of a scroll that you let go of (flick scroll)
Is it doing on both screens? It looks like you are using Nord VPN, could that slow it down?

Ah, you're talking about the inside screen. Yes, I have that too. Doesnt bother me very much, but I see your point.
I have noticed this happening for the past two to three days now, where after charging my phone to 100% and taking it off the charger, the phone feels sluggish overall in some apps and any videos - be it local on device videos shot from my camera, videos that I have received via WhatsApp, Instagram videos and reels or YouTube videos and shorts do not play at all. I just see the video buffering or loading (the circle keeps going round). Only thing to fix this is a restart. I am not sure what is causing this behaviour but it is very strange and ridiculous. I bought the Pixel thinking pure Android from Google would be the best UX but this sucks tbh.
Anyone else facing a similar issue and any tips on what the reason could be? I have been trying to get in touch with Google support but could not get through to them today, will try again tomorrow.
Edit: it is now happening randomly throughout the day and the camera app is almost frozen during such an episode if I try to use it.
Can you use something like geekbench app to profile the phone when it's at like 20 % after a restart vs 100% no restart?

Here are the screenshots of Geekbench scores. Today's scores are from when the phone was exhibiting this strange behavior of videos not playing.
Unfortunately, this has started happening randomly through the day (and not necessarily after a full charge). I have seen that even the camera just freezes or is non responsive during such an episode. So I guess it is some sort of video driver issue?
I restarted the phone in safe mode and checked but don't see this issue happening in that mode. I've uninstalled apps that I've installed over the past few days. Still not sure what's the issue.
I checked with Google support yesterday and they told me to check in safe mode (done) or else perform a factory reset. Not sure if paying 1000€ for a phone only to factory reset it within a month for a wired issue seems justified. I have the same apps on my 6 year old One plus 3 and face no problems whatsoever apart from the phone being slow.

Hey, I don't mean to be a stickler here or tell you what kind of experience to have.
As a guy who deals with a lot of tech issues, I would recommend a Factory Reset along with google.
Things happen, and not EVERY device is perfect, try not to be done with the phone over resetting. I know it can be a pain but all devices need it from time to time. I work in IT and you would not believe the number of times resetting fixed an issue.
The time for concern is when that does not fix the issue or you are having to do it across multiple patches of a phone.
