Htc Desire Amoled or SLCD?
what is differt, and what is best?
why they deliver 2 different :s
Samoled is better made by Samsung
Slcd worse made by sharp I think.
Get the samoled as you can buy this part off ebay if you break it.

S-Amoled is not Amoled and its definitely no better than SLCD. Not even better than LCD. Well... it definitely sucks! Distorted colors and low readability when directly exposed to sunlight. Just my impressions of the Samsung Galaxy S.
Dunno about amoled screens, I've rarely seen one of them, but here is a comparison between the two versions of Desire: http://www.gsmarena.com/amoled_vs_slcd_htc_desire_screens_fight_it_out-news-1932.php
Seems that Amoled beats SLCD at power saving and brightness... I'd wish to check myself anyway.
I got a desire HD which is equipped with a SLCD screen and it's just superb for me!
In the end I'd suggest to get the one who looks better at your eyes.

I too have a Desire HD and I must say I am very happy with the screen quality. I checked out the Galaxy S before buying and the screen definitely produces much deeper blacks but colors seemed off, like there was too much saturation.
Desire HD looks more natural which is how I like it, you should check out both screens and compare.
I've seen many phone screens but so far the sharpest crisper phone screen I've seen is the sidekick lx 09, followed by the iphone 4 and the tmobile G2 and the nexus one. The reason for being that the sidekick has 854 x 480 resolution in a 3.2" screen.
The iphone has a 640 x 960 resolution in a 3.5" screen about the same resolution but the sidekick has more pixels per inches because its a smaller screen than the iphone.
Tmobile G2 and the nexus one with a 480 x 800 resolution are the sharpest screens I've seen after the sidekick lx 09 and iphone 4.
What are the sharpest crisper cellphone screens you've seen so far?

Really? The G2 and Nexus one? Yeesh... First would have to be iphone 4 though the screens too tiny for my taste. From there I'd say the Samsung Focus, then the Dell Venue Pro, from there it's all downhill... I don't think android really shows the beauty of a screen properly or I'd put the Galaxy S line somewhere on there... probably along-side the focus.

Galaxy s phone screens aren't shraper than the G2, they have less pixels per inches, and I don't like the super amoled either. And have you seen the sidekick lx 09? PPI is no big deal to me especially considering the difference in screen size and the fact that nothing looks sharp on an HTC LCD screen. The lx 09 I guess has a decent screen but for a tiny non-touchscreen screen that doesnt really mean much... iPhone 4 has an awesome display, just too small a phone and too ugly a UI for me...

Super lcd has is the sharpest after retina display on touchscreen phones, the super amoled isn't as sharp as the G2's screen. And to add that the colors on the super amoled look over saturated no natural colors, only thing the super amoled got on the super lcd is the blacks lol the only thing super amoled got better than lcds. I don't understand what yu mean by that htc screens aren't sharp?

The no natural colors argument is an excuse for lack of quality. The vibrancy of AMOLED and SAMOLED looks much more natural than the washed out colors of HTCs LCD screens... If by sharp you mean PPI then I'm sure I could get a phone with a 3 inch screen that owned any of those... However for all visual purposes AMOLED looks best with SAMOLED in a close second (SAMOLED puts a blue hue on white colors that I dislike) then in distant last is LCD screens. I'm watching the same show same episode of smallville on an HD7, a Dell Venue Pro, and a Samsung Focus right now. The Focus and the DVP are right on par with each other, the HD7 is trailing... I mean the Focus has 223 PPI which unless you're holding the phone less than a foot from your face is hardly discernible and the DVP is at 228, again barely discernible. There really isnt much difference between that and the 256 of the g2 and with that you sacrifice screen size and get caught on an LCD screen... no thanks.
I love how this is just a hate thread. I'd prefer to read something other than this hateful garbage. WAHH WAHH HTC PHONZ SUKS KAWS I GOTZ AMOLED. Perhaps the iPhone and G2 ARE sharper quality physically, but the human eye can barely distinguish. My screen looks beautiful whether you agree or not.

I was talking about the super amoled which you agree sucks with white colors, and not only that but it has a greenish tinge on yellows that looks very unatural, I haven't seen an amoled screen, I only seen OLED and SAMOLED, my cousin got the epic and super LCD has way more natural colors, look at the youtube video comparison and you'll see what I'm talking about and remember to YOU it looks better than SLCD not to me, it all depends on what looks better to you I personally don't think colors are washed out like you claim on SLCDs, however I think colors are over saturated on SAMOLED. Thank god htc can't implement SAMOLED displays on htc devices hopefully they'll keep SLCD since samsung is the only one that makes SAMOLED

What phone do you have? And which screen you like better SAMOLED or SLCD?, and listen some might think Samoled has better colors but who cares IMO, and probably yours too, SAMOLED is does not have better colors, we all have different taste and opinions, and SLCD out of all I've seen is the best, its natural in colors, reds doesn't look like. Orange or like they're bleeding and yellows don't look greenish, it is very sharp and has great brightness, if it only had the blacks the SAMOLED has it would be the perfect screen, but still I could give two cents for how black are the blacks.

I agree that it looks pretty nice... I personally prefer AMOLED over the alternatives Super LCD included. SAMOLED is a little out there but I'll take that over devices with the basic LCD screen that most devices are still harboring. I mean all in all it's not a huge difference between most devices but AMOLED and things like that... they just appeal more to me. The colors even though they can be almost cartoony are still visually enthralling. AMOLED is good, Super LCD would take second, from there I'd say amoled, oled, then LCD. Pixel density is hardly visible to the naked eye so as long as it's not just terrible it's all about the type of screen... this is all just my opinion though.

Agreed, I think my distaste for the washed out colors is because a heavy portion of Windows Phone 7 is black and blacks are not too good on LCD screens as you mentioned earlier.
I like Super Amoled actually, nevertheless, I will wait for WP 7 phones from Nokia.
They will throw the Clear Black Displays in them, I reckon. And the clear black displays were proven to be the best in a GSM Arena review.
BTW, I don't like Nokia, but I always go for the best.

Indeed, I also found features mentioning a S-LCD screen, so i don't know.
But why make a LCD version with I9020 reference ?

i9020 vs. i9023

Actually, no. For an international phone distribution, it's quite hard to get all those up and running with OLED's, because they can't produce as much displays as the number of demands. That's why they've gone with i9023 SCLCD.
Honestly with what Google is doing to samoled display, you'd probably be better off with a s-lcd display ...

The Sclcd passes government codes in most countries, amoled does not because it was not made there. Its all about GDP these days. But which model did you buy? Like you, I was thrown off when I foundoit about the models. I almost bought a i9020t for my at&t sim which would have capped me at 2g speeds... The first problem I have with SAMOLED is that the greys have a red/purple tint in them. The blacks are gorgeous, but the greys are just drab except at full brightness. What I noticed is that in SAMOLED displays, as you reduce the brightness, the colors shift. Greys go to red/purple, whites to to dirty white, etc. The different colors do not change luminosity equally. Some colors stay brighter than others. SCLCD does not have this problem.
The other problem I have with SAMOLED is the PenTile pattern matrix. If you compare the i9020 (SAMOLED) and the i9023 (SCLCD) side-by-side, you will see the difference in the whites. The SAMOLED display has a very visible pattern to it. Also, if you view the Maps app, or any app filled with text, in both, the SCLCD has better readability.
Supposedly the SAMOLED+ displays use a regular RGB matrix, and the second issue should be resolved. But, I still want to see how/if the colors shift as you reduce the brightness of the display.
The only downside I have seen in the SCLCD is that blacks are not black at full brightness. Otherwise, it is superior to the SAMOLED in every other way. Viewing angles are comparable, and readability in sunlight is better with SCLCD IMO.
I wish the Nexus S had some kind of oleophobic coating on the screen. I am constantly wiping the oil off of the display. The Nexus One was better in this regard. I don't know if it had an oleophobic coating, but it was much less susceptible to skin oil, and easier to clean.
There are at least 4 models for Nexus S:
i9020A North American GSM frequencies. SAMOLED display.
i9020T T-Mobile and European GSM frequencies. SAMOLED display. (supposedly for US, UK and Canada only.)
i9023 T-Mobile and European GSM frequencies. SCLCD display. (supposedly for rest of world, though may be sold in US, UK and Canada.)
SPH-D720 Sprint EVDO + WiMAX. SAMOLED display.

No rant intended or anything but your infos are well outdated. Firstly the nexus s samoled version do not have the red/pink tint even on the lowest brightness. This was fixed by Google in the 2.3.3. This was not the only change in colour:hence you can find a lot of users complaining about the colour changes. Secondly, the nexus s do have an oleophobic coating on the screen.

I still prefer the bigger screen on the Galaxy S II and the screen just looks so much nicer. The Super Amoled Plus technology is far superior to the SLCD in my opinion.

I think it wasn't about him preferring a screen over the other but about calling it BIGGER when they are both 4.3"
Yes, they have a different area due to aspect ratios but lets face it, the difference is almost negligible and many people don't even understand the difference, they just understand 4.3

Yes and no. Larger area=definitely
Wider=yes
Longer=no
Remember, the more square a quadrilateral the greater the area for the same diagonal. But some people don't see that.
And as I said, some people don't look past the 4.3" or only focus on one of the dimensions. I didn't say he was right in his comment, just that I didn't think he was bashing on Stesa for liking the Samsung screen more, but rather because his statement of a larger screen APPEARS to be frivolous if you only consider the 4.3 (though Stesa is perfectly correct in saying it is bigger).
Its a personal preference, I have Nexus One and love the Amoled Screen, I have seen SAMOLED and SAMOLED + u wont see a lot of difference except brightness when going from Nexus One. Also OLED isnt really a mature tech yet, It needs a lot of generations to reach a perfectly good place. Has many issues right now though it looks beautiful

Hello everyone,
I've been doing some research about the differences between the i9020T and the i9023 models. So far, the only difference is the fact that the i9020T has SAMOLED vs. SLCD on t he i9023. Is this right? Would the i9023 work on T-Mobile USA's network?
Also, I am considering the SLCD version, since I've one of my coworker's Nexus S and the screen resolution on the SAMOLED is not that great, plus there's some sort of green tint in the colors. Besides that, the contrast is amazing.
So, in terms of resolution and color fidelity, which screen is better?
Sorry for the noob questions here, I am asking so I won't be disappointed and bother you guys even more.
Thank you in advance.
Does anyone care to help?
